Thank you for this video. It is true, when my children got blessed giving baby names but not given any blessings on them. It was just me and my kids at church and my husband didnt come to church, so it was hard.. . It is difficult for those sisters who are singles or their spouse is not church member. 🏵️ UK

That was a very wonderful talk. The Priesthood should be taught how to give blessings. Thank you President Nelson for that clarity. God bless all of our faithful Priesthood Brothers w ho are very faithful and still need assistance. I appreciate all of you.

He hasn’t stopped speaking like this. Read all his footnotes. There are so many mysteries in his talks.
He speaks of temple mysteries so often.
Not to mention in every single one of his talks since he became prophet, he has warned us and told us prepare for the second coming of Jesus Christ.

GC is for the general church audience. Stk conference details lessons and messages for a specific area. Ward Conference is for a very specific and small audience. The priesthood with the prophet is the same as the priesthood a bishop holds. A Bishops words are aimed much more at you. ❤

To go in harmony with this talk Eld Oaks gave a wonderful talk for the priesthood holders on blessing the sick. The talk was titled healing the sick and was given in conference 9 years ago. There is great teaching in this talk as well as wonderful encouragement to priesthood holders on performing blessings. I highly recommend to see this talk and footnote it. I return to it often to keep it in remembrance.

My now ex used to tell me that because he was the priesthood holder in the house, he was in charge and he was to be obeyed. During Covid, our bishop told our ward to have sacrament at home. My now ex refused. Once we could go back to church with social distancing, he would do home sacrament for himself with our boys. (he felt he couldn't go because he was a diabetic). It was this talk and several others that helped me to understand what was going on in my marriage and how terrible things were. Elder Holland had a good one too that talk about unrighteous dominion by priesthood holders.

If only I could receive a priesthood blessing so I could be healed and feel, especially joy. I've gone through serious and severe abuse that lasted well into adulthood, even love is something I don't respond to or recognize bc I was not given or taught it, when I was five years old I promised God I'd always be good, I'm on the covenant path, I've done many ordinances including those abusers (this is very personal and can't go into detail why) even though I feel nothing, the consequences of that abuse I still struggle with, I never knew pain like this could be this bad, please remember some of us have gone through horrible things, you won't see it on the outside but our hearts hurt in ways others can't see. I choose Him, to put the Savior first, even over what happened to me.

In a noisy airport, listening to the prophet's voice close to my ear. Filled with peace. The men aren't trained to do this. Old traditions will hopefully die with the ones who also didn't know any better. I love that President Nelson listens, and that the time for change in so many areas is here. I feel that the brethren need to be trained in not just using the priesthood, but in how to give a blessing. I know it’s been talked about in church many times, but how many of the brethren really pay attention or heed what is being taught. And we as sisters also need to pay attention and be there to help support and guide our husbands as well.

My adopted father taught me that since I wasn't born in the covenant I did not have the same rights and privileges that the ones born under it do.
When I was excommunicated at 18 years old, he never allowed me to pray at family functions.
I have since learned that his knowledge of forgiveness was very limited but that's how it is.
Now many years have passed and I have come to grips with the knowledge that my kingdom will be perdition! 👍

cj, as a convert to the church I labored with many misunderstandings and teachings as a new member. It breaks my heart to see the effects these teachings and treatment have had upon you. I plead that with time you may forgive your adopted father and I assert to you that your glorious future is not perdition. Accept the love and light of the Saviour and allow his healing to touch your heart. Truly there is space in His love and in the love of a good ward to embrace you and encourage in your journey.

