i think 991 gt3 is one of the most successful gt3.... i love this car more than any~~ the noise it make, the engine and the transmission. it is the perfect combination.. and for me, it is an piece of art!!!
Sergio Inzunza I drove it yesterday (no bullshit). OMFG dude ... u just cannot have an idea until you try it...it's 10x more amazing than what Jethero presented in even this supreme video...
They are all good cars, but there is something Porches that makes them such an special sport car, this GT3 is nothing but a beauty in every sense... GT3 all the way.. 470 + HP's out of a 3.8 liter normal aspirated engine is sweet.. :-)
I don't know folks. This may just take the title of the BEST of the BEST of car reviews. Long, detailed, clear, precise and with a reviewer that obviously has a lot of passion. This is a good one. Bravo Evo !!!!
I'm personally not a massive Porsche fan, but this GT3 really caught my attention, that PDK box swaps gears seamlessly. Sounds fantastic too! Great review EVO as usual.
It is not that difficult to get to drive a Porsche 911. I do not own one but have driven different variation on numerous occasions. The GTR is impressive for price but it is not at the same level as the 911 GT3 it is not even in the game to be honest.
sw1000xg Who gives a f*ck if the GTR is faster. This isn't the drag strip.GTR is a full step below a GT3 RS in every regard. It may be faster with it's awd and launch control but when/if the Nissan Engineers get their 90s swag back and make a manual for the GTR then get back to me. I guarantee you most enthusiast would rather have an R34 over the current GTR which is loads faster in stock form, so does that make the R34 Superior? Why would you compare an awd automatic to a 6speed rwd car? If you wanna compare Nissan and Porsche we can do that compare the 370z with 3.7 liters 350hp Nismo edition again this is Nissan's race spec and compare it to the 3.8 GT3 RS 1st gen which was 435hp or compare it to the 2nd gen 997 Gt3RS which was 3.8 liters 450hp or compare it to the 4.0 GT3 RS which was 500hp. All naturally aspirated!!! Enough said since you're all about straight line speed. If you think the GTR is that awesome I guarantee you that the GTR head to head against it's real competitors Carrera Gt,GT2 RS, or even the 918 Spyder has no chance..CASE CLOSED!
I tried to imagine my own car making that noise, then I couldn't help but also imagine the sound of the tow truck hauling it to the shop for a new engine afterwards.
I don't know why, but I have never liked porsche 911, never driven one (almost got my license), but recently, like over the last 2 weeks, iv almost become obsessed haha, bit confusing, 997 911, 991 911, 4s, 2s.. Gt2, gt3 etc, but I'm enjoying watching every video I can find on them, and damn, I want one :p
Jack Thorpe Each of those cars you named offer different characteristics. GT cars tend to be track like and the GT RS are full on track like. You could pick up a Porsche Cayman for about £10,000 second hand. And they are an amazing light weight Porsche.
Duke V. Carlsen if I can find a reasonable priced 997.2 GT2 RS i would take it. But the new 991 GT2 is about to come out in a couple of years. should I wait for that one and try to get it or just find a prev gen GT2
I was thinking the same thing, he's going at 9/10ths around this track but at the the same time calmly explaining and reviewing the cars as if he was cruising down to the shops.
Since i was a young kid, a time when the 993; the last of the air-cooled 911's were getting around, i have had an obsession with the Porsche 911. This new 991 is no exception. One day, one day i will sit behind that centered tacho. A man can only dream
I keep coming back to this video just for the Alps part. That scene and the music and video makes it feel like a love letter to the motor car. It even made me start to fall for the Nissan GTR lol. And even more in love with the GT3.
vivalaphill Absolutely not that is just disgusting. Porsche have a unique special sound why would you want to destroy it. That is like putting Andrea Bocelli voice through auto-tune.
a true sportscar, PDK or not. Thank you Porsche for still making such excellent cars where driver involvement take precedence over power and tech... and Evo, been following the mag for almost 8 years now. Glad that ol' Bovington is back...
No! They said it is faster than the pdk but i think they talked about the normal pdk from the carrera. The one in the gt3 Is an optimized version of the standard pdk. Even if it would be faster than the normal pdk the pdk still would be the best gearbox. It is not only about the shifting times.
