Not a fan of ASUS, not saying it's bad, not at all, but i don't like it's appearance and it's stupidly overpriced in my region. I have an ASUS Z77 second hand when bad PSU blowed up MSI B75 and it's working fantastic.
@@SolarityTechnology well gigabyte master lacks thunderbolt 4 so take your pick. You can add a 10Gbe card to the Asus and you can add a thunderbolt 4 card to gigabyte.
If the Gigabyte Z690 AORUS MASTER does only have PCIe 3.0 as secondary slots, wouldn’t it be more “future proof” to go with the MSI MPG Z690 CARBON WIFI/FORCE WIFI for the 2 PCIe 5.0 to accommodate future high speed extension cards (M.2 5.0, Thunderbolt 4, USB 4, …)? The trade of would be the 10GbE LAN and some fewer and slower USB ports… But does the MSI MPG Z690 CARBON WIFI has enough power and cooling for a workstation kind of use (photo, video, photogrammetry/drone mapping)? And what would be the differences between the Z690 CARBON and the Z690 FORCE? Same specs, shared manual but 120€ price difference (599€ for the CARBON vs 479€ for the FORCE in France…), is it just the color? PS: the AORUS MASTER retails at 529€
@@Chronix74 Thanks, that's what I thought but the price gap made me ask if I had miss something. Anyway, I went with the Aorus Master for the better thermal control.

what I did not say is that I waited a year to accumulate all these parts .. vid card and memory .. was in short supply as you all know .. but now I finally get to enjoy!
Nice viewo .... but I wish the comparisons of the different MB were similar, i.e. using same DDR memroy configurations (32GB DDR4, for example) to trully tell them apart, if possible. It seems DDR5 boards performed the best over memory intensive tests over DDR4 boards. It wasn't clear to me if they all used the same CPU (i9-12900K ?). If not, then these hard won tests are not valid, unfortunately.
If you want better hardware for your money, you should always wait. On the other hand, if you're buying now, ask yourself what is the best available platform atm.
Two and a half years later/after purchase, I kinda, sorta wish I had gone with DDR5, but at the time of purchase, you would've had to be a bit mad to do that. DDR4 boards were pretty insanely priced already and DDR5 ones were even more expensive, but the real deal-breaker was DDR5 prices. IIRC, I would've had to pay around 300 EUR for a decent kit back then. Which was more than what my CPU cost, so I went with DDR4. Plus DDR5 didn't have much of an edge vs DDR4 back then in most applications and that doesn't seem to have changed all that much since then. Anyway: I ended up breaking my decades-long tradition of using only Asus boards as the MSI Tomahawk's specs were closer to my needs *and* I could get a much better deal on the MSI - lower price plus MSI cashback = ~80 EUR between the MSI and the Asus TUF. Can't say I've regretted my choice and the board now runs a 14700KF instead of the 12600K I started with and everything seems to be working fine. I am however still baffled by mow much manufacturers have dialed back the features they throw on these things - especially the upper mid-range ones like the Tomahawk or TUF. I still have an old system sitting around here with a pretty basic Z87 Asus board in it that was around 130 EUR back in the mid 2010s .. and even that thing had a CLR CMOS button on the I/O and power/reset buttons on the board. Neither of which are to be found on the Tomahawk that cost twice as much in 2022. Heck, the Tomahawk didn't even come with a jumper for the clear CMOS pins on the board.. :D
Asus Hero! thunderbolt, "ai oc features via software and hardware! oc/ good for 12900k features but also because I need to stay in asus camp because of aio cooler I chose and rgb fans compatible software side, I was looking at the z690 strix E but I keep seeing the top ssd slot messing with the gpu pcie slot from x16 down to x8 so I'd rather spend more now then run into future problems kinda sucks! could u test slots on some boards to see if things like the strix e, is happening to any other boards would be good information! And further what does the problem actually do to your preforence
Very informative discussion. I am building an i7-12700K system. Initially, I had an Asus ROG STRIX Gaming WiFi motherboard, but it proved to be DOA. I have returned it and ordered a Gigabyte Aorus Master MB. It's in the mail now.
Word, I like my choice of getting the Gigabyte that has greatest VRM's for price. The Auros Pro of course. I could only get 4 bank groupsx2 banks (x16) memory (2x8gb) to start. I''ll just OC the processor and assess the results. Never been a 4 bank groupx2 banks memory unit before with DDR5 architecture so f it.