    • @yuuwhoo
      @yuuwhoo หลายเดือนก่อน +2

YOU ARE WRONG! Your kingdom is not perdition unless you have done something in your past or are doing something now and have not asked for forgiveness from your Father In Heaven and if needs be, have not spoken with your Bishop or State President. There are ONLY two sins that are unforgiven in this life and the life to come. That is murder and denying the Holy Ghost once you have a testimony of Him.
None of us are perfect and your adopted father is / was not either. Whether you were born in the covenant or joined the church at 80 years old, you have all the same privileges as someone born in the covenant. Please don't forget who you are. You are a child of God and He has great and wonderful blessings in store for you.
Please speak with your Bishop. If you don't know who he is, find out. And if your Bishop is the same as your father's and you don't feel comfortable speaking with him, call the Stake Executive Secretary and make an appointment to speak with Stake President. If his ES asks what or why you want to see the Stake President, simply tell him it is private. May He bless you with the knowledge you need and the courage to forth. I promise you, you will not be disappointed.

  • @sjfsaphire4659
    @sjfsaphire4659 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

I dont think that it's the father's fault of not giving his child a blessing. Nor do I feel it's right to mention that publicly.
Yes it's sad but, as a prophet ... he could have asked to help him after. Or he could have told other priesthood holders to help give him one . Or perhaps they gave the child one at their home.
On any given matter, God hears all prayers. That includes blessings given openly or not. Furthermore, whose to say if they had one or not. I'm not a priesthood holder. But I agree on concern for caring and helping fellow brethren.
And like many said single women mothers need help.
What if they were converts? And they didn't know... does that mean the ward is at fault for not stepping up or the family for not doing it ...?
I say neither. Because born into the covenant or converted, there is always help and blessings. That is what we learn when preparing getting our patriarchal blessing.
Yes we can always try again.
Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ understand us and our situations.
But to judge the father like that . Ouch.

    • @sjfsaphire4659
      @sjfsaphire4659 หลายเดือนก่อน

Just asked my father and mom about it. Just expressing my thoughts. Yes it's sad that blessings aren't given. And sure some don't know. So blessings and prayers are different. Yes. To me both are like prayers because you are talking to Heavenly Father and Jesus. But one is saying what you are blessed with the other asking for blessings. Both are sacred and both are distinctly different in being given.
So yeah ... guess we need to act on helping each other rather than offend those that don't know how. Which not knowing isn't a crime. Hopefully the father's who don't know how know now. And hopefully more blessings during these trials we face.
Lord knows I try to pray and ask for a lot of blessings. I always leave myself last.

This coming from a girl who was told by a bishop I'm not normal. And got a conditional blessing ... Yeah I can see why this hurt listening to.
Lack of trust or of knowledge or lack of accountability vs being a good example. We all know it's difficult times. That's when blessings help us.
Keep praying keep blessing . Message recieved

I've been told on many occasions by church leaders, including bishops, EQ Presidents, High Counselors and even Stake Presidents to NOT give baby blessings in the first person. They have all said to bless in the third person ("we ask thee, Lord, to bless this child").
I'd President Nelson saying the latter method is incorrect?

    • @dolphinshooter2871
      @dolphinshooter2871 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

To give a name third person is correct, but to bless the child is something you are doing. Remember the Savior said "those you bless, I will bless" . That makes it intimate and personal. What better love of a child AND the Savior to bless your children this way.

      @rm8994 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

I would encourage you to ask your current priesthood leaders what their counsel is. Everyone can learn and grow in their understanding of priesthood principles. I have always been taught to give blessings in the first person (“I bless you that …” or “we bless you with…”). I feel that is the right way to do it. When we give a blessing, we stand in the place of the Lord. That is what a priest is-a living symbol pointing to God, an intermediary bringing others to God.

Plenty examples on women giving blessings to their children can be found in church history and here is a great link to get started. -> ok.theurlis.com/womenblessings
Additionally, I believe every woman in the church would find blessings in reading Rodney Turner's book 'Women and the Priesthood.' Here's a link to a digital copy of the book -> ok.theurlis.com/womenandthepriesthood
"My wife always keeps her copy of this book by her chair and frequently praises how well the author addresses the challenging topic of women in the priesthood. I highly recommend giving it a read!"

Single brothers are heavenly fathers sons. And are often wrongly accused of being the one at fault and most matters. While the women are taught the princess syndrome, false doctrine, and are constantly padded on their little heads, and told that their love for a child is closest to the savers love., therefore greater than a fathers. And all you good fathers know that that is absolutely false.

