Very well said. I just feel like he woke up one morning and decided to make me a car. Its just a shame that instead of the car loosing value and being passed down to people such as myself its going to go up and up in price and move further out of my reach.
+Andre Tennis I agree & also believe he's interesting because he's not playing the fake corporate, conservative robotic image. ( Like when I watched the calculated, clinical & fake & boring as hell 2017 NSX release)
You can tell Porsche still truly cares about enthusiasts... It's what has kept them together thus far. People have been asking for a manual transmission GT3 or GT3 RS of this generation and while this is not exactly that, it may even be better. A manual transmission GT3 RS with less downforce which probably means more oversteer. I still have faith in you Porsche.. Continue to impress and you will continue to be respected as a leader in the automotive world.
+trevor philips its limited and already sold out. So No, most of true porsche customers will never get a 911 R. A lot of car dealers will buy it like they did with the GT3 and sell it for +50%.
Mr. Preuninger all I want to say is Thank You !!! To you and all the other people who made the 911 R possible. Cars like this make the world for driving enthusiasts an amazing place.
+Hugh Jayness I don't get it, why did you feel the urge to respond to my comment? I never stated whether their cars are good or bad. And even if they make the best cars in the Universe, that doesn't mean that we all have to like them.
As a 12 year old I rode in my uncles 911 SC targa down the California coastline. I was totally awestruck, and completely smitten for life. I once had the chance to afford a 914, but it was enough to say I owned a Porsche. Welcome.
I could listen to Andreas Preuninger all day long. The way he was describing the essence of driving enjoyment while sat in the car was like reading Evo itself. Great guy.
I absolutely LOVE how this guy talks, the passion he conveys keeps me hooked to this interview till the very end. He makes it utterly evident that they had quite a lot of passion-driven discussion going on about how to make this car the best and purest driving experience. It's impossible not to love Porsche...
He isn't actually selling the car because they are already sold out, so he's just taking the time to explain his love. I think he spends more time with it than his child. wouldn't we all?
Honestly every video that EVO posts with Andreas are reason enough to subscribe to this channel. The quality is so superb and the enthusiasm and passion about the product that they both share is so eloquently shown.
Thank you so much for listening to the Enthusiast driver Porsche. And Andreas is a diamond... Such a great guy. Shame they are already sold out and will only go up in value.
So this is basically a GT3 RS with a proper manual gearbox (like it should've been from the get-go), it doesn't adopt the current styling cues from the 991.2, it was already sold out the moment it became public and still Porsche managed to create all this frenzy. Man, their marketing team is good.
+João Soares Best part is, you don't even need to try very hard to market this type of car... lightweight, simple, manual trans RWD car with a good engine will ALWAYS be sold out, especially nowadays with the demise of these types of cars. If Ferrari made a manual RWD car (lets say 500 units) it would be sold out within one day. Same with Lamborghini, ec.
I personally think they have kept the old design because it is way simpler look at the 911 R. It would be easy for them to just put the newer lights and such since they have new parts anyways (what he said about cf)
I'm in love with that car. So pure and simple. Naturally the best 991 generation 911. And Andreas seems like a great chap to have a chat about cars, especially Porsches.
Wow, Some of the first words out of his mouth, "This is not a track car". Porsche has an amazing customer focus. This car is for the road going purists. Bravo Porsche, well done.
Andreas is what every mechanical engineer can ever wish to be. My dream is to be just like him. It's like his happiness radiates out through his projects. So much love for the cars. He is the most important man in the car world. He even mentions reading the forums. He essentially gathered the team, told them to make a list of what everyone of the cans wanted, and made it better and delivered!!! What a man! Thank you!!!!
Yes sir. Forget the pdk. Unless you are sponsored or racing every weekend I agree. Manual is the way to go. Hope they keep options such as this open in the future as well.
When people say German cars have no 'soul'. This car is dripping with it and i'm willing to bet no heading of engineering from Lambo can be as charismatic as this guy. Fantastic video.
