Thanks for another great video! Just sold my F150 and I am in the market for a low mileage used luxury SUV. After seeing the aviator in person and watching this review, I might have to bring my money back to America. I was dead set on the X5, but the Aviator is something fresh.
Good vehicle to be sure. Made it to our final two choices. In the end after driving the Aviator and X7 back 2 back 3 times we went with the X7. Both dealers offered us $20K off MSRP so $63K before TTT. They both have TT V6’s, both get surprisingly good gas mileage while delivering 5.4 second 0-60. In the end the X7 just feels better put together, is vault quiet and handling is way more composed.
@@seachickens4u Based on the recent reports it looks like we dodged a bullet. The Lincoln Aviator made the top 5 worsts vehicles to buy 2020-2023. And the crazy part for us, the local BMW dealer offered us $67K for our X7 now with 28K miles on it.
No third row really needs to be adult-sized. They might as well be sized for kids as they're the only ones who'll ever climb back there. If you need to carry a bunch of adults you need a van.
If you scoot the middle row up and split the difference, then I have no problems sitting in the 3rd row. However, in any SUV this size, a third row is not meant to be spacious
Mark Miller Third rows definitely need to be comfortable for adults. If all you haul around are a bunch of small kids then a minivan might be a smarter choice for you. If you’re an executive with other adult executive friends or an older person that want a sporty and luxurious ride you’re going to opt for a SUV. These kinda folks will see more adults climbing into their third-row than small children. Also, kids grow up. So if you have kids that aren’t small anymore (teenagers) then you definitely want an SUV with an adult friendly third-row for them to be comfortable. Many kids in America, typically high schoolers, are actually larger than their parents who ride in the front seat. Manufacturers are expected to consider all households and scenarios if they want to be a top contender and that’s where Ford/Lincoln kinda dropped the ball in that crucial category. It’s marketed as a smaller Navigator but the third-row space comparison is nearly night and day.
Also, 35 here. My parents daily drove a 1967 continental in the mid 90's. Well restored, black on black. Unlike Jack, my childhood memory of Lincoln was a bit better. As far as I am concerned they have been dead since the mk3 ended. And have only recently gotten a pulse again. Nice to see.
I appreciate that they went all in on the luxury/comfort focus. I feel like if you're going for race car performance from an SUV you're in the wrong segment. Give me enough power to handle hills/freeways and I'm happy.
Marks father heard the Lincoln aviator roll up to the nursing home and he double front flipped out of his wheel chair, landing straight in the cockpit of the 2020 aviator. Miracles do happen, god bless

same here. although, i was waiting for him to pop out from the back seat at some point; i just assumed he lived in one when he's not in his mansion in the hills.
Had a chance to check one of these out and I recall that it was one of the only SUVs I have ever sat in where I felt I was driving a station wagon. But clearly a lot of time and effort put into it.
Don’t underestimate the influence that comes from the people who care about the electrification of vehicles. The Avaitor PHEV is appealing not just because of its luxury but because of its fuel efficiency. No other sized SUV with as luxurious an interior can come close to the efficiency of the Aviator PHEV.
The sweet spot with this vehicle is the reserve model with good equipment. The black label gets so expensive, you could buy a BMW X7 for about the same price.
I have one. Had it since Feb ‘20, unfortunately because of the wuhan flu I only have 4500 miles on it. It is.... Black Label, Grand Touring, pristine white, flight theme, luggage tan interior, every available option including rear seat entertainment package, yes it went into 6 figures. This is one AMAZING ride. It is also a neck snapping rocket. I drive in excite mode almost exclusively. The computer tells me I get 24.7 mpg with almost NO freeway driving. I’m a happy camper.
Bought a black label version in black this past Dec. Was a great purchase- we love it. It has been into the shop twice- once to fix the third row not folding (module update) and once to update software to enable phone as a key. We cannot wait for a long road trip. It is awesome.
@@funplaymix7710 Great question. I would not re-buy. It was in the shop A LOT and the local ford dealer that services it (largest on the east coast) is HORRIBLE. Escalations to Lincoln did not help. We had it in the shop at least 4 times for the camera problems, they finally have a recall that SHOULD address it but I no longer trust anything they say. There are some bugs that can never be addressed or re-produced. A very annoying one is it will lose seat programing to the key, and randomly WHILE DRIVING move your seat. Usually on reverse out of the garage. In addition if you plug in a phone before the screen is fully booted it will black screen, the list goes on and on. I would skip it.
