Honestly for this one you might want a family tree to update more than a graveyard, or both
A family tree would be... complicated, for the targaryens of course.
@@Sacressane when family tree is a family circle
@@LSG101097 Id say more of a maze then a circle
@@Sacressane I like to call them a Family Tumbleweed LOL
@@LSG101097 I always say that their family tree is a wreath. 😜
Your observation that things in HOTD look better than they do in GOT is spot on. This was a time of peace and prosperity in the Seven Kingdoms -- GOT was a time of war and poverty.
Well also in GOT things were most prosperous during the first season and that’s also when they had the lowest budget, but the first season of HotD has a larger budget
Yeah, it's mostly the budget and art direction. Robert's tournament looked like it had a budget of 10 dollars.
@@TAOSCIENCE And the royal hunt in ep3. Much better than that in GoT.
Um yeah it’s years later this came out and they had a massive budget. Y’all say anything at this point
Well, that usually happens with the productions after the original one, they have more budget due to the successful of the main series/movies, even for GOT to have started with a low budget the quality was outstanding since season 1
Arya named her dire wolf after the same Nymeria mentioned in this episode.
🤦♂️
Fun fact that quite a few rulers died from cuts from the Iron Throne and it was considered a marker that someone was not worthy of the throne
Yep, the Iron Throne was made like this on purpose so that the king should not feel too comfortable on it, he should be alert.
Gotta lean a bit forward and to the right when sitting on it, both literally and metaphorically, I think.
that was just a superstition. because even the conquer was cut.
One thing to know about Daemon - he loves his family. His brother, his cousins, his niece.
Literally
@@MystixGaming03 Is there any way to take thar other than literally?
Daemon is played by Matt Smith, one of the best actors to fill in the shoes of Doctor Who.
He also played Prince Phillip in The Crown.
Matt Smith has a rare genetic condition that's left him almost totally deaf and mostly blind but you'd never know seeing his acting. He's great!
@@MickeyP1230 Where'd you find that information? Looked it up and couldn't find anything cuz Matt Smith is such a common name lol
@@uhhh4049 Just on Google. It's a genetic condition called Usher Syndrome.
Sooo Bridget thinking the actor who plays Daemon is the weird guy from Saltburn,… but the weird guy from Saltburn is actually the same actor as Aemond (who has not been introduced yet!!!) is ahhh-mazing!! Especially with the parallels between Daemon and Aemond!! That made me so happy!
AemonD, Daemon, Rhaenys, Rhaenyra, Rhaena.... GRRM is a sadist!
You won't really need a map in season 1 which is restricted to the areas around King's Landing, Dragon stone. But I much recommend doing a family tree.
Using the map for the step stones, driftmark, the hunting grounds and Dragonstone may be good just to orient where everyone is.
And pentos too.
And the reach/Storms End
Definitely will need one for season 2 they start to stretch out farther
yeah sure they go to some more places, but it's not like there are so many different plot threads throughout the whole map that the locations are complex like in GoT. Here the complex part is the family.
@@lrichardson5057
Nobody ever listens to what the Maestor says in this episode. It was NOT save the child or the mother. It was save the child or lose both. The mother was dying no matter what.
i swear.... it was crystal clear to me too !
it makes me cringe in rage every time someone misses that😭if viserys had a choice he definitely would have chose aemma.🥹
Also that they said they had given her all the milk and poppy they could and any more could hurt the baby. There was no other way to help the pain. I’m only mad that she didn’t get a choice.
It was to possibly save the baby or let his wife die in peace. The Maesters straight up suck. And you can totally give a woman aneasthetic during a c-section. It happens all the time. No problem with the baby either. Not these guys however.
While I agree I think most ppls anger comes from the fact that nobody told Aemma anything…
Daemon is actually one of the most interesting, well written, conflicting and complex characters of this show.
You will love him, hate him, fear him.
Quite the performance from Matt Smith through and through.
"Where are the guards??" "I think they are the guards..." had me rolling😂
lmao 5:35
Queen Aemma: ****
Bridgette: _is that a painting of SEX?_ 😏
Cody: _wHat dO dRaGonS smELL liKe?_ 🤔
It's the little things that make the GOT/HotD writing so good. Those little statements pull you into the world and make it real. What do dragons smell like?
I have seen comments recommending you a Family Tree along with the map. Something to have in consideration should be to also add the dragons that belong to the family member in the tree as well, so you remember the name of each dragon since they are VERY important for this series.
21:16 Bridget's "im waiting! 🐉" dragon voice was hilarious 😂😂
Thank you for this!! I clicked on it three times 😆Her dragon voice was hilarious and Perfect!!!
Something I love about this episode is Rhaenys’ comment about the 70 years of peace while someone is getting beat to death while everyone’s watching. Barely anyone alive has seen real conflict. Viserys’ grandfather ruled over the longest period of peace in the Targaryen rule. It’s showing how these people are starved for violence, and they have no conception for what it actually looks like. So they take what they get on the tourney field.