+TheJoeMB I wouldn't necessary make a comparison. At the end Lamborghini is a sister company of Porsche nowadays. But you are right. The thing is here, that not your average career enthusiast designer/engineer is head of the development. Andreas Preuninger (and with him the whole team) are working for Porsche Rennsport - basically Porsche's division, which is responsible for Porsche race-cars: from the customer 911 GT-3R's to the 919 prototype or the 911 RSR (hybrid). These guys really love what they are doing - but more importantly REALLY know what they are doing!
Wow. That is the ultimate 911 in my opinion. Incredible. Love that you can hear how the engineer, Andreas Preuninger, is so enthusiastic about this car himself! Just wish they made more, even though I still can't afford it.
Andreas, you are 'The' beacon of hope in our "New Car World." But when your company decides this 991R will be built in such a limited run, have the 4.0 liter engine from the GT3RS, and ''Exclusively' use lightweight parts such as a magnesium roof, a perspex rear window, and carbon fiber front fenders and hood, this becomes an 'Elitist' car not a 'Purist' car. 911R? - well, yes, the '991R' is back, but it's sold out so how excited should I get? IF the 991.2 GTS is finally considered to be a 'GT car' as you would say.........then the next GTS 'should' be naturally aspirated, have rear wheel steering and similar bodywork 'shape' to this front and back, center lock wheels and as an option, hopefully, this 6 speed manual gearbox, no? I can hope but let's be realistic, ain't gunna happen because the next GTS will have the 3.0 liter turbo.........I'd love to be wrong about that!
There are only two things wrong with this car: the limited production run and the mix'n'match stripes. Oh, and the fact I don't have the money to buy one, but that's my problem... Edit: Oh wait, I've just noticed the gearbox is a 6-speed, not 7. Might it be from the old 997 RS 4.0? I doubt a Boxster/Cayman unit could withstand 500PS.
I just love these interviews with Preuninger. They're far and few between but easily some of the best automotive content out there. Just such a cool guy making incredible cars.
BMW you watching this? Your not cars are not even in the same league anymore. Porsche is striving for everything that makes drivers want to drive, feel, weight reduction etc. You can't horsepower your way to a great drivers car. Get to work and but quick...
You can see, hear and feel the love that this man has for this car, the car world need people like him.
exactly.
Very well said. I just feel like he woke up one morning and decided to make me a car.
Its just a shame that instead of the car loosing value and being passed down to people such as myself its going to go up and up in price and move further out of my reach.
yeah
+Andre Tennis I agree & also believe he's interesting because he's not playing the fake corporate, conservative robotic image. ( Like when I watched the calculated, clinical & fake & boring as hell 2017 NSX release)
+Andre Tennis couldn't agree with you more
You can tell Porsche still truly cares about enthusiasts...
"Change lane at 320 kph , sorry you can´t do it in England but we can in Germany ". Gotta love that German humor hahahahaha.
thank you Porsche for being an amazing car manufacturer and giving consumers what they want
+trevor philips its limited and already sold out. So No, most of true porsche customers will never get a 911 R. A lot of car dealers will buy it like they did with the GT3 and sell it for +50%.
And making me cry myself to sleep every night knowing I will never own one.
No bullshit buttons all over the steering wheel, just a 3-spoke wheel. Awesome.
I think they made this car for Chris Harris.
haha!
would not doubt it. 👍✌
+Benedocta let's hope he'll be the one testing it on the new Top gear!
+Benedocta He can afford one now with his new Top Gear dig
+Geardos lets hope he can!
I hope this car will become very successful so that other manufacturers also will recognise the demand for "pure" cars like this!
***** Hopefully yes.
+Hok I'm sure it's already sold out.
This is why I LOVE Porsche! Powerful. Classic. Emotive. A true DRIVERS car.
We need this mentality in cheaper cars as well.
BTW I love the steering wheel in this car.
^
+Alex Le What about it.
