I like how the word pixel still has an 'x' in the middle, same as nexus, with two letters on either side. It will allow Google to keep that multicoloured 'x' to symbolise their phones
I so remember when Nexus 4 came out and all the "wow" and "the back breaks by itself when you're not looking" that came with it. 2012 was a magical year. So many great things got released...
@Rakyiv Yup. The processors the used, the Snapdragon 808 and 810 have known to cause these types of issues, and other phones like the LG G4 and V10 were affected as well.
yeah the 6p bezels are ridiculous. the thing is taller than the Nexus 6 even with the smaller screen, and now the pixels look to have an even bigger bezel with no front facing speakers
Alex Harvey You would think with technology progressing that they would in fact be making smaller bezels but that doesn't seem to be the case at all. Really don't understand it
Firstly, you forgot the Nexus player. Secondly, when you were talking about whether the name pixel is better, you forgot the purpose of the Nexus program! The whole point is to make a hardware platform that functions as a NEXUS of development. The pixel is completely Google, which means there is no hardware partner and therefore the death of the idea behind the Nexus program.
well sry that i am telling you the true but pixel made by htc!!! yea google drops in htc face a A4 paper and say i want this phone now!!! and HTC made it.... so if google want to speak for own smartphone must made it by self.. until then!! nop!!! is not A Google phone is still a a nexus project with other name!!!
The Cynical Historian I consider Android 4.0 the Nexus of Android development because it allowed costume firmware version from ISP for better or worse and is the reason why jelly bean was not Android 5 as Google wanted the hardware of Android development to synchronize before continuing the long term universal platform evolution.
The Cynical Historian there is a build partner for Pixel 1 and 2. With the Nexus line, the partners designed and built the phones, whereas with the Pixels, so far, they've been designed by Google and built by HTC for the Pixel 1 and Pixel 2, and LG for the Pixel 2 XL. However, since Google just hired 90% of HTC's hardware team, the Pixel 3 will most likely be built in house.
My dad owned the nexus 5 back then, amazing device. Then I remember his nexus 5 and my terrible phone from then stopped working at the same time. My dad said "hey, let's both buy a 5X", I refused as I was just a kid and I thought it was a little expensive, but my dad just decided to go all in and bought 32GB nexus 5x-s for both of us. Oh my god. The best smartphone I've ever had. My dad's lasted almost 6 years until it hit the grave this very year. I'd definitely buy another version of the 5 if they released it again. Considering a pixel A as my next smartphone, but who knows? I'm pretty happy with my current phone as well
That was so generous of your dad! Six years for a smartphone is a great lifespan, especially after said device has been discontinued. Tell me, what made the Nexus lineup "different" from the competition? I really do love the stock android design and the designs of the smartphones themselves. Google has always had this way of making their phones look "fresh" and "summery", I must be the only one who thinks of them this way haha! What phone do you currently have? I've personally never used a Nexus phone, in fact the only stock Android experience that I got was with the HTC One M7 GPE (Google Play Edition). I still have the device and it is the best looking smartphone ever in my opinion.
Nexus 5, nothing else to say! I'm still using it, I'll continue using it. It's got the same perfomance as the day I bought it. If this is what the new Google phones going to look like, then no thanks. Nexus ment something different, felt different.
AP is on a roll! they're making a lot of quality videos lately, and I actually enjoy watching them (not just because it's made by AP but the video itself is interesting and a lot more professional than before). Good job!
Watched this on my Nexus 6. I still love this phone. Dual front-facing speakers, huge display, and now running the 7.0 preview. Unless the new phones are stellar, I'll hold on for another year.
hopefully they're playing us all and the leaked images and renders are fake because the pixels look like like complete ass and leaks point to outdated specs for a high price
Excellent vid, Zach! I know "a rose by any other name...", but damn, I love the Nexus name!! Think I'll hold on to my 6P for a while longer and see what the future holds for us. Keep up the great work!👍🏽✌️🏽
I honestly feel that the "Nexus" is going to stay but have a change in direction. With the rumors of a new OS, I think Google will continue to provide developer devices for cheaper prices much like the original Nexus program. I think that the Nexus program under Android became so successful that the logical step was to create a phone for the consumer instead of the developer. Android has matured to the point where much like iOS there is no need for a developer program. Google can finally show us what Android is instead of what it should be. (Yes, I know it's open platform and can be whatever OEM's want it to be.) Why not redirect those resources to a newer operating system?
