- Evinrude E-TEC has been outperforming 4 stroke engines for years, with more horse power and torque, with cleaner running quieter operation, and better fuel economy. Evinrude E-TEC requires no break-in period, no dealer scheduled maintenance for 3 years or 300 hours, and no oil changes - ever.

Evinrude is done now. Bit of a shame. Ive been running mine for about 14 years . Only one problem...the emm blew about 3 years ago. No other issues, so its been reliable.
Used to be OMC but wow we had 2 70 VROs and they lasted for years and we use them daily for years and years that's MADE IN USA now BRP they died out, I WOULD LOVE TO USE A MADE IN USA PRODUCT because that is money in another Americans pocket everytime it starts, I miss old school MADE IN USA 🇺🇸 products because they used to care for them, you see the pride in the products made so they are built to outlast your lifetime I miss that.
I was very disappointed when I saw they shut down Evinrude production. My preferred outboard is Evinrude so it is kinda sad they are done

I have a Larson Bowrider powered with a 150 etec and it is absolutely awesome
2 stroke for life.
I was so looking forward to buying my 1st evinrude! Gutted.
I have been an OMC owner since 1970. Very sad to see them go
Omc sold evinrude to brp in 2005 im pretty sure
Evinrude should have kept the 2 stroke and also offered 4 strokes sucks to see them go
When BRP took over OMC they had Suzuki make 4 stroke outboards which were sold under the Johnson name. They were only sold for 5 years before being discontinued. Keep in mind that the entire sales pitch of Evinrude was that they were two strokes.
Wish thay go back to making them
I've got a 89 black max and wouldnt swap for anything, but sad to see evinrude go. Im sure someone will buy the nameplate, but it wont be the same.
Yeah BRP made Evinrude the best with direct injection BRP or bust
Has anyone heard of an issue with the threads of the pump being bad right from the factory, am told they were overtightened and now not usuable. A dealer who is doing the 3 year warranty maintenance check advised me of this. Evinrude (2019) H.O. 150 HP.
I think if they redesigned the etec to improve reliability and durability they will have a very good product to offer.
They redesigned with the G2 7 years ago so probably not and reliability is stellar plus durability is fantastic since they are bullet proof
@@aaron-fauth Nope.
@@prevost8686yep
Bullet proof don't think so
Its 2020 and evinrude is no more
bring back 2 strokes!
This hasn't aged well for Evinrude. We all benefit from the competition, but if this engine does it all, where is it today.
Poor business management. While evinrude was spending money designing a great motor, Mercury and Yamaha was getting contracts with boat manufacturers. My dad ran a johnson for years up until he sold the boat. Very disappointed that they went out of business
The other makes were getting with Japan to build their motors for them.
Hope it back in 4 stroke Evinrude G4.
Just not gonna happen with BRP it plus it would be a G3
Sad they quit making the etec
Unfair it’s a 4 stroke mercury and a 2 stroke evinrude.. this would be fair 2 stroke outboard vs evinrude e-etc.
Evinrude was the only one left with 2 stroke direct injection. They were the best
@@aaron-fauth still 4 stroke vs 2 stroke 2 stroke wins everyways
@@aaron-fauth nah there's the mercury optimaxes and hpdi yamaha
@@CaptYellow331 still wins in fuel efficiency
@@jokkeboi6270 so?
No more evinrude or Johnson it's a shame.but for reliability I would have to go with japanese
I’ve owned Yamaha and Mercury 4 strokes and running the Mercury 150 now. Both great motors…but so was the 150 e-tec on my wife’s deck boat. Senior management at BPM are the blame of the death of Johnson and Evenrude.
What prop
Saddly, Evinrude is done. Still run a 97 on my boat
EVINRUD TOP
Evinrude enjin powerful nice boy
I’ll still take my Merc any day
Not no more gone belly up!
Compare with the 150 optimax
rip e tec
1. You dont need to ruin a perfectly fine Mercury motor...
2. I don't doubt that a 2-stroke has a better torque than a 4-stroke, but usually US advertise is not to be trusted. A third party test would be much better.
3. The dumbest thing that has happened in the engine world the last decade is shutting down Evinrude. These motors where on the top 3 worldwide. Such a shame.
im in
Guess that’s why evinrude out of business
Well that's not Fair Evinrude competing a 2 stroke Evinrude VS a 4 stroke Mercury 150 it should be 2 stroke vs 2 stroke not 4 stroke vs 2 stroke that's WRONG.
you missed the whole point didnt you? Merc CLAIMES their 4 stroke had 2 stroke power, torque etc. How about the fact that etec was also quieter, better fuel econ0omy and better emissions? 4 stroke shoulda won all of that yet did not.
spitting oil on every revolution
EVINRUDE Obsolete by the times. Mercury is the winner.
They probably had to work on the engine After this video
They went so they went broke
Evinrude now is shoting down.... Who is the big winner??
It's none sense the way you talk about 2 trokes vs 4 strokes related to horse powers output
If OMC still owned Evinrude, I'd still see made in USA 🇺🇸 not made in Canada and they would still be in business today, EVINRUDE is supposed to be a USA product but since the Canadians started making them they lost value in the US market thus death of Evinrude 🤧
Love the Johnson Outboard so I am very disappointed that their legacy is just history now
Use just the optimax and evinrude is gone
Its really not a fair comparison 2 stroke vs 4. That would be different with Mercury 2 stroke!!
It is fair because mercury stopped making two strokes.
@@guccigang6287 back when this video was first made there was still new optimaxes and hpdi, also you can still get them
@@guccigang6287 And who stopped making outboards?
@@jamesglavich1426 and your 1 year too late
Evinrude couldn’t compete with Mercury and Yamaha 4 strokes. 2-Strokes were cool in their day but those days are gone. The new 4 strokes are awesome.
2 stroke is lighter no valve train..
It hits max hp 2000 rpms earlyer the mercury
Maybe cuz it has lessen hp
will never buy 2stroke
Evinrudecis a waste of money. Garbage brand. Mercury is the absolute winner
Mercs are more robust and durable, also last longer, also there 2 stroke dfi motors are monsters
With all the advertisement and bragging and all their love for their 2 strokes, evinrude is still out of business. Hey should have measured fuel mileage. 4 strokes beat 2 strokes every time.
Thats totally false. Etec uses way less gph. It's not carbs wide open wasting fuel.
@@mv7401 I agree with you friend, I am an independent mechanic in Brazil.
Carbs lol
That’s where your wrong lol research before you tell man
Okay have fun being left in the wash of etec, optimax and hpdi owners
sell it if it's that good, rubbish
For the same horsepower = 2 strokes or 4 strokes still produce the same horsepower = but 2 strokes consume more gas = 2 strokes has lower efficiency than 4 strokes
Evinrude has a higher efficiency rating
My Merc 175 Optimax 2 stroke burns less fuel than the new 175 Merc 4 stroke on the exact same boat. Not much, but it is slightly more fuel efficient. My 2 stroke is also faster by about 2 mph on top end.
Less moving parts
Advertising your product by unfair comparisons with other manufacturers and attacking them directly played a part in your downfall. No one disrespects well established competitors and expects people to buy your products. Whether weak/powerful or reliable/unreliable, etecs were doomed from the beginning.
Dude get real. Guess what? Some modern truck diesels are two stroke?
@@anthonyciarrocca2476 nah what he's saying is Evinrude is doing unfair comparisons with other competitors, and attacking them, just so people buy Evinrude etecs, which said people won't, either because they buy dfi 2 stroke outboards made by respectable manufacturers (Mercury, Yamaha) or because they like 4 strokes better.
