I tried to cover all the bases without being an hour long video, but of course there's so many things to talk about. If there's anything you'd specifically like me to do a follow up video on, let me know!
Thanks for the honest review. If this comes out later reskinned with a more popular title I want I would pick it up.
Thank you! I try to be as fair as possible. I think some people have been overly negative about this pin - hopefully my perspective is helpful. And I agree with you, I can't wait to see what the other titles will be coming down the line, ST:TNG in particular....
If you have time to discuss the tables in alil more detail, I find the magic pixel tables based on real zac stuff and some deluxes quite good, did you get access to more than the included tables? I have 140. Also how do the haptics compare to your self built vpin?
Carlo - just came with the included tables; I bought SNOOPY so I could check it out. Oh, don't get me wrong, I do like some of the MP tables (I'm actually very fond of NAUTILUS and LAST ICE AGE). The haptics compare surprisingly well, considering I'm running 4 amps and 9 separate speakers - that bass thumper on the 4KP has me thinking I need one too (I just run those puck-thingys for bass). At this point, you can't assign specific sounds (like bumpers) to specific speakers like you can in VPX, but I'm hoping in the future we can.
I would watch an hour long video on my phone while doing cable management under my desk. Don't shy away from longer content 😅. I got the Addams 4kp with SSF, just waiting for support to help fix my machine so I can play it. Hope it won't take months. Long wait times for their support currently.
I love mine, and if they get all the software issues worked out, it's a no-brainer. The hardware is pretty much there. I use mine mostly for OTG and there are some other quirks on that side, but more updates are coming and I have confidence they'll get it sorted out eventually.
That pretty much sums it up! I can totally understand those wanting to wait until all the kinks are worked out, or until a skin they like better comes out, but it really is the only show in town at this price point. It's much better then I was expecting.
Excellent and comprehensive review of the Legends Pinball 4KP! Definitely appreciate your insight and presentation, very well-done JDV.
Thank you Jon! I highly encourage anyone wanting to know more about the 4KP to check out Jon's channel - his install & instructional videos are among the best you'll ever see on any subject.
Was waiting for this ! Great review
Thanks for watching it! Hopefully it was worth the wait! I'll have some more 4KP videos out next week....
If you ordered one of these at the original pre-order price, you got a tremendous value. I've got mine set up for OTG, and the 4k screen really makes the tables pop. I absolutely love it.
Absolutely - if you got this for that $1099 price you were straight up robbing AtGames. Kicking myself that I didn't buy in at that price. But even at full price, there's nothing else on the planet that touches it. If they can tighten up a couple of software issues (primarily the delay on AF), the sky's the limit for this machine.
You can't beat this machine for the price, especially for what you get. I have one with the SSF kit installed and it really is like you're playing a real pinball machine. I absolutely love it!
And that's the God's honest truth - at this price point, it's all alone. It's not perfect, and pinball freaks like myself will want a bigger screen eventually. It's already a very good machine, and it will only get better as time goes by. Firmware fixes, more games, more add-ons, 3rd party art kits - it's got a boatload of potential.
Looks Great!! Your arcade shack is looking Awesome! I love how tall this is, awesome review 👊
Thanks brother! I'm glad you liked it! I was shocked at how good it looks in person. Totally legit form factor. I'm a little over 6'1" and I didn't even need to extend the little foot things at the bottom of the (much nice) legs. Very comfortable to play right out of the box. It'd look mighty nice in your arcade!
The minor increase in height of the new machine versus the old one makes it feel so much better.
@@darthdorkimusprime7231 Tons better. Without even extending them, out of the box it feels nice (I'm 6'1"). Huge improvement
EG reviews are always my favorite
(blushes) Aw thanks! That means a lot to me - thank you for watching!
Love this! I would love to see more reviews like this! Hopefully other manufactures would send you things like this to review.
Thank you brother - I really appreciate all the support you've shown the channel! I try to calls 'em like I sees 'em!
