Is it a blj?
If yes: It was patched
If no: It wasn’t patched
The BLJ in SM64 on super Mario 3d all stars isn’t in it anymore

@@leannehand7059 it's because it runs the PAL version which doesn't have BLJ in the first place. It's an NTSCJ and NTSCA exclusive exploit

Sunshine is the one I could see being ran the most since it's basically the same as the original (minus one major rng skip and graphical differences). Plus with the camera settings being updated in the near future more GCN runners might switch to the all-stars version.
from what i’ve heard from the community they’re gonna stick with gc, but galaxy runners actually might switch over to all stars but i’m not exactly sure on that
@@SFan29 I am currently a Galaxy runner. The leaderboards are split because of loads and language advantage for 3DAS. WiiUVC is still the main platform

Sunshine is probably not going to be run in All Stars, the non analog shoulder buttons mess you up something fierce at least on a casual level.
Just a few inconsistencies/nitpicks with the Galaxy Segment
-Odme is mainly a Sunshine and Multi Mario Runner
-The Pointer isn’t only Bigger, but it seems to be able to grab starbits through some walls and floors
-Top runners will not use the Wii, as it is the slowest version. Most commonly, WiiU Virtual Console is used, as it saves about 60 seconds in loads (I think 60 at least).
-The Trick shown in Ghostly 1 is pretty irrelevant for high level runners, as they go for a new, more difficult trick called Boolean, which skips the boo powerup

Another thing is that the switch's usb controller ports bring a lot of control options for sunshine and 64 up to scratch with emulators, which being able to use a keyboard and mouse or some janky 10 dollar n64 usb controller.
Mario sunshine was my game back in my childhood, played it for so many hours. Never really considered speed running it though.
I'm so excited I'm gonna be able to play it again I keep almost throwing up when I remember

You can still get 1-star runs on Switch using the first-frame wall kick. However, that’s a frame-perfect trick, and you need to do it a lot.

Awesome video I don't know much about speed running but this is great and taught me a lot. Might have to speedrun sunshine now!!
While its not possible to use BLJ in the Shindou version of SM64, there are still a lot of other tricks and stuff that are possible, just means you can't do 0 Star or 16 Star. But given enough time, I think people will discover new tricks as they keep speedrunning the Shindou version to find ways to skip 30 Star Door and 70 Star door.
You could _technically_ do a 0 or 16 star run, but it would require performing first-frame walk kicks for a couple minutes.

@@legoboy7107But the problemas is that 16 star, by far the easiest categories In shindu is by far the hardest. Yet only TAs could beat it in SUB 8 aprox.
You now i new tho skip the infinty stare (it look easy) you need tho wallkik/jump tho the wall unte a surten point and BAM Mario go realy fast tho the hole

I had no idea about the fact that the nunchuck was a different spin. It blew my mind how luigis spins are reversed. I’ll definitely keep that in mind when I play galaxy again, although I feel like it’ll be hard to get used to shaking my left hand

For Super Mario Galaxy you can hold the jump button while spinning to go higher. Meaning the nunchuck spin is do-able on a pro controller when you spin without jump pressed down. I don't know if this feature was in the original but I wanted to point it out.

I grew up with galaxy on the wii, and I definitely don’t regret it, I got to replay Mario galaxy, which is almost an excuse to play it again, galaxy makes me feel MASS nostalgia. AND for the first time I got to get all 120 stars and I’m very proud, I was actually surprised they released these games just because I would only play them on the wii, at least I get to play Mario galaxy 2....

The shine circled at 6:32 isn't Gelato Beach episode 8; that is one of the secret shines. It appears Gelato Beach episode 8's shine has not been collected in that screenshot.

I remember! The 3ds port of Mario64! It was pretty much a new game, with four playable characters that have different physics and a unique mechanic for Yoshi

i can say about BLJ in short: BLJ was patched by an accident, changing Mario's backward speed. (in shindou)
After nintendo saw this glitches they said it would be ok to use newer versions.

I only played the ds version of sm64 so I was exited to try the blj on the switch but the one thing that nintendo had to patch was the most fun glitch of them all
To be fair, I'm probably gonna start learning to speed run Galaxy on the Switch version. I've played the game a ton as a kid and I'm excited to capitalize on my memories of the game to make a speed run out of it

I know people hate joycons in general because of drifting, but I didn't know they hated them for galaxy in particular. I grew up on galaxy and galaxy 2 (hence my pfp) and I think it's really weird to play with a controller that isn't 2 pieces. My left joycon stick moves by itself sometimes, but it stops when I move it. The only times I'm not moving mario is when the stick moving makes no difference, like during cutscenes and the star select screen.

TL;DR:
3D All-Stars uses the Japanese Rumble Pak (Shindou) Version a.k.a. v1.1 of SM64, which *patched out BLJs* by adding a negative speed cap.
Sunshine and Galaxy had no software revisions like that, so all glitches work.

Hey Lunatic, I have a question regarding 3D All Stars for Mario 64. Is speedrunning the 70 star and 120 star categories as viable as their original versions? What are some advantages and disadvantages of these two categories between both versions? Thanks and great video man. I`ve been interested in 3D Mario speedrunning for quite some time. :)
For 120 stars, some blj are used. In 70 stars it's banned. I'm no expert but the only category that looks viable on switch is 70 stars

Would have been way better if they had a speed run mode where you just pick a mission and try to beat it as fast as possible. With an online leaderboard, too. Really would have pushed this concept more.
