Just found your channel. The fact that you mention Bava’s Black Sabbath in The Vourdalak segment gets you a follow. I’m a long time horror fan who has trouble navigating all the new movies coming out and just finding something worth watching. Thanks!
Hi Daniel! Recently watched Longlegs and Late Night with the Devil, and wow, super enjoyed them. Very, very creepy. Next on the agenda is Immaculate, Alien Romulus, and The First Omen. Thanks for another awesome video!
I am shocked that STRANGE DARLING is so low. I have agreed with you on so many things I feel like we have very similar tastes (even among genre fans) but Strange Darling is probably one of the two best new films I've seen this year. Though, if there was a message, I missed it.
I loved LongLegs saw it 3 times in the theater. That took Late night with the devil's place as my best of the year. Thank u for putting strange darling and oddity on my radar. I saw oddity trailers and didn't think it would be as good as u made it seem. Will check out for sure. Strange Darling and frogman will be on my watch list
The Loveland OH frog is a ... 'real' cryptid, but there are different versions of what this thing is suppose to be. I am happy that a lot of places like Point Pleasant WV or Popelick KY are embracing their local monster legends.
My top 10 is 10. Maxxxine 09. Blink Twice 08. Immaculate 07. Abigail 06. Oddity 05. Strange Darling 04. The First Omen 03. Late Night With the Devil 02. Longlegs 01. The Substance
Longlegs is my favorite so far. My favorite kind of atmosphere in a movie. Have you happened to watch the found footage film on TH-cam called Milk and Serial? If you haven't, I highly recommend it. Truly a surprise! Was not expecting it to be as good as it is.😊
Imaginary was excellent Yall wanna see some good horror movies in my opinion And yall can thank me later 😂❤ 1) An taibhse 2024 Irish folklore horror 2) NETFLIX THE DELIVERANCE YALL WATCH THAT IS U WANNA KNOW THE TRUTH OF EVIL AND HOW IT ALL WORX 3) LONGLEGS W NIC CAGE ❤ NIC CAGE HAS BEEN BANGING OUT MOVIES AND HE DIRECTS LONGLEGS AND IF UR A REAL HORROR FAN THIS ONE IS EXCELLENT ❤ Here's a bonus for yall Bonus movie watch the front room 2024 with Brandy
Been a fun year so far! And to think we have stuff to look forward to in October! Love seeing Oddity so high. Probably my favorite of the year so far. It gave me Hammer Horror vibes, mainly due to the setting. The house, that kind of looked like a castle, reminded me of a castle they would have used in the Hammer movies. Same with the plot overall. Gotta see Frogman and The Vourdalak. Gonna catch them soon.
Love your content! The director of Oddity also directed Caveat (2020) which is really good as well. If by some chance you haven't seen it, check it out.
LOL shots fired at me on the movies leaving theaters too fast without building an audience hahahaha....it more worries me that going so fast will help kill physical media and theaters and I am old and protective of those 2 things LOL... BUT 100% true on the convienance...I spent years as a single dad with very small children and getting to the theater often was super hard...bring me the "Direct To Video Rental Stores" model back! I so miss browsing rental stores and taking a chance on a movie based on almost nothing more than Cover Art and a 3 sentence blurb on back haha... I really want to see In a Violent Nature and Longlegs.... havent got to check them out...MaXXXine I am in no hurry for... Great video as always brother! Cobwebs Coffee Club in full effect!
haha Nooooo, no shots fired. I understand the perspective. But one thing to remember about Maxxxine is it wasn’t successful at the box office at all. So it’s not a surprise it’s coming to home video so fast.
Love this Channel Cobwebs we have the same tastes and I own pretty much everything you own. I agree with this list and have seen all these at the Show.
Thanks so much for your candid reviews, Daniel. I'm anxious to look into some of the movies. BTW, another film that used the same Aleksey Tolstoy story as "The Vourdalak" is the 1972 Italian movie "Night of the Devils." If you haven't seen this movie, I highly recommend it. Very unnerving. It was one of only two horror films directed by Giorgio Ferroni (the other was "Mill of the Stone Women.")
I agree about Maxxxine, it was a very hollow movie with an unlikeable constantly petulant lead character and terrible hammy over acting in the weak ending. Strange Darling was easily ranked 1 so far. Best performance of the year by Willa, she was complex, nuanced but then she gets very intense. A really character actress and Oscar worthy. It was a gripping chase and inventive horror. Oddity sounds really good. Will check it out.