Great review 👍
Thank you man - obviously, I love your videos!
I dig it! Nice review. You always shoot straight. Thanks brother!
Thanks Skidz! I appreciate that!
Gotta say you do the best reviews, even drawing attention to the dire Magic Pixel games. Keep up the the honest reviews.
Thanks you Sir!
Great review ! Can’t wait for my 4K ALP to arrive
Thanks! I think you'll really like it.
You are absolutely right about the "sound" making things "look" better. There are all sorts of audible and visual tricks to make the experience feel more authentic. Heck, I swapped out a ball image on a VPX table I am working on and now it feels heavier!
I did opt for keeping my own (non-cabinet) setup for now, but upgraded my failing backglass monitor for a 43" 4k TV from Walmart for $176. I rotated it vertically and hid part of it so that it is now essentially a 1:1 screen. I thought it would look stupid, but it is amazing!
I think for the price this is a great deal. Had I just got into this hobby, I would have bought it for sure.
Hey thanks Paul! Sound is so incredibly important to Vpin - more important in many ways then even graphics are. Send me some pics of your rig; You got me intrigued about a 1 to 1 setup. And great point about this machine being a great way to jump into the hobby - this machine so far ahead of what was available 2-3 years ago.... heck, even last month!
Hot fast and nasty all the way! Great line! I do have to say that Addam's Family looks better to me over OTG in Pinball FX than this stock verison, but that SSF kit is a must have. This is a huge upgrade over the HD table. Great review, always a fan of your content!
Liked that line huh? Tee hee! No doubt that the VPX or Steam version looks better, BUT I was still surprised at how good the stock table did look. More importantly (to me anyway) is that it played buttery smooth, which I was not expecting. If they can iron out that delay, it will be a fantastic way for ADDAMS FAMILY fans to play the game. I do agree about the leader boards - if there was a way to connect them all, it would be absolutely sweet.
@@evilgeniusentertainment that first update made Addams Family much better, it was sluggish before and flipper lag was worse.
Yeah, I never even tried playing it w/o the firmware update. Hope they can totally eliminate lag soon!
Great job. You are one of my faves! Keep it up.
Thanks Ron! I truly appreciate the kind words!
Great review JDV! Hoping we get a STTNG branded cab. If so, then I’ll be buying one. Haven’t decided whether I’ll keep my HD version at this point or not.
Thanks Mike! I think they announced a ST:TNG cab already, and yeah, I think it'll be amazing. ST:TNG one of those games I never could get to run right on VPX (I can't get the call outs to work), so it'd be sweet to finally play a proper version. Gotta be honest with you, the HD ALP can't touch this new 4K version. Once you play it, you'll never look at the HD version again....
Great content! Thanks for these videos. I preordered the Peanuts Snoopy 4k Machine the first day preorders were available for it. Have you heard when the Peanuts machine and the other variants may start shipping? Thanks!
I’ve ordered the Peanuts machine as well - with SSF kit installed. Based on shipping calendar, final payment will be end of April which means I’m looking at early May for delivery. Bummer!
Hey thanks Michael - I do what I can! I don't, but I'll ask! I do know that AtGames does have ADDAMS FAMILY in stock in the US at this point, so hopefully PEANUTS not far behind.
This thing looks sweet. I do wish the software could run FX tables better. Having Zen with tournaments is cool, but since the software isnt the same it isnt cross platform like the steam version. The screen looks nice on camera too. Would love to hear the ssf in person. Thinking about getting a kit for my cab
Now I'm a pinball freak, so maybe I'm not the right guy to ask, but I wouldn't dream of getting this without the SSF kit. Surround sound so important to vpin; adds so much to the realism. I should have a SSF kit specific video up soon (still gotta shoot some more b-roll).
Yeah, people often proclaim VPX as superior to Zen, but I love Zen studios for the challenges and tournaments. They both get a lot of play from me.