You missed a HUGE selling factor in the NEXUS line starting with the 6 and continuing through to the Pixel line. One phone has the capability to pickup all LTE signals for all U.S. companies, which is why you have to have one of these types of phones to use Project Fi.
I had many of these phones. I thought the Galaxy Nexus was a great phone. At the time, it was incredibly thin and had great performance. My favorite Nexus device was the 7. Compared to iPad at $499, the 7 was $199 for the base model with a $25 Play store credit. I know these weren't in the same class as far as screen size but the 7 had incredible performance for the price.
I love my Nexus 5. My favorite looking phone by far (mines the all black model). Only problem is, my wifi completely stopped working. It would just say "turning wifi on" forever. Might have to wait until the Pixel is revealed to decide if I want to get a new phone or not.
If you know how, flash the factory images on Google's website. It's pretty easy, and it almost always fixes problems. You'll lose all your data though so you should back it up.
Also, when Nexus devices began utilizing quality materials and coming in at pleasing lower price points, Nexus and Android in general started really gaining traction. ESPECIALLY upon unshackling device sales when manufacturers stopped absurdly manufacturing wireless carrier exclusive devices.....
Great video! I know I'm a bit late to the party, but I loved the Nexus line back in the day. I had the Nexus One, 4, 5, and 6, and I loved every one. The display broke under the glass on my N6 so I replaced it with a Note 8, it's a fantastic device but it's just not the same. I'm going to fix the Nexus 6 soon so I can get my custom ROM fix. I really miss playing with things like Magisk, Xposed, etc.
Clash Crootz it's sad..... You and I seem to be the only ones saying "hello? 5x? The last cheapest Nexus ever." The 6, and 6P was the glimpse at the grim future. There will be no more, ever
the actual pixel brand (Chromebook pixel 1&2 and the pixel C are excellent pieces of hardware that were designed by Google ,but this shit was built by htc using leftover scrap. I wish that htc would go out of business they can't turn a profit because they build shit and remove features. no front facing speakers this year, bigger bezels and a design stolen straight from apple
really loved this video, if this is the last Nexus ever then I'll treasure my Nexus 6p for life as the nexus era was the best it had a great attachment to me,dig the content big thumbs up for this video
I'm not talking about the OS; support by those communities might be good, but frankly, I don't care, as I've grown to hate tinkering with my phone. I need something that just works. What I am talking about is customer support concerning hardware and software failures. I have had two major problems with my OPO (rendering it useless for a week each), and 1+ support didn't even TRY to help me. Why? Because I bought the phone on ebay. I had every piece of information at my fingertips, be it the original account name, billing information etc., but their support straight up refused to help me from that point on. So yeah, I'm pissed. And I'm sure as hell never going to buy one of their products again, no matter how good they might be.
Yeah but the majority of what your paying for is hardware o.o yes they have technical support, but for the most part they cant really help with anything but software, and warranty. Warranty being available from a third party for one plus for 60 dollars at time of order, not sure if you can buy one after. which protects the phone from falls...cracks, and stuff, and then software can be modded in through XDA. Please remember the phone was made for Cyanogenmod, which is a custom rom. Not the phone for people who dont like modding phones, though a very good phone none the less. I apologize you had a bad experience :(
Ahahawwwww you don't have to apologise for that :p And when I bought this phone, I actually thought I'd really be into the modding stuff, as I had an iPhone before that and an Android Phone before that one. But after a couple of months I realised I definitely prefer iOS's simple "everything's really good, not perfect, but it works perfectly fine" approach :)
yeah I understand just wanting everything to work alright, just always come to myself about pricing and am like, if they just threw iOS or maybe Samsung's ROM on a phone like this it would have no downsides, and cost the same to the manufacturer. unfortunately the world can't just make the easy "perfect" option because of how saturated the market is with expensive phones.