Astounding. The best road going sports car in the world hands down for the money. Just wow Porsche. Wow. To be able to offer this in your VERY FIRST go-at-it with the new mandates of automated transmissions, engine-sharing, efficiency (elec steering), much better noise dampening (road/tire roar into the cabin in the 991 vs 997) etc, is just astonishing. And FYI guys don't forget this is a PRE-PRODUCTION example that Jethro tried out. I am floored.
This is unbelievable and i am wondering how Porsche is able to make SUCH good cars. I mean... everybody who knows how unbelievable fast a MP4 - 12c is, knows what it means to beat it with a car that has 150 bhp less. As if this is not enough, Porsche still has so much room to breathe... imagine how fast the RS versions + the Gt2 will go round a track. Simply amazing!
***** 2 sports cars made differently but made for the same purpose...nothing pointless about that....It would be pointless to compare the GT3 to a Nissan quest mini van though
I almost forgot, some of the best camera-work/cinematography I've seen in a car video in a long time. Don't think people don't notice the wonderful job you guys do, cause I certainly do!
Oh boy... Too many GTR lovers here. Obviously they are watching the GT3 video. Why? No more comments from me. Let me guess you guys are Obama voters as well.
I guess what they said is true about living in a bubble. I'm pretty sure one is allowed to vote for Obama and like the GTR or GT3. I'd choose the GT3 over a GTR without any hesitation, but to go as far as saying it's related to voting for Obama. You must be one of the idiots that voted for Romney then. Do you like pick up trucks too? (see what I did there? I used your logical way of thinking, it's stupid right?)
One of the best videos I've seen. This guy is one of the best, and he is a good driver, it's one of the most important things in an opinion about cars like this.
I'm am so sick and tired of the GTR's and their fanboys. It's a turd that can go real fast, however it will never be a real sport car. It lacks engineering, heritage, and it's so ugly!
You Obviously know Jack about the GTR. Lacks engineering? The GTR set the benchmark with its engineering from launch in 2007. Ever since, Ferrari, Porsche and Mclaren ect have now all turned to similar if not the same gizmos the GTR was originally slated for. Heritage? The GTR has been around since 1970's and has raced and won world championships all over the world, from Rally to Super GT, LaMans, GT3 and recently Champions in the GT1 Series. Oh Nismo has just moved the goal posts again with the fastest lap of the Ring of a production car also which HAS sent shock waves through the car industry. As for not being a real sports car, i agree. Truth is, its one of the best Supercars and your entire post just goes to show how far from the truth you actually are.
Sick and tired of GT-R fanboys? Yes we all are. Their fanboys are annoying little gits? Yes, possibly the most annoying of them all, even after taking Corvette fanboys into consideration. But let's not go out on a limb and say it lack engineering. That's just downright ignorant.
ewt415 There is nothing wrong with being a fanboy of any car. Ive owned 5 R35 GTR's and im now waiting for my Nismo to arrive in September, so ill give my opinions based on love & experience on the car. We should all give credit where credit is due & being honest, i think the Gtr deserves every bit of credit it receives, not just from Fanboys but from manufactures & journalists world wide even from Evo, Chris Harris in social media through to J Clarkson petrolhead entertainer.
TetraRage No, of course there isn't anything wrong with being a fanboy. But that does not change the fact that your generic GT-R fanboy, is in a word, annoying. On every Porsche, Corvette, Ferrari video, you will find them blatantly ignoring everything good about those cars, and simply stating, the GT-R is king, the GT-R is the best. The GT-R is great, but it has acquired a following of immature pre-teens who pretend like they know anything, and arrogant young adults who think they can beat anything and everything on the road. THAT is the problem with GT-R fanboys. That's not to say fans of other cars don't include such people, but it is especially obvious that GT-R fanboys are largely made-up of such people, which is unfortunate because it gives ALL GT-R fans a bad image.