So sad that I haven't seen a single one of these. I really hope Long Legs comes to Shudder. Looks like it's another great year for horror, though! These are the good times, my dudes. 10/10 fricheks
Thanks for the great videos. Really interested in The Vourdalak and Oddity - the Oddity's directors first film Caveat is on Shudder, and is really good (if not great). Looks like the second film could be a step up. Got to tell you that I don't get where you're coming from with Longlegs - very disappointing, the thrilling opening sequence is as good as it gets and it's downhill from there.....
They should have called your number 4 Walking Violently Through Nature. Maybe in the sequel they will take a page out of the Lord of the Rings films and have the trees walk!
Great list and great job at presenting the movies Without spoilers. I would prefer you didnt show that many clips from the movies even though I understand the motivation. Those just count as mini-spoilers for me.
x I am going to move the guest picks (The Brain, Rawhead Rex, Slugs, Alligator, X-Tro) to September 4th. x I am going to start watching the Halloween franchise (13 Movies) starting on September 1st (start of the Halloween season) , one-a-day, to see how far I can get.
Sadly, modern horror just doesn't work for me, I wont go into all the reasons, but there is little I like. I haven't watched any of these films on the list, but Frogman, Oddity and Vourdalak sounds interesting and I want to check them out.
Not quite like lock...the ch sounds a little you're clearing your throat, lol! I'm scanning my brain for a comparable English word with that sound, but can't think of any. So I guess "lock" is as good as any.
Longlegs or Wrong Legs? Could have been better! Cage was more annoying than sinister, like he should have been pushing a shopping cart of recyclables! Most kills were in flashback glimpses and my wife's guess of the ending would have been better than the actual. Maybe it was the shift from a psychological serial killer mystery to a supernatural secret cult leader flick that gave me dismay. 😮
x Watched DeepStar Six, great movie! o The vibe of being at such a deep and dark place undersea is really spooky! o The movie is kept thrilling as it is hard to predict anything that is going to happen! o One of the best kills in any horror movie that I have seen is when Jim Richardson is bit in half while he is in that airlock has the JIM Suit on! o I thought that Miguel Ferrer's performance as the scared-to-the-point-of-being-out-of-control Snyder was excellent, very realistic! o I thought Nancy Everhard's performance as the calm and collected Joan Collins was excellent and I am surprised that she isn't on more horror movies! x 10:44 There is the town for the Mothman, it is Point Pleasant, West Virginia o The video "The Mothman: Harbinger of Disasters?" from Decoding The Unknown was one of my topics. † The essence of how the Mothman is explained in that video would make a fantastic horror franchise! x It's such an amazing Top 10...but because I have such a massive amount of movies for the spooky season I am going to have to basically find the best time and opportunity to watch them (if I am able to watch them). o For the float movies for the spooky season, I have: † At the #1 spot the double feature of Neo 80s (My Best Friend's Exorcism then Totally Killer). † At the #2 spot Longlegs. † At the #3 spot Strange Darling (that looks like a breakout performance for the lead actress). † At the #4 spot Immaculate.
Saw STRANGE DARLING and I was underwhelmed. By the end, I was just waiting for it to wrap up. I don't want to go into detail because if you want to see it, you should go in blind. I think it will be a darling for a lot of people. If I ran a video store still, I would have bought multiple copies. It is well made, the acting is good, and the structure is clever. And it was shot entirely in 35mm. I really wished I liked it but it just fell apart for me in the third act. There were things about it earlier that I didn't like as well. It was trying to say something that I had seen done in other films and it wasn't well executed here. Sorry to be vague but if you want to see it, I absolutely don't want to spoil anything. So, I guess A for effort but I am glad it was only seven bucks. Pretty much how I felt about THE FIRST OMEN except the pacing on this one was much better except for the third act.
I do want to say that Alien Romulus was good, as u said like a walk through a funhouse. And Late Night With The Devil because it was different. The story was interesting, acting top notch.
