I never realized Dark Souls 2 was a spiritual successor to Contra.
Dark Souls is the Contra of 3D Character Action Games
Nice to see they included Probotector versions. Kind of wished it also had Gryzor versions (C64 etc)
That and alien wars are my most nostalgic versions
it's one of the hardest games of all time obviously your computer is going to have trouble with it

Jesus! That slowdown on the arcade version of Contra! Can anyone confirm has it always been like that or is it this port that has the issue? I'm debating if i should get this. I love nes contra more either way. :)

I've only seen arcade Contra a couple of times, but it did seem a little janky.

You could just do a vertical orientation.
Hard Corp is the correct speed its just they were playing Contra 3 before hand which is a slower paced game, so going from that to Hard Corp which is frantic as fuck then its fairly jarring!
No "Contra force" for nes in this collection. A pity..
So... Was all the slowdown they got in the arcade version of Contra actually accurate?
I believe it was caused by them spamming bullets with the rapid fire feature added into the collection.

Single player did not have slowdown like that in the arcade
In two player mode, yes.

Super Probotector was the supposedly less violent version of Contra III: The Alien Wars. It's the same game but the player characters are replaced with robots because some nut thought that robots with guns was less violent than people with guns. It was released PAL territories.
There may have been some other justification for the change but at the time Nintendo's view was that robot violence was ok for children, but people violence wasn't. This view expressed itself in many titles, including Contra Hard Corps, which also had robotic characters in another version.
Think it was a German thing. I imported the NTSC version specifically because I didn't want to play as a robot.
@@DenkyManner It was robots in Australia too. I didn't like the video game violence complaints at the time, but I grew to like the robot characters more in the end. They just seemed cooler to me, and more believable because there's no way a person could do all the stuff they could. Super Probotector remains one of my favourite games from the era. For anyone wondering why they called it that, it's a mashup of Robot Protector.