VPX tables - particularly the newest ones from 2022/2023 - do tend to look more realistic. The newest physics are just a bit better as well. BUT, the Zen tables play very smoothly, do not have some of the bad ROMS some of even the newest VPX tables have, and as you mention have those leaderboards. And of course those graphic add-ons, like scoring and animations are sweet too. I wasn't kidding when I said that I like ADDAMS FAMILY more on the 4KP then on VPX (even though VPX does look better). Nice to have options!
Great Review! Accurate & fair.
Thanks Matt - I always try to be fair in my reviews. No product is perfect, but in the context of the rest of the market and just how hard it is to build one from scratch, there really isn't anything else quite like the 4KP. AtGames has done a heck of job with ADDAMS FAMILY.
Great review 👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you! I do what I can....
Yeah, I agree with your review. If they can iron out the software issues and lag this will be a great machine. I love mine!
Been really enjoying your videos! If you guys get a chance, check out Arcadetalk's channel - he's got a ton of content on the 4KP.
@@evilgeniusentertainmentThank you! I appreciate that shout out.
You got it man! Keep 'em coming!
I think it’s an excellent machine that will get better with time. There are flipper lag and ball traveling issues on the two Zen tables, but I believe they will eventually fix them. Also keep in mind that we should be getting an average of a table a week in order to add all the FX tables that should be available! This will be the gift that keeps on giving!
Great points Steve. That's what I was trying to say; that we're still on the ground floor of this machine; that it will only get better. And it's already untouchable for the price. Can't wait for those Gottlieb tables....
Been waiting for the verdict from the Evil Genius.
That means a lot to me, truly. Hope it was worth the wait!
Beautifully done review. But I think I'm gonna stick with my A1U Marvel pinball.
Thanks for the kind words! Hey, if it's making you happy, def stick & stay! Have you tried adding the other 20 games to your A1up via the hack?
Well done 👍👍👍👍
Thank you Sir! Thanks for supporting the channel too!
It' looks great. I'm jealous of those who have one. I just bought an OLED TV, though. I'm pretty much tapped out for the next year when it comes to money to spend on electronics.
Oh yeah, those OLEDs are not cheap. I was hoping for some pretty big price drops this year, but nothing so far. Save your pennies and try to snag one at NOD sale - they'll only get better over time!
A- is a fair review in my opinion. Well dome as always.
Thank you Papa Brad! You've done some awesome videos on ADDAMS FAMILY, really enjoyed them!
@@evilgeniusentertainment Thank you. I love your channel and I always watch your videos. Great content. Very high production values. I am just kind of an average Joe. OTG is this machines hidden super power.
Thank you kindly Brad! You're absolutely right about OTG - really incredible it even has that option. I mean it took about 5 minutes to set it all up. Unbelievably smooth... Plug in HDMI/USB cord, turn on pinball machine & PC, map buttons on machine w/joy-to-key, start FX3, hit start button. Literally that easy.
I've had mine for a couple of weeks no and im very impressed with what it is. Perfect? No. I don't regret my purchase so im a happy camper so far
Good to hear Mitchel! People expecting perfection - particularly in a brand new product that is literally unique - is a bit silly. It's a sweet machine all things considered.
I'm in when they do the TNG skin!
That's a dream pin for a lot of people - it's also a game that for whatever reason I can't find a good version of for VPX - so yeah, I'm excited to see what it looks like when it comes out!
I think for the price this thing is incredible. Especially at the early bird price I got the 4k ALP, SSF KIT and SSF KIT install for. The discount was great. I use mine for OTG only. I love everything about it except 2 things. The DMD is too small so I just use it as a 2 screen setup like I did the HD ALP. Also as of right now the control panel doesn't work in OTG mode, I really hope they fix that. All in all I really love this machine though. The biggest reason I wanted it was the playfield looks so much better than the HD ALP. That's the only big gripe I had with the HD ALP.
For sure - that $1099 intro price was insane. The new play field is leaps and bounds better then the HD version. I so rarely look at the DMD, that it doesn't bug me, but I can see them offering a bigger DMD as an upgrade down the line.
