Thanks for the great review! I may have to move some things around the living room to make room for it. Will likely have to wait until after the holidays, since I already shilled out for multiple expenses, including the Pong pub table and countercade.

Great review Bee, cool how it's both you and the Mrs 😁. It does seem like the majority of the community complains about the Tron gameplay. I'm with you, if you delve into this game deeper than the first couple of levels, there's a fair amount of strategy and challenge to be had. Plus, I'm a fan of the 'futuristic' colors/graphics/sounds. My Tron is scheduled to be delivered this coming Tuesday (thanks Home Deopt!), cannot wait!

That's because the majority of "the community" don't ever really know what the heck they're talking about. Most judge the games base on whatever hack emulation job they play on, whether it be the PS3/360 releases or mame, coinops or whatever byog on the AtGames Legends machines. Most admit to never even played these games in the arcades in their original control schemes, so what does that say about how to take their opinions?? I've always known these were great arcade games, right up there with the Atari Star Wars games because I was there to play these back in 82 and 83 and know how these games were meant to be played. Arcade1up captured that perfectly with this release, despite not having everything 100% (no background art, voice overs, etc.) but the core experience they hit out of the park. If anything, Kong's take here should represent anyone's perspective who's trying these games out for the first time playing them the way they were meant to be played. Great job Arcade1up, 👏 👍
Great job 🐝 I let Fomo get the beat of me and bought this cab and I am actually so very glad I did. Love the gameplay, love the cabinet especially where I am recreating a arcade using 1ups in my basement. Sorry about your gpabel. The way Mrs. kongs r us handled the flight stick makes this a little NSFW

Bravo Kong on speaking to the depth and range of challenging gameplay these games have. Folks on TH-cam sure like to jump on the bandwagon and roll with the naysayers without ever considering checking things out for themselves and gathering their own fresh perspectives. These games, with the unique control schemes are really fun and enjoyable to play, which at the end of the day is what anyone should want out of an arcade game. Aside from that, you also get the incredibly challenging gameplay in Tron and in Discs of Tron, the amazing opponent A.I. which, for 1983, was way ahead if its time. When you get to stage 6 on up, the intesity reaches near fighting game levels of competitiveness.
Great games, fantastic cab from Arcade1up, one of the top cabs in my home arcade at this point and fantastic review Kong!👌
Thanks Rick! I do think there was definitely some themes about people saying the games are bad. I'm glad I have it a chance to play using the correct controls which makes a huge difference

@@KongsRUs only problem for me is that the max number of cabs I can fit currently is 7 full size A1Up and 3 single player countercades. And I’m at 5 cabs and 1 countercade. So trying to be a little more selective.
@@OfficeArcade I know you didn't ask, but because I have over 30 (and counting 😄) home arcades I'm going to offer some educated advice: In regards to the best 1up has to offer, Tron and BigBlue are the best built (I know you already have big blue) cabs they've done yet. Tron, is an even better build than the Big Blue and leans more towards having a real arcade machine in your house. The games emulation and controls are spot-on with the original arcade and Discs of Tron, plays with the intensity of a fighting game and holds the same sort of replay value (vs the computer, as there's no 2 player vs mode) - the computer A.I. is quite impressive and challenging.
If you're into 80s era arcades, Tron is the best Arcade1up next to Atari Star Wars you could have (even over Tempest which is also fantastic with 12 games). Also I would mention that out of the Bandai Namco cabs, Class of 81 is easily the best due to not only the wifi leader boards and games list, but also because it has the most responsive controls and best emulation of those games on any 1up. Also, that cab (FINALLY) has the best audio mix I've heard of those 3.5 inch speakers. So if you like 80s arcades and have limited space, Tron and Class of 81 are not only your best bet but they are also 2 of the best arcades Arcade1up has ever released. If I could only fit 7 cabs, judging from the 30 plus arcades I already own I'd narrow it down to these:
1. TRON - Best built home arcade yet, near arcade-perfect cab and emulation, unique controls, Wi-Fi leaderboards present unlimited replay value, audio mixed well for 3.5 speakers.
2. SF II CE Big Blue - near arcade-perfect cab and emulation, Wi-Fi leaderboards present unlimited replay value, 12 games.
3. Class of 81 - near arcade-perfect cab and emulation, Wi-Fi leaderboards present unlimited replay value, audio mixed well for 3.5 speakers, 12 games.
4. Atari Star Wars - near arcade-perfect cab and emulation, unique controls, audio mixed well for 3.5 speakers.
5. Outrun stand-up - near arcade-perfect cab and emulation, unique controls, audio mixed well for 3.5 speakers, 5 games.
6. Golden Axe: RODA - near arcade-perfect cab and emulation, 5 games, best of the 4 player cabs for these reasons.
7. iiRcade - near arcade-perfect emulation, unlimited games, best of the multicade at home arcade offerings.
Aside from these, over the countercades, I would recommend any of the 4 recent partycades offered on QVC, or if only countercades, then any of their 5-game countercades (I have each of these counter and partycades and they're all a steal at their current selling price).

