This cab is a definite standout in anyone’s collection, and I absolutely love mine! I never experienced the original in the arcades growing up, nor did I ever emulate it before - so it was a pleasant surprise to find the games on it really fun! I do enjoy chasing the high scores on this, and Disc of Tron is sooo good!
The only real down-side is that there are at least a dozen very good games that could have also been on this cab b/c of the unique controller setup. But I understand why they didn't - Disney likely wouldn't allow it even if A1up had wanted to. But I agree - the cab looks so good and the games are a great way to sit down, turn off the brain, and just blast away for 10 minutes. And I won't buy an A1up that doesn't have wifi anymore - chasing those high scores is such a great additional benefit!
Got to play discs of tron back in 1983 it was really cool because you had to sit inside the cabinet to play it
DISKS was a blast when it first came out for sure.
We had the stand up version and it was great
My local small town mall arcade had the now classic standup Discs of Tron Elemental Cabinet and I played it all the time! I was more fortunate than I even knew. So my longtime goal is to get an Arcade 1up and mod it to be a “what if Arcade1up made an Elemental Cabinet Discs of Tron offering”

I didn't know they were making another sequel. That's actually great news. Let us know how you like that ALU TRON/GRS set-up (realistically the only other way to play TRON the right way).
I have this one, Star Wars, burger time and am getting dragons Lair this week. Going to have them all next to each other. 1ups most unique looking cabs all in one spot.
Yeah, it's amazing what just a few of these unique shaped cabs can do to make it look like a "real" arcade.

Is TRON the high water-mark for Arcade1up/ What lessons can it teach them now?
I recently bought one for a steal off marketplace for $200 new in the box. I haven't done any mods yet but i did buy the Tron flight stick and the metal Star Wars yoke in December when Glenn had his sale going on. Tron is an awesome cabinet! You'll have lots of fun playing it 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

One of my young nephews personal favorites! Something special to see even 3 generations later, young gamers seems drawn to unique form factors and controls.
Having people play games they never otherwise would is a big part of why I've made a home arcade. And TRON is definitely a game that makes people say, "What's that?"
I only own Tron and Star Wars, and the mods I bought for Tron took it to another level.
TRON's a great cab because not only does it look great out of the box, with a few relatively easy mods it can be even better.
I'm surprised Arcade1Up hasn't tried Kickstarter for funding specific arcade builds yet. There has to be a large number of people who would be willing to support say a HOUSE OF THE DEAD cabinet for 2024 (especially in the ravenous horror community). Seems like a "no-brainer" to me. I mean the horror community is responsible for almost single handedly keeping physical media alive at all (Scream-Factory, Arrow Video, Vinegar Syndrome, Kino Lorber etc.). I'm really surprised Arcade1Up doesn't attempt a horror themed cabinet.
As for the monitor size 17" vs 19". They are only going to use 19" for the XL line of cabinets period (& they have only made 4 XLs since their inception). If they make an Alien vs. Predator it will be a Deluxe with a 17" BOE monitor. That is the line of cabinets they are moving into the future with. We will get XL cabinets sprinkled in here and there, but they will only be big titles which will assuredly sell. Minimizing risk will be the name of the game in 2024, which is why I suggest Kickstarter.....
This is second hand, so grain of salt, but my understanding is crowdfunding was brought up a couple of years ago a soundly rejected by company brass. Perhaps they'll change their tune moving forward. And I agree, AvP will be a 17" monitor (if it happens at all), but it will be a fail in my eyes if it's a 3 player in that tiny form factor. I'd LOVE a House of the Dead, but I fear that it will never happen now.

