  • We know how much you guys love the Jim Halpert looks, so have no fear, they're still here! Your favorite reactor and walking film textbook are back, and diving back into the world of Westeros. Admittedly, we are both walking into this series with caution, as like many of you, I was burned (hehe, burned) pretty badly by the final season of Game of Thrones, and to be honest, I don't think I'll ever get over it. Daenerys Targaryen is my queen, and y'all can fight me. Both Sam and I were always die-hard Targaryen fans, so if there was ever anything that could get us back into this world, it's the Dragon Fam. Dracarys Motherf*ckers!

    Queen Aemma Arryn is actually half Targaryen herself that's why she has silver hair. Her mother was Princess Daella Targaryen and she's also a granddaughter of King Jaehaerys at the intro.

    The prohecy isn't really Game of Thrones reference. It's a Song of Ice and Fire refence. It was confirmation of a theory books fans have had for years. Game of Thrones botching the execution of the prophecy doesn't mean you shelve that part of the story in the prequels.

    • @cmdrbrantford888

      GRRM apparently told the show's producers about Aegon's dream/prophecy, and personally approved the dialogue that the King had with his daughter about this event. THat would indicate its canon, even if it wasnt written down yet... it also indicated that he didnt agree with the end of Season 8 either

      @@theshamelist I keep addressing the uniform opinion that D&D were the culprits. I believe the ending was GRRM’s. But in terms of prophecy while Targaryeans did not occupy the Iron Throne in season eight, two Targaryeans, either or both fitting the prophecy, did unite Westeros and led the fight against Darkness. And the Catspaw dagger found its way into Darkness saving humanity. The prophecy did not say who would wield the weapon in every version. The assassination of Danni by Jon might have been unpopular, it was with me, it did not violate prophecy.

    Nice reaction guys and to answer your question: no, the King and Alicent Hightower did not sleep together. it's actually a sweet scene although the motive behind it is Machiavellian on the part of Otto. Trying to use them both when they're vulnerable. Btw: the model the King is working on is of Old Valyria not Dragonstone.

    What Otto did here was the purest form of meritocracy in an medieval autocracy. Every father in his position should aspire to do it. All noble marriages were arranged. It's not like his daughter had any other choice, so why not arrange for the best possible suitor.

    Daemon Targaryen is my all time favourite character from A song of Ice and Fire especially his Dragon Caraxes the Blood wyrm.
    Also don't be too surprised that otto hightower twisted Daemon words when he toasted his deceased nephew so the king can banished his brother back to Vale and away from Kings landing, otto is already starting to make mores to get his house and name into a higher position in the Targaryen Dynasty the first is pawning his daughter to the king while he's venerable.
    Plus clearly see even with all the 'activities' going on around him Daemon was not in the mood he said it himself " we all mourn in our own way."

    The qualification Daemon states by saying being Viserys brother should have made him Hand of the King is about loyalty. Daemon confirms this by calling out Otto Hightower and the rest of the schemers on the Small Council, and that had he been Hand he would have protected Viserys from their manipulation. Instead Viserys constantly pushed Daemon aside at the insistence of Otto and his other counselors. Daemon saying being his brother and sharing blood should have made him Viserys number 2 was a statement about loyalty being the most important quality for a Hand.

    The throne differences was simply budget reasons, from what I've heard... they had more of a budget and so they were able to make this throne bigger and put the more decorative swords around it. They couldn't do that in game of thrones cause they didn't have the budget, unfortunately. So this attempt at the throne was meant to be slightly more book accurate even though it's extremely impossible to make it exactly book accurate, of course, but this was their attempt at being more book accurate than game of thrones was.

    I believe that the reason they threw in the prophecy thing at the end is because it will tie into the “Snow” series, when it’s released. Behind the scenes when they started writing the HOTG tv version of the story, they all ready had an outline for the John Snow series. Whether GRRM wants to admit it or not, GOT was an absolute train wreck at the end, which he couldn’t stop once it was in motion. If Im right, and we find out they were able to keep it hush hush, for the last 3 years, it could be what we’ve all been asking for….an ending that washes away the stink of season 8 and a story that makes sense.

    • @ben1ben2ben1
      @ben1ben2ben1 ปีที่แล้ว

      GRRM started throwing shade at the show after season 4. It wasn't just season 8 that sucked. 6 was basically the shows sell out season and 7 was terrible. Even 5 started showing the cracks. Snow will probably suck if it does get green lit because they have no source material to follow and Jon was a pretty terrible one dimensional character after season 4

    HotD isn't a prequel to D&D's GoT. After the success of the Red Wedding D&D thought they could write a better story. But Ryan Condall is loyal to George R.R. Martin's lore. That's why the Iron Throne is so different. It's also why they're not dumbing down the magical aspect. In time, they'll remake GoT with the real ending. I'm sure of it.
    But for now we're getting this, a show about Nymeria, a show about Old Valyria, the sea voyages of Corlys Velaryon, Dunk & Egg and an animated show that takes place in Yi Ti. The first two were hinted at in this episode (the model Viserys is working on is of a Valyrian city).

