The information in this video is correct. - Calling the 700mm Bazooka 1/3 the size of the RX-78-2 was a brainfart, but in context, it still remains ridiculously oversized. (The Zaku's standard bazooka that's roughly the same size is 280mm, the "Giant" Bazooka is 360mm and the Guncannons Shoulder Cannons are 240mm)
Is it possible for you to do a gundam manga narration like an audio book? It been kinda hard to search for completed Gundam sidestory mangas that been translated.
I think the idea behind the Gundam Hammer was to deal with beam-resistant barriers through sheer kinetic force. That or Tem Rei was blackout drunk when he came up with it and nobody dared questioning him.
Its a flail that they called a hammer, which is absurd, but then again, a gundam throwing around said giant flail is equally absurd. I'll give it a pass because of how lunatic it is and also because its pretty badass. Rule of cool wins again.
I think the weapon development team are another. Tem Ray only leaded the mobile suit team. There were a whole bunch of new weapons came out even after Tem Ray went nut.
A weapon of this size can easily damage other ms and has a longer range than other melee weapon, giving it at least one advantage over the beam saber. However it should be used as a side weapon, not the main weapon.
@@junrosamura645 I always assumed that the Gundam had a scripting language which Amuro had used to program it to walk forwards a certain number of steps, point the gun upwards, use the gun's scope to see anything that's moving, and shoot whatever it sees moving. Also, I just realized that Amuro kept the gun with the Gundam because he needed it's camera to see what was going on.
I can't state just how much I appreciate these kinds of videos. The lore and history is just so interesting and makes the Gundam universe so much more interesting. The shows always just scrape the surface.
I think I am finally early enough to ask this question; could we get a Development History on the Base Jabber? I have always found it fascinating how a show that is based on feasible logic came up with a carrier that could hold a Mobile Suit & stay stable while said MS is engaged in combat. Also how do their frames take the stress of a MS jumping on/off of them?
The one actual circumstance I can think of for using the hammer would be in a colony, with GMs, and pilots not good enough to close to beam saber range. Smashing a colony wall with a big ball of metal still probably does less damage than an errant bazooka round, and definitely less than stray beam shots.
The Gundam hammer strikes me as a space weapon and you are right about the idea of it being a colony weapon. The idea isn’t far fetched when the federation even developed a rail gun to minimize collateral damage in urban combat .
I remember using the Gundam Hammer in Journey to Jaburo against Garma's GAW. So something kinda similar could be done. Used against heavily armored tanks like Ramba Ral's or used for bunker busting as it could be reused and not waste bazooka ammo
It's a plot point in Scad Hammer game in which Tem Rey is a crazy scientist obsessed with the hammer (and completely ignore other weapons). Since Gundam only has Gundam hammer, Tem manage to stick around with White Base (to deverlope better hammer).
And which is why they thought about dropping it. Rope-based weapon like hammer is great, but nothing beats something that's also a rope, but less size - that being in Gouf's arsenal.
I think Unit 1 was scrapped for parts. Remember, when Zeon came upon the activation of Unit 2, they were shocked since they thought it was a bunch of parts meaning they must have seen either unit 1 or 3 but it was not completely assembled for combat.
One of the games I played had 4 Gundam guntanks and guncannons at side 7, and if the info is correct with one of the units at side 7 being in g3 colors then 3 where in rx-78 2 colors and 1 was in rollout g3 colors, also there is a picture from a magazine showing that 15 rx-78-1 where built
The rollout colour scheme, prototype and G3 are the best in design, as they are the most realistic and believable. Something Yoshiyuki Tomino initially envisioned the Gundam to be instead of the iconic tri-colour scheme.
If a weapon is not built for stealth, why having a flashy color scheme would be necessarily a bad thing? Also, yes, my gotta love the Realistic 20 metres tall Humanoid Weapons.
I would argue that the tri color scheme is a prototype meant to look good for the cameras. Something similar to the paint schemes on prototype fighters like the yf-16
You know seeing the intended set up for the white base makes me wonder... 'What if all 9 suits (3 Gundams, 3 Guncannons, 3 Guntanks) were more-or-less operational' like, would all 9 units have gotten pilots? Who knows. Maybe Amuro falls into the Gundam's cockpit early enough to defend all the other suits, while the original crew still gets murderized.