Currently I have a Gigabyte B75m-D3H, a DDR 3 board, with a 3rd Gen Intel Core i5 3330 Ivy Bridge CPU. Well, that is old, but it still is doing the job. Though it is on the way out now, experiencing what I believe may be I/O problems. The RAM is full of nonsens, but once they are in the right slots all is working, Screen at times don't want to come on, nothing that can't be fixed by removing the graphics card and inserting it again. Then there is the biggest pain, the hard drives struggel to read, sometimes they will just drop, but seems switiching them around for now did the job. But that will not work forever, so I am now looking for a new board, with the prices these days sky high I am looking at the Gigabyte Z690 Gaming X with the Intel i7 12700K CPU and 3600mhz DDR 4 RAM.

to be honest no real need to upgrade my amd 590x.....yes, benchmarks are better but in real life ...can you tell the difference? There is one thing, having heaps of USB devices is something that has me interested IF they all work if everyone is used , if you have a racing rig with all the bells you can run into problems as win10 cant handle them
I don't want a TH-cam channel so I can make money. I want a TH-cam channel so I can have a library of PC parts that I can sit in front of and feel like a straight bad ass. That backdrop is so nice.
I wouldn't say those benchmarks are the same. For the DDR4 boards, Geek Bench was at least 15% worse, AIDA64 (MBps) was about 40% worse, and 7Zip about 80% worse! DDR5 is simply going to outperform DDR4. Sure, will the average person notice? Probably not, but then why are you considering high end boards/watching these reviews at all? I have my eye on the MSI MPG but it seems to be the outlier on these benchmarks. I know the differences aren't big but at least visually it sticks out from all other boards. I assume SuperPi is MM:SS, why an extra 20 seconds from all the rest?
I still am confused why no reviewer has done a side by side comparison of DDR4 4800 versus DDR5 4800. I am guessing all reviewers are holding out for future content.
Everything you need? You never dwelled into the details of the boards at all... You just talked about what we can see for ourselves when we see the pictures of them.
@@yutingli5202 Well I actually got the formula instead to match my build color. But I did originally have an extreme that lasted about 3 days before I had to RMA it. I just chose them for looks and future proofing.

Not a fan of ASUS, not saying it's bad, not at all, but i don't like it's appearance and it's stupidly overpriced in my region. I have an ASUS Z77 second hand when bad PSU blowed up MSI B75 and it's working fantastic.
I was interested in the Hero till I saw that it lacked 10Gb and costs a lot more than the Gigabyte Master that has 10Gb.
@@SolarityTechnology well gigabyte master lacks thunderbolt 4 so take your pick. You can add a 10Gbe card to the Asus and you can add a thunderbolt 4 card to gigabyte.
Is the Z690 AORUS Master support PCIe 5.0 + 2 PCIe 4.0 (x4) or PCIe 5.0 + 2 PCIe 3.0 (x4) (as said on Gigabyte website)?
PS: the AORUS MASTER retails at 529€
@@nicophoto1298 Yes, just the color, the price differnece here is the white one is 10 dollars cheaper.
@@Chronix74 Thanks, that's what I thought but the price gap made me ask if I had miss something. Anyway, I went with the Aorus Master for the better thermal control.
@@ericrose3978 thanks, good choice too but unavailable at the moment in France and my actual computer is dying...
Anyway I went with the Master, not a bad motherboard. I'll manage later if I ever NEED M.2 5.0.
Gigabyte Z690 Aorus Master is the best board for the features, price and performance.
A cool processor that is suitable not only for fans of computer overclocking, but also for those who want their computer to work stably.
Strix-a d4 and 12900k for me. The 12600k seems like a great value CPU though.
I am looking a low end 670's DDR5's with debugging leds + IO flash bios buttons as a must have ! So it was great to see in hand (all be it yours) MSI Carbon and Gigabyte Aorus Pro which are the 2 I am currently looking at so thank you for some insight.
what I did not say is that I waited a year to accumulate all these parts .. vid card and memory .. was in short supply as you all know .. but now I finally get to enjoy!
Why did the TUF and Tomahawk perform so poorly on some of the benchmarks?
DDR4 .rest are ddr5
Is the z690 the highest end intel chipset for years to come ? Should I invest in one for a new build or better wait ?…
If you want better hardware for your money, you should always wait. On the other hand, if you're buying now, ask yourself what is the best available platform atm.
Gigabyte Z690 AORUS ELITE DDR4 ATX Motherboard is this a good board
this ad at the beginning? dude love it!
Kindly check motherboard burning issues in all the Brand’s. Thank you
Very informative discussion. I am building an i7-12700K system. Initially, I had an Asus ROG STRIX Gaming WiFi motherboard, but it proved to be DOA. I have returned it and ordered a Gigabyte Aorus Master MB. It's in the mail now.