Sad that you didn't see that I'm not ripped that comment, because I just didn't see it. So if you think that I just copied and pasted it - the douche is you
Person from the future: They will stop. Android Pie (9) is the last android version with a fun name. They stopped it for marketing purposes in other countries I think. telling a non English speaker simply Android 9 instead of Android pie would be easier for him. Although still I'm not a native English speaker and I fully understand that these are only code names but still English is my second so I so don't count. I see how it would be confusing for not techy non English speaking people to know what is Android Pie (They might think it is food instead of an os when they first hear it while Android 9 would not state it self as food)
After the inevitable failure of Pixel phones (high price, not a stock experience, no front facing speakers and even HTC as the manufacturer, not to mention the ugly af design), I think Google will come back to Nexus devices or at least the Nexus philosophy. I am a Google enthusiast, right now using the Nexus 6P and after seeing the leaks of these devices as well as their software, I wanted to rip my eyes out... Google, get your s*** together.
As you said you are a Google enthusiast so welcome to the new world these pixel phones are not for you they are for everyone. Also from watching this video the Nexus brand was not about cheap phones it became cheap with nexus 4 & 5 but that was not what it was about. I await to see what these phones look like in the flesh as i remember everyone kept on going on about how ugly the 6p was until it came out. As for the stock experience people have been moaning for years that although get a quick update the nexus phones always seem to be behind in features compared to the other OEM personally Android is what ever the owners say it is. Personally i thought the Nexus 6p was a nice designed phone but way to big and not very nice to hold and also the 5x just look cheap
I have a 6P as well as large hands, but I still find it quite difficult to use the phone on a daily basis. I also like the design, but it is just inconvenient for me to use day-to-day. I am glad that the Pixel XL is smaller than the 6P in both display size and size overall. The 6P's front speakers add to the size and make the phone feel big, especially when compared to the Note 3, 4, 5, and 7.
I agree about the design and feel not being final, but still, Google's aproach defeats the whole purpose of Google made phones (snappy, light, stock experience) that many of us love. I am a Google enthusiast and I don't like what I see as of right now, maybe the final product may be much different. You say these phones are for everyone. Everyone, who? Google enthusiasts don't like it because it isn't stock, other people who can spend a lot for a phone mostly prefer Samsung and Apple phones, those who are looking for an affordable good phone will find it expensive, so what is the target group exactly? Both Google and HTC had many failures in the past and I think it's because they didn't consider their target group.
Here with the Nexus 6 I purchased when the 6P and 5X released. Camera is fucked up. Takes 30 sec to start up the camera, then every 30 seconds after that I get an onscreen view on what the camera is seeing. So 0 fps. It's slow on home screen, crashes once a week and battery has gone to shit. It only does this when I actually need to use the features. When something important comes up, it crashes. When I'm out to a concert, the battery dies in two hours, en when I want to capture a special moment with my camera, it stops working. The non-productive features like a game or something runs fine.
I have the exact same experience with my N6. I HATE this phone and want to SMASH IT ON THE CONCRETE!!!!! My sister has the same experience. Camera is useless when you need it, and the whole phone slows to an unusable crawl routinely. Nexus 5 was a perfect phone for me until the wifi stopped working, and my wife's continues to function to this day, better than the N6. Plus, you can actually fit it in your pocket! Anyway the N6 is the worst phone I've ever owned.
Jamie Hofman The size is no problem for me. I actually prefer it above a 4,7 of 5,2 inch, but that's just preference. It's just too goddamn slow. What's the model number + build number of your phone? Maybe one of the two is identical and they just released a bad batch. ***** My phone is as clean as possible, so don't know what the cause is.