I'd like a What If scenario on this. Ryu and Kai would be using Gundams too. Hayato, Artesia, and Job John would be using Guncannons in space, switching to Guntanks on the ground when needed. Even Bright and Frau might get some screen time in them when needing extra pilots. With 3 Gundam contributing to future combat data, the GMs might be slightly better in this universe. And then Zeon would require 3 times the manpower and resources to keep the White Base occupied, which could drain their resources and frontline aces faster.
@Neo Alteisen if i had a penny for everytime a scientist father tells their kid to get into a robot, i'd have 2 pennies, which isn't much, but it's weird that it happened twice
@@williamsiegle8205 Did Dr. Kasshu actually tell anyone to get in a robot, though? Kyoji jumped in to escape in the Ultimate Gundam, and he was already in cryostasis by the time Domon returned, iirc. Unless we're talking the final battle against the Devil Colony.
27:58 looks like the Audio got messed up there but still the History of the RX-78 from Units 1-3 are along with the Core Fighter are so convoluted I love it helps me understand UC Technology
It’s amazing how much there is just on the first three units. I can think of a use for the Gundam Hanmer. Smashing things. Seriously, even if it is part of standard training, swords require a lot of skill to use and sometimes you can find yourself in environments where missing a shot could mean a lot more destruction than you can afford. Would a mace make more sense for that purpose? Of course. We see that in IBO, but the chain of the Gundam Hammer itself can have other uses. Trip wire in low visibility. Entangling a foe. Using the hammer as an anchor. My point is that the Gundam Hammer can be useful, even if it isn’t as often as most of the other weapons. Either way, always happy to see more Gundam Development History (literally this time) and I am excited as this can eventually lead into the two histories that interest me the most: The RGM-79 GM and my beloved RX-79 [G] Gundam Ground Type.
Pretty sure that the tricolor scheme was meant for high visibility during testing. Like painting aircraft yellow during trials. Only after the OYW did it become the Gundam paint scheme.
This rabbit hole can get REALLY deep if you dare to go deeper. Its almost like putting together a family tree in a way. Just one example is how the RX-78-1 branching down to the RX-79[G] and its subsequent GM[G], then leading down into the Blue Destiny models and Slave Wraith. Thats just a relatively short tree and I know this was just the early types, but you got Unit 4, 5 and Mudrock as well.....tho Mudrock is its own beast
It would have been awesome to see in the Gihren's greed games a scenario where a Side 7 WASN'T attacked, with the White Base instead being able to successfully retrieve all Operation V units.
IIRC you can basicaly give char noo go signal to the attack on side 7 on the gihren route. This actaully benifetail since amuro doesn't end up killing half your roster of aces
Zeon would've gotten its ass kicked even harder. Don't get me wrong, it's very likely thay the feddies wouldn't have found a pilot as good as Amuro, but they would have two extra RX-78 units to use and would be able to better coordinate the White Base's operations with their war effort. The only Zeon grunt suit with specs that can pose a threat to the RX-78 is the Gelgoog and they only start making those really late into the war. There's also the fact that the Zabis will start to kill each other once they start losing the war, which causes confusion and mayhem within their own ranks.
But an extra or two RX-78s with no decent pilots means it won't perform at its best. We all know that at best it would make Sleggar survive the war longer, but the extra 2 would end with regular pilot at best, and theoretically, without amuro to trash half of zeon ace soldiers they would end up getting shot down somewhere down the line, probably on Odessa since Rambal Ral and the Tri black stars should be there along with other Aces. And remember, Amuro Wiped out Rambal's whole squad, so he would still have his crew of veterans with him
I think you're off by a factor of 10 with the 700mm bazooka. The Raketen Bazooka eventually used by the some of the Dom line had a caliber of 880mm, so 700mm wouldn't be outside of the realm of possibility.
@@arsenesandmeier4467the barrel is likely smoothbore, the actual projectile is likely at its widest point, 700mm. With different thicknesses of rounds for each type of round. A high explosive would have a thicker diameter than a HEAT round or Armor piercing. So there is likely a sabot taking up the extra space around the projectile. A sabot could even account for the varying thickness of projectiles.
27:04 The shield's size, which could cover almost the entire Gundam from certain angles, was also useful. Amuro would sometimes deliberately throw the shield, causing enemies to focus on it, thinking the Gundam was behind the shield, allowing Amuro to attack from behind.