Great review . Please def do a Mod tutorial. I may not even mod mine but it's fun to watch. Thanks for the S panel update , thats def a must . I was going to do something like that to my tempest front panel to flip between different 70s and 80s images but got lazy . I think I'll go all the way and set it up digitally on the tron though.

What I remember most about this game playing it when I was younger was the sound. And this review doesn't say a whit about the speakers or the sound. That in itself leads me to think the sound isn't up to par with the original cabinet. If the sound was as good as I remember it, I can't imagine a reviewer not mentioning it.
Nice review Bee - interested in seeing where you land on keeping modded or returning to stock Going to miss seeing you climb the leaderboards (I'm saecrow). Quick question, at the 14.:25 mark, the front end shows Space Paranoids. I don't have any experience with Launchbox/BigBox, so any info you can provide pointing me to that setup that contains Space Paranoids would be much appreciated (tried searching for LaunchBox Space Paranoids / BigBox Space Paranoids but couldn't find anyting). I do have it on a computer using Unity Web Player, but would love to see / know more about how they have it running through that front end. Thanks!

Those custom Tron games are PC based, so don't think there is a pi3 version. Thanks for watching!

I just picked up Tron today (off facebook market place). SUPER impressed with it, quick question for you. Is there a deck protector that comes with it and if there is does it have special lines on it to help with the black light or is it all clear?

Never played this game. Was worried I might have FOMO watching this, but I don’t. I’ve never seen Tron and the game is before my time, because I would have been like 1 or 2 when this came out. That being said, cosmetically it looks dope. If I was rich or had space, sure. This video though is very well put together. 5 stars.
Yeah it was definitely before my time, but I dunno why i was drawn to owning this cab. It was fun learning to play it tho!
Gen Xer. Looks awesome. You guys missed out…hard for me to 😂assess how well it has aged, but I sunk a lot of quarters in this machine when it was cutting edge. Still my favorite Arcade game with a close second to StarTrek.
Since GRS spinner works when plugged into the USB port, wonder if other USB spinners will work. Curious if Groovy Game Gear's TurboTwist High Low Push-Pull spinner would work. Know the push/pull may not work, but the microswitches look to be more accessible to where you could wire the buttons to the encoder.

Wish they included the background on discs
Hope they might consider it In a future update, but would require adding image code to the game, whereas the original DOT was played with the image overlayed. Might not be something that's feasible, but hope they they consider it!
Did you remove the film from *both* sides of the playfield plexiglass? That might help with that hair.
You know, when i first checked, it was stuck on the graphic pretty well. But I've since been able to clean it off, so it's all good now!
In the arcade, I enjoyed Discs of Tron way more than Tron. DoT was way easier for me and I could play it way longer.
Great review, just sad to see how much is still missing or that needs to be modified to "complete" the original look and feel (missing panel, missing coin door, cracked plexi, pealing art, etc.). Regardless of how cool it is, we shouldn't be getting $700 cabinets that need work.
Haha!!! The peeling art and cracked plexi helped make it more authentic 😆. Even tho these cabs are getting more expensive, it's still more economical and cheaper than finding a real Tron cab in decent shape
@@KongsRUs This is true. But at the end of the day, you're left with a half-assed Arcade1Up that will never accrue in value, while a real cabinet will always be worth something. And that's all the more reason you should be getting better value for your A1U money!
Anyway to get the voice samples into discs of tron that are missing from the game ? The environmental version had them. Maybe arcade 1up will do a firmware upgrade.
Maybe a future update could add it, would be cool if they can incorporate it. But not sure if it's a high enough of a fix to get it programmed and added

Is there away to mod this where you could have a slider switch or something to have it boot with original hardware on power up one way and the other way have it boot modded? Therefore having the best of both worlds? Online leaderboard and more games?
Would need a PCB type mod to make that work, wouldn't work with PC due to controls think

That is an odd choice to not put a coin door on this unit. I didn't even notice during the live build, but I was too busy watching the cone a lingus mode

How do you scroll down the leaderboards fast ? I like to see how many people are on it and it goes super slow .

@@KongsRUs whoever is in touch with John D should suggest it as an update , it makes all the difference to see how many people are on the leaderboard and scrolling down takes so much time so when there are many more it will just take too long ! I want to know if I am 100th out of 500 or 5000 ! Fast scrolling leaderboard update ? It can start slowly like it does now , but holding it down for more than 5 seconds and it goes fast ? Or a page down scrolling option ? I’m completely obsessed with high scores to the point where I would never buy a cab that did not save high scores .

The spinner on my Tron cabinet is garbage for $700. The four spinners on my pong table are way better and even the spinner on my asteroids party cade is better, wtf?
It's because it has to combine Push/pull functionality so it's a brand new design. Agree it is pretty cheap feeling, but it works