Flightsimuatorx Fan it's the best android phone for 2017! It has the highest rated camera and it doesn't have that laggs everybody hates. Too bad it's expensive
The Nexus 4 does have LTE but you can only enable it through root. A lot of speculation behind it not being enabled was that Google or LG couldn't get FCC approved for the LTE radio.
6P had a good build quality? That was proven wrong here on youtube, just search for "6p durability test", it looks like a very cheap build for a flagship.
Nexus 5x is still amazing. Camera is very good and I am currently running Android 8. Had bootloop 2 months ago, so i replaced my Mainboard and now everything works Just fine
Super Saiyan Melayu the iPhone may have copied m7 but look all of the m series and the htc 10 look way way way more similar to the m7 than the iphone does. I a9 looks nearly identical to the iPhone though
DEaD[-_×]RiSE I smell a fanboy Nobody would compare the Nexus 6p (except the front panel) to an iPhone nor would they say that a nexus 6 or Nexus 5 look like one. This just looks like an iphone
My first two phones were Nexus phones (4 and 6P). Other than my 6P slowly ceasing to function near the end of its life, I don't think I could've chosen better phones to use back then.

Right! That time period was insane for tech. Galaxy S3, Iphone 5, so much was happening!
My Nexus 4 was great to test how level a table was. Any incline at all and you could see it slide.
google dropped nexus because they ran out of numbers.
Nexus 8
m8
Nexus 69
nexus 420
Nexus 711
2019 and I'm here... Using a 6P. This guy still as good as the time when it was released.
You are very lucky for your 6p to not have bootlooped.
@Rakyiv Bootlooping's a common issue for both the Nexus 5X and 6P, seeing one without bootlooping is fortunate to say the least.
@Rakyiv Yup. The processors the used, the Snapdragon 808 and 810 have known to cause these types of issues, and other phones like the LG G4 and V10 were affected as well.
Running android 7.0 on nexus 5 proudly can say its a great phone still no competition at the price
now install lineage os 16 on it aka android 9
@Darry. bruh
Watching this in 2019 on my Nexus 6P and I love it! This phone still contends today with the newer flagship phones.
The Material Design in Android L is what made me move over from iOS. I've always hated the black and blue UI of kitkat and older versions.
I quite liked the look of Android 4, I miss it just like I miss the look of Windows XP and 7.
Carlos Sanchez No I moved TO android BECAUSE of how nice material is. I DON'T LIKE the kitkat UI
same
Ah, the black and blue design you're mentioning is called 'Holo Theme'. It was good for it's time, but I much prefer Material Design as well.
***** My favorite part is those animations, when the circle expands on my app drawer, a little dribble comes out every time.
Im still using my nexus 4!
me too
how is it? I'm still using the 5 and still flying. 😇❤
Its been 3 years and 2 months since i am using mine N4
Im also still on 4, and it runs smoothly.
Same! But I just ordered me Nexus 5
Watching on the 2015 flagship Nexus 6p..
hows the battery life on it? what's your average sot, was planning to get it
Same
Get it bro...it is really amazing phone ..best I could say..that speakers and camera is amazing...
Battery life is good...avg sot is 3hr and 30min....after having nougat in it... but one time I got a whopping 9hr and 17min of sot....not kidding😱👍👍
but what's your usage like daily bro?
I'm still using Nexus 5 2013 😅
Nexus 5, Probably the best Smartphone.. Ever! Same bro.
Don't get the 6p I have one and its good but the 810 overheats way too much.
switched to Nexus 6P few months back.
Nexus 5X is still a worthy upgrade to the 5.
Bingocat No anymore the phones build/specs probably won't be good enough for 2 more years.
Nexus for life!!
Samsung is better
Tim, is that you?

Main reason to get Nexus: Affordability.
