What a whimsical thing. Fun, cute looking, and possibly the most faithful representation of the Gundam as it appeared in the anime. I want to get this and the RG 2.0 together, it seems really fitting doing so.
My grandpa used to make model kits, and one of the ones he gave me was a partially completed GM from the first generation of gunpla. He hand painted them really nicely (otherwise it's all one color, off-white light green), and did such a good job putting it together (sanding and adhesive cement) that it couldn't stand on its own. There weren't rubber parts back then, so the legs swung forward and backwards freely 😅

I built quite a few of these, they aren't as bad as you would think. The 1/100 zaku 2 especially is really posable for a 1980s figure. The really cool ones are the original 1/60 kits, they have parts to add an led, were the first kits with polycaps, mostly color seperated and are roughly the size of modern perfect grades. It's awesome to own a Gelgoog that size
As someone that actually has old school grandad Gundam’s and admittedly didn’t do the best paintwork for them, this kit is a godsend and I already almost feel as nostalgic as the people in early 80’s Japan that grew up with this kit. And the color separation will make this as easy as painting a recent kit!
This is basically like Legacy United G1 Optimus Prime but for Gundam, similarly, the equivalent for the Transformers Missing Link Optimus Prime would be the RG 1/144 rx-78-2 Gundam ver.2.0, interestingly enough, both franchises are celebrating their milestone anniversaries this year (40th for TF and 45th for Gundam) and all these toys are released to celebrate them.