Just a fact, the golden cloaks that we see in GOT, are the same ones we see here, Deamon as commander gave them identity as golden cloaks for the first time and the importance that they later had in kings landing, that is why they are so loyal to him.
I am telling you right now, subtitles will save your life during this show.
I really like your balance between chatting and reacting actually. It’s just right.
I love their humor and how insync and sincere they are.
OMG! Did not expect this to be coming out this soon! Love you guys!
HBO actually hired linguists to create a language for High Valyrian and Dothraki for the original show. So when you see characters speaking those languages they’re not just babbling gibberish. They’re speaking nouns, verbs, and adjectives that linguists came up with for these fictional languages. Tolkien did the same in lord of the rings- he invented his own Elvish language
And from what I've heard, the way it's spoken in this show is supposed to be "true Valyrian". Since Dany grew up in the Free Cities of Essos, and spoke Valyian with a Tyroshi accent!
Her uncle is Matt Smith, who was in Doctor Who, but the guy from Saltburn who looked like Pugg is in this! Later in the season though.
See. Their was a Godswood/Weirwood Tree at the palace at Kings Landing. Some speculate that when Sansa is kneeling outside praying when Margaery walks up to her is where the tree once stood (since the Starks worship the old God's. Idk if it's fact, but it makes sense.
Quick history lessons:
Game of thrones was inspired by the medieval civil war “The war of the roses”
House of the dragon is inspired by the medieval civil war “The anarchy”
But also don’t look up the anarchy if you don’t want spoilers, the outcome is pretty one-to-one
@@sarahchicago oh I’m a history nerd I’ve already been in tune with that lol
THE SWORD 🗡️ IS DARK SISTER
That Sword is called Blackfyre
Daemon's sword is Dark Sister (Visenya's sword during Aegon's Conquest), Viserys' sword is Blackfyre (Aegon's sword)
Great to see you jump straight into this One of the things that HoTD sets up straight away is how amazing it is that Dany controlled three dragons by herself. The Targaryens living in this time would be astounded by her.
She didn't need a saddle, either, rode that dragon bareback with no training.
Bridgette - The choice was save one OR lose them BOTH.
"CUT HER OPEN OR SOMETHING!" well.... what do i even say 😭😭
Also Viserys wasnt choosing between aemma or the child. His choices were save the child or do nothing. Aemma was dead no matter what
Exactly, I have no clue how so many people miss that. It’s literally stated that he either could save the child, or let both of them die. They say it twice in the episode, It doesn’t make what Viserys did any better but it’s not like he could’ve saved Aemma even if he wanted
This part. I wish reactors would understand that. It isn't that hard to catch. Try to save one (the baby) or lose them both.
@@joshhutton9534 I didn't realize that at all either. I thought saving his wife was an option.
@@bobdonda they couldn't get the baby out. It was breach meaning it was sideways and wouldn't be able to get it naturally. Back in that time setting, it was a death sentence for both baby and mother.
@@owenbridgers They should have drugged her up, at least, whatever the risk to the foetus. And it wasn't impossible even way back when to deliver a breech baby. Though that WAS a big baby.
really loved seeing the world changes from GOT to HOTD cause not only is it a time of peace instead of war but seeing the Targaryens at the height of their power and while Daenerys gained power over the course of the show, her time is technically the Targaryens at their weakest and most vulnerable. Love to see it
This is why I can't watch this series, it's a very bad thing that it takes place in a time of peace, prosperity and calm. GOT is war, uncertainty, twists and turns, emotions in all directions etc. in short, this spinn-off will never be up to par
Yes!!!! You finally made it to HotD! I have thoroughly enjoyed your reactions. The one thing I will say to keep in mind about Daemon is that he is the blood of the dragon, so he is chaotic by nature. Although he is a wild card, he LOVES his family. So keep that in mind. Keep up the amazing reactions!
“Hot D “ that cracks me up every time!
I found your channel about a month ago and i cant keep but binge watching all your reacts!!! Soooo happy you made HOTD too omg
Daemon was actually really sad in that queens funeral, she was his cousin... In the series it doesn't seem like much, but in the books Daemon truly loves his family... So it was not fake tears, he was genuinely sad, but I think he was kinda happy about the baby dieing cuz he wants to be the heir...
It's not the guy from _Saltburn,_ but that guy will be on here this season in some capacity.
8:49 Don't forget what Danaerys's stillborn child looked like 🐉👀 According to Mirri Maz Duur, Rhaego was hideously deformed, blind, covered in dragon-like scales with a stubby tail, and small leather wings like a bat.
I think people take that comment like she was trying to insult her and not literal, I think most people completely missed that Dany had an actual half-dragon baby and it wasn't an exaggeration by Mirri Maz Duur.
"It is so obvious that is will be a contensious between Rhaenyra and her oncle"

