      Sam, you can use your remote to go all the way down on one condition: you do not change Kelvins. Must remain on standard for this lamp (5600K) and only then you will be able to dim all the way down. This remote is universal, but the lamp works only in 5600K.

  • @Soarpix3D
    @Soarpix3D 4 ปีที่แล้ว +24

    Press and hold "SET" to change the remote to 5600K. Then you can dim down to 10% on the remote.

    So you’re saying this is enough for a small home studio even as key.. no need for fancy pricey VL-150.. I think this vid helped me a lot deciding what to get.. it’s a good sign to see you’re happy with it even after a period of use..

      @SamHolland  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey! So pleased you found this video helpful. It’s worked absolutely fine for me as a key light for one person in a home. It would be awesome to have a little bit more brightness for slow motion / higher shutter speeds or aputure but I’m super happy with it. If you have the budget and you want to future-proof yourself, then maybe go for the VL range or the SL 200. But for £124 it’s incredible. Hope that helps. • @falothman
      @falothman 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sure, you've done a fine work. The fan issue wasn't as bad as anticipated, my old PC and AC unit have the real noise! I think that I didn't have the right expectation when it comes to light output as I think it's not that great. But maybe as a beginner am still in the trial-and-error phase when it comes to key light placement, specially that I see how SL-60w served you well and others. Can hardly see a difference in output between 60 and 100 ! The reason I didn't get the SL-200w is the reported color shift compared to the rest and potentially worse fan noise.
      On another note, I can see that SL-100w is not common in US/EU s while SL-60/SL-150 is not in Middle East. the VL series look promising but I’d wait till I use up the SL with LED Panel kit I already have.
      Appreciate the efforts 😊

    • @SamHolland
      @SamHolland  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey. Will you be using a softbox with it too? If you get a decent padded case for it and take your time packing it away and setting up etc. It should last a long time. Mine is still absolutely fine and I do move it around a lot so you should be good 👍🏻 let me know what you do! 😂 Thanks for watching 🙏🏻🎥

    • @brumcreative
      @brumcreative 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sam Holland As it would be mostly for wedding speeches it’d likely be at a distance, so I’d be happy just using the reflector it comes with. I’d love to get into making TH-cam videos in the future, so maybe I’d consider the soft box then. Annoyingly I do already have a soft box, but it’s not a Bowens mount!

      Here’s a video that might help. I think there are some tips in there for standard colour profiles… th-cam.com/video/JzuU0vDyivM/w-d-xo.html
      But basically a log profile looks very “flat” - low contrast and low saturation BUT it captures more information (bigger files) and it means you can colour grade an image better and retain nice colours and also has more dynamic range so will retain detail in highlights and shadows 🙏🏻 hope this helps

    Brilliant video! Glad to hear you still like them after putting them through their paces for several months. I just bought 2, which will be delivered Monday 26 October. I plan on using them primarily for photography.
    Question; do you think these can be used outdoors in mid-day as a fill light? Are they powerful enough to get rid of harsh shadows? I'll use them a lot inside for sure, but I'm trying to improve my ROI (return on investment) by including them on day time shoots as well. I have an Interfit Nomad battery pack, which I use to power my Godox flashes outside, and could use it to do the same with the pair of SL-60W's. Also, does the base of the light have a hole through it to accept an umbrella?
    If you or any of your subscribers have any thoughts on this, I'd appreciate it. Cheers and peace to all from Cleveland, Ohio.

    • @SamHolland
      @SamHolland  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Chris. That’s exciting 🤩 you may be able to use them as a fill light to get rid of shadows but it all depends on the exact look you’re going for, how close you position the light, and your camera settings etc. The sl60 doesn’t have an umbrella hole but the sl150ii does. Have you seen my video on that one? Might be worth looking at. Otherwise you could always get an attachment for your stand to mount an umbrella, you probably have one already being a photographer. Anyway I hope that helps, Ohio 🤩 thanks for watching 🙏🏻

On the left (from a rear view) there appears to be a small thumb screw for tightening. If that's not what it is, I guess I'll be upgrading my modifiers sooner, rather than later. Hi Sam. I just received my SL-60W lights, and the hole above the pivot/hinge is definitely to put an umbrella. There is a small thumbscrew to tighten the umbrella down. Hey. Thanks for watching and for your question. It really all depends on what you need. If you’re doing shoots where you need two lights then go for that. But if you only need the 1 then go for the 1 light with a softbox. I have another video where I compare the neewer softbox to the aputure. That might save you some money. You will get softer shadows with a softbox over the panel lights but if you’re new, it may not matter. Just remember it comes down to what you need! Sorry I forgot to also mention that it also depends on your budget. So if you have £150 then just get what you can. You could go second hand to save yourself some more money. Don’t forget stands etc too. I suppose having two lights will give you more options and you can use one or both of those on your talking head parts too. No, I appreciate the questions 🙏🏻 I hope I am helping

      @@SamHolland I appreciate the help. Luckily I already have light stands due to being a photographer for my day job, but I'm really new to video so needed some advice. On Amazon you can get 2 x Neewer 600smd led panels with batteries, mains power and stands for £150 so I may go for them, having battery power will make them more portable too. Thanks again for your help 😁

    Great video but there is one thing that concerns me in the bottom mount of this light. It leaves scratches and markings on my light stand and I'm not very sure why. This really concerns me and I'm not sure how much to tighten this light onto my light stand.

    Excellent video plx help me decide, I shoot food videos usually in a day and use diffused sunlight through the window, but sometimes at night I wana shoot but can’t just because of the light issues,
    Uptill now I have planned to buy Aputure P60C ( kit of 2 RGB lights)
    Plx advise what to do shall i buy those RGB from Aputure or shall I consider buying this Godox as you are showing rightnow
    I BASICALLY LIKE WARM LIGHT PLX ADVISE i am so confused

    • @SamHolland
      @SamHolland  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi. The P60C lights are amazing but they are panel lights so will be difficult to shape the light or make softer even with the included mini softboxes.
      You could try one of these th-cam.com/video/tv-QCliNK4Q/w-d-xo.html
      Or one of these
      th-cam.com/video/ectVjprmm-w/w-d-xo.html
      With a softbox like this - th-cam.com/video/uAEx3lPhMPo/w-d-xo.html
      Hope this helps. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻🎥

    I’m thinking of getting this light but I was curious if you know if the slb - 60w was pretty much the same just with a battery? Also neewer seems to make the exact light. Are they virtually the same just rebranded?

    • @SamHolland
      @SamHolland  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey. Yeh the SLB looks great. It would be amazing to be able to use it outside without power. I haven’t tried it though so I don’t know the battery life or output. Yeh it’s the same light just a different name. 🤩 thanks for watching 🙏🏻🎥

      I have the SLB-60w and the SL-60w, they are identical video lights, except that the SLB has a battery. But the SLB-60w has a big disadvantage, as soon as the battery is empty, the light can't be operated with the included power supply. The power supply is only there to charge the battery. The SLB-60w needs an additional module and this costs as much as the SL-60w, which is absolute nonsense in my opinion. A second battery costs more than the SL-60w.