Been subbed for a few months man your production quality is top notch, I like the deadpan jokes and intricate detail. Music is always sweet too. Keep doin you
I work at a Ford and Lincoln dealer and have to agree with you. Ford really missed the mark with the new Explorer, I feels rushed, like they didn't put their full effort into it, the Aviator solves all those issues. It is a good SUV for this segment. Not the best, but way better then what Lincoln has previously put out.
They aren't going to because Ford doesn't build cars anymore. The best thing you can hope for from Lincoln is a piece of shit Ford in a expensive suit. Oh wait.....
I wish they would offer a third row delete package, but the a$$hole bean counters would probably charge extra for the seats that they are no longer installing.
Lincoln would tell you to get a Nautilus. Just as Honda would tell you to get a Passport, Hyundai would tell you to get a Santa Fe, VW would say look at the Cross Sport, Toyota would say wait for the Venza, etc. etc.
Can you do segments dedicated to "In the Shoppe". Too many people repeating stats and telling us biased driving impressions. Getting cars on the lift and giving consumers the truth is priceless!
That piano music is soooooo good!! Great job goose, it has “to zanarkand” vibes or “KOR Madoka emotion” piano vibes. Strongly suggest people look these songs up on TH-cam if you read this comment.
Excellent review, gentlemen. This isn't a market category that appeals to me but if I were a "Ford guy" I cannot imagine why I'd choose an Explorer ST or "Platinum" trim over a Reserve trim Aviator. Consider the following. The move to a RWD platform in both the Explorer and Aviator should have upped the towing capacity of each significantly. In reality that advantage holds only for the Lincoln. The max towing capacity for any version of the Explorer is 5600 lbs, a measly 600 lbs more than a number of FWD (and FWD biased AWD) rivals. The Aviator is rated at 6700 lbs! And that's with the same engine and drive train specs. The most obvious difference? The Aviator is fitted with a class 4 hitch while Explorer has a class 3 unit. Less obvious are the beefier suspension components in the Aviator. Interior quality? Even the top trim Explorers have a "rental" car vibe compared to the Aviator. Just to mention one example, the infotainment screen while built on the same "Sync 3" system in the Explorer is better executed in the landscape orientation of the Aviator than the "stuck on" portrait orientation of the Explorer's screen. Driveability? I'm no fan of air suspension but it's part of a $3000 option on the Aviator Reserve trim that's unavailable on the Explorer. Skip it and the Aviator still has better suspension components than the Explorer. Then there's the 800 lb gorilla in the room -- price. A loaded ST or Platinum trim Explorer has an MSRP approaching or surpassing a $60,000. A moderately optioned Aviator Reserve trim with comparable or better features has an MSRP a bit under $65,000. Yes, you can spend much, much more for an Aviator but if one is comparing an Explorer with an Aviator there's no reason to do so. Of course, MSRP's are not necessarily an accurate gauge of real world pricing. The dealers in my area (Washington state) are currently offering fully loaded ST's and Platinum trim Explorers at $53K-$55K. No doubt to make the absurdly costly top trim Explorers more competitive with other mainstream 3 row SUV's. By the same token, however, Lincoln dealers are offering well equipped Reserve trim Aviators at $57K-$60K. Is a price premium of $5K to $6K for the Aviator worth the extra $$$? I'm at a loss to see why it isn't. Personally, I'd opt for a top trim Telluride or Palisade for less than a comparable Explorer or Aviator. But if I were a "Ford guy" prepared to pay over $50K for an SUV, I'd skip the Ford dealer and head for the Lincoln store.
Agree with everything you say. Reason we didnt get the Palisade was the anemic engine. Everything else is livable. Upgraded to the Lincoln Aviator and still excited to simply drive the car around for no reason. Didnt even consider the Explorer after seeing the plasti-crap all inside it.
Hard to believe, but this will be the new architecture for the next Mustang. I can't wait to see how Ford will achieve this while keeping weight in check.
I'm still trying to figure out why you sounded like you were masking half sarcastic hatred for the entire interior overview. That said, I'm surprised and impressed. Really cool they were able to iron out so many of the bugs with the Explorer. This bodes well for the future of this platform at least. Big hopes for the Bronco too then. I figured with some time to smooth out the platform it would be much better.