It’s a great tactic, I’ve seen other veteran pilots do similar things to distract enemy suits. But Amuro is known especially later on fur his decoy tactics.
@@rogue_newtype4364 Amuro was their first true MS pilot in combat, so he pioneered a lot, then became an instructor. Amuro kinda did for mobile suit combat was Oswald Boelcke did for fighter pilots.
Unit 1 was destroyed on Side 7 in the show, Unit 2 is Amuro's Gundam, and Unit 3 was on white base for the first half of the show before Jaburo. It's what the White Base crew used for spare parts to fix Unit 2. Unit 3 wasn't given the magnetic coating and other upgrades until they reached Jaburo and it was rebuilt and used as a testbed for later suits. Amuro had helped design Gundam Alex RX-78-NT1 which also had the magnetic coating and a bunch of upgrades. It was intended to be his replacement for Unit 2. It was destroyed about the same time as Abaoa Qu.
The low visibility color scheme does seem like it'd be a given, a "why didn't they do that in the first place?" kind of thing, but then again, perhaps not. The Gundam was a morale coup, both for the feddies to inspire them, and also to put fear into the Zeon soldiers it faced. They probably wanted it very visible, indeed, to do that.
I was listening to this while building plamo, now I'll have to watch it again because it's so confusing if you're not paying attention. I didn't expect the grandpa to have this much history
imagine an alternate scenario where Zeon had to fight the White Base that had 3 Gundams, 3 Guncannons, and 3 Guntanks, assuming they had enough pilots for every machine.
I was curious and did some research a while back on the RX 78 series. I learned that there were 8 total main units. I don't really know the specifics and it might be unreliable considering I got it from a wiki. I found the Prototype, Granddad, G3, Unit 4, Unit 5, Mudrock, the 7th Gundam, and a mysterious 8th RX 78 unit. I haven't been able to find anything on it so maybe you could help me on that Mr. Kakarot.
RX 78-8 does exist but it was only mentioned in MSV books with no design or even information. I remember hearing that somewhere there is a mention of an in universe rumor that its some kind machine using the FSWS system meaning some kind of Full-armor unit.
Unit 8 was apparently going to be a heavy weapons platform, like think how GP03 the last main unit in stardust memory was But without the mobile armor Carrier function similar to the meteor units from seed. Basically what the psycho zaku was but with heavier fire power
Honestly Unit 8 was not defined for good reasons. They left a empty space so that whatever side story could adapt it should they want to use it (same went for the Black and White Rider before Code Fairy decided their designs). But as time pass, it seem no one is eager to use unit 8, perhaps because Unit 7 ended up not being really popular in comparison with the Mudrock, G04 and 5 and the 3 Grandaddies.
I like the Gundam hammer if only because it fills the same niche as various wacky weapon concepts that have cropped up throughout history. The kinds of weapon where you know someone was like: "It's a good idea, guys" "Sure it failed the first time, but it'll definitely work now, guys" "Okay, I'll give up"
Hell, in real life we've had bat bombs, torpedo dolphins, that Nazi howitzer so big they had to build train tracks ahead of it, liquid gay bombs, the robo-fart riot control system, a Russian tank on screwtreads, the list goes on and on.
It's impressive that even how powerful the Gundams are, Zeon still manages to still take out most of the units but still lose to them in a fair fight. It's ironic!
Whenever i see the rx78 2 videos a wave of nostalgia hits me hard. But then i remember the 08th ms team and Stardust memories and that we never got a RG ground gundam or a GP03 stamen or any other 00 suits except for setuna suits which astreas being p bandai dammit.
i want to eventually get the GM type c space colors kit because the GM type C is just a mass produced GM early type (im guessing with the added learning computers, it was said somewhere iirc that the GM incorporated the gundams learning computer/combat data, while the early type did not, tho i wouldnt be surprised if the gm early type still had one, just without the combat data from the gundam like the later GMs)
Sweet video as always! In regards to the Prototype Gundam, I was reminded of how I've been headcanoning stuff. Would it be too much of a stretch for this: - parts were recovered & occasionally used for RX-78-2 repairs - what was left of that eventually reached Jaburo too & was cobbled together w/ old parts from the initial testing on Earth just in case - it was recolored back to the old color for whatever reason & was destroyed during the Battle of Jaburo as seen in Spirits of Zeon (Ive been headcanoning at least parts of the game)
Awesome video. I always learn more each time. What I like to do is reading about all the different mobile suit in the game Gundam Battle operation 2. They added a detailed text for each ms in the game.