Single mothers give a great opportunity for other priesthood holders in the church to give them a blessing. What about married guys who need a blessing? Are they supposedly out of luck like single mothers? When I broke the ball of my hip clean off I just asked a completely random priesthood holder in the hall to give me a blessing. They healed me with that blessing and I set the crutches down and never used them again. It was funny watching the doctor and nurses search all over during the next follow up doctors visit thinking they had the wrong x-rays since my hip was completely healed lol. Anyone can ask ANY priesthood holder for a blessing anywhere at anytime. Another time I was in elder's quorum and asked for a blessing to heal my eyes since my eyelids and some strange thing where I would have to peal dead skin off my entire eye lid every other day. I was given a blessing and completely healed. No you don't have to ask your bishop and really the bishop isn't the one to ask although you can ask him as well. You can ask absolutely ANY priesthood holder anywhere even randomly while walking down the street. A priesthood holder cannot give themselves a blessing lol. So there is no difference between a married father and a single mother. If you need a blessing then ask.

At a time in my life I would worry about this kind of thing. I had to bless my newborn twins. I gave one of them a great blessing. The other one I got so nervous and worried about repeating what I just said 😢 not sure I said much at all. Once I realized God is not going to hold back any blessing just because you screwed up. Especially on a innocent newborn. Jesus died for all of mankind not just LDS people. I lost my testimony when I read Joseph’s real history. But I found hope in God.

Thank you for sharing your experiences related to prayer and giving Father's blessings. The Atonement is indeed real, and the Lord will do all He can to bless each of us as we turn to Him. Babies are perfect in the sight of God, and He will grant them every possible blessing and protection within the bounds of mortal agency.
I'm sorry to hear about your loss of testimony in Joseph Smith. In light of this, I will keep you in my prayers, my friend. I encourage you to read your scriptures with renewed hope in God. The scriptures and prayer have the power to save and reveal truths from God.
I personally know that Joseph Smith is a prophet of God. He did see Jesus Christ and God, our Heavenly Father, and he translated an ancient record called the Book of Mormon. The Book of Mormon is not only a witness of Jesus Christ but also contains instructions from our Savior on how to navigate this time in history with our testimonies intact.
Thank you again for sharing, and I hope you continue to read the words of Christ, which include the Bible, every day.

It's important to consider the fruits of the event known as the "First Vision," which indeed took place and provides a basis for judging its validity. In the Bible, we are instructed to discern the truth of spiritual experiences by their fruits. In Matthew 7:20, it states, “Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.” The Book of Mormon, as a result of this vision, invites us to “ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ” (Moroni 10:4). If you do so, you will receive a personal witness from the Lord, confirming the truthfulness of the record.
The Lord promises in James 1:5 that if we lack wisdom, we can ask of God, who gives to all men liberally and upbraideth not. This direct and personal witness from the Lord can help you discern truth from error more clearly. I encourage you to read and reread the Book of Mormon, seek personal revelation through prayer, and trust in the guidance that comes from the Lord.

My take of our Prophet speak in this video was to help each member know how blessed we are to have the men who are worthy to hold the priesthood and reminding us if the Spirit speaks to bless your fellow man in a calling, and or naming of a child then we should. Thank you for the helpful reminders of blessed we are in our days to have men worthy to bless Not their families but fellow members 😊

These words of our prophet are important to me, because I had settled into some wrong attitudes about infant blessings. I had thought that it is no time to give ‘little patriarchal blessings.’ I was wrong. President Nelson is saying inspired blessings can be given during infant blessings, and I choose to be corrected. Thankful!