+darek4488 Totally Agree. Cars that come to mind are miata, subaru brz... well, that's it. But I agree, driving experience/feel versus SPEED.
+darek4488 fiesta st
trust me, Andreas reminded me of how the fiesta st is
very good point
Mr. Preuninger all I want to say is Thank You !!! To you and all the other people who made the 911 R possible. Cars like this make the world for driving enthusiasts an amazing place.
I had never been a Porsche fan, but after listening Andreas and seeing how much passion He and Porsche had put in to this machine - I am converted.
+Hugh Jayness I don't get it, why did you feel the urge to respond to my comment? I never stated whether their cars are good or bad. And even if they make the best cars in the Universe, that doesn't mean that we all have to like them.
drive one , own one, you'll never ever go back to any other car...
As a 12 year old I rode in my uncles 911 SC targa down the California coastline. I was totally awestruck, and completely smitten for life. I once had the chance to afford a 914, but it was enough to say I owned a Porsche. Welcome.
I can't stop smiling while listening to his explanation. Absolutely Magnificent!
Not only does he know Porsche's but he knows what true car guys want. Simply beautiful.
One in silver is probably stunning as it would bring out more of the lines and shape.
I could listen to Andreas Preuninger all day long. The way he was describing the essence of driving enjoyment while sat in the car was like reading Evo itself. Great guy.
The first car that will triple in value once it's driven off the lot.
I love Andreas, huge respect
"You can't do it in England, sorry. But we can do it in Germany"... Sick burn!
The 3/4 rear view remembers the older Porsches so much
manual gearbox, houndstooth seats, 500hp, N/A engine. I'm in love
forgot 1250kg!
+Nik Brudar I see your comments everywhere :)
Freimopp777 that means you keep your eyes open, well done!
Nik Brudar
Yeah it is you profil pic that reminds me. Dont change it!
Freimopp777 haha I might do so in future, but who knows.
"La simplicite est un art", and this car just embodies it!!!
Best car Porsche has made since the Carrera GT
I think that mr andreas should stay until the end of his career in porsche...........petrol heads love this man!!!
jim jimaco , yes he and Walter Rohl...
i love Porsche for the fact they do things as such. they're such an amazing company.
Just might be my favorite Porsche
Honestly every video that EVO posts with Andreas are reason enough to subscribe to this channel. The quality is so superb and the enthusiasm and passion about the product that they both share is so eloquently shown.
At 5:18 ...".We want to make a safe lane change at 320 KPH, you can't in England but we can in Germany" love that remark !
I don't think that I've ever wanted a car as much as this
I could listen to this brilliant man talk about cars all day long. Couldn't agree more with everything he says.
+o_O S2000 True that my friend.....I used to work with an mechanical engineer but he was so boring, at meetings we'll all be napping ;=)
I'm in love! I never liked wings on Porsches.
Thank you so much for listening to the Enthusiast driver Porsche. And Andreas is a diamond... Such a great guy.
Shame they are already sold out and will only go up in value.
Manual gearbox, light weight, big power.
Its always a winning formula for FUN!
Andreas Preuninger, I could listen to him talking about Porsche's all day.
Oh my god😍😍. I think everyone would jizz their pants. Probably why Porsche left it out
+anotherone10 It's like listening God talking
Hiring and retaining a lead engineer like him is why Porsche remains ahead of the pack
MY favorite car right now.
what a fantastic, honest and enthusiastic imterview that only EVO could secure.
OMG those seats!
The seats are straight fire
simplicity indeed. loving this
I love how retro it is, especially that interior trim.
I need this 911 R so badly!!
I would love to see a ducktail wing on it. I think it would fit perfectly.
+Enrico Palazzo You're forgetting the meaning of "pure"
+Enrico Palazzo The ducktail spoiler raises on the back
The original R didn't have one so they didn't put one on this I guess
Unfortunately, they now have electronic spoilers that go up and down. I agree and would prefer the old duck tail.
