She’s absolutely right, she was left to die simply because she didn’t want the gunman to hear her. I was a 911 operator for 5 years. You’re trained to deal with situations like this. We know a whisper means the caller is close to the perpetrator. We’re supposed to let caller know we’re there and pinged the call and send help. Never hang up.
I'll go you one better. I used to work in the complaint department of a business and our first and most important rule was never hang up on a customer. We'd be given a warning the fist time and put on probation, and if it ever happened again within that period, you'd be terminated. Thing is, those weren't even life or death call. Just the company's reputation for providing quality service.
Except I have been hung up on when a man was trying to violently break into my house at 3 a.m. - trying all doors and windows and trying to physically break down the doors while screaming. I was told to hide in a closet and he would eventually leave. Then they hung up and never sent the police to check if I was ok. If he would have been able to get in somehow, I would have been toast.
Got the chills when she said she could hear the glass crunching under his feet as he walked closer. Terrifying. I'm glad she's physically okay. No telling how long she'll suffer from being traumatized.
There are new techniques in therapy like EMDR and biofeedback that could really help the employees and customers who had to witness this. I hope there are professionals in their area reaching out to them!

@@andrereed2629 that's actually who compassion is for-those who are separated from their own humanity. I hope one day you can understand this and it brings you peace.
I was a dispatcher myself. This is unacceptable and unbelievable, too. Not professional at all. Its awful. These people have no other option than you, the one dispatcher that picks up. You are the one person that needs to do everything possible to help. That is the pride of every professional dispatcher to never let anyone down.
I was also treated so terrible by a 911 operator when my Sister died. I was nervous and he was fussing and yelling at me and I was crying, but I was too hurt to fuss back.
I was a 911 call taker for 3 years. If someone is whispering, we are TRAINED to listen and stay on the line .. keep the line open and listen until you have enough info to dispatch an officer.. I don’t know how on earth this dispatcher hung up without knowing the terms of the call. Unbelievable.
I hope this is a message that universal training is needed for dispatching. There seems to be a disparity during the hiring/training process and dispatcher positions need to be taken more seriously.
Isn't a caller whispering on the phone to emergency services an indicator of present danger? For the number of mass shootings that happen in America, you would think a dispatcher would take a wild guess. Mass shootings on the daily aren't a way of life, it's not normal and it's horrifying that Americans have accepted it as such.
@@johncheney3008 True that its even less than that. Most are suicides others are murders, but I feel as the new ramps up it just gives these low lives a platform to show off their murderous rampage to the world. They want infamy and the news wants shooting to push new gun legislation.