Question: PRES NElson needs to be more specific about the first example that he gives of the father giving his child a name, but not a blessing. What are the specifics? Pres Nelson agrees that the child was in fact given a name folllowed by what he regarded as a beautiful prayer, but which did not amount to a blessing. How so? Dont leave us guessing. Provide the specifics - did the father fail to make reference to his priesthood authority? And if so, then the consideration is one of blessing by the power and authrity of the father's paternity is it not? No father has need of any authority to bless his own child, surely? But if one wants to regard the presentation of a child before the congregation and DEITY with the naming of the child and providing a blessing in the absence of quoting priesthood authority for whatever reason, surely the child has still been blessed, by the father. No? In the absence of priesthood authority, then the blessing must devolve to the authority of paternity. If the fault was one of ignorance the bishop could have easily rectified the situation in situ, but evidently didn't. So too could have President Nelson, but likewise didn't. So, instead of fingerpointing what is a practical solution? To my mind it is a quick consultation by the bishop with whoever will bless the child to remind such person of the necessity of referencing priesthood authority when delivering the same. Risk avoided.

I don’t think this is finger pointing, rather using an example to remind what should be done. Some people learn better with example. If he was finger pointing, he would have used a name and probably be rude. That isn’t what happened. Pres. Nelson was teaching. You can read what should be done in a blessing in the handbook.

The reason I posted this video is that it contains instructions from President Nelson to church leaders about teaching those within their stewardship the difference between giving a prayer and a blessing.
The prophet has stated that, although this might have been taught clearly in the past, it has since been forgotten or that many within the priesthood never received the necessary training on proper priesthood blessings.
May we each take this instruction to our unit leaders and request that it be properly taught, so that those holding the Priesthood of God may better bless His children during these last days before the return of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Darcy it is a little harsh to judge the worthiness of a priesthood holder on the results of a blessing. First in mind is the will of the Lord, next the faith of the recipient of the blessing. Obviously the worthiness in the priesthood bearers is very important as they anoint and then sanctify the anointing, and they should prepare themselves with a quiet prayer for their officiating and to seek the spirit to guide them. The actual words are the least important as part of the blessing, though may give comfort to loved ones in attendance. I have participated in blessings where the words expressed were extremely comforting to family and friends almost as if the words of the blessing were for them. Participating in a blessing is a very sacred and humbling experience and pray you would see the sincerity and love in their efforts.

🚨THE GOSPEL OF THE WORD OF ALMIGHTY GOD "the Salvation of the last day that Christ brought in the second and last incarnation of the His new and holy name"
(Anyone can use their own words and actions to represent their true face. This true face is, of course, their nature. If you are someone who talks in a roundabout way, you have a twisted nature. If your nature is cunning, you act in a deceitful way, and you make it very easy for others to trick you. If your nature is empathetic, your words will be reasonable, and your actions will also be in accordance with the truth. If your nature is honest, your words are certainly sincere and your course of action is practical, there will be no cause for your boss to be upset. If your nature is lustful or greedy for money, your heart will often be filled with these things, and you will unwittingly do deviant and immoral things that will be hard for people to forget and that will make them fall into trouble. . As I said, if you have a nature of betrayal, you will find it difficult to get out of it. All My words, whenever I speak, are addressed to all people, not just to one person or one type of person. In the search for the truth, other people lose their trust when their marriage takes a hit. Other people abandon their obligation to be faithful to Me in times of family breakdown. Other people leave Me to look for a moment of joy and fun. Some people would rather fall into a dark abyss than live in the light and enjoy the work of the Holy Spirit. Other people ignore the advice of friends just to satisfy their lust for wealth, and even now are unable to recognize their error and change their course. Aren't these and other immoral and, moreover, dishonorable acts just behaviors by which people have long betrayed Me in the depths of their hearts ?)
      Almighty God said
ANYONE can USE their OWN WORDS and ACTIONS to REPRESENT their TRUE FACE. This TRUE APPEARANCE is, of course, their NATURE. ☀️

