    I got a 07 Mini S identical to this one 3 weeks ago, minus the white stripes. It belonged to my grandfather who can no longer drive. It was just sitting not being used. We would start it & drive it occasionally when we visited just to keep it running. Brand new, pristine condition inside & out. Has 40,800 miles on it. Its been driven 71 miles since November 2019 lol. I had it serviced, checked over & have been driving it daily for 3 weeks now. Really fun little car, I'm really enjoying it.

    Very nice honest review. I like the way you point out all the small things that are wrong with the car.
    If it was my car, I would get the door fixed and bonnet resprayed. The bonnet is the first thing you see in a car and usually gives some indication as to how the car was driven or treated in the past. I wouldn't bother with a wheel refurb as this is pointless, so I agree with you there. Oil leakes on BMW minis are very common so my advise to potential buyers is that if you're worred about this then don't buy a mini! The rust on the front subframe has to do with the British salting their roads in wintertime. We never have this problem in Ireland.
    As a suggestion why not start the engine and show the engine running as part of the review? Looking forward to your next review.

    Worked on 100s of these, best tips i can offer, change the oil and filter every 5k, change the air and fuel filters every 10-12K, check the oil and water weekly, they burnt oil from new, and change plugs every 20k, any rattles from cold, probably timing chain, get it done straight away, otherwise catastrophe damage awaits. I've got two i recently purchased with blown engines, from exactly that to repair and sell on. Never trash from cold, run on premium fuel, and if you do alot of City runs, give them a good open run, thrashing, at least once a month to prevent carbon build up.
    My own 57 plate R56 was my ex BMW company car, when i was service manager, purchased it when i left, I've carried out the maintenance i recommend, now on 187k, replacement chain and tensioner fitted at 100k actually didn't need, no rattles, when i removed it, it was fine. Clutch replacement at 129K Apart from that, few problems, electric window switches replacement, air regassed and second hand compressor fitted, and a complete custom made stainless exhaust, and Eibach suspension, obviously service item's like disc's and pads, never let us down, still feels strong and healthy

      @@Budget-Cars-And-Bikes oh I'll add something, don't know if you've heard of Clean Drive? If i get a customer with a rough running Mini i stick a tin of that in it, give it a 50-60 miles blast, clears carbon deposits, cleans fuel system, egr valves, lamba sensor, cats, plugs, swear by it, see you do lot's of automotive videos, works wonders on Petrol and Diesel vehicles, I'm not a big additive fan, but i love this stuff, my mates Mercedes 320 diesel failed MOT on emissions last week, gave him a tin, he took it for a blast, went straight through retest. Regarding the R53 engine, it was a joint venture project between Chrysler (more their design I think) and BMW and built in Brazil of all places. I had a Cooper 53 plate, and I would say the engine was the weak point, loud, relatively little power and torque, didn't want to rev and poor fuel economy. I did borrow a Cooper S once and that did go well, but I imagine it would have been even worse on fuel.

      Most used cars have "Known Issue's" you just need to do the usual checks and hope for the best! As I mentioned in this video, the 1st One I viewed was so obviously screwed, but I think you really need to get under the car if possible and check for rust and suspension problems, the rest is pretty obvious and can be spotted with a torch and some investigation. If it seems wrong, then it most likely is, so walk away :)

    Prices at the secondhand cars market in UK never stop to amaze me. Any reasonable r56 cooper S in Holland or Belgium starts from 6000e. Not mentioning mint ones. I’m not surprised that so many people buy a car there and make a conversion to drive it in other, regular right side traffic countries in Europe. Why do the cars in UK loose the value so fast, or much faster than in EU countries?

    • @Budget-Cars-And-Bikes
      @Budget-Cars-And-Bikes  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Used cars here in the UK seem to be considered throw away items really, they are so cheap that people keep changing them every 12/24 Months. It's not unusual to see a 10 Years old car with 8 previous owners! and of course a lot of Countries have a tax system in place even for used cars, but in the UK private sales are all cash in your pocket

    • @theofn1335
      @theofn1335 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The UK has very a costly insurance, and the costs get higher as the car gets older. Hence the cheap used car prices.

    • @Budget-Cars-And-Bikes
      @Budget-Cars-And-Bikes  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@temperaturerecords I don't think it's a huge job to replace the front subframe, it's just bolts, the problems may start if they won't come out! but when I looked into it a few Years ago, I remember it was around 6 hours labour, I have a great local mobile mechanic who charges me £25 an hour, so if you can find someone close by your on a winner. As for welding, yes it's an option, this One had a couple of holes in the front frame, and they were welded up for the MOT without any issues, depends on far it's gone really. If it's not got holes and is just rusty then get some rust treatment, and a copper brush, treat it with the rust inhibitor and maybe a couple of coats of Hammeritte for good measure 😉

      @@keiranmordue9104 As far as I'm aware, the R56 can just only be started without the key, if it's already been started with it, then it's taken back out, and you press the brake pedal, as there is a delay in it loggng the key as being removed? But as I don't have the car now, I can't confirm that 😉

    • @EliasAnto
      @EliasAnto ปีที่แล้ว

      Unless the Mini includes the “comfort access” pack, the key fob will need to be inserted for the vehicle to start the first time.
      The “comfort access” pack allows for the proximity key fob, which lets you keep the fob in your pocket when you start the car.
      A way to tell whether or not your car has it is to check the exterior door handles. If there is a little black button, then you have the “comfort access” pack and thus, proximity key fob.

      Well it's a BMW so pretty good, but unfortunately the engine is from Peugeot so that has some well know issue's... then main One being carbon build up in the inlet manifolds, which slows the car down a LOT. but a decent Walnut blast cures this again, the front and rear subframes are made of garbage and rot just for fun, and the camchain tensioners are another known weak point, but generally day to day they are good little cars, and the good news is parts are very cheap and easy to find. You won't find anything as much fun for the money out there ;)

      As I said in the video, they all seem to suffer from rotting on the front and rear subframes, and oil leaks from the gearbox seal (and other places) nothing too terrible but worth looking at, and just make sure it's as quick as it should be, as they suffer from carbon build up which REALLY slows them down (about £200 Walnut blast sorts it out though) and any noises from the engine, as the camchain tensioners tend to fail due to bad design. Hope that helps :)

      @@vaughanwatkins7691 Yes everything you mentioned is well known on these, especially the carbon build up! but so far all you have is an EML issue? that could be anything really, hope it doesn't end up causing you too many problems, when they are good they are VERY good, but when they are bad, they are terrible! but that's why we make video's like this, to try and let you guys know what to look out for. Good luck with it :)

      @@Budget-Cars-And-Bikes the reasons listed oil leaks worn-out tires dents and dings rusty. Might want to get the timming chain guides and chain replaced, I have a 2009 s and just did the guides and chains and don't do it and not pull the oil pan you need to have it cleaned out as well.
