@Raijinwinks there's more info out there than that all the guys who build endurance racing subaru go to equal length along with alot of the other motorsports enigine builders
lol all these people replying are most likely people who never owned or ran UEL Headers on an FA engine. I owned a 18’ WRX and ran UEL headers from 40k miles to 87k miles. 12k of those miles my car wasn’t tuned for UEL Headers. Guess what?? Car ran fine!!! You just won’t get the “benefits” or “gains” of aftermarket headers without a tune and be down on power with these vs stock. On the FA20, UEL Headers tuned would get you right around what OEM Headers tuned would be at. However it seems on the FA24 you actually gain some power/torque with UEL vs stock when tuned. I have a theory that UEL headers, especially on the FA20 can be beneficial and maybe actually prevent engines from blowing up when tuned beyond 350whp/wtq. Theory goes, since the biggest cause of engine failure on the FA20 at 350+whp/wtq is rod failure from all the low end torque. Which is why tuners recommend you do pulls around 4000 rpm, and should avoid lugging the engine or applying a lot of load on the engine at lower RPM. UEL Headers on the FA20 pushes the torque a little more later in the RPM range so you’re not building as much torque in the lower rpm range. I believe this “con” is actually a hidden pro of running UEL on a tuned FA20, and why on the AVO FA20 turbo kit it comes with a slightly UEL Header instead of EL Headers.