I believe viscerys only wanted Rhaeneyra to be heir because she reminded him of his wife..... Because daemon was far more potential and practical heir as of now.

I'm gonna tell you off the bat: the people who read these books LOVE to spoil the plot of this show. Make sure you have a good moderator! I had major plot points spoiled, and I hope you won't suffer the same. This show is vastly superior to GoT!
I highly reccomend to watch these with subtitles if you're not already. It will help..alot. Especially when some coversations are going on, it helps so you don't misinterpret some things.
Daemon is the best character in this series. Hes not a black and white character, he's kind of grey
18:39 the queen would have died anyway. Either both died or they tried to save the baby, causing her a lot of pain.
I don’t understand why everyone misses that. The baby is stuck, the mom was dying irregardless bc the babe wouldn’t come out. This was the only way to literally get the baby out of her. Or they both would have died and died quickly. It’s the same issue today, women can’t just keep a baby inside of them forever. Lol
She still had to suffer a horrible death; not if they gave her a lot of milk of the poppy and let them both die with dignity, instead of trying to save a child that has a low chance of survival
@@mateoagudelocanaveral9780exactly, its a fucked situation all around
i don't hear people disputing that. the situation is the king gave the order to gut and disembowel his wife to possibly save his highly desired son. the king wasn't doing anything out of love. he's in a tough political situation and has pinned all his hopes on an unborn kid instead of stepping up and being a king. spoiler: he's weak throughout the entire series.

The theme song for house targaryan gives me chills everytime! Both beautiful and powerful! I love the theme for house stark as well but it always makes me tear up because while its so pretty its sort of sad sounding in a way.