If your nature is lazy, everything you say is aimed at avoiding responsibility for your indifference and laziness, and your actions will be slow and casual, and very good at covering up the truth. ☀️
If your nature is empathetic, your words will be reasonable, and your actions will also be in accordance with the truth. If your NATURE is HONEST, your WORDS are DEFINITELY SINCERE--HEARTED and your course of action is practical, NOTHING will cause your boss to be upset. 🙏🛑
IF your NATURE is covetous or greedy for MONEY, your HEART will often be filled with these things, and you will unwittingly do deviant and IMMORAL THINGS that will be HARD for PEOPLE to forget and will drive them crazy . As I said, if you have a nature of betrayal, you will find it difficult to get out of it. 😪
Don't count on luck that if you haven't sinned against others you don't have the nature of betrayal. If that's what you think, you really are disgusting. All My words, whenever I speak, are addressed to all people, not just to one person or one type of person. Just because you have never betrayed Me in one thing does not prove that you cannot betray Me in another ☀️
In the search for the truth, other people lose their trust when their marriage takes a hit. OTHER people ABANDON their OBLIGATION to be FAITHFUL to Me in TIMES of FAMILY BREAKDOWN. Other people LEFT me to FIND a MOMENT of JOY and FUN. 😪
Some people would rather fall into a dark abyss than live in the light and enjoy the work of the Holy Spirit. Other people ignore the advice of friends just to satisfy their lust for wealth and even now are unable to recognize their mistake and change their course. Other people only TEMPORARILY RESIDENCE UNDER My NAME to RECEIVE My CARE, while others are FORCEDLY ALLOCATING Me a LITTLE because they CLING to LIFE and FEAR DEATH. 🛑
Aren't these and other IMORAL and, moreover, dishonorable ACTIONS just ATTITUDES by which PEOPLE HAVE BETRAYED Me to the DEPTH of their LONG TIME? HEARTS?
Of course, I know that people do not plan ahead to betray Me; their betrayal is a natural revelation of their nature. ☀️
No one wants to betray Me, and no one is happy because they have done something to betray Me. On the contrary, they tremble with fear, don't they? So, are you wondering how to redeem these betrayals, and how to change the current situation? 🛑🙏

The point of this talkl is that many men have received the priesthood and for some reason they refuse or they are afraid to use it to bless others. In this they act like the servant in the parable of the talents who hid his one talent because he was afraid. As a man uses his priesthood power to bless others his faith, compassion and empathy will grow, the more he does this the more his capacity to love and serve his fellow men women and children will grow exponentially.

Based on your scripture selection you may interpret grace as a "license to sin," believing that since they are forgiven by grace, their actions - including disobedience to God's commandments - are inconsequential or already forgiven regardless of their behavior.
The proper teaching of grace empowers believers to live in obedience to God's commandments out of love and gratitude for what Christ has done. The apostle Paul, for example, argues in Romans 6 that grace is not a license to sin but rather freedom from sin's power, leading to righteousness (Romans 6:1-14).
It is through keeping the commandments that we receive grace upon grace. The over 150 verses of scripture listed in this collection make it clear what the Lord requires of us: to keep His commandments. The keeping of His commandments is the works to which we are commanded as true believers in Jesus Christ.

He never mentioned that people “suffer” because they don’t receive a proper blessing. It’s just unfortunate that the one giving the blessing missed that opportunity. It doesn’t mean that the receiver will suffer because of that, after all, is not the only blessing the person will receive in his or her entire life, more blessings will come to the person, God is just and merciful, a loving Heavenly Father eager to bless His children, and won’t let people “suffer” or be without blessings because one person didn’t know how to give a blessing. After all He knows what we need without even asking.

Child blessings to give them a name are not a saving ordinance. The father can bless that child to go on a mission and get married in the temple, but the child still has their agency to do as the choose. If they don't get a name and a blessing they can still choose to go on a mission and get married in the temple. I feel sorry for the father that was made an example of by Pres Nelson, assuming it actually happened.

Every blessing and naming of a child that I have ever heard is always done wrong for a number of reasons:
    (1) You are addressing your Father in Heaven. So it is opened with a "Prayer" (hence "Our Father in Heaven"...). The "blessing" is done through the prayer addressing "Our Father in Heaven" to provide all such blessings as dictated/inspired to "ask" during this type of Priesthood Ordinance. The problem is...after the opening and the pronouncement of the Priesthood Authority, the one standing as "voice" (i.e. father, grandfather, any other Priesthood holder) starts speaking "directly" to the child in blessing format (i.e. "I bless you that...").
    (2) The most common problem is stating by the "Power" rather than the "Authority" of the Priesthood. It doesn't matter if one states "by the Power", as long as it is followed by (preceded or otherwise) "the Authority" of the respective Priesthood being used.