Hmmmm... Actually my personal head canon about the whole RX-78-2 Gundam being upgraded to the specs of that of the RX-78-3 but still be called the RX-78-2 is that the Federation Engineers lead by Mosk Han didn't really have all that much time to fully upgrade the RX-78-2 to -3 Specs. Therefore, only included the Magnet Coating and maybe the upgrade to the Joints to allow the Coating to work properly. Everything else from the -3 Specs like the mentioned new reactor, and the redone backpack were not included in the RX-78-2. Hence, Amuro's Gundam remained as a simple RX-78-2 that has been slightly upgraded. Also, I do love that new version of the RX-78-1 Prototype Gundam unit art seen in the Master Archive RX-78 Book. That actually looks like an interesting difference between that of the normal Gundam we see in the form of the RX-78-2 and that of the Prototype Gundam itself. I may actual include something like that in my head canon, or if I ever manage to actually start writing my own fanfiction novelization of the MSG Series then I will include that. Thanks Kakarot for the awesome video and the ideas that it spawned!
Those cutscenes used in this video make me wish we had a new Gundam anime that was purely about the development of MS. Several anime and manga have touched on MS development, like MS IGLOO, Thunderbolt & The Origin, but we haven't had one that's ONLY about MS research and development.
Great video! Though I have some thoughts on other equipment such as... -Microphone. The idea yet another prototype thing and can be considered as "nothing-burger", but theoretically, its definitely a predecesor of EWAC units. EWAC units may never pack a punch but its always a bad sign on battle field, specially on space coz they were often partner with solar ray or snipers. They even pack with jammers to bring more pain. -Hammer. Its kinna silly that Federation will bring back such a medival weapon, but I think they thought its a flop ever since they faced MS with rope weapon(like Hammer) such as Gouf, and thought "the less size, the better". -Beam Javelin. Its a powerful weapon so much so, that it can tear Gaw's wings, and is one of my fav close range weapon, but its p much made out of metal and everyone can cut its handle, which is why it doesnt always appear on any MS. Cant get enough of Rx78. Looking forward for next one!
Something I feel should have been talked about was the full armor gundam, not from thunderbolt but the units that faced johnny Riden with the dual beam cannons mounted on the arms Edit: it's name is the FA 78 full armor gundam from MSV
The crazy amount of lore we have just on how the Gundam came to be is crazy and it's the reason why I love Gundam, even if it is a fictional work, the amount of lore of the Mobile Suits alone is enough for an encyclopedia.
I don’t know if this is enough for a question of the week but I wonder did Bright Noa knew or he learns later that Hathaway kill Chan in Char’s Counterattack? Also How many of the 72 Gundams in IBO actually saw combat in the Calamity War? In addition, Barbatos Lupus Rex can be considered a hybrid between a Mobile Armor and a Mobile Suit? something like the Toa Hordica. Finally, which redesign of a Gundam or a other Mobile Suit that appears in build fighters and divers universes (including battlogue) can be considered better than his original counterpart? For example how powerful is the Momokapool against a regular Kapool?
For the first no, or else he would probably have ended in jail, they probably either considered her a casuality of the alpha azieru wich is probably considered the only kill hataway did during CCA given the way the novel went where chan doesn't exist and hataway kills quess himself

1:59 Oh yeah, that's the in-universe reason for the V-fin... Makes me imagine a scene where the Gundam's V-fin gets shot off and that actually scrambles his comms link to the ship.
So how exactly does this tie into enough spare parts existing to create 20 RX-79[G] mobile suits? The path from the RX-78-2 to the RX-79[G] has always been a bit muddled, I feel, especially considering the existence of the RGM-79[G].
The parts used for the ground Gundam weren´t spare parts but unrefined and low quality parts which were made while developing the RX 78. This also is what causes the Ground gundams to constantly break and need maintanece as well as having an inbuild limiter to stop the machine from literally tearing itself apart. The original plan was to wait until they´d receive the data of the RX 78, but due to the advance of Zeon forces on earth they were desperate.
