  • @Gallery90
    @Gallery90 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    Probably the most rational comparison I've seen of these two phones. They seem very close, with just enough differences that you can make a choice.
    I finally got tired of my Samsung "normal" phone: even though it has huge battery life it was not a good hip carry (I've never kept my phone in a pants pocket). These two came alone just as I needed to make a change. I picked the Razr+ and any deficiencies in the photo image quality look like they can be fixed in post. I think that we're going to see some even more impressive flip phones over the next few years -- and gradual price reductions.

    • @Gallery90
      @Gallery90 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@anthonylawson518 Yep. I got the Moto-endorsed cover for it (tried one from Amazon that would start slipping out of my hand at normal pressure) and a Turtleback belt holster (actually the model for the Samsung due to the cover making the Moto slightly thicker overall -- I sent photos and dimensions to Turtleback).

    important consideration: There are no authorized vendors to do repairs to motorola so you need to mail it in when (not if) the screen breaks. Major hassle. I owned the razr and the screen was broken in 3 months with normal use

  • @mariusagurhagelundlind7240
    @mariusagurhagelundlind7240 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    I've got both devices now and I will be keeping the Razr+/40 ultimate, and one thing I'd like to point out in regards to the cover screen:
    You cannot perform actions on notifications on the samsung, so no "mark message as read" or approve and MFA request. And in addition, despite it being a "widget focused cover screen" you can actually only use Samsung cover screen widgets, you cannot use the regular widgets.
    So if, for example, you have a Tesla, you cannot unlock car/open boot, etc from the notifications, and you cannot add the tesla widget to start heating etc. This would of course be true for any other apps with similar functionality (but I have a Tesla, so that's where my experience lies)
    So not only do you not get the power user content, you cannot even reliably use app content from other makers.
    As a widget cover screen I would give it a failing grade, just because you rely on app makers to make dedicated widgets for the cover screen (which they will not).

    • @georgebishop4941
      @georgebishop4941 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Whilst I appreciate your niche app perspective there, once you install good lock and launch standard apps from the cover screen all apps work great with few exceptions - there really is no need to rely on widgets. Also the hinge on the Samsung is of far higher quality.

  • @jeffwoodard
    @jeffwoodard ปีที่แล้ว +37

    I picked the zflip only because next year i will be able to trade it in for the newer version z flip 6 for very little cash. Motorola's offer for my trade in was ridiculously low. Thats truly where samsung shines and they know this. I still like the look of the razr better and i think their more stock software is better. As others have stated, you will be generally happy with either.

    • @Princeton_James
      @Princeton_James ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I totally agree. Try trading in a moto or a one plus and see what you get for it. I got 650. On a Note 8 trade in from my carrier. Unbelievable.

    •  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is so true. I live in latin america and I just got a flip 5. I traded in a OnePlus phone and the trade in value was higher than what I would get from flipping it on Facebook Marketplace or something of the sort. I love the Magenta color, the look of the Moto and the power user features of the cover display, but the assurances in terms of durability, warranty, and trade-in value next year from Samsung just really pushed it over the edge for me. Am I a boring adult??? I think so, lol

    • @six10creative
      @six10creative ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Very true! I looked at the trade-in on motorola and they only wanted to give you a couple hundred bucks, where as Samsung takes about 2/3 the cost off. Plus, Samsung's financing options are way better than the "Affinity" financing motorola uses. If Moto would step up in that department, they would get a higher volume of sales.

    I'm gonna be very honest with battery life. I'm not a big user with screentime (not scrolling social media and not streaming)
    I simply check emails and mostly use Spotify with my RAZR+. On standby my MR+ will last 5 to 6 days on standby (using super battery saver mode). And I turn off WiFi and data toggle, NFC and Bluetooth as well. I'm frugal and can stretch batter life if your doing it this way. I game instead with my OnePlus 11 and videos with my iPad mini 6.
    Really enjoy the Motorola RAZR plus.

    Tbh, in terms of the cover screen, the camera cutout on the Moto RAZR just seems like a gimmick since-with the cameras being that big- you can't really see or interact with anything behind them, there's literally no use for the display being under the camera.

    Yeah. The Flip is a blast to own and operate but the 3700 battery is disappointing. Especially coming from an iPhone, especially if coming from a Plus or Pro/Pro Max. Lisa is dead on about "moderate" use lasting a "day." I would say I use the Flip very moderately and by early evening, like, 8pm, the battery is often at 15%. So, don't expect to take the Flip for a night out without charging before you leave work or going home for a quick rejuicing before hitting the bars/clubs 🙃

Lastly, your attempt at a rejoinder, wherein you boast of your phone's three day battery life because you ONLY use the smaller, outer screen is not analagous or relevant to anything I discussed in my post.