"She left me there to die" is an absolutely accurate summary of what this operator did, and it is the reason why she is not fit for this job. If the operator heard enough to say "they can't hear you", she heard enough to know that the caller was in danger. As a former dispatcher, I can tell you that many of the 911 calls we answered were either screaming or whispering. What is the hiring requirements like for a dispatcher?... I'm just curious... I would think that they would have to hire people who are very upbeat and kind of happy to be of service to people... Not mean or uncaring... What I'm trying to say is there should be a certain personality type that they are aiming for....
@@zulu3274 Like most jobs, I'm sure there is a certain personality type they try to hire. Sadly, 911 operators have one of the highest stress jobs and are underpaid for their work. I've known plenty of happy upbeat EMTs and operators who leave to become servers or retail managers because they need a break from their careers.
@@zulu3274 we went through a series of different tests to weed out applicants. We had typing test, a reading comprehension test. As a dispatcher, you are the first person on the scene and its their job to handle each call accordingly... sometimes that means listening if you have trouble hearing the caller, connecting a translator if the caller doesn't speak their language or TTY for a deaf caller, asking yes/no questions to find out why they're whispering, providing instructions if necessary, keeping the caller calm, and dispatching medics. Even if they couldn't hear the caller, technology is so amazing that you can see on a map where the caller is calling from and get their location, if its a landline you can see the exact address...either way you should dispatch patrol to check out the scene. I worked in a 911 dispatch and every call was an unknown situation, don't get it twisted it NOTHING like TV dispatch shows like 911, etc. But wow, the level of incompetence, she actually did leave her to die, and if she did die, she would have faced charges. Training is key for these types of jobs, they get tedious and boring (extremely) but there's no excuse for that. I bet anyone who interacted with that dispatcher on a daily basis would know she's not right for the job.
She could literally hear the gunshots in the background. She is not the first sociopathic 911 dispatcher with no care for human life. I remember the story of a lady who drove into flood waters and pleaded for help from a 911 dispatcher, and the dispatcher badgered her for making a mistake and said it was all her fault that she was going to die. The way that operator acted, especially not calling back...and saying "why you whispering, he can't hear you" was that operator watching that murder's live stream????
A lot of these people working those 911 calls are just too involved with themselves. They're just there for a paycheck. Not realizing that this job is more than a paycheck. Police officers do the same thing.
When you look at it this way, that the 911 operator assisted the shooter by dropping the call and give the shooter more time, even if the extra time is milliseconds. You realize a charge of Aiding and Abetting or accessory to murder is only fair.
Her describing that moment the shooting stopped and the store went silent while he was walking around was absolutely terrifying and chilling. She was incredibly brave to have gone through all that.
I hope she (and all the victims) are offered counseling and take advantage of it for as long as necessary. I too worked in a grocery store in 1992 when a gunman entered and started killing people, I too thought I was going to die. My point is even after years of therapy I still have PTSD all these years later. It's not crippling or debilitating anymore but random fireworks and other loud noises as well as helicopters circling overhead (between air evacs and press helicopters) I still get triggered 30 years later. My heart goes out to you all and I'm so very sorry for your loss, and that this monster entered your lives. 😥💔

If you’ve ever called 911 you know they’re usually mean as hell. They’re jobs are super stressful but at some point they just straight up lose compassion and patience
I've experienced very aggressive and rude dispatchers. If you're crying they "can't understand", and the list goes on. Horrible people working for their own personal cause and not to live up to the expectation of saving lives.
I'll say it because no one else is speaking up about it, but seriously...these civil services/911 call centers, etc. need to be a lot more selective in their hiring practices, because so many times I have made a call to a police department/customer service line...whatever....and the person on the other end of the call just sounded loud and clear like they don't want to be there and were never taught any manners when they were brought up.
I find most civil service workers are lifers, know it and treat the public however they want. Tiny people w power are often remarkably unkind, difficult to deal with and grudgingly unhelpful.
Well that's the world people wanted. Diversity hires, completely incompetent and spoiled people, no one cares about their work and so on. The brave new world
Young lady…you’re one of the bravest people I’ve ever seen…please, don’t be afraid to seek out help from a mental health provider…there is absolutely nothing to be ashamed of by doing that…you can be strong, and seeking help only proves how strong you are…God Bless you and your friends…especially those friends you’ve lost…we are praying for all of you!!!
why don't you pray to your god to stop the shootings before they happen? while you're at it maybe tell this god to do something about the 5 million babies that die every year - maybe, since prayers never work but people keep spouting this absurd and pointless lip service, you should pray for a brain.

For real 🙄. The useless dispatcher deserves to get fired. Let god sort her out. I’m glad the 911 caller is ok but she will be scarred for life because of the disgraceful dispatcher.
The 911 system needs to be able to accept texts, pictures and non verbal communication ,because you may not want to/ or able to talk during an emergency in fear of being detected and shot.
Really. In an emergency situation, clear spoken communication is not always easy, and on top of that, people who are Deaf or HOH need access to emergency services as well. I have heard of stories of people calling 911 and falling silent for a few minutes, and the operator would try to regain contact and wait for the caller to talk again. They wouldn't just hang up. the last conversation i had with a cop, just about a month ago, where the neighbor who's been harassing me for 6 years filed a FALSE police report against ME, WHICH IS A CRIME, all the damned cop had to say was - "we have better things to do than babysit you people!" THAT'S THEIR ATTITUDE! when cops become the criminals then WE HAVE NO LAW! and, in america over the last 20, 30 years, we have no law. the u. s. is a LAWLESS SOCIETY!

