If you’re a 911 operator who answers for emergencies but you can’t come to the conclusion that a caller whispering may be in an emergency then you don’t need that job honestly

I'd support a law that requires all "paid leave" to be returned with interest if the person is later found to be grossly negligent. Consequences really aren't enough for most people anymore, seems money is the only real deterrent.

You can’t do that without a proper investigation. Imagine a professional world where people are just fired on the spot for something that’s not completely obvious. And that’s the case here. It’s sucks, but innocent people can be fired for stupid crap. The next one might be you. If this is the case, I hope this dispatcher gets stripped of their certification and never works add a dispatcher ever again.

Dispatchers like to power trip sometimes. I say this as an ally to first responders. I’m a former EMT, and was an ER nurse for 10 yrs. My husband is also on a police officer, currently on retirement leave! It reminds me of the time a dispatcher chastised a clearly terrified (intellectually challenged) caller who was trapped in flood waters saying something like” I guess you shouldn’t have tried to drive through high water” . The woman kept apologizing to the dispatcher, she was found dead in her vehicle. They found that although the dispatcher was a bit condescending there was ultimately no wrongdoing.

Why are 911 operators so slow and ask dumb questions... heard one call someone said they were shot operator asked are they bleeding🤪 There should be more requirements, training, & educational background to be a 911 operator. Otherwise fire them all & make it automated, press 1 for fire or 2 for ambulance , 3 for police🙄

    • @brandonmcdaniel6727

911 operators are a huge component in what's wrong with the system. So often they ignore callers in an emergency and send cops to overreact in a nonemergency. I think they all need to be retrained or replaced with people who care about the callers and can tell which are real.

for those curious : Jaydon’s family sued the city and settled for $50,000 in court.
After his (dispatch) resignation, Matthew accepted a job about a year later at the Bernalillo Fire Department, but it wasn’t long before he was fired. Matthew received news of his termination only days after he was hired, leading him to later sue the city for wrongful termination. In 2018, KRQE reported that the Bernalillo Fire Department agreed to pay out a settlement of $25,000. Since then, it seems that Matthew Sanchez has been pretty under the radar, as he has virtually no digital footprint.

It appears lately that dispatchers are being given a bit too much latitude in determining what constitutes an emergency. Frivolous calls are easy to discount, but a whispering person is not one. You get the info, dispatch a unit and stay on the line. Let the responding unit determine if it's an emergency and handle accordingly. This was totally inappropriate.