@@VRHyoumaru the GM Ground Type doesn´t predate the rx 78 and was developed alongside the ground gundam with it sharing 80 % of the parts with it, the rest is shared with its successor the GM
My understanding is the [G] types were built from parts leftover for Operation V in general - not specifically for the RX-78 units but an attempt to mass-produce a version of the Gundam with less complex/expensive equipment (integrated chest cockpit, beam sabers running off the leg subreactors instead of dedicated backpack reactors, modular chest multi-launcher, etc). Clearly they ran into a bottleneck with Luna Titanium production and couldn't produce more than 70 of them over the course of the summer. Thus, they chose to complete and deploy these units in ground-only configurations to pad out the Odessa and SE Asia fronts. The RGM-79[G] is merely the cheaper version, produced either in parallel or immediately subsequent to the Gundam-type.
At 10:56 where is that upscaled animation from? I’m watching the movie and the tv series and it’s both the old animation. That animation in your video looks so much better. Where is it from? I can’t find it anywhere.
I remember using the RX-78-2 in Gundam Battle Universe, and one of its weapons was a container that it would lay down on the ground which would explode when something comes close or if the Gundam shoots it. Maybe that was a Super Napalm? It's been a long time, so maybe some of what I said is off the mark. And the game is in Japanese.
Decided to crack out my MG 2.0 Proto & G-3 along with my 3.0 Grandpa, so they could watch along. The G-3's box that they're stored in was easily accessable since it's being used as part of a Gunpla box stack, with the old 1/100 Sandrock Custom and Re/100 Bawoo, that functions as a rudimentary Gunpla building table.
Thank you for making this video, Kakarot197. Much appreciated. I have always been fascinated by the RX-78 series of Gundams. Also of interest is what became of the Learning Computer technology after the end of the One Year War. Personally, I wouldn't be surprised if the technology was suppressed due to the possibility that artificial intelligence controlled Gundam units would be a deadly problem for the Earth Federation. That's probably why Psychommu and Newtype technologies were later tested. But that's just my own theory on why we rarely see this technology again later in the Universal Century.
The funny part about the wacky Gundam/Hyper Hammer is that it unknowingly becomes a counter to I-Fields which would become very prevalent in mid to late UC, implying that aside from the specs, the Grandaddy gundam can go toe to toe with later mobile suits. I mean, we even see that shite being used by the Amakusa's in Crossbone, granted those AI machines are pretty much Amuro's pilot and combat data. The grandaddy will always be my favorite suit along side the GP series as they can pretty much hold themselves in most timelines bar 00 and Turn A (then again, most starting mobile suits in their respective series are pretty much an homage to the OG)... If only they made a DLC in Cross Rays with all the commonly known RX-78 variants before abandoning the game, it would've been perfect.
10:59 This animation looks new and contemporary, Ive seen what looks like modern day redraws like this of these classic scenes. What is this from if I may ask?
I kept wondering why the background music sounded so damn familiar. Then I realized it was from a dreamcast classic I hadn't played in more than 2 decades. Hell yeah 🤓
So for a question of the week, I have a what if. What if Zeon went with the Zudah instead of the Zaku? Then to follow this up, what if they pushed back their planned assault back a year to work out the bugs of the Zudah.
The Zudah would act the same way as the Zaku I but the only way it would've worked is that if Zimmand was able to Intercept Zeonic's Bribery and stop them so they can win by default Also they would have to constantly fix the limiter even with a year deadline the Principality wasn't gonna hold out another year with wanting to strike the Feds as soon as possible
The Learning Computer is in the Gundam, but possibly the data backups are in the Core Fighter? It might be so high-performance that the LC either had to piggyback on the Gundam's support systems (power delivery, cooling, etc.) or that it simply did not fit in the Core Fighter. (Dunno what they though computers should be sized at in the 70s.)
Also, the Gundam Hammer seems to be more of a Kusari-fundo or Kusarigama variant than an actual medieval flail. It aesthetically matches a sort of flail like weapon, but is never used like one, nor like a mace or cat-o-nine-tails.
On the topic of the rx-78-1 gundam, it's possible that the FA gundam we see in Thunderbolt, is actually one of the rx-78-1 units. Shares the same indentations on the arm, same 3 holes on the foot ankle armor, and the same darkish color scheme, just modified by the Moore Brotherhood. (On a realistic note, the rx-78-1 was most likely used as a basis or reference for the designs of the main gundam in that series, as they have done for multiple other older MS.) Edit: looking further into it, its definitely probable. Appeared in 0079, and coupled with the info I said before, it's very likely that it is.