    I have the Z Flip 4 (also had the Flip 3 which was just ok but as a guy I liked the form factor) and really like it. I am skipping the 5 and will likely get the 6 next year when it comes out. The Flip 4 was a big improvement over the 3 but other than the larger outer screen, which doesn't excite me, I don't see a reason to upgrade to the 5. However, if you don't own a folding phone you don't know what you're missing. Its a great phone/camera that fits nicely in any pocket size. Also, I accidentally fell into salt water in the Gulf of Mexico with the Flip 4 in my pocket and it was unaffected. I saw Motorola has the Razr+ on sale for $799. That's a solid deal.

      @@kramshiron What you are talking about are incremental upgrades. The hinge on my Flip 4 works great and speed is also excellent. The larger outside screen is nice to have but certainly not a must have. But if you don't own one then the 5 would be my 1st choice for the incremental upgrades. But no, it's not "way better". Just you saying that makes me laugh.

    Another great review. I am a Samsung Flip 4 user & having seen numerous reviews I'm now waiting for my Flip 5. The Flip 5 is a better quality & although the Flip 5 has no dust rating it actually & very convincingly beat the Razr Ultra in the live utube dust test & fold test that was done last week. Flip 5 over 400,000 & Razr 126,000.. Dust got into the Razr hinge & under the screen.

    It seems like no one is willing to admit that Moto has a much better product. Its sleeker, more beautiful, smaller, has amazing Moto Android integration, and dosen't require apps to be approved by Samsung on the front screen. And with that it takes the cake. And to mention as well, it beats the folds by Samsung and Google. You don't have a brick in your pocket, which is a huge drawback when it comes to working out or going to the gym, and the fold feature there is very lightly used. Its actually a step backwards compared to the functionality of the Surface Duo 2 if your looking for sole productivity, as it relies on software multitasking instead of the benefits of hardware design. With this hardware design, you get much more use during the realities of everyday life, especially with Moto's full cover display where apps don't have to be pre-approved. It's possibly the best phone made yet and I think it's catching a lot of tech reviewers by surprise.

    • @Johnnyiswhere
      @Johnnyiswhere ปีที่แล้ว +9

      No one wants to admit that no one is buying the Moto. Main reason is that Samsung offers 5 years of updates and has more integrated software with their ecosystem. Case closed

    • @apronichkin
      @apronichkin ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@Johnnyiswhere Bah. Very few people in developed markets are willing to stick to the same phone for five years, and those people are probably not the target audience for a flagship anyway.
      Both Razr+ and Flip 5 are seemingly marketed towards millennial or Gen Z creators. Those are the folks who love being on the bleeding edge. They will change their phone sooner than they change underwear.
      Moreover, not everyone appreciates a lock-in to a very integrated ecosystem. If I wanted to get all my tech gear from the same company for eternity, I'd start with getting an Iphone.

    • @Johnnyiswhere
      @Johnnyiswhere ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @apronichkin not everyone, but most Samsung users, yes. Which is why the Z flip will outsell the Moto 10× over.
      I'm sure the Moto is a good product, and I'm glad people like it as we need the competition to drive tech forward.
      But there are so many intangibles that just make the flip the winner for me. Updates aside, better cameras, better wireless charging, battery life, better trade in offers, slicker hinge, better access to accessories. I could go on...

    • @adeomara5361
      @adeomara5361 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      5 years update, cheap when trade for newer version, better OS, ecosystem and etc. Like who doesn't want that? Samsung definitely win here

    • @apronichkin
      @apronichkin ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@adeomara5361 I don't disagree. Those are very nice things. (Apart from the "better OS" and "ecosystem". Those are debatable and subjective.) I would gladly take them if they were "for free" (i.e., without compromising other things.)
      What I'm saying is those might not be the main reasons for many people. E.g., for me personally, the looks, almost vanilla Android, dust resistance, battery life, bigger screen, etc. are all more important factors than 5 years of support or trade-in value. Which is why I'm a happy Razr+ user. So, to me, it's not that obvious that "no one is buying the Moto".

    I thought this was a fair video to both phones. The only thing I noticed was in some shots the Moto's brightness was turned down to a lower level. I leave mine at 50% most if the time. The phone is very capable of being super bright when you need it to be. Also there is a saturation adjustment in the Razr's settings. The biggest flaw for me is the poor stabilization when shooting video. Lastly, i dont care about the always in display not being there. I just touch to he phone. I would like a little red or green dot for notifications that works on both screens when the phone is in standby. Other than that i like the Razr this time around. Both phones have huge improvements and you will probably be happy with either one. Lastly, put the phone in a good case. I'm using the Zagg case on my Razr. Avoid the cheap $10 cases