What are you guys talking about? Ducktail? Electronic spoilers? You dont need that in the 911R.
Gorgeous steering wheel
So this is basically a GT3 RS with a proper manual gearbox (like it should've been from the get-go), it doesn't adopt the current styling cues from the 991.2, it was already sold out the moment it became public and still Porsche managed to create all this frenzy. Man, their marketing team is good.
+João Soares One of the sanest comments around here!
+João Soares Best comment here
+João Soares Best part is, you don't even need to try very hard to market this type of car... lightweight, simple, manual trans RWD car with a good engine will ALWAYS be sold out, especially nowadays with the demise of these types of cars.
If Ferrari made a manual RWD car (lets say 500 units) it would be sold out within one day. Same with Lamborghini, ec.
+Beolex Beolex limited edition cars sell out, it has nothing to do with their Trans or if it's AWD or rwd, it's that it's a collectable
I personally think they have kept the old design because it is way simpler look at the 911 R. It would be easy for them to just put the newer lights and such since they have new parts anyways (what he said about cf)
Every time he says car, my heart melts
6:03 "Yes, I read that. Why should we make a car less competent grip-wise..." So German.
yes they do build the best cars after all....
+mtenzera1 Indeed they do! If my family and I had to drive only one company's cars for the rest of my life, it would be Porsche.
What a beautiful car and with the right gear box!!!
Andreas' passion really comes through this video... What a car guy, what a car! The best 911 yet?
valid point :)
Bravo to Porsche for making this car.
That was one damn nice explanation and review, kudos!
Such a great video. I'm sure we're all so thankful there are companies like Porsche. The way they thought about and executed this car is immaculate.
Good to see a big car maker saying "screw it we're making a manual only".
Just when I thought Porsche couldn't think up a winner, they come up with this! Absolutely stunning!
This 991R has Magnus Walker written all over it!
I'm in love with that car. So pure and simple. Naturally the best 991 generation 911. And Andreas seems like a great chap to have a chat about cars, especially Porsches.
Man this is perfect. Gimme gimme gimme
What an amazing interview! This is all Pure Porsche - OMG you can take my money anyday.
Wow, Some of the first words out of his mouth, "This is not a track car". Porsche has an amazing customer focus. This car is for the road going purists. Bravo Porsche, well done.
Absolutely gorgeous!!!
I have tears in my eyes...
Andreas is what every mechanical engineer can ever wish to be. My dream is to be just like him. It's like his happiness radiates out through his projects. So much love for the cars. 'Only available with manual...' shouldn't be any other :)
Yes sir. Forget the pdk. Unless you are sponsored or racing every weekend I agree. Manual is the way to go. Hope they keep options such as this open in the future as well.
Those seats are gorgeous. Beauty of a car. I love that manual gear boxes are making a comeback!
Porsche casually makes a beast amidst all the faux rage over their new turbos.
*golf claps*
I enjoyed every second of this the passion from both of them made this feel very emotional. This car is a dream and i love the seats omg.
That man is a hero
very informative, such an awesome car. makes me miss my 911. A very knowledgeable speaker.
screw it, I'm robbing a bank. who's with me?
Where do we meet.
i will be the gateaway driver lolz 👏👏👏. ✌
Mayn for robbing a bank there is nothing better than Audi S8 Plus trust me on this one
I could never tire of listening to Andreas talking about Porsches.
The only thing missing is a hydraulic steering.
Agree! Or just have manual steering... as someone suggested...
+Nik Brudar They talk about PURIST car and you go on about more electronics are you high? Hydraulic shit steeering can be on the lap times car..
+Steve Hash Hydraulics have nothing to do with electronics? It would have less electronics with hydraulic steering.
+Steve Hash you confused hydraulic for electric mate
+CinemaUnited no my bad i did`t explain.. I dont want anything on it that was my point.. It`s still a help assist. You talk about Servo system right?