Glad u catch that daemon doesnt really celebrating when he named Baelon "the heir for a day". Because the scene was cut for that purpose, for use to really interpret the meaning of Daemon word. Me, myself, believe that he did grieve Aemma and baby Baelon, and he did name him Heir For a Day, but not to mock Baelon or Viserys. Otto twist the story for his own benefit, and that is to send Daemon away from the throne.
Daemon love his family, he also love his Targaryen name, and he loves the throne. But he did said in the beginning that he find the council kind of boring(?). I think he really does want to be in Viserys side, to remind him everyday that he is a Targaryen. And to show everyone what is Targaryen power so they can't be use. He just show it poorly, so Otto can easily twist Daemon's act and story.
I agree...Viserys was right when he said Daemon didn't want the throne, he just wanted to support his brother and the Targaryen family. He would have accepted being king if it came to that but that wasn't ultimately what he cared about. Otto, on the other hand...as soon as Aemma died, those wheels started turning
Baelon is the name of Daemons and Viserys father there is no world that Daemons is celebrating the death of a baby named after their father Baelon.
Corlys Velaryon (the black guy at the counsel and husband of the king`s cousin) is also from Valerya just like the Targaryens. The Targaryens and the Velaryons are the only Dragon Master`s families to escape the destruction of Valerya, the Valeryons are the richest family in the realm and own a large number of dragons.
They are not Dragon Masters by themselves. All their dragons come through marriage and blood mixing with Targaryens.
3 - Celtigars
Velaryons not dragon riders unless they have children with a Targaryen…they never was dragon lords besides that
The Queen was dieing either way there was no saving her
Yep, it was try to save the child or lose them both.

@lyricmezzosoprano5357 long story short I burn through anesthesia quickly which we didn't know til, well this one. Baby was dying so couldn't wait. But they saved her & I get a heck of a birth story w/a side of PTSD prior to my 2nd baby (which went a LOT better).
@@Chrysalis-uu5ecdefinitely a fantastic horror story. Prime example of how amazingly strong women can be when we need to. I hope you always feel like nothing can stop you, because you fkn deserve it after that.
Over the centuries, House Targaryen has produced both great men and monsters. Prince Daemon was both. In his day there was not a man so admired, so beloved, and so reviled in all Westeros. He was made of light and darkness in equal parts. To some he was a hero, to others the blackest of villains.
Zaldrīzes buzdari iksos daor.
(A dragon is not a slave. )
And with the adage that when a Targaryen is born, the gods flip a coin. Clearly, Daemon's landed on its edge!
I do like how this prophecy changes the history of Westeros. Not only did Aegon see the White Walkers coming, but so did many of the Targaryan kings, which means that many of the kings who were considered "mad" were actually trying to figure out how to bring the prophecy to a head where a Targaryan is on the throne and the realm fights against the white walkers. Also Viserys saying that a Targaryan needs to be on the throne makes me think that Cersei was a Targaryan. She did like incest and burning people up.
Aerys took liberties with Tywins wife.
On the throne - technically Dany had declared herself queen in dragonstone before she took on the white walkers
@@stacywhisenant6242and had Tyrion
@@Socialmediasucks963 Tywin was named Hand of the King in 262 and married Joanna in 263. The twins were born in 266. Tywin didn’t become lord of Casterly Rock until 267. While the twins were apparently born at Casterly Rock, it’s not out of the question that they might have been conceived in the capital, if Joanna lived there with Tywin in his early days as Hand or visited him frequently. But when Tyrion was born, Joanna had been staying at Casterly Rock while Tywin served in King’s Landing and occasionally came home. Meaning: It’s likelier that Aerys would have had more access to Joanna earlier in her marriage than later in her marriage, which would line up with the twins but not with Tyrion.
@Socialmediasucks963 tyrion doesn't work since Mrs lannister was in castlery Rock then. Also it's obvious that tywin and tyrion are truly father and son as much as they hate each other.
By contrast aerys was at the bedding ceremony where cersei and Jaime were conceived.

i honestly like hotd a lot more than game of thrones so im excited for this journey, and dont worry bridgette i was also super mad about queen aemma! i cried watching the first ep bcs i felt so bad for women who gave birth in these medieval time periods having absolutely no autonomy over their own body.
The writers of GOT tried to avoid the similar name by changing several: Asha to Yara, Robert to Robin, etc. But there are so many dynastic names in HOTD that they couldn’t do that.

sadly the queen was beyond saving it’s either let both of them die or try and save the baby