The bezels on the nexus 6 were the best!!! Why can't they make'em like that anymore? : (
yeah the 6p bezels are ridiculous. the thing is taller than the Nexus 6 even with the smaller screen, and now the pixels look to have an even bigger bezel with no front facing speakers
Alex Harvey You would think with technology progressing that they would in fact be making smaller bezels but that doesn't seem to be the case at all. Really don't understand it
I believe that the 6p had those enormous bezels due to the front facing speakers
Merrick Farris not really because of the front facers. Nexus 6 has dual front facing speakers and half as much bezel
Alex Harvey Because it has larger body so there's more space to put the speakers
Firstly, you forgot the Nexus player. Secondly, when you were talking about whether the name pixel is better, you forgot the purpose of the Nexus program! Well there are hardware partners, it's just that their name isn't on the device. Pixel 2XL was made by LG and the regular Pixel 2 is by hTC

never thought I could go through that much nostalgia...
Still have my Motorola Nexus 6. Still have no need to upgrade.
Reminded me of all of my android experiences since 2011, such a great video mate!
What if Google played us all, the Pixel XL price will be $500.
Now THAT, I'd be cool with. Doesn't look likely unfortunately.
HTC wouldn't have anything to do with pricing for the Pixel, they're just an ODM like Foxconn for this project.
A guy can dream.
hopefully they're playing us all and the leaked images and renders are fake because the pixels look like like complete ass and leaks point to outdated specs for a high price
You know I have that feeling too. But if they are playing us this will be the greatest fake leaks of all time.

huh? But it did have good build quality

Nexus 5 and Nexus 6p best devices when they released
Have a Nexus 5X and absolutely love it!
Same here! The Pixel lineup seems absolutely horrid to me. I think I'll upgrade to a 6P instead in a couple of years :p
Well, in Europe, the 2015 Nexus were way more expensive than in US, they really fucked up

Why Google why?! Nexus is an amazing name. Pixel is shit :(
agreed! 😐
Nah, I love the name
I don't care about the name as long as the product is high quality for a fair price.

the phones don't actually need to have a crazy price o.o to have those specs. look at one plus
And with the low price, you also get an incredibly terrible support. Yay c:

I have my Nexus 7 for 5 years now and love it!
Why Google is obsessed with round icons !!
Because they enjoy making terrible design choices.
Cuz they're obsessed with balls.
oh god no.
I don't really like it too, but you can just switch back to the Google Now Launcher.
Google Now Launcher doesn't change the icon style, does it?
Sir, your voice quality is quite professional.
5:44 is that sexual harassment?!
huehuehuehue
How original. Sad 4 people didn't see that you completely ripped off another comment. Douche
Sad that you didn't see that I'm not ripped that comment, because I just didn't see it. So if you think that I just copied and pasted it - the douche is you
How original!
nice catch, just thought about it, scroll down the comment and here your are.
This brings back memories man
The Nexus S had a super AMOLED display. That was ages ago and the iPhone 7 well............
Motorola Nexus 6 using .. very great phone
I love how google names android after candy and baked goods
Person from the future: They will stop. Android Pie (9) is the last android version with a fun name. They stopped it for marketing purposes in other countries I think. telling a non English speaker simply Android 9 instead of Android pie would be easier for him.
Although still I'm not a native English speaker and I fully understand that these are only code names but still English is my second so I so don't count.
I see how it would be confusing for not techy non English speaking people to know what is Android Pie (They might think it is food instead of an os when they first hear it while Android 9 would not state it self as food)
Oh man the feels are real watching this video.
I buy Nexus because of stock Android i don't need skins
I've feel that Google is also gonna fail because of that they f***up whit their target group.
gained a subscriber cause of this video. good job homie 👌
I'm still using Google Nexus 6
Great video once again. Keep it up!
We'll surely miss the Nexus :'(
still wanted to buy that nexus 6p. i really want that phone
Do it before it gets Discontinued.
You've got like 2 years left or less.
Doge The Dog yeah, after seeing the price of the pixel phones, ill definitely get this one.
Im using it since a year now and its a beast of a phone. I love everything about it, Im sure you won't be disappointed.