      I'd settle for the Kit Harington/Jon Snow series retconning the last two seasons. I'd genuinely be fine if in the first five minutes, he wakes up at Winterfell and says "wow, what a bad dream" and the whole series is just a ploy to redo the final seasons 😂 But in all seriousness, I'm really glad they're making this stand apart from GoT. The more I hear about it, the more faith I have in it, because I was very nervous going into this. Thank you for sharing your thoughts, and I hope you stick with us through the season! ❤️Jacqui

    Personally I think at some point in time from HOTD and GOT someone realized the damn chair was killing the royal family lol. Hence the smaller size and less swords. It could be the chair itself was reduced or the chair in GOT is a different chair altogether hence why it didn't fit the description.

    I think that most people I have heard discuss the show's reference of the "Fire and Ice" prophecy as being not that important might not know about the lore of the show (but I could be wrong ) and forgive me if I do not get this completely right.
    From what I understand the only reason that the Targeyrion (I know...) is alive is because they headed the warnings from a prophecy which allowed their family to live while the rest of the Vilaryian civilization perished.
    So it makes since to me why the king preaches this so heavily to his daughter.
    Again, sorry for all the spelling mistakes.

    The king didn't have a choice in saving his wife. His wife was going to die anyway. The maester said any attempt to try to turn the baby failed and they had given her the max amount of milk of the poppy already that was still save for the baby. The choice was clear: try to save the child or they both die. He tried to save his child at least and he clearly was completely broken by the fact his wife died.

    • @gailf1617
      @gailf1617 ปีที่แล้ว

      However, Viserys could have given Aemma the choice of whether to die painlessly with an overdose of milk of the poppy (not waking up) and minimal to zero chance of the baby surviving, or to have herself cut open to try to save the baby. He didn't do that - I think he couldn't bear to tell her she was going to die, much less discuss how, and there wasn't enough time for him to get up the nerve to do so, so Viserys just chose for her her, sadly.

    • @rutgerdejong1660
      @rutgerdejong1660 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gailf1617 yes but we are talking about medieval times here. In these times situations like these were handled way different and also the lives or freedom of choice for women was way different and less important. Especially when the baby in question is a possible male heir to the throne that could have a chance to live. Sad as it is, it's probably how situations like these were handled with in medieval times.

    Ok. I am more than a month late but
    Bronn was not the first person to kill a dragon. It was Dorne. Damn this family as a whole and its history is so underrated. This family's book plot is much more interesting and there are more characters and their relevance is big.
    Dorne is the only realm that was never conquered by the Targaryens. Even by the time of the Dance of the Dragons (the event that House of the Dragon tells) they were still "Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken". They remained free for over 130 years and they joined by marriage at their terms and when they wanted. Because it was not by force, the Iron Throne has no Dornish swords melt. They kept their royal title of Prince and Princess and they have some advantages such as like tax administration.
    Yes, I say Prince or Princess because in the series they don't show us that Dorne is the only realm of the 7 kingdoms where the firstborn Martell child inherits the throne, regarless of gender. That was established by princess Nymeria of Ny Sar. When she died, her firstborn child became the ruler, and it was her daughter. Also, the ruler that didn't let Aegon I, Visenya , and Rhaenys Targaryen conquer Dorne was Princess Meriah Martell.
    There were troubles and even wars between the Crown and Dorne. Some decades later after the Dance of Dragons, another Targaryen tried to conquer Dorne. And he did. For a few months (death by scorpions). There is a say that is "Dornish courage" due to the fact that many think Dorne remained independent but that its civilians played dirty (with traps, tricks, hiding...). But. I mean. Even if they "played dirty", they were the only ones who remained independent 😂. And in what war isn't there any treachery or "dirty playing"?
    House Martell, alongside House Targaryen, is my favourite house. It's a shame how they portrayed the family (except Oberyn) in the show.

    I am cautiously optimistic as well. I didn't hate the end of 'GoT'. It was...way too rushed. So, yeah...it was disappointing. However, all anyone needs to do is read 'Fire & Blood' or 'The World of Ice and Fire ' to know the basic thrust of where 'The House of the Dragon' will go. The show will flesh it out more dramatically as both reads like histories. So...they have an outline of the story already, which is how 'GoT' started so strong.
    I always give a show about three to five episodes to really hook me. Some take longer than others. 'GoT' got me only in the last 10 minutes of the first episode, I almost gave it up. This one hasn't hooked me, yet. The next couple of episodes will tell...

What do you think the wound on the king's back was? is it dragon scale? that was my first thought. if it starts crusting over we'll know. so gross. speaking of gross, was it me or was the uncle Daemon flirty with his niece and vice versa? forgot to add, I do not think the teenager hightower girl slept with the king. he was looking at here all confused, not lustfully.