The Prelude had 4WS in 1987. It was a mechanical system that was geared so it turned the same direction as the front wheels for the first part of the turn and then went the opposite direction as more lock was applied. It was the first mass produced system. Mazda then fitted an electronic 4WS system in their 626 in 1988, MX6 in 1989 and 929 in 1991. It was an electronic system that at low speeds turned the rear wheels in the opposite direction and the same direction at higher speeds.
WOW! Amazing cinematography, chilling music in background. Seriously, I'd watch it just for the car, scenery, car sounds, and the music. But it has to be said - review is professional. I like how Mr. Jethro talks about the car. It's professionally calm, slow but not boring. I still had a feeling that the video is about the car not about the reviewer having fun. Bravo! And dear Evo editors! Could you please post details on composer of those chilling tracks in the background?
Nuno, RWS has been around for a LONG time and has been mass produced in many vehicles. Honda, Mazda and Ford for example used it a lot in the 80s/90s over multiple models (Prelude, 626/929/Telstar). There are also many cars out there with a passive rear wheel steer where the geometry and rear suspension bushes etc allow toe changes under differing loads on the rear wheel. Don't forget that the 12C has 'brake steer' where it will brake the inside rear wheel slightly in a corner helping it turn.
I really wasnt expecting much from this after seeing the Chris Harris review and he usually ticks all the boxes, but I must say I was pleasantly surprised, fantastic job EVO. I dont think I have ever wanted a car so much in my life. EPIC
another excellent video from jethro, you always manage to convey the power/speed/excitement of driving a high performance car in a simple way that you almost feel/wish your driving the car yourself without getting lost in any technical mumbo jumbo/one of the best/if not the best testers on evo/keep up the great work my man!
EVO doesn't upload as often as other channels but if videos like this keep getting produced they will be watched every time by me. Nice job EVO this was an excellent review.
I wish these journalists would not be so hesitant to say that the pdk is just not as fun on the road as a three pedal setup. We all know it's faster and has a place on the track, but it's just not the same. I drove the new Cayman S with the pdk and would hands down take a manual, so it's a shame it's no longer offered in Porsche's most driver oriented car. That being said great review.
Well shot, edited and good constructive real world comparisons. One of EVOs better videos, Id watch again just for the backdrops on the road test section - Epic
It's not about a manual having an advantage as such (although they are lighter and easier to package). It's about having more of an emotional, analogue connection to the machine, knowing that not everyone can do a perfectly executed heel and toe downshift and the feeling of mastery that comes with it. Also, a manual gearbox will a lot cheaper to repair than a dual clutch.
apart from the obviously brilliant gt3, i must say the evo videos are getting better and better in production standards, this can easily rival the best car related shows on tv both the camera and editing work as well as the presentation
Fantastic review. Jethro is brillant, great sound (car + music), amazing images... EVO as a TH-cam channel is becoming better and better. Keep doing this awesome work, I love it !
Amazing, the power and smooth delivery they managed to squeeze from such a "small" engine. 470bhp from 3.8 and NA. Wow, just wow. Each time a Porsche comes out I think, "now theyve done it, theres practically nowhere left to go, nothing big to improve". Every time a new model comes out im in the wrong.
I completely agree. Even in the review, they were saying that one of the key points of the 911 was the weight distribution, steering feel and the challenge it presents to the driver... This 991 ditches the 63/37 distribution, ditches hydraulic steering and ditches the manual gearbox. Porsche, I am disappoint.
you are absolutely correct Johnny, i don't think the 911 can possibly stand a chance against the McLaren on the hill road. The McLaren's suspension is way more complicated and intelligent. And about the GTR, where can you have the maximum fun with it beside the tracks.
I've driven my friend's S2000. It's pretty fantastic in terms of drive. I wish it had a 6 speed gate. I was having troubles finding gears. Mind you I was taking it around a track. But umm, comparing it to my 911, they're really different. The 911 is ass heavy and tries to kill the driver. It keeps you absolutely on edge all the time and it's thrilling in that sense.
Outstanding review .. Harris got there first .. but Evo took their time and surpassed him .. the car looks epic, i love it in red ( guards red I think ) .. Definitely the benchmark for GT3 reviews .. hell best car review I have seen on here period .. appropriate to the machine I guess.