@@evilgeniusentertainment Yeah that price was amazing and it even came with a light up topper.
Also from what I remember the solenoids options are either on or off - you could not change how loud they are ? Am I wrong please tell me cause at night they are loud
I'm fairly certain that AG re-enabled the "medium" setting for the solenoids with the new firmware update. I never checked it, because I like 'em loud. I'll double check tonight to make sure!
My comments disappeared!
Wasn't me brother, I swear!
I don't know how people are playing Addam's Family with that lag. I have the machine and it's definitely awesome, don't get me wrong, but I can't play the game I bought it for. I'm certain they'll fix it though.
And hey, you me and Eleanor Roosevelt have the same interests! lol
That Eleanor really loved her pinball! People have told me the gold-leaf buttons really do help cut down on the lag until they do get it fixed if you're desperate. I also find a couple of adult beverages help....
I could honestly never recommend to anyone buying an A1Up pinball arcade. Those things are the worst. Sorry not sorry. Waiting for my AFM from Atgames.
Oh I understand - I wouldn't either. BUT if you're a very casual fan of pinball, and just wanted something small for your arcade (and you could find it cheap - say $300 or less), I could see picking one up. But no, the A1up can't touch the 4KP.
I found a non-working AFM Arcade 1up cab on FB for $100. Ended up being a bad PCB. I ordered the Intec mod on Amazon. It’s my kids favorite machine and the Nintendo Switch is a big improvement over the stock graphics plus you also get online play.
I also have the 4KP. That’s mostly my machine and I’ve got FX, FX3, and M pinball working. Next is vpx.
Did I miss the Tron mod content? Or it's still coming (sorry for off topic question)
Ha, Jay I'm sorry man, it's been a crazy month! But yes, it should be up soon!
Love my ❤ Addams Family... not perfect, but especially since I got the 1st presale discount. Since it is new, I'm hoping that, like all the video games we get today , optimization will continue. When you do your OTG, how is PC monitor setup since it makes it 4 monitors instead of 3 (the family PC is not dedicated to just run Addams Family)
The 4KP has 3 HDMI inputs, so you can fill each of the 3 screens. Now for my initial testing, I just used a small mini-PC that I had used for one of my older vpin builds. It actually only has 2 HDMI outs, so I just sent the back-glass video to the backbox (it's clearly marked) and re-positioned it in FX3 ( a pain in the butt, but not terribly difficult). In my other high-end 4K build, I only run 3 screens. I know there's 4 screen builds out there, but 3 (or even 2 in the case of FX3) is enough for me. Hopefully shooting a dedicated OTG video next week....
@evilgeniusentertainment I have HDMI cables on the 3 screens for Addams Family. I think guess I could unplug my main computer monitor so the computer only sees the three screens on the pinball when I'm trying to set them up. My main monitor, being the 4th, kept screwing me in the setup, and then again, I'm doing this while sick, and it's hard to think straight might also be the problem.
Can you control the color, brightness, sharpness like a TV? I think the older hd pinball doesn't allow that.
Calvin, at this point I don't think you can. That said, I never even though about changing anything it because I though it looked good right out of the box. You can change the brightness levels on the games (morning/day/evening) like you can in the HD ALP, but I'm pretty sure you can adjust gamma or brightness (at least not yet).
We all know that TV or Monitor doesn't lasts a life time so my question is... if the screen goes out what then? Will the screen be easy to replace or no? Are they able to send us a replaceable screen for it? What is the warranties for the pinball machine 4KP? How much will the screen costs if warranty is out? Just some few thoughts and concerns I have about this system. Hopefully you'll be able to help me solve the answers for this? Thanks for all do you.
Good questions... that I don't have an answer for! It's essentially a brand new product, so who knows about longevity or if, down the line, getting a replacement screen will be possible. But based on the ALU/ALP - both of which are still running strong - I'd guess it'd be quite a while before it went belly up. I'd actually guess that the PCB would burnout before the monitor did, as it's the part that works hardest....