On a related note; Buy Stuff Arcades will be offering 19" monitor conversion kits for all Deluxe cabinets, so as long as you get a good price on the arcade a bigger screen will be pretty simple. Much easier than the 2007FPB Dell option.
I may have to convert one of the Deluxe Big Buck Hunter cabinets into a HOUSE OF THE DEAD if nothing gets announced for 2024. The problem is running the SEGA Naomi roms properly on MAME. I've only seen a few people pull it off. Most everyone else is running the garbage WI port or the Dreamcast version (Retro-Shooter Pandora mod). The Dreamcast version was outstanding on the original console, but terrible on emulation (buggy mess with all kinds of texture issues). If Arcade1Up could pull HOTD 1&2 off it would be legendary!@@evilgeniusentertainment
I for one can’t wait to see your mods and I hope you show us in detail how to do them. Make this a one stop shop for modding this cab. And if you don’t show us all the mods at least talk to us about them so we can look up other mods and try them for ourselves. So glad you finally got this cab. I know it was your dream cab for a while.
Yeah, it's been a long wait! The cool thing about this cab is that the mods are just icing on an already great looking cake. And b/c I did them as I built the machine they were (probably) a bit easier to accomplice. I'll definitely get a "how to" mod video up soon....
@@evilgeniusentertainment I have this cab but it has sat in a box for almost a year because I have been waiting to get my basement finished. So seeing these mods I can do them just like you as I am putting it together.
It's really not too bad - essentially just swapping out the j-panel for the new one.
This channel makes me feel like _I'm not wasting enough money_ on this hobby. ;-)
Well good! Depending on how many cabs you have, it's really not that bad. I mean, if you buy 1 new Harley Davidson, you've spent more money then every cab ever made combined. Plus everyone, young and old, can play these machines. It's a great way to introduce a very cool part of our culture to the younger generation.
Great video. You grabbed a unit over $400-but it’s one sweet cab. A couple months ago our price point was $400. Since then I caved and bought my first three cabs-all xl. Pac-Man, Golden Tee & NBA. I’m loving the xls and agree. We want big and flashy!! I’m ready for more but the I’m not paying more than $550 unless it’s big and flashy.
Thank you Jamie! There's got to be some happy medium in pricing where A1up still makes money, but where people want to buy. And yeah, seeing how TRON rarely drops in price, for $450 I couldn't say no.

I love my Tron cab. Sold them all except Tron and Big Blue.
It's a cab almost impossible to home brew yourself, and the real cabs are usually beat to heck and expensive to boot, so yeah, I can see that.
I wish I had the room for it. I grew up in the 80s and this was and is my favorite arcade game, with a close second to the Star Trek Sit down unit. I hope they port it to a mini.
Weird that we have never seen a STAR TREK game.

Hey Nick1 Thanks for the kind words. Try googling "brentwooten-timerunner-tron-animation.mp4" for the animation. It's only about 15 seconds, so I can to do a little magic in my video editor to stretch it out, but it works great now.
The update from aracde1up caused my spinner to stop working. I wonder if there's any way to reset the whole thing.

Jay, I'm been hearing people calling for a XL version, and that would be incredible. Pricey ($899? $999?) if it does come out, but I'd be very surprised. And honestly, vertical screen games like Pac-Man or Tron play excellently on a 17" screen (unlike a 4 player beat 'em up), so the need maybe isn't as great. But yeah, it'd be amazing!
@@evilgeniusentertainment Your review was so excellent it got me SO pumped up for the existing Tron Arcade1Up I went hunting and I was able to find a used one that I'm checking out today for $650 (owner says he just replaced the joystick [which I've heard can be a weak point]). I'm getting excited to have THE BEST Arcade1Up cab ever made in my humble collection ! Thank kindly for teleporting me into the game grid 🤓

Can you send a link on the soft mod for Tron? Never heard of one.
Sorry if I caused any confusion - I meant only that all the mods I've done were "soft" in as much as they don't require drilling or sawing into the machine itself; that the cab could be return to stock condition if you wanted to. At this point I believe the only way to add games is to use a PC or some other 3rd party hardware.
You are late to the party. Day 1 purchase for me. I think I have done more mods to this cab than any other cab I own. You will want to do the Yeksun mod to the flight stick to prevent it from breaking. We need an XL Tron.

@@evilgeniusentertainment yeah look up Yeksun on youtube he shows how to do the preventative mod. It’s the one major flaw of the A1up design that hopefully they address if they do an XL and give us a a better flight stick with more durability.

I’ve always wanted Tron but have never been willing to spend $700 on it. Sure does look pretty though.
$700 is a tough pill to swallow. With all the mods I'm sitting 'round $650, which even though I'm a cheapskate, is worth it to me. I giggle every time I see the cab lit up.
It is very strange to me that so few space ship shooters have tried to compete in this format: the Raiden series, for example, but any of the big names in that category could be bundled together... ? Capcom tested the waters with 1943 and Sega with the Astro City "V"... maybe the numbers don't pencil.
Yeah, it's kinda weird that A1up's never done a pure shmup cab. One of the reasons why I still love the iiRcade is that there's so many shmups on it. SPACE HARRIER and ZAXXON would be awesome on TRON.....
iiRcade had a huge advantage in shipping with Sanwa joysticks and buttons: too bad they didn't -otherwise- have a winning formula. For me, it's either Sanwa, Seimitsu or nothing at all. @@evilgeniusentertainment

I would very very surprised if they did. STAR WARS maybe (it's just a bigger title/IP over all), but considering the complexity of build, and it being a relatively niche title, I'd guess not.