Overhyping the Learning Computer a bit. I'm not belittling its importance but, when you get down to it, it wasn't as incredible as they made it out. Essential, but not incredible. The thing was, basically, a combat assistant computer. The more it was brought into combat, the easier it was to pilot as it helped lift some of the burden from the pilot. Aim assistance. Obvious feature today. Super sci-fi back in the 70s. As for other suits with it, the game G Generation Genesis does shed a light. Since this is a game, naturally it shouldn't be taken at face value. Seems that the rest of the RX-78 line were equipped with the computer. Even the Pixie units. But some high-end GMs were installed with them as well, like the White Dingo's GM Sniper II.
@@alejandro9043 Computer support and computer prediction are two different things. What the Learning Computer does is simple make it easier to pilot as it learns how to fight and flight like its pilot. Very similar to modern day as computers assist in many vehicles and other such jobs. Taking the strain off the pilots somewhat.
@@SwiftGundam My point stand still, like, i understand what're you saying but I never meant to compare their functions, all that i'm saying is that if there's a computer system in the Gundam franchise that could literally make a MS too op and broken to the point of not even being funny, well that have to be the Zero System, everything else is mostly fine to op in their own ways, because, even the Zero System, as broken as it's, is still very "tame" system compare it to other very "nasty" special system that other MS have y'know.

Hey, Kakarot, I don't know if it's ever been written anywhere in Gundam cannon, but what do you think the Mobile Suit operational doctrine for the Federation and Zeon is respectively? I'm curious how MS would fit into the both side's militaries.
Rather disturbing image of the Gundam running around carrying a Hyper Bazooka at a caliber larger than the main cannon of a Xamel. No hovercrafts, no chonky armor, it just does it like how the Red Frame swings that big ass katana hanging on the side of its ship.

Is the hammer and javelin even canon?
I think Unit 1 was scrapped for parts. Remember, when Zeon came upon the activation of Unit 2, they were shocked since they thought it was a bunch of parts meaning they must have seen either unit 1 or 3 but it was not completely assembled for combat.
One of the games I played had 4 Gundam guntanks and guncannons at side 7, and if the info is correct with one of the units at side 7 being in g3 colors then 3 where in rx-78 2 colors and 1 was in rollout g3 colors, also there is a picture from a magazine showing that 15 rx-78-1 where built
Science fiction's most prototyped and most researched piece of machinery
The rollout colour scheme, prototype and G3 are the best in design, as they are the most realistic and believable. Something Yoshiyuki Tomino initially envisioned the Gundam to be instead of the iconic tri-colour scheme.
If a weapon is not built for stealth, why having a flashy color scheme would be necessarily a bad thing?
Also, yes, my gotta love the Realistic 20 metres tall Humanoid Weapons.
IIRC the tri-color scheme was forced upon Sunrise by the Clover, the pre-Bandai toy sponsor to compete with super robot toy sales smh

In gundam origin manga all the guntank and guncannon remain intact
I like this idea, I imagine Amuro piloting G3, sayla piloting the tri color version, and John job piloting the prototype.

but still the History of the RX-78 from Units 1-3 are along with the Core Fighter are so convoluted I love it helps me understand UC Technology
A crazy drug addict could utilize gundam hammer with greater degree, even took out gundam messiah head
16:21 I had no idea that the Final Shooting was literally a pilotless Gundam vs Char.
I want to see the 0079 novels be adapted by Mamoru Oshii, where the RX-78-2 is in it's rollout colours.
It would have been awesome to see in the Gihren's greed games a scenario where a Side 7 WASN'T attacked, with the White Base instead being able to successfully retrieve all Operation V units.
IIRC you can basicaly give char noo go signal to the attack on side 7 on the gihren route. This actaully benifetail since amuro doesn't end up killing half your roster of aces
and giving Mc Qube more leeway to Fuck up and doesn't jeopardize the campaign
Le ding intensifies
The Raketen Bazooka eventually used by the some of the Dom line had a caliber of 880mm, so 700mm wouldn't be outside of the realm of possibility.
right? 700 mm is just over 2 foot wide
This was the comment I was looking for.
An explosive bullet about as wide as a child
I have measured the inner diameter of the bazooka on the MG 2.0 and it is 7.4 mm so it would mean the caliber is 740mm.