Hey Bridgette, You Got That One Wrong Actually!
Viserys had to choose between saving the child or leaving it upto fate (in which, both of 'em would have passed most likely) not between Queen and the Child. A lot of reactors i've seen don't get that conversation between him and Mellos but yeah, Viserys had no other option. It was as Mellos said "Save One, Or Lose them Both".
Omg!! I've been waiting for you guys to react to this! Big fan all the way in Nairobi, Kenya 🇰🇪

Viserys is such a good character and thats the same actor from the Cornetto Trilogy
That's the fun of Daemon. As much as he's a schemer and a sonofabitch who will do anything to get ahead, he also loves his brother and would never do anything purposefully to hurt him.
Oh man there are so many great characters in this
Viserys IS a good guy, and thats exactly why he’s a weak king
Oh shit you’re right 😭😂
Cody ... Congrats 👏🎉🎉 you where paying attention ... The dialogue with Maester Merlos he said " save one ... Or to loose them both " ... So his wife was going to die no matter what he choose .. alot of people miss that dialogue and get it wrong .. but Cody you got it 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Wild that you mentioned the weird guy from Saltburn… He is in this series… remember this when you meet Adult Aemond.
lol I’m watching these out of order but I love how many times you say “rough day” during your reactions. Like “YEAH!”
I really don't like when people start saying they hate Viserys for what he did here. Consider, what were his options?
The birth is obviously a disaster. If the child does not come out, both he and the mother are dead. There is no ambiguity in this scenario. Without modern medicine both are doomed. His choice is not even between the mother and the child. It's between the child and two dead bodies.
As for letting Aemma decide, the woman is in agony, she is drugged as much as possible without further risk of killing the child as Mellos said, she is essentially doomed in either case, and the life of a child is at stake. And not only a child, but a royal heir. A royal heir at the time of political uncertainty. Even disregarding child's life itself, this decision is potentially critical for a whole realm.
And finally, we clearly see that is was in no way a simple choice for Viserys. He clearly loves his wife immensely, this decision tore him apart, and the outcome visibly broke him.

In the books, Daenerys Targaryen already fulfilled the prophecy about the Prince That Was Promised long before readers even knew of it's existence. During that scene of "the song of ice and fire" Daenerys' theme, Breaker of Chains was playing. I think this was tied more into the book side of things rather than just the show.
Just a helpful suggestion for keeping track of this show: There's an illustrated coffee table book called The World of Ice and Fire. It's loaded with family trees and histories based on Fire and Blood. It's a nice tool to have at your behest.
Oh hell yeah! Perfect treat before work, thanks guys
Although there are many people in comment section said Aemma the queen was dying either way no matter what, I think at least they or Viserys the king should have told her what they were gonna do to her. She has the right to know what they were gonna do with her body! The show emphasize multiple times that for women the childbed is their battlefield. I hope you prepare for yourself because this season has many birth scenes. And each of them are quite different and interesting.
Yes, i don't think anyone is disputing that. Everyone is just irritated, maybe wrongly, that most reactors just completely misunderstand the scene and choices.