Without a doubt, intolerance can be found among people of every faith or church. We have been commanded to love our neighbor, yet in modern times, this commandment can sometimes take a dark turn. Today, more and more people believe that to love someone means to affirm unhealthy or harmful practices or beliefs as being good or beneficial.
Regarding Mormon Stories podcast, it’s important to note that they financially benefit from sharing of stories of others that often appeal to those in the online audience discontented with their faith leaders and/or faiths doctrine.
Indeed, people are imperfect and sometimes make poor choices that can harm themselves and others emotionally, physically, and spiritually. The Lord has provided us with a way to heal and overcome such pains and afflictions.
The so-called “blessing” mentioned in your post can actually lead to darkness. When individuals break commandments, they turn away from God, and eventually, from His Son, Jesus Christ, and His teachings.
As society drifts away from Jesus Christ, it tends to distort what He did and taught. For instance, the Chinese government has been rewriting the Bible for years, presenting a different version of Jesus-one who harms or kills others rather than forgives and heals .
It is crucial to be discerning about the stories and teachings we engage with.
      New Bible - th-cam.com/video/pXPUzpmzBPI/w-d-xo.html
As for church leadership, they, like us, are accountable to God for their actions and choices. My personal prayer is that we all strive each day to draw closer to Jesus Christ rather than away from Him.
I know this may sound simplistic, but truth is often simple. I could spend hours detailing how I have come to know the truth of this, but each person must judge the fruits for themselves.
These are the last days, and the fruits are ripening every day. May we each choose to be good fruit and do good, inviting others to do the same.

Without a doubt, President Nelson may take a bit of getting used to. When his wife Wendy says he has been “unleashed,” I believe this is true. Think about it: what has he witnessed in the 100 years he has been alive? Consider all the church leaders over the past century with whom he has known and worked personally.
He has clearly been chosen to lead the Church today, and he speaks the words of Christ or the words Christ would speak if He were here with us.
In my own studies of the scriptures in recent years, I have often had questions about timing and other matters. In short order, President Nelson would drop hints that those with ears to hear could immediately recognize.
One such statement he made during a conference talk spoke volumes to me because I had been studying my scriptures. The Church even created a whole webpage on its site to highlight the significance of the couple of sentences he shared, further revealing their importance for those who were paying attention.
Trust me when I say that President Nelson is the Lord’s prophet on the earth today. He, like you and I, is not perfect; the Lord uses imperfect people to do His work.

I held this post for a few days to carefully consider how to address your valid concerns regarding the jab and the endorsement letter released by the Church.
Please keep in mind that what I’m about to say should be taken with a grain of salt, as I don't speak for the Church or for the Lord Jesus Christ. Although my profile picture is of the Savior, which makes me uncomfortable, it also compels me to be more thoughtful and considerate in my response.
The jab has indeed caused hardship within the Church, as many members share your perspective on the matter. It’s evident that a division has occurred within the Church’s wards and stakes.
Members who chose not to take the jab are still looked down upon by some as failing to follow the prophet, while those who did are often viewed as having followed guidance. Other that took the jabs have suffered serious illness or even deaths in the family. Others appear to be health and strong with no side effects in the least for taking the jabs.
It’s worth noting that the Church's official vaccination policy in the general handbook did not change during COVID. Although a letter was sent to Church members, it did not alter the official vaccination policy.
So, when you suggest that Church leaders instructed us to get the jab, I would argue that at most, they only suggested it, as the official policy remained unchanged.
A close examination of the letter released to Church members, including its punctuation, raises more questions than it answers.
Why issue any statement at all is the question?
President Nelson had previously warned that personal revelation would be essential to navigate the end times. No Church leader has instructed us to follow them blindly; instead, they provided us with the "Come Follow Me" manual, where "Me" refers to the Savior, not other men.
I believe this approach is intentional. While some who received the jab appear fine, others have experienced severe adverse effects, including death within minutes or days.
Given the adverse effects, the jab should have been withdrawn, but it was not. A careful reading of Section 89 of the Doctrine and Covenants might provide insights into the current situation.
President Nelson advised taking vitamins during a General Conference prior to COVID. When I heard this, I felt a strong impression from the Spirit, and I knew that something significant was coming and that this counsel was meant to be followed.
President Nelson has repeatedly emphasized the importance of seeking personal revelation. Why? This is a question each of us should take to the Lord and ask Him directly.
      Keep the faith, Brother!

