Those 38x38 Weber are ok as long as you don't do any offroading (the fuel bowls are shallow) now if there was a kit to put a 40 IDF on it that carb is amazing, and way easier to tune (you don't have to pull the top of the carb to jet)
I've had a couple of d50's through the years, and my brother also had a couple of his own. we weber swapped every one of them. one of the best mods for these trucks!
You should be able to swap the low pressure spring into the return style regulator. Cool little truck. I haven't seen one in forever, because I live in the rust belt
Hi Dave, I’ve got the same Weber on my rat rod beetle, (Jegs adjustable regulator, Edelbrock inline red pump). I’ve had no issues by not having a return line, though while I was in Leadville, I did have to lower the fuel pressure from 3psi to nearly 2, (7,000ft above where I originally tuned the carb). Mine’s not as pretty as your new carb, but that Progressive setup is an awesome upgrade to a standard single-pot. 👍🏻
Appreciate the heads up on the shirts. If you find a way to make kids sizes and women tank tops in the future, I'll be in for those as well. Always enjoy the builds
Best videos yet. I have the same mini truck it's a 1986. Slammed with canopy walk through. Just got done rebuilding the 2.6. Same carb with long tube headers. 2 18's on 5k watts ea is next
I had 2 of these trucks back in the day. A '79 D-50 with the yellow sport scheme and a '81 Plymouth arrow in red with gold stripes. They had the largest available engine out of all the minis. Direct Connection used to offer an intake manifold to add 2 downdraft webbers, probably the 32/36 DGV models. Be sure to change the other fuel filter back by the tank.
Those Webbers were in use in the 70's on VW's (Bug Spray carbs) and I installed a bunch of them. They also worked great on a bunch of British 4's and I even installed one on a Ford V4 (Saab Sonett). Awesome. Lately when I have to plug a line I just get a 3/4" bolt with all threads and use a fuel injection clamp. It bites on to the rubber and prevents it blowing out, Ask me how I know. lol
Actually, the Bug Spray was a different carburetor made by Holley. It was a piece of crap. I had one of these Holley/Webber carbs on my Volkswagen. It worked OK.
I have been using Webber's on all my small 4cly type engines since I was a kid my dad used them also it really wakes up them smaller motors, I had a duel set of them on a old vw bug it would fly. I would use manual choked Webers and for one reason they are jetted a little bigger and flow more CFM , Weber is a big deal in Italy like Holley is here. cool little truck have fun brother FYI Weber likes 6psi and always worked great with mechanical pumps
every carberated car i've had has had webber carbs from the mini that i got when i passed my test, apart from a couple of fiats that already had del ortos . they make short fat golf tees that i find work for plugging vac lines .
I have the exact same vehicle, only in almost perfect condition. I have the 2.0 liter though. Installed a header, 2.5" cat converter and Spintech muffler/exhaust. After a 38/38 it was a TON quicker. I also changed the crap 4 speed to a 5 speed. Fast forward - I found a RARE dual side draft intake for Weber 40 DCOEs. We'll see how that goes...
Funny, I went the exact opposite. Had a Weber on a Mighty Max 2.6 that needed constant adjustment, and was never happy with elevation changes. Ended up switching to an aftermarket Mikuni, made a little less power but was essentially set it and forget it

Just got my shirt on Thursday. 🤘🏼
Stoked you're offering tall big boy sizes! Just bought a shirt!
Best videos yet. I have the same mini truck it's a 1986. Slammed with canopy walk through. Just got done rebuilding the 2.6. Same carb with long tube headers. 2 18's on 5k watts ea is next
Sounds like a cool truck!
I remember that courier from the D.E.D Episode it was awesome.
Happy belated Bday Dave! Keep on rocking man your channel is awesome!
Great little truck man!! That’s a great parts runner to get parts and fix your Trooper!!! Lol
Literally watching this episode in my new OG shirt!!
Rad!
Awesome about the T-shirts!!! That lil truck is amazing!
Thanks! It just keeps getting better
It bites on to the rubber and prevents it blowing out, Ask me how I know. lol
I have a 70 Triumph Spitfire with one!
They are good and versatile
Thanks for the advice
Gratz on the shirt release!
every carberated car i've had has had webber carbs from the mini that i got when i passed my test, apart from a couple of fiats that already had del ortos . they make short fat golf tees that i find work for plugging vac lines .
Yep. T’s and BB’s
Those little D50s rock.
Those trucks respond really well and are happy with the Weber carb and Pacesetter Header swap.
I put a carter on my high school 76 2.0 toyota. Years of neglected maintenance was too much to rebuild. Adapter plate and done. Runs great.
Right on. That was probably a fun project
I just remembered using a pivot point on the valve cover to reverse the linkage. Worked pretty smooth
Happy B-Day!
Thank you
I have the exact same vehicle, only in almost perfect condition.
Another good trick to flatten out that adapter would be a belt sander. Leave it turned off and run smooth strokes across the belt. Works like a charm
Yep. 👍
Rad shirt Dave and happy belated 29th birthday
Haha… thank you
My shirt should be here Monday. Love the channel.
Awesome, much appreciated
Shirts At last! Immediately put my order in!
Thanks so much
Funny, I went the exact opposite. Had a Weber on a Mighty Max 2.6 that needed constant adjustment, and was never happy with elevation changes. Ended up switching to an aftermarket Mikuni, made a little less power but was essentially set it and forget it
I like the idea of a mikuni or aisin. But stripped down
@@thedirtheadshed tried to post earlier but I think TH-cam didn't like that I had a link, I got my cylinder heads from Dad's Engine Parts out of ohio, he's a great source for odds and ends for the 2.6
I remember these carbs had a cool progressive mechanical secondary.
Yeah. The 32/36 was progressive. Thats the most popular of their carbs
Man i need this for my datsun 720.. sick lil truck that dodge is clean!
Man i dropped my phone in a bucket of hydraulic oil today now my speaker doesn’t work. I don’t have any ear buds with me so I guess I’ll watch the dirt head shed with closed captions
This guy knows what to do with an avocado and a paper clip. Gitterdun
Oh man.. rough day!
