Correction- this is not the same team who made the first one, but rather a second team. I believe this is because the original team is really good at porting NES games, and this had none of those in it.
The original team (Digital Eclipse) was also busy making The Disney Afternoon Collection for Capcom.
That's absolutely right; this is not a Digital Eclipse product. It's a shame that Giant Bomb didn't do their research before this Quick Look.
Worth noting that Proto Man take double damage as a trade off for having a charge shot and a slide.

Kind of jacked up to separate it two collections. 1 set of 10 mega man games would be nicer.. They should've charged less for this one since it is just 4 games.

actually they didn't have the licencing at the time. Most people didn't even think this collection would've happened. And it's still great value. Also you can always wait for a Steam sale and grab both for less than the price of one. ;)

Look I'm not going to sit here with a straight face and tell you that MM8 is a great game....but it does have some of the BEST music in the series. The OST is pretty much flawless.

Charge the same price for 4 games, two of which are the worst in the series by a mile and a landslide. Should have just made an X Collection. Or put in Power Battles and Power Fighters instead of 7 and 8.

Making Megaman 9 & 10 in the "8 bit style" killed the franchise
eh not really. the franchise was already pretty stagnant. good games here and there (especially on the handhelds) but nothing setting world on fire i don't think. i would say the X series did more damage to the series with 7 and 8 by simply being horrible games then megaman 9 and 10 did by appeasing to nostalgia.
Uh, the franchise had already been dead since MM8. 12 years earlier. MM9 was really well received and as far as I saw almost everyone loved the faithful throwback to a better time. Specifically, a time before MM8 - A lot like how Sonic Mania is managing to be a good Sonic game by pretending nothing after Sonic 3 ever happened.
No, Mega Man as a whole has been plenty dead a lot of times, even counting the spinoffs. X fell apart sometime after the fourth installment, Zero was good but made drastic changes to the formula and was quite niche, same for the ZX games... They had nothing to lose by releasing MM9 in the way they did.
Now you can play all eight mega man games on your PC and continue to pretend, rightfully so, that 7 and 8 never existed.