Just opened mine today. Top screen was a jittery mess, reseated cable and now just shows colors, highly disappointed, but it's AtGames.....ticket in of course. 1-Star pinball experience so far.
Jagged edged on the Magic Pixel 4K games? That's concerning. Think they would of figured that out
Yeah, even more so because you can't change perspective. Does feel a bit lazy. The good news however is that ADDAMS was significantly better looking,
Can you physically nudge on these? Or is it just a button you push?
You can do both! It's got an accelerometer, so it def reacts when you nudge.
What's the pc specs on your homemade pinball?
I'm running an HP Omen 25L with a nVidia 3060 GPU, 64 gb ram.
@@evilgeniusentertainment thank you sir
Not really apples to apples though, since need at least $900 for a decent PC to run smooth low latency 60fps 4K pinball and a lot of better tables, than the constrained, inferior ATGames options. Normalized it would be $3,000. If the shipping was not so darn high from Australia, the cost is not that far off for a superior product that would need zero OTG set up.
Xtreme Pinball tables - and all the other manufactures - run on on VPX/VP. Plenty of people want nothing to do with trying to figure all that out. For an all-in-one solution, where you flick one switch and are playing a couple of minutes later, this can literally not be beat. That you can also run VPX via OTG is just icing on the cake.
@@evilgeniusentertainment All of the VP cabs from reputable providers are plug and play. No set up, unless you want to sign in for auto table updates and new media. BTW, I've seen the 4K and do not agree that AF looks anywhere as good as the FP and VPSX versions. Respectfully, not even close. Added: Still plan on getting a 4K if offered at a retailer. Love my HD and have a PC and VP set-up for it.
I love mine but otg hdmi 1 audio has to be re - selected every time I go from one program to another - also the lag on Addams family still isn’t good .. comparing those tables to org vpx is ridiculous- lmao - also I’m not certain why but I like your videos but they always look like they aren’t bright enough ?
Gee, I think my video are TOO bright! I mean, who wants to look at my mug under a bright light! And I don't know, I think ADDAMS FAMILY has more "flow" on this pin then my VPX version. Of course the VPX version looks more real, but play value is always king... and I do think they'll fix that lag. They pretty much have to, don't they?
@@evilgeniusentertainment funny your mug - and I think they will fix it also
:)
is the flipper lag permanent or was it a bug?
Well, that's the $64,000 question, isn't it?
I'm hoping/expecting it to be resolved, but whatever's causing it isn't an easy fix, or you'd think it would have happened already. At least that it's how it seems to me. Remember the lag's not there on the other tables, so I'm guessing it's because ADDAMS FAMILY is a tough pin to recreate virtually - but that's only a guess.
Really wanted to buy an attack from mars. Decided to just get a transforming screen from buystuff, lg c3 42" and pinone controller from cleaveland software instead to go for a similar pricepoint, since I am going to use Pinball FX and VPX anyways. It's a real shame about the AtGAmes 4k, on paper it sounds perfect, but the hardware isn't powerful enough and I do not see how it will ever run it's stock tables at 4k well enough.
You know, I thought the same thing about the hardware, but the games ran buttery smooth. Lag aside (and this is not the first Zen table to exhibit lag), I was borderline amazed at how smooth ADDAMS FAMILY ran. And that's one of the tougher pins to replicate virtually. You'd think those older Gottlieb's will run even better. What I wonder is if these tables will get the same sort of updates that we see for VPX and Future Pinball. Hopefully, they do!
Still pretty disappointed that the flag ship game AF is still laggy after a month of its release.
Oh for sure, but realistically I do expect it to be fixed sooner then later. And I still think it's blast to play - but I do get crushed in multi-ball mode. I'm very interested in seeing how those Gottlieb tables play.
You can get a better Chinese knockoff version for that price.