What does President Nelson exactly mean? Was the father not giving his baby a priesthood blessing at all, instead, offering a beautiful prayer in a manner he would do his daily prayers, so that he missed the opportunity to bless his baby with the priesthood power and authority ? Or was he giving the baby a priesthood blessing by laying his hand on the baby’s head, yet saying his own words (prayer), according to his own desire or will, not the inspired words of the Holy Ghost, according to God’s will, so he didn’t understand the difference between a (priesthood) prayer and a priesthood blessing? I think President Nelson is referring to the latter. But I want to make sure that I understand him correctly. Can anyone clarify this? Thanks !

    • @TheWordsofChrist
      @TheWordsofChrist  28 วันที่ผ่านมา

It’s important to understand the distinction between a priesthood blessing and a prayer, especially when it comes to blessing a child.
When President Nelson spoke about this, he likely was emphasizing the difference between a prayer offered in faith and a priesthood blessing that is given by one holding the priesthood authority of God. Let me explain using scripture and teachings.
A priesthood blessing is given by someone who holds the priesthood and is acting in their capacity as a priesthood holder. The blessing is pronounced by the laying on of hands, and the words spoken are intended to be inspired by the Holy Ghost. The person giving the blessing should seek to be a conduit for God’s will, rather than simply offering a prayer or expressing personal desires. Doctrine and Covenants 42:44 teaches, "And if he die, he shall die unto me, and if he live, he shall live unto me; thou shalt live together in love, insomuch that thou shalt weep for the loss of them that die, and more especially for those that have not hope of a glorious resurrection." This verse highlights the importance of seeking God’s will in all things, which is central to giving a priesthood blessing.
On the other hand, a prayer is a personal communication with God. It can be spoken by anyone, priesthood holder or not, and it does not require the laying on of hands. Prayers are powerful and essential, but they are not the same as a priesthood blessing. Alma 37:37 advises us to "counsel with the Lord in all thy doings, and he will direct thee for good," indicating that prayers are a way to seek divine guidance and comfort.
President Nelson likely intended to emphasize that when a father (or any priesthood holder) gives a blessing, it should be done with the understanding that they are acting as an instrument in the Lord’s hands. The words spoken in a priesthood blessing should be guided by the Holy Ghost and reflect God’s will for the person being blessed.
If a priesthood holder gives a blessing but approaches it as a regular prayer, they may not fully utilize the power and authority of the priesthood. In doing so, they might miss the opportunity to bless their child with the full spiritual power and direction that a priesthood blessing can provide.
President Nelson’s counsel encourages us to remember the sacred nature of priesthood blessings and to always seek the guidance of the Holy Ghost when administering them.
I hope this helps clarify your understanding! If you have further questions, feel free to ask.
Make sure to watch this other video-I think you’ll find it just as meaningful!

@@TheWordsofChrist Thank you for taking time to get back with me! That means my likely understanding and your likely understanding of President Nelson’s intent are the same. Any priesthood blessing should be always God’s will through human instrument as conduit, though in reality sometimes human thoughts are added for whatever reasons, for example, priesthood holder’s faith and righteousness and sensitivity to influence of the Holy Ghost etc. Since you said that if I have further questions, feel free to ask. Not a further question but another question. May I ask how do you think about non-members taking sacrament?