2010-2016 rip, and I wanted one at some point. Specifically the Nexus 5
LG Nexus 4 is my fave
Great video.
detailed & quality ❤️
Here with the Nexus 6 I purchased when the 6P and 5X released. Camera is fucked up. Takes 30 sec to start up the camera, then every 30 seconds after that I get an onscreen view on what the camera is seeing. So 0 fps. It's slow on home screen, crashes once a week and battery has gone to shit.
It only does this when I actually need to use the features. When something important comes up, it crashes. When I'm out to a concert, the battery dies in two hours, en when I want to capture a special moment with my camera, it stops working. The non-productive features like a game or something runs fine.
my nexus 6 still is awesome and fast.
Tristan Hoekstra , my build # is NPD90G. I'm running Nougat, but this phone was just as crappy before. What's your build #?
Identical build number. No idea what the problem could be then.. I mean, for most people it's running fine.
Brings a tear to my eye 😢
Forgetting the Nexus Player 😥
like you
This actually brought a tear to my eye
I am waiting for the pixel phone since my Galaxy Nexus is way too laggy.
5 year old device. So surprised it's lagging.
Just get a 5x or 6p
Doge The Dog
I'll buy 2017 pixel because hopefully they will have dual cameras
Flightsimuatorx Fan it's the best android phone for 2017! It has the highest rated camera and it doesn't have that laggs everybody hates. Too bad it's expensive
The Nexus 4 does have LTE but you can only enable it through root. A lot of speculation behind it not being enabled was that Google or LG couldn't get FCC approved for the LTE radio.
6P had a good build quality? That was proven wrong here on youtube, just search for "6p durability test", it looks like a very cheap build for a flagship.
All of these phones feel like they came out yesterday... It's crazy how far technology has come.
Nexus 4 defenetly made the breakthrough
My nexus 7 2013 died its screen out of nowhere. Touch doesnt work anymore
2018 anyone?
Cool video , I'm still running the Nexus 6 , I bought it in summer 2015 for 200 bucks , it's a great device.
was this the voice of zachary adreson?
Lol yeup that's me
Zachary Anderson is this your channel?
he's part of AP team 🙂

Bravo, sir! Great video.
Nexus 4 will always be my favorite
loving my Nexus 5x and can't wait for the pixel specs
I'm watching this with a Nexus 5x
Nexus 5x is still amazing. Camera is very good and I am currently running Android 8. Had bootloop 2 months ago, so i replaced my Mainboard and now everything works Just fine
I have one. But don't get one.... With Google leaving the Nexus program for dead... There will be something better
watching this on a 6p lol
Still rocking Nexus 6p with replaced battery. 🔋
It's time to address the elephant in the room. The new Pixel phones are a blatant iPhone design ripoff.
that's because it's made out of htc a9 leftovers which was 100% iclone
The iphone copied htc one m7 first. So that means the One A9 is not their clone.
Super Saiyan Melayu the iPhone may have copied m7 but look all of the m series and the htc 10 look way way way more similar to the m7 than the iphone does. I a9 looks nearly identical to the iPhone though
so every phone with a fucking screen is a iphone ripoff
go fuck yourself ffs
DEaD[-_×]RiSE I smell a fanboy
Nobody would compare the Nexus 6p (except the front panel) to an iPhone nor would they say that a nexus 6 or Nexus 5 look like one. This just looks like an iphone
Learned some things about Nexus that I didn't even know. Thanks.
Nexus sounds like Lexus
Rip nexus-u done good, ur series was good value and good specs 😭 we'll miss you- btw im typing this on a 5x
And I'm still stuck with S10 in 2019. 😑
Wdym?
Bummer really sucks to be you.
Amazing video, for the first time I've watched such a long video....
6p still is the best phone
My first two phones were Nexus phones (4 and 6P). Other than my 6P slowly ceasing to function near the end of its life, I don't think I could've chosen better phones to use back then.
watched this vid using my nexus 5. 😂😍
I pre ordered the G1 and the Nexus one. Great times! I still have my T-Mobile G1 and I wish I kept the Nexus one.
