2017 MK7 GTI original owner here. Through my ownership, I have used two different sets of coilover. First was BC Racing BR’s. One of the front shocks seized after 40k miles of use (the shock body would not twist anymore). I replaced those with a set of ST XTA’s. After about 6k miles, one of the front shocks stopped compressing, and one of the rears started leaking. I bought both of these sets brand new. I honestly didn’t think either set improved the handling of the GTI much at all. It was just nicer having a firmer suspension feel, and lower stance, but the handling was so so tbh. After having such bad luck with both sets of my coilovers not lasting very long, and not being that impressed with the handling aspect, I decided to go back to OEM. I installed the OEM shocks back on, and tbh, I really enjoyed the softer feel. It handled well enough for my daily use. The problem was that I just hated the OEM high stance. So after using my OEM shocks for the last 30k miles (with zero issues), I decided, after doing a ton of research, that I was going to get lowering springs. After evaluating which brand of lowering spring I was going to get, I decided on EMD lowering spring (Emmanuel Designs). I was thinking VWR, but there were too many reviews of them being “too soft” and “bottoming out” often. So I bough the EMD springs, but I always knew I didn’t want to put them on my OEM shocks, just because in my head I thought that’s a lot of work to do, for my OEM shocks to eventually fail because they just aren’t made to withstand lowering springs for a long period of time. So I decided, after a lot of research, on Koni Yellow shocks. So I have those ordered, as well as brand new top mounts, bearings, bump stops, and hardware. I also ordered the 034 Motorsport rear sway bar. Will be putting this all together her in a couple weeks. I’m excited, and I honestly feel like this setup lowering springs + damper combo) will be the best way to go for this car.
My Mk7 is pure white also. I love the black wheels. Im in the market to replace my Austins with some that look more like yours. The black provides a good contrast with the pure white.
I’m reluctant to lower my MK7 GTI after my last experience with my MK6. I lowered it on VW Driver Gear springs (aka DG Springs) and paired them with Bilstein Tourings expecting an OEM+ ride. I don’t know if it was because the springs were for a 4-door TDI DSG which was heavier than my 2 door GTI DSG. But the ride was VERY stiff and unyielding to even small bumps and cracks in the road. If I remember correctly they were linear and not progressive like most springs. It handled great and didn’t bounce one bit but rode like granite. Maybe I’ll try VWR…
From the day I posted this vid till now, these still ride great. Def look into coilovers if you want a more capable track/aggressive street setup though
This fitment looks perfect to me. Personally this is how it should look from factory, but what can you do. I am not a fan anything lower than this. This is so perfect.
Your car looks amazing even though I'm an MK6 fanboy 😂. Man you sold me on these totally. I was thinking H&R or Eibach, but seriously reconsidering. I'm hoping I can get this same setup for my 2012. Also I think the black wheels look good, but hey have fun and show us silver! Cheers Bro from Cali.
I have these on my mk6 golf r along with the racingline shocks. Perfect oem+ setup. I had a pretty extreme suspension before that. It was so nice to drive once I put the vwr setup.
Perfect Fit. I installed racingline springs with stock shocks in my golf 1.4 tsi. I wanted to eliminate the 4x4 look of my golf. I just want a little lowering. Now I dont know if Bilstein B8 should be a good pair of shocks for these springs.
Beautiful ride and thanks for the video! I’m still trying to decide which springs to go with. After you video stronger lean towards the VWR. Did you add anything else aside from springs such as the Audi TT rear pads as some are doing to even out? The height you have is the look I’m going for. Only concern is will it be too low when loaded up with the family. Three kids and my wife. Thoughts would be appreciated.
Looks just like mine! Just got my H&R ones and cant wait for a warm weekend to get them and my flush kit put on. Great content man, you've earned a sub and an IG follow!
hi let me ask you a question i just received same springs for my RS3 8Y but they did not come with any shorter bump stops ? did you get your spriings with them? such as H&R springs which i had before they came with shorter bump stops so i wonder why racingline does not need them shorter thanks
Just binging your videos, finally, someone updating on 2019 GTI's You got yourself a sub, Is the ride quality still the same after all these months. I want to get springs for the cost since Bilstein Coilovers cost an arm and leg, but heard over time ride quality going to shit with springs
So far it’s the same. Stock shocks on lowered springs would get harsh over time but it all depends on the roads you drive and if you have constant passengers. These springs are a mild drop and should have shocks last longer than the more aggressive springs. Welcome to the channel!
@@n3tfury oh, it was a great ride, but there times I had to be extra careful when parking (front/rear parking curbs scrapping the exhaust or front bumper). I’d recommend going with a set of coilovers
I love my hankook ventus v12 evo2 for a daily tire.still has amazing traction in the rain and sticks like glue on a hot day.can’t really speak on snow driving.
Thanks for the video. Very helpful information👍🏻. I have a couple of questions for you. Are does wheels 18x17.5?? And also, do you get any rubbing with the 235 width tires? Thank you again!
@@JewelCity1 Thank you for the quick response. Much appreciated. Subscribed!!! If you don’t mind me asking. Did you have that wheel and tire setup on your car before you installed the VWR springs?? And if so, how did the car look? The reason I’m asking all these questions is because I want to install wheels and tires on my car, but I’m not interest in doing any type of suspension work since I don’t want to compromise the ride comfort of my vehicle. My fear is that the car will look “bad” if I throw aftermarket wheels on it without lowering it at the same time.
Is the 2018 gti S considered the mk7 or 7.5? Cause when i go on sites and look it up it tells me different things each time. So its lowkey confusing when looking for parts