I definitely would love to see a development history for the three gundams of Gundam 0083 Stardust Memory. Also one for the Gelgoog Marine.

The whole squad would've wiped them out much faster if they loaded all 9 Units fsster
@@breakingbasha interesting, thanks for the info stranger

This is a phenomenally well made video that covers all the important aspects and elements of the 78 series for operation V.
I like the Gundam hammer if only because it fills the same niche as various wacky weapon concepts that have cropped up throughout history. The kinds of weapon where you know someone was like:
"It's a good idea, guys"
"Sure it failed the first time, but it'll definitely work now, guys"
"Okay, I'll give up"
Hell, in real life we've had bat bombs, torpedo dolphins, that Nazi howitzer so big they had to build train tracks ahead of it, liquid gay bombs, the robo-fart riot control system, a Russian tank on screwtreads, the list goes on and on.
What i love about the gundam universe is that the development of the weapon systems mirrors that of reality with delay, cutbacks and cost overruns.
I just love how cool prototype Gundam look like (the one that had unit 2 face), it's probably my unit after Gundam Mudrock in OYW
I've been waiting for this since you started the development history series. Great video!
Sweet video as always!
In regards to the Prototype Gundam, I was reminded of how I've been headcanoning stuff.
Would it be too much of a stretch for this:
- parts were recovered & occasionally used for RX-78-2 repairs
- what was left of that eventually reached Jaburo too & was cobbled together w/ old parts from the initial testing on Earth just in case
- it was recolored back to the old color for whatever reason & was destroyed during the Battle of Jaburo as seen in Spirits of Zeon (Ive been headcanoning at least parts of the game)
I like to think the Hyper Hammer got sharper spikes due to the Thrusters being able to quickly dislodge it were it to get stuck in enemy armor.
I can't wait to see a development history of the FSWS, I love the Full Armor Gundam.
Those cutscenes used in this video make me wish we had a new Gundam anime that was purely about the development of MS. Several anime and manga have touched on MS development, like MS IGLOO, Thunderbolt & The Origin, but we haven't had one that's ONLY about MS research and development.
I am noticing that in some of these shots that you included, one can see the Gunboy on occation.
Just one more way till the GM Development History.
Something I feel should have been talked about was the full armor gundam, not from thunderbolt but the units that faced johnny Riden with the dual beam cannons mounted on the arms
Edit: it's name is the FA 78 full armor gundam from MSV
What if the events of Zeta Gundam were completely different - with Char piloting the Zeta or the Double Zeta Gundam?
The crazy amount of lore we have just on how the Gundam came to be is crazy and it's the reason why I love Gundam, even if it is a fictional work, the amount of lore of the Mobile Suits alone is enough for an encyclopedia.
I don’t know if this is enough for a question of the week but I wonder did Bright Noa knew or he learns later that Hathaway kill Chan in Char’s Counterattack? Also How many of the 72 Gundams in IBO actually saw combat in the Calamity War? 1:59 Oh yeah, that's the in-universe reason for the V-fin...

@@breakingbasha Then how does the RGM-79[G] work into this since that supposidely predates even the RX-78 somehow?
That Prototype at 0:34 has a very very wide camera lol

But that's just my own theory on why we rarely see this technology again later in the Universal Century.
wow that's some major effort putting this video together! well done! 👍

So for a question of the week, I have a what if. What if Zeon went with the Zudah instead of the Zaku? Then to follow this up, what if they pushed back their planned assault back a year to work out the bugs of the Zudah.
The Zudah would act the same way as the Zaku I but the only way it would've worked is that if Zimmand was able to Intercept Zeonic's Bribery and stop them so they can win by default
Also they would have to constantly fix the limiter even with a year deadline the Principality wasn't gonna hold out another year with wanting to strike the Feds as soon as possible
I want to see a Gundam 0079 remake that has both the G3 and prototype Gundam in action.
Same, with some MSV suits getting in on the action as well.
"Oh yes, that one robot from Ready Player One"
I am sure someone said this😅
The Learning Computer is in the Gundam, but possibly the data backups are in the Core Fighter?
(On a realistic note, the rx-78-1 was most likely used as a basis or reference for the designs of the main gundam in that series, as they have done for multiple other older MS.)
Edit: looking further into it, its definitely probable.
It wasn't as op and broken as the Zero System, that's for sure.
