That’s my old car, I was the first owner and is still my favourite car ever owned. The GT2 RS for me was too much for the UK roads. The new GT3 is simply stunning but the 911R is for me still the best Porsche I have ever owned and should have held on to her. I did over 6000 miles in the car and loved every minute.
Thanks for the comments Rob… I too loved every mile driving it….. Sublime feel and handling felt very alive … a true Porsche classic… 2RS very different but not driven one… the current owner had a 2RS before the R…. 👍
Correction ... 911R has 8600 rpm redline ... GT3 Touring has the epic .2 engine to 9000 rpm ; ) ... 911R such a wonderful rare Porsche and retro ethos !! Great video
@@DrivingVenture come to Nova Scotia and drive & video mine ... look up Cape Breton Highlands ... mine is -50 lbs lighter than 911R if both with PCM and AC .... lightest spec , PCCB’s, buckets, Xenon’s, Antigravity lithium battery -34lbs , full Dundon headers and intake -35lbs, door pulls, RS polycarbonate rear window -6 lbs, BBS FIR -26lbs unsprung weight ... more punch in mid range and tighter setup with lower 8mm and corner balanced
Nice video. I’ve had an R since new and it’s my dream car. I fall in love with it each time I drive it. Joy in your hands......say no more. Sadly I think the car arrived at peak resentment of ‘allocation’ issues. As such, I think it’s looked at through less appreciative eyes than otherwise may have been. So many like to talk it down, like the value is what is the be all and end all. Which of course it isn’t. Anyone who drives this car, wants one. That is what matters. I paid 136k, I would have paid whatever I had to get one. I can’t say that about RS’ and all the others. This is just different. It has the X factor.
Great video 😃 the ironic thing with limited number cars is that they are mileage sensitive. So however great they are, there owners will always be worried about driving them in case they devalue them. So most of them will spend there lives in storage ☹️
Lots of sense spoken there.... if your the first owner perhaps less important.... but these cars are made to be enjoyed... it’s a shame some will only see a cover placed over them and never be driven....
If I had enough money, I'd drive one of these until it disintegrated underneath me, then rebuild it, and do it all over again. Collectability and depreciation be dammed.
Brilliant video. What a dream that car is, absolutely perfect. I'd be interested to hear the owners (I won't mention his name for his privacy) view on it versus his RS4.0 and especially his GT2, two limited edition 911s, both so so different. The 911R is such a special car and I'm sure will hold it's money incredible well
I had a 4.0 and an R for years. Eventually I sold the 4.0 as I realised it just didn’t do anything the R doesn’t do. The R is also a lot more discreet, it’s silver with no decals. My 4.0 had decals and looked like a race car. But I think what really made the decision for me over the years was how in the R, the front and rear just seemed in tune. With the 4.0, it never felt like the rear and front axle were as in tune. Maybe it’s the engine creeping forward generation by generation. I loved the 4.0, really loved it. The engine was a living breathing entity. It literally shook the car. The R does too, to a lesser degree. But ultimately the R just feels like an improvement. Which is it. It was their best effort at the time. Now with particulate filters, we’ve reached the peak of engineering and are now always going to have to work around regulations. Cars from about 2019 will suffer.
@@jamieorton6809 very interesting to hear your views on two lovely cars. Having spent limited time around the two and never having sat in one I'd probably agree the R is the best of the bunch. If it was my money I'd be tempted to go GT3T but there isn't a bad choice between them. Enjoy your wicked car :))
Black was not offered as standard on the 911R. Black, Lava Orange and Racing Yellow were Sonderfarbe colours offered for a very limited period of time. I’m referring to UK market at least.
911R is a joke.... interesting comment..... more expensive than a touring for good reason in my view... both great cars.... but as a friend who owned a Touring once told me.... as good as a touring is (yes alot cheaper) it will never be a 911R...
@@DrivingVenture if you read carefully, I also stated it's WONDERFUL. However, my humble opinion stays: it's not worth many hundreds when compared to the likes of a 991.2 GT3RS and Touring. I understand they've been trading for more than what Carrera GT have at some point, which again I think proves my point. Time will tell. Excuse my English, I'm Italian (and a Porsche owner, so no hate here whatsoever!). Thanks for your videos.
@@BubuBarong for value for money and price point the Touring is a great buy, but not a numbered car... the best price for an R was as the original/first owner .... the prices got silly for a while but the market seems to suggest a 911R is the more sought after car and still commanding high prices.... thanks for your commentd... I hope to drive a touring eventually
Think I get your point, if one looks at both Touring and R, from a subjective or financial standpoint. But I guess the R is more of emotional and sadly in some hands investments asset. For that reason I prefer the touring cos I want to drive. If I had money burning a hole in my pocket then the R, even then I’d still cane the hell out of it.

Does everyone have a ceramic Daytona on this channel? 😂😂😍😍
911 R has many similarities with ceramic Daytona of course.

What’s number 1? CGT? Or 4.0RS?

Ok my mistake....it must have been white or GT Silver only for the UK not sure colour to sample was offered for UK 🇬🇧 allocations...
Sorry that is wrong. In the UK the colours were indeed silver, black and white. I went for silver......

What a car!
Porsche is master at marketing. 😮 Less is more.
Is it just the sharkwerks exhaust tips?
No the rear silencer has been replaced
How was the gearing in this car - also tall in 2nd?
Didn’t notice it revs so quick with the single mass flywheel... the gearing was perfect for me👌
The gearing is short, it’s only long on Boxster and Cayman.
No heated seats. Is that to do with the houndstooth?
All 918 Buckets don’t offer heated option... the Houndstooth is just 911R specific 👌
You don’t get a cold bum in the R. If you, drop it down a gear and floor it. That’ll close your sphincter.
Were not all purchasers of a 918 offered a 911R at the same time ?
more of a USA policy I think...
This car is a joke. Wonderful, but a GT3 Touring is 95% the car at a fraction of the price.