B6 will work too. B8 vs B6 according to vw forums that have discussed this already. is that the "drop" difference

Glad I could help! Nothing else other than the springs installed for this look.
Great video..... Is your car with the DCC? With the dynamic absorbers?
Non-dcc
I went with the 034's for the same reason. Didn't want to go too low!
Smart move
Nice! I have VWRs as well. Receiving my Koni Special active struts and shocks tomorrow, should be a very nice pairing. Love your car!
Thank you! Enjoy those koni’s

Thank you sold me! Gonna take those one for my Mk 8 :)
I have neuspeed racing springs and it's about 2.2" drop all around. Definitely recommend them as well!
dont advertise those specs the 2.2 drop is only on the golfs not the GTI
Do you have ceramic on this one? Paint looks really good.

Car looks great. I have a mk8 arriving in a few days. Same color,
Did you upgrade the shock absorbers as well or just the springs? Stock shocks will not handle the drop for long, right?
Stock shocks will be fine unless you’re constantly riding with extra weight/passengers
Dope GTI, what wheel and tire setup you running?
VW wheels on PS4s
Hey can you send a link to where you got them?
are your wheels 18x8.5? love the colour combo with paint and wheel!
These are oem vw 18x7.5 and thanks I appreciate!
Did you replace with new bolts/nuts when installing the new springs?
Sick setup bro 🔥🔥 quick question how's the tires on the GTI I'm looking for new tires and exploring my options
There’s other brands that’ll give you good bang for buck but If you’ve got the budget, The Michelin’s are great for an all around daily.

No specific link but I’d say just look who’s got them on sale
Great video! RacingLine/VWR is awesome stuff!!
Thank you
Did VWR give a comfort for daily drive ?? I’m looking for lowered spring on my 7GTI with DCC
Perfect for daily driving. For DCC you might want to do “dcc relearn” since you’re changing the ride height
Hi.. Do you think whatever you have said in the video would apply to the Golf 6 GTI ?
What’s your exhaust set up? Nice car!!!
Aftermarket 3in dp, stock exhaust
What size springs are they?
Wondering if you are running the stock DCC electronic shocks and how it’s been so far.
This is a S-trim with no DCC
Es verdad que baja solo una pulgada el auto con estos resortes ?
Where did you get the headlights?
Perfect drop! Not too low…
nice bro! when is the next roll night?
It’s coming soon
Thank you! Those are the ones that I want.
Hopefully this gave you a good idea what ti expect.
Are you still liking the springs? I have heard over time the ride quality deteriorates. Have you have any issues?
These aren’t a super aggressive drop like other springs so ride quality is still there thankfully. Just enough to eliminate wheel gap

You still running these currently? If so how does it handle the cars current power
It’s holding on fine. If I tracked the car I would def go coilovers, but this gives a nice daily drive oem+ feel
Anybody has an experience with RacingLine shocks and OEM springs? Are they good enough if you can't afford Bilstein B6...

No dcc no bump stops

Mk7.5= 2018+
So how much can I expect to pay for a set of Golf R springs?
Depends if you buy new or used from someone
Are you running spacers with that setup
No spacers
If you put spacers with the 235 tires they rub?
Depends on the tire. Some run wider
Have you had any rubbing issues?
Zero

Yes

Stock charge pipes

Nope