Fantastic video with relevant cars against the GT3. Porsche once again the giant killer of the sports car world. This has always been the case since the beggining.
Originally - way way back - the car model number was just another Porsche project number (in numerical order); thus the 356 was actually project #356. The beloved 911 was actually project #901 and the car was originally to be called that but Peugeot (a much bigger car company) already had a car badged the 901 and would have (successfully) sued, so Porsche added a digit to make it the 911. The four-cylinder variant was the 912, then the mid-engine was the 914, etc.
Well, my Tiptronic S (predecessor of PDK) is not a dual clutch and very often I wish I could drive a manual with a clutch myself. You are so much more in control about every aspect of the car and more immersed in the driving experience. Sadly resale value would be lower in this area of the world, so I drive autos. Recently drove a Focus ST and really loved it. Mostly because of the manual gearbox.
"Tramlining" means that the steering provides enough feedback from the road to the extent that the car will follow groves in the road. This in an EPS is unheard of prior to the 991 GT3's steering.
couldn't agree more... earlier i didn't like porsches, was more of the ferrari / lambo lover, but since the 997 and especially the 991 looks sooooo unbelievably good *_*
I actually love the styling of 911s more than any other manufacture, they just seem elegant in a really reserved way.
I have no idea why, but, for me, there is something about the GT3 that is so special, that I at times actually crave it more than the 918 hyper-car...
Maybe because this car is just the PERFECTION of what can be done. Who needs more than 500hp, turbos etc...?
i think 991 gt3 is one of the most successful gt3.... i love this car more than any~~ the noise it make, the engine and the transmission. it is the perfect combination.. and for me, it is an piece of art!!!
preach it!
This dude's a good reviewer.
No he isnt.
@@abhirmalhotra5103did u even watch the video?
911 GT3 above any other car any day of the week.
God Damn it I'm in love again! When will Porsche ever stop!
Never I hope :D

It may not be a fashion accessory in the sense of a 458, McLaren 12C, Audi R8 or the new Lambo Huracan but it's still looks the part.
I don't know folks. This may just take the title of the BEST of the BEST of car reviews. Long, detailed, clear, precise and with a reviewer that obviously has a lot of passion. This is a good one.
Bravo Evo !!!!
So happy about Learning english in school, so I can understand this great review:)
keep at it, english will, especially on the internet, open up another world for you :)
it’s the opposite for me 😂
Sounds like an F1 car at high revs.
I'm personally not a massive Porsche fan, but this GT3 really caught my attention, that PDK box swaps gears seamlessly. Sounds fantastic too! Great review EVO as usual.
Closing in on 1 million views now. The very best review of the 991 GT3.

Unless you own or will buy this car or any of its competitors I don't see why people argue so much about it.
It is not that difficult to get to drive a Porsche 911. I do not own one but have driven different variation on numerous occasions.
The GTR is impressive for price but it is not at the same level as the 911 GT3 it is not even in the game to be honest.

harlemkiid149 Hey, you see my first comment? ya.....that
Agreed...I'd take this car over the Mclaren or GTR anyday...For some it's about emotion and the senses, not numbers or facts.
evo meekz I wonder if the 991 GT3 RS will come with a manual? My guess would be yes.
One of the most well thought-out 911 vs GTR arguments I've read on TH-cam.
How the fuck is the 991 an almost 7 year old car?
Man time flies.. 2013 was like yesterday, and it's gone.
I’ve watched this review 20 times now! Truly a classic.
Gt2 or mp12
The sound of the new GT3 is amazing especially with the quick PDK
You absolutely nailed this video! I still think the 12C would do severe damage to the GT3 on a more open track with equal rubber.
It sounds so fucking angry in the last 1000 revs.....fucking hell i wan't one.
I tried to imagine my own car making that noise, then I couldn't help but also imagine the sound of the tow truck hauling it to the shop for a new engine afterwards.
This video had the most beautiful landscapes I've seen in any car review video.
Hats off to the videographers and the man who color graded this.

It looks LIGHT YEARS better than the Turbo.
