2 stroke technology is better for outboard engine. All the firms spend many money for four stroke engine, only one firm (evinrude) develop 2 stroke with successfull result. BRP wasn't enough develop dealers in every country. (In France for exemple). I hope evinrude will ne continued and develop more this technology. (My ficht 115 is a great engine).
Reynald Rc - Why Evinrude Failed: An autopsy of NMMA statistics: high HP (>200hp) outboard sales +80% since 2008. Outboards >300hp sales +18% from 2018 to 2019 alone. This is the only double digit growth segment of the outboard motor market for the past 20 years and Evinrude never got more than 11 percent of the market share. In the US, large pontoons and center consoles average HP increased 40% since 2008. In the coastal marine markets the BIG outboard CC completely took over the inboard market. Think BIG twins, triples, and quads. 2 strokes were favored in developing Countries like China and Brazil. 4 strokes were favored in developed Countries like Austr, New Zealand, the EU, Canada, and the US. In 2018, Mercury Marine contributed $2.61 Billion in revenues to Brunswick and was their biggest earner by far.
They are the best built outboards ever. People were blind they wanted to sacrifice power. With a 4 stroke. With 2 strokes you never ever sacrifice nothing ever. Evinrude did it right. Outboards are way easier to maintain than in boards. Never have to change the oil in a 2 strokes ever. No maintenance hardly ever. That's why I still have the old 2 strokes. Have had many other the last 30 years Johnson Evinrude and one mercury. I wouldn't wast my money on a 4 stroke ever. People want to be blind today.
@@jeffchapman1632 you can look around buy an older one if you can find the right older one number you are looking for. My dad and I took us probly 8 years before we found the 1969 Johnson 25 horse outboard.
@@dave216dx yes they have total agree tried myself to tell people but every body wanted the inboard it's quiter less noise. I have pulled my parents boat in off the lake with my old 1969 Johnson outboard 25 horsepower.
Me too, Gary Miller! I'm glad they have obviously been able to develop the 2 stroke engine to be less harmful to the environment. Surely a simpler engine would have less to go wrong and leave us stranded...out there. I have respect and appreciation for the ever increasing technology, yet back decades ago, my wise Dad remarked that with engine sophistication comes...more to go wrong.
yep, you are correct. I own a 250HO engine just the same as they tested at the end here and it guggles oil in large quanteties about 2%++, and its expensive also if one choose the OEM oil, its about 40-60$ a gallon and it adds about 10-20% on your gas bill. And the noice from the G2 is about doubble compared to an Mercury Verado 2007-2018 modells, i have driven both extensivley. The G2 positives is low weight and easy maintenance, but its not cheaper than example a Verado to run because of the added oil costs, best case scenario is that a G2 might cost the same as an Verado to run, but that is only if one run it few hours. If one run it for ex 500 hours in 5 years at moderate crusing like i do 28%trottle=28knots=31liters pr hour=310liters of oil=82gallon, that 2stroke oil would cost alone about 3690,-$ with the XD50, one can have at least 20 oil changes on a Verado for that price in these 5 years, so in the end the Evinrude G2 is not a great idea for those who actually use them a lot. I would rather choose a Verado (225-300hp) or 450r today, its half the noice and same hole shot and actually less hassle to own cause one dont need to fill for 100$ oil on the engine,, twice a month (=200$) as i do.

This is a great video. The best gets even better! Made right it Wisconsin where it all began.
How's "the best" outboard brand doing? Talk about a comment not aging well!

Bmw is wrong ? Should be Bavarian engine works
Another great American company goes under. I hope this isn't the end forever.
I hope so
T J I’ve heard Mercury has stepped in.
Canadian Owners made some really bad decisions ignoring the only growth segment in the outboard market - high horsepower offshore

awesome history . awesome brand
How do I get a G2 installed on a new Lund boat (Pro -V 2175)?
gerard haubert Yes I want a new Lund and I want an Evinrude Jet and Lund is not on there list.
She is gorgeous
I don’t understand. Why does it need to be washed.
All that technology and fancy equipment and they still went belly up. What a shame. I thought they were doing so well.
How do you connect steering for an auxiliary motor?
you need the steering kit. it's just a steering bar that connects to the big engine's assembly.
The Best money can buy.
ok what's the consensus on these being noisy??
ha ha
i love the sound but it is quiet
they are
The old evinrudes were so much better
For looks only
Yes. Got to love them vro pumps that fail and blow the powerheads
@@DMD81773 Nothing has changed E tecs blow powerheads right and left!
All I can hope is soon they release the G2 in less than 200hp motors
a 150 is around. I’d like everything down to say 135HO to be honest.
Just wait ;)

Can I get an E-etc in a Jet version ?

Surprised to see my boat of choice Lund is not on the Evinrude list, one of the best boats made.
LUND is a part of Brunswick corporation. And the Brunswick corporation's engine brand is Mercury.

It's right, but BRP will not cooperate with Brunswick's boat brand is true.

Who’s hear after they stopped making etech g2 and hoping they start to make a 4 stroke
Hoping for a 3-stroke.
Yeah, was disappointed to hear BRP is not going to make them anymore.
They did just stop making etech, they simply just stop made any future motors PERIOD!!!