I'm really looking back to going back and watching this with you, some of the acting in this show was incredible...Paddy considine was amazing...and so was the show
I just started the book The World of Ice and Fire last night. I knew Nymeria was bad ass but listening about her last night really made me understand why Arya looked up to her and why she named her wolf Nymeria.
FYI, season 2 comes out this July or August
I like how they keep going back in forth with the jousting and child birth. The camera pans to a birds eye view, showing the arena shaped like a beaver/muff cabbage/box or whatever they call it nowadays. Implying child birth was the real battle. In fact, the jousting scenes were easier to watch.
I'm beyond stressed because of university and this literally made me cry from joy, I love hotd and I love you guys this is going to be awesome!!
Why do so many people miss thst is was try and save the baby or lose them both. Its a big thing to miss because Ive seen other reactors have this animosity towards Viserys that changes the way you see so many things in the show because they think he chose one over the other and its frustrating
You two are so fantastic!!
Don't worry. The guy from Saltburn will show up eventually. I will be commenting ASK HIM A SUM!!!! in comments when he shows up. He won't be recognizable. Matt Smith is the 11th Doctor and the villain in everything else (I would recommend Last Night in Soho, but he also has a lot of fun in Morbius).
Something that isn't really expressed enough in GoT (aside from the mountain) is how the Kingsguard are chosen. They are (in most cases) the best fighters in Westeros. Another is armor types which can range to naked, cloth, leather, mail, and plate. Platemail is the best armor around and not many knights use it, but all 7 of the Kingsguard do. 1 skilled plate wearing knight can take on quite of a few foes that aren't wearing it, and against naked or clothed people they were essentially by todays standards Battle Tanks.
I'm really perplexed why we are mad at the king. There was no saving the queen. He made a choice between trying to save his child or both of them die in childbirth. He couldn't have forseen the baby was going to die anyways. Was it a little fucked that they didnt give her the choice? Yes, but if she knew she was dying either way, she surely would have told them to try to save the baby. They didn't have time to have a calm discussion and weigh options. The baby was dying. They had to get him out immediately. I felt so sad for him having to not only make that choice, but to also lose them both anyways.
I think she just wanted someone to be mad at in the moment lol
Daemon's dragon, Caraxes the Bloodwyrm, is mutated. He's longer and more snake-like than other dragons. His voice is unique too, more of a high-pitched screech than a roar. He also has the temperament like that of his rider, violent and volatile.
How is he an asshole? His wife was dead either way.
Regardless of what type of man he was, daemon was loyal to his brother
You'll need a family tree more than the graveyard I think 😭😭😭😭
Viserys was subconsciously training Rhaenyra most of her life, take her to every official function and inventing Take Your Daughter To Work Day, instead of consigning her to sewing, singing, dancing, etc.
Arya named her wolf after the warrior princess that Rhaenyra and Alicent were reading about in that book. The author George Martin liked to use the same family name repeatedly, especially for successive kings, because he was wanting to emulate real world history. The majority of English kings were named Henry, Edward or George, with a few Richard, James and Charles thrown in. Famously there was only one King John because he was considered such a bad king that nobody wanted to reuse the name. I explain all that because this King Viserys is the first of his name. But if Danearys’ brother had ever become king he would have been the third King Viserys. It makes keeping characters in this universe a bit more difficult, but it is historically accurate.
T0 think that when Matt Smith was cast as Daemon, people were annoyed: 'That nice guy who plays the Doctor can't possibly do a convincing violent Targaryen.'
I'd seen him on stage as a very different character from the Doctor, and knew he'd be fantastic.
The contrast between a nation at peace and prosperous and one still recovering from devastating war and ruled over by a corrupted king, is all summed up at the Heir's Tourney. Compare this amazing stadium - did our world ever hold anything like that? - to the 'Renaissance Fair' in GOT. How the mighty had fallen in those 188 years (assuming Dany is 16). There's another stark contrast coming along,
My thoughts about the dragons looking skinnier and sleeker is - well, easier to animate, I assume. But I remember what Magister Illyrio said when he presented the three eggs to Dany: "The ages have turned hem to stone. But they will always be beautiful." The dragons of HotD are bred and cultivated creatures; Dany's dragons were prehistoric. It's like a direwolf against a chihuahua, a sabre-toothed tiger against a Persian Blue.
I didn't think this would happen yet, a great surprise for a Friday afternoon!
There's a theory about Dany's dragons and this show. I won't spoil anything, but the dragons come in many different shapes and sizes. It's possible the eggs are not as old as you think.
@@psychedelicpegasus7587 I like my theory and I'm going to hang onto it until I fall off the dragon's back! 😁
Queen Aemma was going to die either way, there was no saving her at this point. It was just about trying to save the child baby
So if you didn’t like incest in GOT you guys need to get ready for this 😂
Breaker of Chains (Daenerys’ theme) plays right when Viserys is explaining Rhaenyra the prophecy about the prince who was promised 🥹🥹❤
IM SO EXITED ABOUT THIS!!!
ME TOO!
The pregnancy scene was INSANE. Traumatization is an understatement when I watched that scene, I felt myself turning genders 🤣
remember, like GOT, this show is like "its not that bad, it cant get worse"