8 years on and I still want this car so badly.. The engine is just 🎵🎵
This is my favorite Porsche! Gt3's are so sexy.
I was thinking the same thing, he's going at 9/10ths around this track but at the the same time calmly explaining and reviewing the cars as if he was cruising down to the shops.

sure, GTR only beat all 2008 cars

another excellent video from jethro, you always manage to convey the power/speed/excitement of driving a high performance car in a simple way that you almost feel/wish your driving the car yourself without getting lost in any technical mumbo jumbo/one of the best/if not the best testers on evo/keep up the great work my man!
phenomenal video, f-ing phenomenal. The scenery for some of those shots was breathtaking. Such a beautifully shot video.
6:45 the scenery is epic, almost as good as that DFI Flat six screaming to 9k,what's the name of the soundtrack?
Well shot, edited and good constructive real world comparisons. One of EVOs better videos, Id watch again just for the backdrops on the road test section - Epic
EVO chooses the most beautiful roads in the world! Love it
It's not about a manual having an advantage as such (although they are lighter and easier to package). It's about having more of an emotional, analogue connection to the machine, knowing that not everyone can do a perfectly executed heel and toe downshift and the feeling of mastery that comes with it. Also, a manual gearbox will a lot cheaper to repair than a dual clutch.
The Turbo 911 used in Bad Boys was my favorite for years. It has officially been replaced: GT3 This thing looks and sounds incredible.
these are my 3 favorite cars..GT3, McLaren and GTR. This video is everything.
apart from the obviously brilliant gt3, i must say the evo videos are getting better and better in production standards, this can easily rival the best car related shows on tv both the camera and editing work as well as the presentation
All top notch. Don't recall anyone ever doing THAT with the back end of a GT-R before...
Unbelievably and utterly amazing. Wish I can get my hands on the wheel. Gee whiz GT3. Dream wheels
The cinematography in this review is outstanding. Loved all of it.
Good to see you back Jethro (for Evo) a great video, many thanks and keep them coming!
A truly amazing review. You can sense the passion and joy this guy has to still be driving a proper GT3. Epic review.
One of the best reviews ever! You did justice to the Porsche GT3 name. Congrats..
Great review, great car. Enjoyed every single second of this video!
Great review and I love the Austrian Alps. Such a amazing experience to drive there.
Good to see you back Jethro, keep up the absolutely fantastic reviews!
Great comparison of the 991 GT3 with the 997 GT3. I have to agree with Jethro in terms of the qualms he has with the 991 GT3.
you are absolutely correct Johnny, i don't think the 911 can possibly stand a chance against the McLaren on the hill road. The McLaren's suspension is way more complicated and intelligent. And about the GTR, where can you have the maximum fun with it beside the tracks.
Incredible review Jethro. It's great that you were able to compare it to the 12c and the GTR.
What an absolutely stunning vehicle. Well done Evo Mag too for another proper review!
Love the British car reviews! Love the GT3, the reviewer and the great scenery in the review :)
This is one of the best reviews I've ever seen. And of course one dream of a car.
11:25 you guys gotta make a wallpaper or a poster on that shot its the most amazing shot ever!!!!
There's a lot of Porsches I ignore but there's also one of my dream cars like this one.
Great review!
Beautifully shot, edited, and presented!
The video would have been outstanding even with a lesser car. Kudos to EVO and Jethro.
what a great review - almost 13 min of pure adrenalin! definitly will watch this over and over again:-)
Intelligent, honest, and comprehensive review of a great car. Superb job Jethro. Many thanks!
I need one...
Still can't believe it's only the GT3,the RS is going to be a bombshell
Well, my Tiptronic S (predecessor of PDK) is not a dual clutch and very often I wish I could drive a manual with a clutch myself. You are so much more in control about every aspect of the car and more immersed in the driving experience. Sadly resale value would be lower in this area of the world, so I drive autos. Recently drove a Focus ST and really loved it. Mostly because of the manual gearbox.
Especially the shot at 11:04 . That is just epic!
Exactly. And you get 4 seats and a decent boot. Plus the awesome launch control gimmick.
0:54 tailswhip soooo smooooth. was amaZing like butter in the pan!
