One of the most beautiful funeral ceremonies I have seen. I also had to cry bitterly for my little brother who had died. We loved the Pogues' music growing up. Goodbye Shane from Germany.🙏✝
I am sorry for your loss! 🕯
Courage from France x@@gigiallin8266
Simply the BEST funeral I have ever seen, rest easy Shane. It was also fitting to remember Sinead O'Connor today, together they recorded "Haunted". It would have been her birthday today so well done for including the song.
Even better than the Popes funeral !
Aww....without knowing it was her birthday, I was thinking of Sinead today xx Best Wishes for your Journey Home Shane, thanks for the music xx
Yeah the procession reminded me of Sinead's; so sad however their music brought joy to so many people & lit up the room.
❤
My deepest sympathy and love❤ It was a wonderful funeral ceremony 🎶✨☯️
Beautiful ceremony filled with love, friends and family. With gratitude, Farewell, Shane.
He'd have hated it
@@Irishmammy281why? I thought it was beautiful.
Irish mammy. Why? It would be interesting to know what he would have hated about it.

This is what he would have chosen and yes I'm Irish and from Tipperary
Tears, happiness and dance in a funeral - how beautiful and authentic! Thank you! Rest in peace, dear Shane
I completely agree with you
Tis indeed the way we do funerals in Ireland. We get over our sadness by being happy. We remember always the best about the person who is gone.
@@johnoconnor4623☘️that’s what I miss about Ireland! How we celebrate a life In death. I recently lost a cousin from a musical family and the whole ceremony was about his music and songs that were meaningful and jokes in his band. It was so sad but joyful of his life, as it should be x
@@johnoconnor4623we do the same at many funerals here in New Orleans. And especially at funerals for musicians - Jazz funerals with second-line parades There’s the sad part in the church, and then there’s the singing and dancing in the streets to celebrate the life of the deceased… and to celebrate life.
I am touched to know there’s singing and dancing and celebrating at funerals in Ireland.
So beautifully said..Couldn't agree more..Rest easy Shane
I'd like to mention Father Pat Gilbert, parish priest of Nenagh, who conducted the funeral mass with great skill and empathy. He managed the secular and the religious mix very well indeed. He was ably assisted by his concelebrant priests. Well done gentlemen.
Also worthy of a mention was the Cúil Aodha choir, led by Peadar Ó Riada. Their singing of the sacred liturgy was awesome.
Very well said!!...also big shout out to all organisers who welcomed all to Nenagh with open arms. It was incredibly well set up, credit to all.
Well done Father Gilbert, the celebrants, and the wonderful choir. For those around the world, it was like entering a small parish to mourn and celebrate one of our own.
Were some of the priests there Pallottines? I've had some great friends who were Pallottines from Tipperary, Cork and Inagh.
Indeed it was truly well done
@@BenSpectre-oh3ws All the priests were Diocesan clergy to the best of my knowledge.
Tears..., as a West Coast American of some Irish Descent, Shane spoke to my heart early in the mid-80s.
I will be forever grateful!
I have never ever seen a funeral like this and am completely in awe of his wife!
We don't celebrate the one's we love in life anywhere near enough. It's only when they are gone can we truly appreciate how lucky we were to have them and tell ourselves we won't take life or friendship for granted, but do we really learn or is it a lesson we keep forgetting until its too late ♥️
Every single word you said is true, you have read my mind
yes i totally agree ,, that's something i alway's say ,, you dont know what you've got until they are gone ,,we are all guilty of it ,, just getting on with life and we alway's seem to take the best people in our live's for granted,, i hope they can watch us from their final resting place and know how much they are loved & Missed.
🙏 Rest In Eternal Paradice Shane 🙏
cant beat irish funerals ! the wake would have been something else.
This is an Irish funeral ...reminds me of my Da's R.I.P. Shane
That priest is brilliant, he did a mighty job of balancing the celebration aspect with the solemnity and reverence
I'm Colombian but for a short poignant & beautiful moment....I felt like an Irishman .... RIP Shane.
What a lovely sentiment.
Beautiful......
Aww . beautiful ❤️
Your very welcome as an Irish person today x
You're an honorary Irishman then
Beautiful RIP Shane…. Living away from Ireland, at special times your music reduces me to tears as it touches my soul.