    • @TheWordsofChrist

@@invisimistone7326 In Doctrine and Covenants 27:2, the Lord explains, "For, behold, I say unto you, that it mattereth not what ye shall eat or what ye shall drink when ye partake of the sacrament, if it so be that ye do it with an eye single to my glory-remembering unto the Father my body which was laid down for you, and my blood which was shed for the remission of your sins." This scripture underscores the sacredness of the sacrament and the need to partake of it with pure intent and reverence, focusing on Christ's Atonement.
Doctrine and Covenants 20:68 states that those who are members of the Church should "The elders or priests are to have a sufficient time to expound all things concerning the church of Christ to their understanding, previous to their partaking of the sacrament and being confirmed by the laying on of the hands of the elders" This suggests that baptized members who are striving to live according to the commandments should participate in the sacrament.
Doctrine and Covenants 46:5 also speaks to this topic, stating that "Ye are also commanded not to cast any one who belongeth to the church out of your sacrament meetings; nevertheless, if any have trespassed, let him not partake until he makes reconciliation. And again I say unto you, ye shall not cast any out of your sacrament meetings who are earnestly seeking the kingdom-I speak this concerning those who are not of the church." This verse highlights that those who partake should do so with a righteous spirit and a willingness to keep the covenants associated with the ordinance.
Furthermore, 3 Nephi 18:28-29 in the Book of Mormon provides guidance on who should partake of the sacrament: "And now behold, this is the commandment which I give unto you, that ye shall not suffer any one knowingly to partake of my flesh and blood unworthily, when ye shall minister it; For whoso eateth and drinketh my flesh and blood unworthily eateth and drinketh damnation to his soul." This verse highlights the importance of worthiness in partaking of the sacrament and the need for self-reflection before participating in this sacred ordinance.
The scripture is clear on this topic, and since the leadership isn't following the scriptural guidance, they must have received direct approval from the Lord to make this type of change regarding who can participate in an ordinance of the sacrament. Additionally, there is other scripture in the Book of Mormon related to this topic that is 100% relevant and explains what would happen if this ordinance were altered without the Lord's consent, and it' not good.
I'm not passing judgment on this, as I'm not called to receive revelation for the Church. The men who are called to do so have all clearly agreed with this significant alteration in the administration of the Sacrament. It is the responsibility of those who hold the keys of the Priesthood, as this is how the Lord has organized His Church.
Thank goodness for continuing revelation! :)

It reflects our willingness to place the Lord's will above our own and demonstrates our commitment to follow Jesus Christ. As we sacrifice our time, talents, and even our personal desires for the sake of God's work, we draw closer to Him, strengthen our faith, and align our lives with His divine purpose. The Savior Himself set the ultimate example of sacrifice, giving His life for our salvation, and He invites us to follow in His footsteps by offering our own sacrifices, big and small, as an expression of our love and devotion to Him.
As President Gordon B. Hinckley once taught: "Without sacrifice, there is no true worship of God. I become more and more convinced of that every day. There is no true worship without sacrifice. Sacrifice is the very essence of religion, the very meaning of the atonement."
Additionally, the Word of Wisdom is a health code revealed by the Lord to Joseph Smith, the first prophet of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in 1833. It outlines principles for physical and spiritual well-being, encouraging the consumption of wholesome foods like fruits, vegetables, and grains, while advising against harmful substances such as tobacco, alcohol, coffee, tea, and illicit drugs. Adherence to the Word of Wisdom is seen as a way to honor the body as a temple of God, promoting health, clarity of mind, and spiritual strength.
I will also mention that, sadly, after the events of the past couple of years, it appears that very few in the Church have understood and heeded the warnings found within Section 89 of the Doctrine and Covenants.
At the heart of the matter, it’s this statement from Joseph Smith that instantly came to mind when I read your question.
“Let us here observe, that a religion that does not require the sacrifice of all things, never has power sufficient to produce the faith necessary unto life and salvation.” - Joseph Smith
