I BOUGHT A CHEAP R56 MINI COOPER S FOR £650!

I got this Mini Cooper S from BCA car auction over in Nottingham, however things did not go to plan. I got the car cheap (£650 hammer price) as I was aware of the engine management light being on, however after collecting the car I quickly discovered the car has a pretty bad oil leak! This left me in two minds with what to do with this car as these R56 models can be problematic! It is a nice car overall with 113,000 miles, a reasonable spec, including a John Cooper works exhaust system.. Let me know what you think I should do!

Trade it out. The mini with that engine is notorious for major problems. The engine is sourced from Peugeot, and is a problem even for Peugeot.

Not for the Factory JCW N14. (The whole engine is a revision of the Cooper S N14 engine, with many reinforced things and improvements)
I have one, bought it back in 2008, serviced every 5000 KMS/3000 MILES, never had a problem, runs like new.
At the moment: 62000 miles. (It's one of my cars, the other being a fiat, lol).
So, IT DEPENDS. FJCW N14 vs Cooper S N14.

You want to compression check it bud, usually the miss fire is a valve burning out, the ecu measures the cylinder balance and if its out it shuts the low comp cyl down, then you've got your miss fire back, depending how bad it is it might not happen for a while, but it will come back, people don't realise and do plugs and leads, check compression and if ones down get rid, like you I've had loads of trouble with them.

@@BuySellCarsTV if it's all good then your lucky mate, I've had heads off them and replaced valves but usually the seat has maybe warped, did one, sold it, guy back, been to a garage, new plugs and leads, didn't fix it, back to me, maybe a slightly blocked injector making it run lean, don't know, that engine is junk tbh, had a one owner, fbmwh, same thing miss fire, sold it as a bit of a project.

I sold a diesel cooper the other week, wouldn't run right, spent ages on it, egr, took 895 for it, total waste of time.