Nothing, like the simple tin whistle & the fiddle. What's the difference between the Irish fiddle & the violin?.. you can spill your beer on a fiddle 🎻 🥰🎻
@@sharonm1990 🤣many a pint has been spilled! Makes it sound sweeter x
@yvonneflanagan2312 that's for sure 🎻 🎻
As a young boy growing up in New Zealand
I learned to drink to Shane’s music
I wanted to be like him
His music ignited a flame of freedom within me
We didn’t know each other
But In your music
We were the same person
I’ll always be thankful
Now from the other side of the world
I shed a tear for you Shane
Rest in peace
I lover your story, yes you are one with Shane, he would have loved you too, he would have loved that you understood and liked his music and words, you would be most welcome at time you wish to come to Ireland it would be like home from home to you
The most beautiful funeral I’ve never been to! I laughed, I wept, I sat slack jawed at the beauty of the music. I felt like I was there, like I knew the man, I said goodbye to a hero and I feel so blessed that this was shared with us all. Slán, Shane and many, many thanks.
The most perfect comment, I agree with you 💯,, makes me soo proud 2 b Irish ☘️ & Catholic ..
You have been reading my mind, you felt the same way as I did, I could not believe that Sky news channel showed about 3.5 hours of Shanes's funeral, that was a most brilliant thing to see and hear, the joy and love for Shane's at his funerals has already spread all over the world
@@jamesbradshaw3389 🙏🙏🤗🤗👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
That performance of Fairytale of New York will move any songwriters to tears, it's every person's dream to have people dancing and partying at their funeral as they sing the pub song they wrote to send them off
My favorite line is when he says he put his dreams away with hers. Sometimes you have to put things aside in order to forge a new dream together.
The Irish know how to celebrate one's life. This is no exception. Rise in peace, Shane 🙏
Thank you for sharing this with the world. We got to feel a part of it. He sings with the angels now. RIP and farewell, Shane.
Massive respect to his wife Victoria for a wonderful ode to Shane and for allowing us to witness this beautiful goodbye to our hero! Thank you! ❤
Incredibly. The Irish are a wonderful people. And you, Shane McGowan, made history just by being yourself. RIP
❤❤❤
The Irish are now Richer than the uk. Irish people are now richer than Americans
I’m so happy that people can see how we are at our core, our culture, our art, how we love how we loose that love, this is a reflection of who we are….Shane was one of us….RIP ❤
A true Irish funeral, music, friends and family. What else could you ask for in the end?
.......absolutely Irish!!!...........luv from India..........felt Irish myself.
Wonderful farewell from all his loved ones. Rest in peace, Shane.
Just watched the whole funeral it was beautiful and well deserved to a brilliant singer
A true legend, rest in peace Shane
It's all so beautiful--I'm overcome. Love ya, Shane, and thanks so much for how you changed my life.
Shane was a genius: he knew how to combine youthful punk rebellion with respect for traditional Irish music. In his maturity he remembered those who had to emigrate and those who suffered subjugation. He also knew how to create beautiful love songs... My admiration. RIP Shane MacGowan
Yes he was a genius, and that is the first thing I thought the first time I saw him and heard his music. He was one of a kind.
From one of the thousands who left home to find a better life, first in London and later Los Angeles. Listing to Your songs, feeling homesick especially at Christmas. How we sang with all our gusto “Fairytale of New York”. Go raibh maith agut Shane. There will be some session in heaven this Christmas.
Merry Christmas from Ireland 🎄
So well said of the man just love fairytale of new York was living in England home now
Remarkable celebration of a remarkable life.. The Irish certainly understand the spirit of life & death.. Peace on your way Shane and to all who are taking the time to tune into this moment in time.
I'm Brazilian and I love Ireland. The Pogues' songs brought me strength and calm during the COVID pandemic. I wish Shane's family peace!! I hope to experience Ireland and its beautiful traditions anytime. Hugs to all the fans of this dear genius!!
Beautiful ceremony full of love and meaning for the poet of Tipperary. Thank you Shane and all who gave their talent to this lovely tribute. I hope you are smiling! Rest now.
What a send of for Shane and thank you for everyone who made it lovely for him.
The Pogues have been such a big part of my life since I was 13 (1984). I will never forget the evening with The Pogues in San Francisco, 2007. What a party.
The Pogues and Shane's Music and Poetry will Always be a part of my world, providing me with so many great memories.
Thank you for the ability to be a part of this amazing remembrance and such a perfect Farewell.

Thank you so much for posting this . He will be missed 🙏
Beautiful service.
And well deserved.
Goodbye you legend.
Youll live on in so many ways.
Thank you for everything you left us.
Beautiful.

