That isn’t usually allowed, but it was probably permitted by the priest given the emotional atmosphere and that fact that it was a spur of the moment type thing. Try to remember that MacGowan was a pretty faithful catholic who prayed and took holy communion regularly. With all due respect, a lot of you are making his funeral less about his soul and more about yourselves. Catholics and Orthodox Christians do not have funerals as a “celebration of life”; they are meant for time of deep prayer to assist the soul through the death process. If any of you reading this are catholic, please have mass intentions said for the repose of his soul. Before anything else, he was and still is a child of God. The man deserves this.

shane would've expected nothing less than dancing at his funeral. RIP to the master storyteller
At the after party, yes, certainly. Not during the requiem mass. Notice that the only ones dancing were just a few people in the very front row. That was it. That isn’t usually allowed, but it was probably permitted by the priest given the emotional atmosphere and that fact that it was a spur of the moment type thing.
Try to remember that MacGowan was a pretty faithful catholic who prayed and took holy communion regularly. With all due respect, a lot of you are making his funeral less about his soul and more about yourselves. Catholics and Orthodox Christians do not have funerals as a “celebration of life”; they are meant for time of deep prayer to assist the soul through the death process.
If any of you reading this are catholic, please have mass intentions said for the repose of his soul. Before anything else, he was and still is a child of God. The man deserves this.
As only the Irish can do. A brilliant send off. Brought tears to my eyes and joy to my heart. Rest in peace, Shane. God bless you and your family.