Dang bro Disappeared Completely. or vice versa ...Scariest movie since Hereditary.....true folk horror...but Cultural differences made most miss the HORRIFIC message. Luckily Im half Latino, so it hit hard. Also Hispanic humor, people missed it. Its happening in Mexico as we speak. True ly horrific. ...And I saw Oddly in small LA theater. Only person there. I agree, scary.. Long-leggs, lost it I thought. Besides Cage 😂....It was a 5 out of 10.
I keep hearing Imaginary getting criticized for feeling like "starter horror". But I think that's great. I mean I'm an old man that loves twisted bloody horror, but I also know that we need "starter horror" films to usher in the next generation of horror fans. When I was a kid in the 80s it seemed like we got a lot of those. But then for too long it seemed like we'd have to rely on Nickelodeon or something for them, and those were rarely any good. So I say bravo to Blumhouse for giving us something like Imaginary.
I'll get mobbed for this, but I don't care. Mia Goth is such an overrated actress and a one trick pony. X was actually really enjoyable, Pearl bored the crap out of me and I won't bother with Maxxxine.
In a violent nature was friday the 13th with very poor acting, never thought I'd say that in 2024 lol and what the hell was the ending about?and i love friday the 13th
Name one Blumhouse product that doesn't feel like a cheap tv movie. Maxxxine was pretty good, but certainly a lesser film than Pearl, but statement on vapidity of fame for a message? Violent Nature, one trick pony, boring, zoned out. Leaves crunching... walking towards something... woah. Needed to be a lot more ambitious visually to satisfy (it didn't), kills were incredibly average. Oddity was just terrible, mostly due to actors and script, but it kinda looked ok. Longlegs was a mess - I really enjoyed Blackcoat, but Longlegs was dreadful, completely anachronistic Cage performance - should have saved that for a Color Out of Space sequel (I know...), but what the hell? It went from serious and moody to comedy? Most plot holes I've seen in a while too. The nun getting shot was good - funny though. Cuckoo - not CooCoo, think of the word Cuckold (that originates from Cuckoo). Lochtseness? Lock-ness. Really enjoyed Visher - micro-budget/indie, sucked me in. Humane - Caitlin Cronenberg proving nepo-babies are ok sometimes. Destroy All Neighbours - fun!
I’m tired of horror movies that have all these bonkers elements and completely flop in the reveal or conclusion. Cuckoo looks like the perfect example of this and I just don’t have the desire to see it. Longlegs was mid. Oddity was better but not fantastic.
Longlegs was terrible; not only incredibly boring, but it had one aspect that really turned me off.... within the first 15 or 20 mins the movie strongly suggests the (rather disappointing) explanation of what is going on, but hints it is going to evolve into something much more interesting. OK I'm on board now. Yet by the end it settles for that simple first explanation. wth? Was expecting so much more after the build-up and hints. And Longlegs himself came across like some crazy bum off the street. He was laughable not creepy or scary.
I agree although I don't dislike it as much as you. I also think it's needed. We have atrocious films, amazing films,... And we need dull films to appreciate the other films we get.
Abigail was a surprise gem for me. i love a small cast in a small space. thats hard to pull off. it gets a bigger love for me when Danzig came on. holy crap, i jumped out of my chair lol
They need better/creative writers .. movies now are 💩.. remakes no style.. 80s and 90s were it the last great decades for horror & movies in general! …
Oddity should've been number one. I know you said it's the scariest and has the best jumpscare, but it's also the best film. The acting is stellar, the atmosphere is bewitching, and that wooden screaming golem dude is iconic. Plus, it's so rewatchable, which is a sign of greatness. Late Night With The Devil was excellent the first time, but did not hold up the second time I watched it. Long Legs was predictable, clichéd and boring. I really enjoyed Maxxxine. I liked the giallo influence, the humour( "Drop it!...Buster.") and the way all 3 movies in the trilogy are in a different time and have such contrasting atmospheres. I think watching the complete trilogy would be a great experience.🫡
From this list I have only seen “MaXXXine”, “Oddity” and “Longlegs”. The first two are good, although Maxxx has a weak ending, quite weak. On the other hand, I found “Longlegs” boring and pedantic.
Nice!! Really glad you enjoyed those!
I've seen both "Immaculate" and "The First Omen" They're very different takes on a similar premise, and they're both really good.
I am shocked that STRANGE DARLING is so low.
I have agreed with you on so many things I feel like we have very similar tastes (even among genre fans) but Strange Darling is probably one of the two best new films I've seen this year.