Authentic.
Youre already missed and always will be. 💚
I was thinking exactly the same, Shane would have love that singing and dancing. Thank you, Shane for everything 💚💚💚
Give Sinead a massive hug, Shane. RIP.
Imagine the music being made with Shane, Sinéad, and Dolores together
@eirenuaireland Must be so self satisfying to be all judgmental and sanctimonious and smug. Ever heard of ‘but for the grace go I’? Or walk a mile in someone else’s shoes? May you experience the same torturing mental illness and then get back to me about your all knowing judgement. 🖕🏻
RIGHT ON!
@eirenuaireland so like, checking your comments on this video... is being a misogynistic troll on funeral videos just a thing you do or is this a special occasion?
i'm sure she loved he homeland! she lived there for so long at the sea, but yes, she critised the abuse of children by irish preasts, like in the whole WORLD preasts abused children, hope they stopped now! thanks to Sinead to! she critised the irish people, because she Knew them.. but people are the same evrywhere.. there are evrywhere stupid people , hypocryt people.. bad people.. a lot of artists, musicians critise the nature of people.. and even write songs about them.. SINEAD mostly wrote LOVE SONGS , maybe she should have writen a lovesong about ireland, maybe there is one.. left somewhere.. She thought England was so much better, but like the grass is always greener somewhere else... SHe died in England , maybe she should have been better if she was in Ireland and made some walks at the sea.. well, anyways, she was a bit af a depressed soul, but beautifull, she can rest in peace with her son and Shane, @@eirenuaireland

I think the world got to see an Irish funeral...being Irish and the musical family I am so happy to have this is what I am used to. We celebrate the person's life, not just the life we lost.....through music, song and laughter ❤
Mó Ghile Mear sung so beautifully.
I love the call and refrain style and the devoted, emotional voices who make this haunting Celtic aria and last ever tune to be experienced by Shane so very moving.
Why is this brilliance tucked away 2 hours and 26 minutes into a livestream. It deserves to be a standalone video on TH-cam.
Thank you, Shane, for this wonderful music. It is an enrichment for my life. ❤
what a stunningly beautiful funeral mass and party for the wild man of hard rocking poet, wordsmith, singer, songwriter, storyteller Irish and world music man
Most fitting and emotional tribute to a great Irish legend and absolute gentleman, may his gentle soul rest in peace. He will live forever in the hearts of his fans
Couldn't hold back the tears when Nick Cave sang 'Rainy night in Soho'...😢
Now the song is .. over.
Absolutely beautiful
Absolutely beautiful. Shane McGowan you were loved by many
What a beautiful ceremony. It shows what a unique person Shane was and how he was loved for who he was. The best funeral I have seen besides my father's, which was filled with poetry, art, and food.
I'm not from Ireland, but I've always felt a bit Irish as part of my ancestory. And growing up as a punk, Shane's music bridged that gap. RIP Shane.
You are most welcome to the fold, I have alwayssaid if you feel Irish then you are Irish, no matter where you are born,
You don't have to be Irish to be Irish, just sing a little more and dance a little more xx
And let us give thanks also to the wonderful priest. An inspired homily. Thank you.
I love this wonderful, deep, meaningful special Irish tribute to dear Shane MacGowan. It’s one of the most special Catholic funerals I’ve experienced. I’ve only been to a few Catholic funerals, but this touches deep and yet the wonderful Irish still have their unique sense of humour and at the same time reverence. R.I.P. Shane. Love from South Africa🇿🇦
Shane looking down on this wonderful memorial service will be happy with the wonderful send off, r.i.p Shane, will never be forgotten, his humanity and his magical music will live forever!

That rendition of Haunted at 17:05 is amazing - it’s a genuinely brilliant performance, they should release it

Who was loved and adored by so many, many Irish people and why not as Shane loved you dearly as well.
My love to his dear wife and many close friends to whom he has left behind and I know it's tearful for you at this moment in time but try to remember the happy times you shared with Shane for many, many years and that will bring some happiness into your hearts.
Shane should not just be remembered for (A fairytale in New York) after all he wrote and sang many more song then that one alone and he was nice gently person with a heart of gold.
Yes Shane had his troubles with drink and a whole lot more but who in this life is perfect or a saint not nobody.
(A fairytale in New York) what a master piece of a song with an Irish feel about it and not English and rightly so.
I end by saying Thank you to Shane's mother and father for bringing a beautiful son into this world and who made me happy with his songs for many, many, many years.
