Is the Best Buy A1up fire sale yet another indication of 1up's trouble, or a nothing burger?
Sounds to me like liquidation. I think they are done.
i agree with you no matter the reason why these stores are flushing them it doesnt look good for 1up. No 1up intentional leaks yet and radio silence from everybody including travis.
F&F released in May; Wheel in August; Time Crisis in late August. In other words, only 3 new titles and a long time between announcements. I think the gamble to go all-in on Deluxes was a bad one when it's pretty obvious people want those XLs.
Best Buy won't tolerate low-selling items, they will liquidate them quickly and cut ties with the distributor.

A1up is in trouble, that's pretty obvious JDV. At a minimum, they should have announced next round of XL's for 2024 with Mrs Pacman heading that lineup, Star Wars, Tron, Burger Time would all be huge sellers, but it seems like the ship has no captain over there and if Arcade1up was a movie it would be Clueless. Instead of getting rid of John D, I would have fired their CTO, the decisions they have made engineering wise are all for the buck, using junk Allwinner SBC's to save a few in pennies has backfired over and over, enclosing them in metal boxes on the back of heat generating monitors is another idiot move that has cost them many returns, warranty services and bad customer experiences.
The company has often times felt like a turn and burn night club operation. No seeming care for loyal customer base, or playtesting their products. But they're also the company that made TRON and STAR WARS and frankly, all those Deluxe cabs. A very up & down company.
You easily have the best visual quality in your content over everyone in the Home Arcade Community.

The Arcade1up cabinets that were clearanced at BestBuy were older models (Simpsons/SF2 Big Blue/Mars Attacks). Warehouse space is extremely valuable and Arcade1up products take up a lot of real estate. If Arcade1up was is trouble their entire line would have been liquidated. Best Buy also clearanced a ton of older tvs and appliances at the same time. I swear there is an art to the TH-cam Arcade1up drama videos....
Perhaps if this sale were the only thing, then sure, you'd be right. But the manufacturers of those TVs that just cleared didn't fire their CEO or head of acquisitions... But they did attend CES. A1up can't say any of that. And where's the sales on appliances? I need a new washer....
@@evilgeniusentertainment The appliances sold out within the last 24 hours. Same with most of the 2022 model televisions. I'm pretty sure Apple wasn't at CES 2024 either....lol! Companies change CEOs all the time. It's more an indicator for the direction a company wants to move towards than a blanket assessment of profitability.
Hey man, I hope you're right - I wish A1up the best. I want nothing more then to wake up tomorrow with an announcement of a slew of new cabs, a product road map, and stated goal of cab sales.

JDV. Once again, great video! At this point, I am no longer holding my breath for A1Up. With no announcements made, no appearance at CES and an unknown direction ahead, I have heard a few rumors that Tastemakers, the parent company of A1Up might be up for sale. If that is the case, then the writing may be on the wall on A1Up that the end may be nearing. Also, your videos continue to have solid, A+ quality!

Hey JDV! Another great video! Color me crazy, but I think Best Buy is on course to a slow death like Circuit City. I dunno, but a fire sale style purge like this is usually a barometer for a company's health.

It seams that Arcade 1Up is going out of business and they decided to wait until after the holidays for big sales and what ever did not sale they would put the cabs on sale that didn’t sale. We should hear in a couple of months that Arcade 1 Up is going out of business. And the way everything cost so much today doesn’t help. Thanks for the great video.
Hey, thanks Wayne! To be clear, I'm not saying they're going out of business (although that's possible). I think that until we see something positive from them - even just the announcement of a single new cab - that almost any small thing will be considered another shovelful of dirt...