The Loveland OH frog is a ... 'real' cryptid, but there are different versions of what this thing is suppose to be. I am happy that a lot of places like Point Pleasant WV or Popelick KY are embracing their local monster legends.
I’ve read frogman stories before, as I’m into cryptid stuff. Never thought there’d be a movie about it though. Have to see that one. 🐸
I was really worried in a violent nature would be boring but yeah, I was intrigued the whole time, and never bored
I got a feeling at the end of the year it's gonna be Terrifier 3.

It was amazing !!!!
In a Violent Nature had one of the best kill scenes EVER! Visually beautiful.
LONGLEGS, Cuckoo, Alien Romulus, and Strange Darling were all ridiculously good!
Longlegs is overhyped trash.
I agree about Maxxxine, it was a very hollow movie with an unlikeable constantly petulant lead character and terrible hammy over acting in the weak ending. Strange Darling was easily ranked 1 so far. I understand, and thank you for the feedback. I will say, the clips are only from trailers.
What are your thoughts on Salem’s Lot only getting a streaming release in Oct? I’m so disappointed not to get to see it in theatres!
Honestly, I’m just happy we actually get to see it. I thought it was *this close* to being another WB tax write off.

Where did you get your shelves? If you don’t mind me asking I’m actually looking for some good shelves lol

The Devil’s Bath on Shudder is the best horror film of the year so far. Check it out- I think you’ll like it!

x Watched DeepStar Six, great movie!
o The vibe of being at such a deep and dark place undersea is really spooky!
o The movie is kept thrilling as it is hard to predict anything that is going to happen!
o One of the best kills in any horror movie that I have seen is when Jim Richardson is bit in half while he is in that airlock has the JIM Suit on!
o I thought that Miguel Ferrer's performance as the scared-to-the-point-of-being-out-of-control Snyder was excellent, very realistic!
o I thought Nancy Everhard's performance as the calm and collected Joan Collins was excellent and I am surprised that she isn't on more horror movies!
x 10:44 There is the town for the Mothman, it is Point Pleasant, West Virginia
o The video "The Mothman: Harbinger of Disasters?" from Decoding The Unknown was one of my topics.
† The essence of how the Mothman is explained in that video would make a fantastic horror franchise!
x It's such an amazing Top 10...but because I have such a massive amount of movies for the spooky season I am going to have to basically find the best time and opportunity to watch them (if I am able to watch them).
o For the float movies for the spooky season, I have:
† At the #1 spot the double feature of Neo 80s (My Best Friend's Exorcism then Totally Killer).
† At the #2 spot Longlegs.
† At the #3 spot Strange Darling (that looks like a breakout performance for the lead actress).
† At the #4 spot Immaculate.

I’m tired of horror movies that have all these bonkers elements and completely flop in the reveal or conclusion.
Cuckoo looks like the perfect example of this and I just don’t have the desire to see it.
Longlegs was mid. Oddity was better but not fantastic.
Oddity and Longlegs were terrible movies IMO
Too many spoilers… sorry too much revelation
Omg dude sorry but Imaginary??? You just lost 5 credibility points for having that garbage on any list that has the word "best" in it
Imaginary sucked...big time.
Longlegs does not live up to the hype. Super slow and the ending is nonsensical. Yawn!
Agreed. Hated it. Highly disappointed
@@scottmoore3043 I think you hit the nail on the head. The way the movie presents itself makes every audience member's guess better than what we get.
@@ghostlightx9005 True that! 👍 At least it wasn't as bad as Watchers & Trap 😁
Abigail was a surprise gem for me. i love a small cast in a small space. thats hard to pull off. it gets a bigger love for me when Danzig came on. holy crap, i jumped out of my chair lol
Longlegs was awful
Longlegs is overhyped trash. This whole list is trash.
Imaginary looks like another DEI agenda to me.
They need better/creative writers .. movies now are 💩.. remakes no style.. 80s and 90s were it the last great decades for horror & movies in general! …
Only 2 franchise movies on the list though!
😁
I cannot disagree more. In the past 5+ years, Horror movies have had so many hits and experimental misses.
Come back, come back Hammer. The heck with Shane
Funny enough, my next video is on Hammer! I’m editing it now.