Porsche i love you for going against the flow and creating a niche product. I want one soooo badly!
When people say German cars have no 'soul'. This car is dripping with it and i'm willing to bet no heading of engineering from Lambo can be as charismatic as this guy.
Fantastic video.
have you ever heard of a careers gt:? lol that thing is dripping with soul and character
+TheJoeMB I wouldn't necessary make a comparison. At the end Lamborghini is a sister company of Porsche nowadays.

that rear end!!!
Can't wait to see Chris Harris get ahold of this one. I only wish I could afford one.
I can never own own...But I love it!
I want it. I can't afford it, but I want it.
Wow. That is the ultimate 911 in my opinion. Incredible. Love that you can hear how the engineer, Andreas Preuninger, is so enthusiastic about this car himself! Just wish they made more, even though I still can't afford it.
991 cars built, so I guess it's already sold out?
Great car though, I love the components they picked. And that interiour is marvelous.
Ah, so you saw that, too. I thought so but was too lazy checking. Doesn't the evo guy say 991?
Those seats 😍😍😍😍😍
Andreas, you are 'The' beacon of hope in our "New Car World." But when your company decides this 991R will be built in such a limited run, have the 4.0 liter engine from the GT3RS, and ''Exclusively' use lightweight parts such as a magnesium roof, a perspex rear window, and carbon fiber front fenders and hood, this becomes an 'Elitist' car not a 'Purist' car. 911R? - well, yes, the '991R' is back, but it's sold out so how excited should I get? Great comment. Bravo sir
The passion in that mans voice...that must be one hell of a car. As a 911 fan, this really excites me.
I am a hardcore BMW fan, but I have to admit this might be the best car in the world! If I had the honor designing a car, this would be it. Period.
👍
this car is very far away from bmw, nothing common
+bebeto common when bmw produced natural asperated engine M cars
bebeto I never said it would?! Please read correctly.
Agree
I'm officially in love
There are only two things wrong with this car: the limited production run and the mix'n'match stripes.
Oh, and the fact I don't have the money to buy one, but that's my problem...
Edit: Oh wait, I've just noticed the gearbox is a 6-speed, not 7. Might it be from the old 997 RS 4.0? I doubt a Boxster/Cayman unit could withstand 500PS.
I just love these interviews with Preuninger. They're far and few between but easily some of the best automotive content out there. Just such a cool guy making incredible cars.
Chris Harris would fucking melt if he drove this!
+Leopard95 With his new salary he could probably buy one.
Engideer You think he'll be good on Top Gear? Im a bit worried he might be out of his depth.
Leopard95 I think he'll be as good as he ever has been, but I do have my worries about the show as a whole.
Engideer Idk, hopefully he'll be that but yeah, I'm not confident about the show in general.
Porshe u did it again! Im in love just perfect!
It's like a Singer Porsche in a new 911 chassis.
the first 991 I really love!!
BMW you watching this? Your not cars are not even in the same league anymore. Porsche is striving for everything that makes drivers want to drive, feel, weight reduction etc. You can't horsepower your way to a great drivers car. Get to work and but quick...
+Michael Adair PORSCHE AND BMW WERE NEVER IN THE SAME LEAGUE !
+PAKA757 touché !
+PAKA757 BMW didn't try to be either.
+Michael Adair PREACH!!!!!
AMEN!
My perfect car. Well done!

'it's like your favourite pair of jeans, everything falls into place the package everything' haha
I would literally sell my soul to the Devil for this car... what a machine this is going to be!!
I love it.
Oh another "pure" 911.. How amazing is that...
+Ömür Sarıaslan so good I just bought a 987 Cayman! ;)
+MagicAyrtonforever Not sure if you are the one who don't get the irony or I am.
I love this car!
the stripes have no business on this beauty
agreed
Apart from its historical significance ofcourse
+theo raptis you can order it without stripes, it's optional
+theo raptis "the stripes have no business on this beauty". Shows your ignorance