Yes, she’s needs to be gone. You should never hang up on a 911 call. You stay with them no matter what. Fire her…
Well then make punishment for the prank/fake calls harsher.
You can't have both "they should never hang up" and "boohoo decriminalize minor offenses".

@@kneegerman2076 what a terrible take, but the universe agrees with everything you agree with, so don't be surprised if you bring this energy to you or a loved one, desperate need of help and won't get it!

What a brave lady, she is fantastic in her description of what happened, I feel like I can see everything she was describing in real time.. The site silence must have been terrible. God bless her and everyone affected.
Tears rolling down my face. That poor woman. She knew two of the victims, too. I can't imagine the pain that she's got in her soul. Heart wrenching. I hope she can get some reassurance from a therapist (who can afford that?) or her clergy if that's an option. I know in my heart her family will be there for her.
When she started crying… that broke me down… I pray for her and everyone touched by this tragedy and the many tragedies that we will never know about… just heartbreaking.
Usually in these instances, many therapists offer their services pro bono
I’m still getting over the fact that he actually asked her if she knew any of the victims!! WTHF???!!! She is a Store Manager of the only store in the area, and she most likely knew folks from her working there!!! But he sure did get the reaction he was looking for; PTSD in the making.
Im sure the store she works at will make sure those spared will have access to counseling and trauma therapy but the PTSD will never go away
When someone calls 911 and whispers it's usually because the situation is severe. That's a no brainer

Well...that depends, was it the same situation as what took place in Buffalo? A gunman targeting a particular group of people because of their race?
I'm pretty sure it was a conflict between two people that got severely out of hand, since I'm listening to the police chief's remarks now, and he is saying that exact thing.
What were you talking about?
It is almost a cliche that 911 dispatchers are completely apathetic. IDGAF about their job being boring.
I too was a 911 Operator for 6 years. You NEVER EVER hang up on a caller, even if it's kids playing on the phone. We actually did get alot of that and it would tie up the Operators, but we did as we were trained to do.
I feel any 911 Dispatcher who is negligent to their jobs and others life's, should face heavy charges. I can't wrap my mind around a person who can hear all of this horror going on, and remain so cold, callous and indifferent? Termination is a joke. The dispatcher needs to face both termination and prison time. An Officer or a Nurse would be brought up on charges, so should a Dispatcher...
Training isn't the issue, you can't teach common sense.

@@SoManyRandomRamblings I won't be surprised. This operator's response is very off. Never be surprised who may be connected to this.

I too worked in a grocery store in 1992 when a gunman entered and started killing people, I too thought I was going to die. My point is even after years of therapy I still have PTSD all these years later. There's a chance that the person will keep their job, the public most likely will not know if termination of employment happens, especially with their identity being kept confidential. I’m afraid we’re well on our way toward creating an entire society of “individuals” who care nothing about others because that’s how our society is rigged. If we care about others, there would be unions, and free education, universal healthcare and affordable housing. We cannot condition people to compete in an “every man for himself” economy, then expect them to serve the greater good when the SHTF. Train like you fight. If you want a compassionate society, it starts with contributing to it in a manner meaningful to others and not yourself. The ultra rich in this country became so through the exploitation of others, setting the example for a society of competition that allows for no mercy. We can’t have it both ways: individual responsibility or community cohesion. I vote for community.

I’m interested… when people say I hope and pray… do they mean it? Like is it a momentary thing or do you go to church and pray, or pray beside your bed? Or is it just a saying? I've experienced very aggressive and rude dispatchers. If you're crying they "can't understand", and the list goes on. Horrible people working for their own personal cause and not to live up to the expectation of saving lives.
I'll say it because no one else is speaking up about it, but seriously...these civil services/911 call centers, etc. need to be a lot more selective in their hiring practices, because so many times I have made a call to a police department/customer service line...whatever....and the person on the other end of the call just sounded loud and clear like they don't want to be there and were never taught any manners when they were brought up.
There's been a few that hung up and people that called died or someone they called for. Some even ignore the calls all together.