Is there any Coil whine issue with your Asus mobo
My pick would be MSI Unify ofc if not breaking the budget, other wise Gigabyte Pro
Where is Asrock ?
Wheres the Gigabite Z690 AERO D..:P
I cant seem to find any DDR 5 RAM I have an ROG MAXIMUS Z690 EXTREME on the way
can you tell me all the parts that you're going to buy for the Xtreme motherboard? including VGA, Memory, etc
Can't wait for my Z690-I. Thanks for the video!
No problem. You’ll love the board!
Does it support DDR4 or only DDR5
@@alexfroehlich711 DDR5 Only :)
@@soxxks Poop! Wish there was cross compatibility. Thank you for the reply! Really appreciate it
Are the benchmark differences due to Ddr5 or just bad overall quality? It seems that the ddr4 boards are like 15% lower consistently
He literally says it at 6:00
help choose a board form these
MSI MPG Z690 EDGE WIFI DDR4 -
MSI MAG Z690 TOMAHAWK WIFI DDR4 -
ASUS ROG Strix Z690-A Gaming WiFi D4 -
ASUS TUF Gaming Z690-Plus WiFi -
Thank you for your great work as always! I am still struggling to decide between the Hero and the Aorus Master. Whats your take?
It’s a tough one. So much of it comes to price as they are very similar spec wise.
@@eTeknix Thanks. So which do you think looks better? Trusted you with my Z490 ACE back then so I am trusting you with this one too!
@Morsse Pre ordered both with only 50€ difference so not the end of the world. I think this is even making et harder...
@Morsse Nein ich hab auf Alza vorbestellt und dort das Hero für 580€ bekommen. Das Gigabyte dafür bei Amazon für 530. Also genau mittendrin.
Mal sehen...
More interested in the 2-DIMM XOC boards, like the Z690 Apex, Tachyon, Unify-X, etc.
r u hardcore overclocker
to be honest no real need to upgrade my amd 590x.....yes, benchmarks are better but in real life ...can you tell the difference?
So many motherboards and no Asrock :/ Can you include a couple of Asrock, like the Taichi and Steel legend? It's great mobos for the price.
I still am confused why no reviewer has done a side by side comparison of DDR4 4800 versus DDR5 4800. I am guessing all reviewers are holding out for future content.
Getting hold of ddr5 at various speeds is difficult right now.
Tomahawk Z690 all the way.. great value for the DDR4 version
This is exactly what i was looking for 😍❤️
Everything you need? You never dwelled into the details of the boards at all... You just talked about what we can see for ourselves when we see the pictures of them.
Thank you for this content! I was in between the hero and the extreme but after watching your videos, I am going with the extreme
why extreme? Same conflicting here
@@yutingli5202 Well I actually got the formula instead to match my build color. But I did originally have an extreme that lasted about 3 days before I had to RMA it. I just chose them for looks and future proofing.
Gave a like just for that ad at the beginning
my friend built my desktop for me and told me to get MSI B450 GAMING PRO
CARBON MAX WIFI, I did. I don't find anything wrong with it. but, it
seems like asus seems to be the go to motherboard. I don't hear nor see
many doing things on MSI motherboards. If I ever build or have a friend
do another PC for me, I'd go with the ASUS.. I'm unsure how good the
gigabyte company is, really I don't know how great the MSI / ASUS are
either.
“It has 10 usb 3.2 ports with varying speeds…” can you elaborate why speeds with the same standard are different?
Gen 1, gen 2 and gen 2x2. All are varying speeds between each generation.
Can't decide between Gigabyte Aorus Master and Asus Hero
Can anyone tell me, ANYONE!!! Why, WHY!!!! Do motherboard manufacturers give LESS PCIE slots for their 'better' boards??? I'm NOT going to sacrifice my cards to satisfy their desire to short change me so WTF is going on here???
i like the buildzoid reviews. its candid.
Well since ddr5 ram is basically a myth right now, a mirage you see on sites and the fact that I dont want to wait for it to become available again. TUF Gaming it is
For me it's the Temps when pushed and feature sets I want to see in videos
Good job my bro!
This was so good, motherboards are the most confusing things. Thank you so much!!
subbed man
Thanks dude! 😍🥰
i plan on going for the asus rog maximus z690 hero. i prefer the design of the hero over the extreme.
Just recently got the Crosshair X570 Extreme and now I want the Maximus!
To summarize: what’s the best DDR4 z690 ???
Hello, everyone !
Very good review !
I really like it !
excellent video! Aorus Mastar
I really want that Gigabyte Master.