I was never a fan of the riser. All cabs should be XL for the best possible arcade experience.
It's very weird how long it took them to get rid of the riser. If nothing else, it actually cost more to make the machines that have them. I actually think the Deluxe/17" screen size machines have their place, but if they can only do one kind of design, then XL's should win. Sadly, we're not too likely to many new XL cabs this year (if any).
I cannot argue with your logic and reasoning (you're not part Vulcan are you 🖖) and it saddens me to think that Arcade1UP might really be in a state of limbo regarding new licenses/new machines. And let me just say that Tron cabinet beside you looks AMAZING 💙 That being said, picture this next part of my comment coming from me as a small blue hologram projected onto the ground in front of you: "Evil Genius - I am still holding out hope for a Star Wars XL to come out on May.4th (or announced on May.4th) from Arcade1UP"
Thank you Jay! I like to think of myself as a Son of Spock.... And I agree with you 100% - a STAR WARS XL announced on May 4th would be very sweet (assuming it has wifi). It's the main reason I haven't bought the current version.
Whatever happens to A1U, the family and I will enjoy the machines we have now. As for AtGames 4K pinball, while visually the Zen tables are stripped down, the sharp and 60fps image should be a fun time for those just dipping their toes in a plug and play vpin.
Initially I was disappointed AtGames was no longer offering the upgrade board for existing ALP owners, but I’m glad I didn’t let the fomo get me. For the same price they were asking for the board, you can buy a second hand gaming laptop - the same exact one I’m using for my OTG - and VPX is an absolute stunner on it, as shown in my latest Short upload. Overall I’m happy with what I see in AtGames new vpin, not perfect, but a really solid one nonetheless.
Great post. Yeah, there's some great cabs by A1up out right now, and let's enjoy them. Totally agree about the 4K ALP - obviously it can't compete with a high end machine, but it doesn't need to. It's going to be a bucket load of fun to play and offer a great experience at a price that's not insane (expensive, but not insane). I'm just waiting to see what other skins they come out with.
Just admit it Evil Genius you just wanted to run a video cuz of that sexy new Tron in your background. 😆 I know the feeling buddy, took me forever to find one and when I did I was in love. I think in the next 4 months we should have an idea where 2024 is going both for 1up and retailers like Best Buy

OFF-ROAD would be a hoot. I think there's zero chance of it happening, but it would be cool. ROBOTRON/SMASH TV is realistically the only new title(s) I can see them putting out for '24, other then maybe AvP.
I’m only interested in a Star Wars xl and a Tron xl as well lol! I just know those would be so expensive.
Oh yeah, mad money. They still want $699 for TRON, so at least 200 more for an XL... of course, I don;t think a XL TRON is ever coming. STAR WARS maybe....

Why would it be so difficult to get a 30 year old game license anyway? I doubt that's the problem. The real issue is these cabs are not holding value. People don't want to buy anymore unless it's a drastic sale.
I think it depends on the title - obviously, some titles are licenses to print money. And I think the license holders might be holding out a grand payday as they've seen the (past) success of A1up. All that said, I think you're right - they likely do have at least some titles we haven't seen yet (or for a while, like BURGER TIME), but for whatever reason aren't releasing them yet. They introduced all those Deluxes last year, but the reception for them has been luke-warm as many simply want the XL version.
A1up has definitely died down all the way around. I remember when I would buy a new cab and sell the other for slightly under what I paid and throughout the past couple years that has completely changed. I’ve had big blue for sale for literally 8 months for $260 and finally sold, brand new in box Simpsons for $240 and used x men 4 player for $380 and still stuck with x men. It’s wild but the hype has definitely stopped Everyone wants to pay around $100-$200 for these cabs
I was wondering what was going on with all of BestBuys sales. Getting rid of bulky items that sit for something that they could pump out like TVs is definitely more likely. Arcade1up has definitely lost their momentum
I mean, I hope I'm wrong - I hope they're getting ready for a slew of new A1up cabs and/or those Deluxes at good price (say $349). But TVs are a way safer bet, aren't they?
So the other pinballs are $750 why not "blow those out for room" too? Couldn't this have to do with the atgames AFM coming out?
I'm guessing they will get blown out too - although clearly STAR WARS and Marvel are way bigger IPs then ATTACK FROM MARS, so likely those cabs move at least marginally faster. I doubt AG's new pinball means much to Best Buy - they don't carry them and the ALP 4K isn't even out yet. But I suppose it's possible!
Simpsons was a blow but NFL Blitz did damage to A1Up. Licenses too expensive and producing gimped or poorly produced cabs?
In end, they had to spend too much and make too many cabs to ever make it worth their while. If they really made 20,000 cabs, that's was an awful risk (esp when using a neutered rom); a risk that does not seem to have paid off. People seem fairly ready to spend $3-400 on a good cab, but $650 is an automatic no for a lot of people, regardless of title.

Hey JDV can you ask @games if they will try and improve the flipper latency from 116ms to 60-80?
Oh I'm sure they're doing the best they can on that front. I never noticed any lag in the HD ALP, but then again I am very old and like adult beverages....
I think once the tables get out into people's hands we'll know more.
Calling $300 fir big blue a deal is laughable, that should be its base price seeing as it has inferior sticks and pcb compared to the newer SF titles.
Well should be and actually are two different things. Most A1up cabs should be $299-399. But Big Blue's MSRP is $599, so half off. And half off is a fire sale. Meh - it must have (finally) been priced right, b/c it sold out immediately.
@@evilgeniusentertainment i have no problem with a new cab being 499 with the improvements they made but these old 1s they should put them all around 299 to flush them.
