Good ol Ruger 10/22! They’re a do all good rifle! I put my old 1980s vintage 10/22 thru a bench rested accuracy test decades ago. It was hard to decide which brand and bullet weight was really the most accurate as it did very well with nearly everything. I did find that the CCI plain lead SGB (small game bullet) which was 40 grains with a flat nose, was the very best in my rifle. Not sure if CCI still offers this load or not but it was surely a great one in my rifle. I have done left that I have in reserve for special squirrel shoots. All this pandemic mess from the last several years has probably caused the demise of this great load that CCI offered and that’s sad.
Great shooting and that’s a good load for your rifle for sure!

I enjoyed that shooting friend, especially the off hand part. The three misses did indeed scare it as I could see the puffs of dirt in line or just slightly off the target.
I have had trouble with unsteady hands and arms for aiming this year but chalked it off to advancing years. I know 63 is not really "Old" but it is older than 23 or 33.
A couple of weeks ago, I had a routine doctor appointment to get some prescriptions refilled. My doctor listened to my heart and told me something wasn't right. She said I was skipping beats.
So we did an ECG and it showed I have atrial flutter, meaning the upper part of my heart can be beating up to 300 beats a minute. This can cause palpitations, I suspect those palpitations (Noticeable heartbeats, likely more forceful than normal) will effect how steady you can hold a rifle.
So in about a week I go for an echocardiogram, and am scheduled for a Cardioversion on August 25. That is literal shock treatment, as in defibrillator shock, but using pads instead of paddles and with just enough sedation to make it painless. That usually gets the heart beating as it should.
I am interested to find out if that eases my shakey aiming. I know the shakiness is caused by the too hard heart beets,
But I have learned to keep the unsteadiness on target as best I can and I have been pleased with the results.
This is why I have come to love air gun shooting; it is as much a head game as it is physical, just like the game of baseball that I was passionate about back in high school. Both sports are as much about overcoming, concentrating and adapting.
I've left my heart in the hands of the LORD, and am carrying on, but just a little more carefully as I am taking a blood thinner:)
And, it looks like I a wrote another book:)

    Hey Travis,
Thanks again for a great video.
I finally finished watching all your airgun videos and am starting to watch your videos on rimfire rifles, even though it will be a while before my kids are ready for the 10-22 or any other powder burner.
I've always heard that CCI Stingers, Mini Mags, or Velocitors were the best rounds to shoot because of the hi performance and quality. I don't own a .22lr rifle, but they all cycled well through my .22lr conversion kit for my 92fs.
Also, CCI tends to make cleaner burning .22lr ammo.
I have no first hand experience with the new defensive non lead frangible .22 lr and don't know how well or crappy it performs but have only seen the videos.(Just some recommendations for you. )
If you mainly shoot bench rest, you may want to try your hand in extreme benches airgun competitions. I bet you would sweep the competitions!!!
Stay Safe, Be Well, God Bless.

I would love to see you do more off hand air rifle and rimfire shooting and maybe do it more with open sights from 20 yards distance away like I do. I’ve never liked scopes or using a rest

I like CCI standard and Blazers in my old 510, your little Ruger seems to like them too.
75-100 yards at soda can bottoms with a .22 is always a fun challenge.

I like your steel target. I love my foot tall by 10 inch wide steel plate target. Especially with a stick on 6 inch disc shoot and see birchwood casey target in the middle of it to shoot off hand from 20 yards distance away using open sights with my Hatsan 135 QE vortex .25 caliber break barrel air rifle

The way toget good at off hand is to do it. I got bored with bench and sitting. So I started shooting a 1.25" spinner at 41 yards.

Should try the Hypervelocity ammo, CCI Copper, Norma Eco Speed & the Aguila SuperMaximum. Like to see what the Shaw can do with ammo flying at them speeds.

    Id take that!
Ive heard dry firing a powder burner was not great for the firing pin...but how do you even de-cock a semi auto ?
    {I feel like this is the kind of thing I should have learned in my safety class...but nope}
    Good shooting buddy

Is that the Shaw barrel one? Yah like to see Thunderbolt @50 & AR Tactical by CCI also Clean ammo in the carton. I have mostly SV too, mostly. (Newt) Thinking of trying a 16" barrel this fall for my Ruger. 🎯

Yeah thats the shaw barrel. It really improved this old 10/22. Why 16" over 18"?

@@ohshoot444 never tried a karbine barrel before. See how it performs with bulk. Think maximum burn on a 22 is 16 to 17".

I am a cold weather person when the sweat is in my eyes and feel all sticky I don't shoot well off hand either. Realizing that I have been going into my garage on hot days and plink at my trap 12 yards away. Trying to teach myself to deal with the arch of motion when I am uncomfortable. It seems like you get over that with muscle mechanics.

I think my trigger finger gets too slow too from shooting rested so much. It’s on my to do list to start shooting different positions.

I’ve heard that cci brass is thicker. Maybe you have one with a tight chamber. Had a Thomson center barrel like that once.
