Google Nexus 6P After The Buzz: 2016 Has Been Tough | Pocketnow

  • Most new device launches go the same way: usually the press gets review units before they’re widely available, and we get to use them for a few days or a week if we’re lucky as we work on our review. Then press day arrives. The embargo on media coverage lifts, and everyone posts their reviews and videos at the same time. It’s a huge frenzy, commenters go nuts, and it’s a giant explosion of frantic opinion-sharing activity. For about … a day. And then it all goes away. Sure, there’s followup coverage as people find bugs and hidden features, but after that initial blast, not many people revisit the device to see how it feels a few months later, because everyone’s already focused on the next big deal coming down the pipe.
    So let’s do something about that. Let’s see how we feel about devices when they’re not shiny and new anymore. This is After The Buzz.
    --
    The Nexus 6P has marked my return to a pure Android Phone ever since my beloved Galaxy Nexus. Google got kind of lost in its plan to defy technology through a pure Google plan by going either too cheap and dated, or too expensive and large. 2015 was the year of choice for the Nexus, and before our crazy review season this year, the Nexus 6P was my phone of choice. Watch our latest episode of After The Buzz as we discuss how things have evolved.

      +OspreyBravo18 had my 6P since March 10 about 2/12 months great phone battery is solid camera is great and major upgrade over my. Nexus 6 camera wise. Every gripe I had when it comes to the nexus 6 was addressed in the 6P. Don't see myself upgrading anytime soon.

    • @Osprey1994
      @Osprey1994 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Theblackvortex75 I had a Iphone 5s prior to the 6p and I was looking at the note 5 but then a family member surprised me with the 6P before I bought it and oh my god... I find myself using it for youtube videos to much though and just draining the fuck out of my battery I'll spend the day just walking around watching videos as I go if I can and thats the thing I can start watching videos at 8am and be at 20-15% by the time I go to bed. Although there have been a few hiccups recently and it got really warm borderline hot one day but thats gone now. I still have problems with google maps or spotify transferring from wifi to lte smoothly and AT&T has been kind of hit or miss on the coverage as of late.

    Great review. Just wondering about something though. I see you have a theme on your Nexus 6P that makes it look like it has HTC Sense 4.0. Just wondering if that comes as a built in theme with the phone or if it's some kind of add-on and where I might be able to download it, if it's the latter.

    My question is this, what does the HTC 10 & GS7 do better than the Nexus 6P? It's unnoticeably "slower" and the camera is just about as good as the 2016 bunch. I'd say after 8 months, this phone isn't even close to "dated" yet. If this phone came out today it would be considered a pretty great phone.

    • @davidip8900
      @davidip8900 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      surely thats because the OEM's Google gets to make it's phones are releasing their own flagships around the time of the release of the SOC's, I doubt they'd want to build a phone to compete with their own flagship during it's release.

    About the screen size, I'm using the Nexus 6 as daily driver, coming from the iPhone 4s. Because the iPhone fits 3 times inside the Nexus 6, it was some getting used to, but after a few days it's all fine. I don't know how I will feel about going back to something smaller than 6 inches. Will it be better or worse? But the screen size isn't a problem for me after getting used to it.
    (The hardware of the N6 aged fast though, with here and there some System UI crashes etcetera)

    • @yummypie20
      @yummypie20 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Tristan Hoekstra stick to 5.7 in screens for your next phne. Those are normal big screens lol. He compared the 6p to the moto x pure and showed how smaller the pure looked compared to the 6p. its because the bezels on the moto are literally perfect. I have a moto and its not tough to reach anywhere on the screen

  • @Strikerage
    @Strikerage 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    For $300 less than most flagships, and the fact that the Nexus 5 was my previous phone for nearly 2 1/2 years, I'd say it's gonna last me a while. Funny thing is, the only real benefit I've seen from upgrading from the Nexus 5 to the 6P is the screen and the battery. Otherwise, it's the exact same. I don't care for photos, and slow motion video is about all I'm interested in as for camera features (to analyze my golf swing), and this phone has that.
    I'm hard pressed to know what added features an S7 or other high end phones that cost hundreds more could provide that make them worth buying.

    • @Gdsamplify
      @Gdsamplify 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Strikerage You make a fair point. I guess to an extent it does depend on your individual needs, and to some the added functionality of expandable storage and water resistance might make you them swing that way. But I've had the 6p for almost five months now and not felt like i needed those features.
      I really cannot fault it and I see it having no difficulty in taking me to the full 24 month period of my contract.

      You don't care about camera doesn't mean other people don't care either.. And s7 has the latest processor with better camera and screen yes it. Has better screen than this so it's faster and camera is better that's al I can think of but I am sure it has more things to offer so of course it's gonna cost more

    • @TroubledTurnip
      @TroubledTurnip 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Robert Dominguez I had the 5x for a few months because I thought the same as you, that the 6p was just too big. But eventually I bought one because I got a good deal on it (half price!). When I first took it out, yeah, it was too big and too heavy. I forced myself to use it for 2 days, and I still thought it was too big. But when I went back to the 5x it felt like a tiny plastic toy. Which isn't fair, but that's what it felt like. So I realized that, while it's still large, and still heavy, anything less than the 6p feels like garbage to me.

      The function that lets you glance at the display in black and white when you bring it up from a surface or give it a gentle shake is what he is talking about. It works fine he probably doesn't understand that there is a delay before you can trigger it again because if is sensitive enough that a bump in the road can wake your screen and having that happen constantly on the highway or a bumpy road would be a waste of battery and just plain annoying.

    does anyone not get notifications from Nexus 6p there apps or is it just me.. like I mean by when your looking at the app and I get a notification it will only show it in the notification panel and it don't actually show like 1 or 2 on the little app for example Facebook or massager or does the 6p not support that ?

      +myassin78 like if you got a notification on Facebook let's say would it show on the Facebook app on the app drawer when you open it cause mine don't

    • @james060491
      @james060491 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +IRISH- REBEL-MAN bro your English is fuked. I know what you mean, but you need to re-read your comments in your head before you press that post button. Anyway, no stock android doesn't put little number indicators on the app icon to show the number of emails or messages, etc. it something Apple did from the start as they didn't have a notification drawer in their older versions of iOS, but they now still continue do use it as some people are used to it/like it. Some android manufactures, specifically Samsung, have implemented it into their skins, because let's face it, Samsung likes to copy Apple sometimes

    • @harrisonwilliams8276
      @harrisonwilliams8276 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Martin Cross not if the competing phone has an 808 or 820 processor, the 810's thermal throttling is still apparent

    • @harrisonwilliams8276
      @harrisonwilliams8276 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Price wise, yes. Not much of a competition there. Performance wise, it can be better.

    • @martincross4235
      @martincross4235 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Harrison Williams worked out I got the 6p for £384 sim free (Google had a promotion on), the 2016 Samsung, htc etc all cost around £560 I know the new processors are better but not around £190 better + don't think I could go back to a smaller screen.

    • @harrisonwilliams8276
      @harrisonwilliams8276 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm just referring to the 810 as a performance bottleneck, but it's not always apparent depending on your use of the 6P, so in your case it would seem the 810 doesn't seem to be experiencing thermal throttling, so you should be fine if you keep a consistent workload.