I love Lincoln and their new vehicles. HOWEVER I need them to get better at their attention to detail and fit and finish. At launch this thing was riddled with quality issues, rattles, etc. Even at 4:45 you can see slight movement in the rear center console. Mazda gets a lot of praise for impeccable fit and finish to be a regular (now going premium) brand. So Lincoln definitely has to step it up especially at this price point. No cheap knobs, rattles or noises!
my dad got one and damn is it gorgeous - he got the option with massage chairs. i drove it and it was incredible, but my ONLY gripe is that I prefer a traditional gear shift to the buttons in an automatic. A lot of cars are doing this now, so I might just have to get used to it, but for now my 2019 mazda 3 is perfect for me at my budget.
The profile...did the designers trace around a Range Rover and then just changed a few bits?? The RR must have been the benchmark for this. Looks good though, and probably more reliable than an RR.
It is the formula they followed, a smooth ride with good quality SUV. They didnt focused on other "what the market wants". You can even forgive the lack of crispness of the Sport mode(s). Only real trouble i see is Mercedes-Benz. They used the same smooth ride formula with the GLE.
They were finally freed of the 10 year contract that produced the previous vehicles (I'm looking at you, MKX/MKT)... Those vehicles barely changed at all. Yes I know this having driven one with 300,000+ miles on it... And one that was virtually brand new several model years later..
I was thinking of getting a Q7 in a year or so (depending on what happens with this micro chip situation) but I am definitely going to look at a used Aviator first, you don’t buy Lincoln’s new they are good vehicles but depreciate so much the first couple of years.
Great video as always.👍 I expected you to mention the ridiculous exhaust which emanates from underneath, not from the back as one would expect. Why do manufacturers do this??!?🙄
At first i hated this but i looked at my exhaust tips and it took over and hour for me to clean them so im not against how they did it. if you dont like it coming out the bottom you can always drill a hole in the center and cover the bottom so it looks like some others.
Mark you need to review the 2020 Explorer ST which shares the same engine as the Aviator. It might answer address some of the issues you had with the 2020 Explorer you reviewed earlier.

This bad boy had over 100,000 miles and NOT ONE SINGLE rattle. Crazy. I currently drive a 2015 explorer sport and it’s rattled since day one.
I am hoping to purchase the Aviator. If it rattles a couple of years down the road I will be passed.
@@CrochetNewsNetwork I hear you, since I wrote my comment above I sold the '17 MKZ and got a new 2020 MKZ and so far 6 months, no rattles at all solid as granite. Which means I now have jinxed it, my Dad and I used to have a Limo business, those Town cars never rattled, same Panther platform as the Crown Vic, they lasted forever!
Words of wisdom. Please bring back the funny guy in the end, he was like the icing on the cake.
Please don't. That was funny the first three times. Maybe.
It's gettin' HOT out there...Need some ....Jungle Power.
real karfixer the cherry on the cream!
I was looking forward to calling my Dad after I finished work to discuss the new goose video. Unfortunately, he suffered a massive cardiac arrest and passed away. Thank you for your videos we really enjoyed them.
I always imagine a new person watching, thinking how professional and overly mature this is. Then hitting the 0:50 second mark but still not understanding because it's said so deadpan . They leave questioning what just happened and if this should be reported to the police.
As a Car Salesman I appreciate the amount of detail that you put in your videos. As well as the color commentary.
Lincoln has come a long way since introducing the new Navigator in 2017, and I believe the Aviator picks up where the Navigator left off without missing a beat. Beautifully done review once again, SavageGeese. I'm eager to see your review on other products like the all-new Chevrolet Suburban, the new Lexus LC500, etc. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for another great video! Just sold my F150 and I am in the market for a low mileage used luxury SUV. After seeing the aviator in person and watching this review, I might have to bring my money back to America. I was dead set on the X5, but the Aviator is something fresh.
I love how you put even these unsporty SUVs up on the lift, nice unique touch to see the parts as they're being discussed.
My god 20k off you did it!
Your x7 is a twin scroll single turbo inline six btw
@@seachickens4u Based on the recent reports it looks like we dodged a bullet. The Lincoln Aviator made the top 5 worsts vehicles to buy 2020-2023. And the crazy part for us, the local BMW dealer offered us $67K for our X7 now with 28K miles on it.
Huge jack looks so squeezed in the third row, he had to fold his huge frame in half’s just to fit back there!
I've been in the back of this. Not a whole lot of room there. Definitely for kids or emergency use only.
No third row really needs to be adult-sized. They might as well be sized for kids as they're the only ones who'll ever climb back there. If you need to carry a bunch of adults you need a van.
He's not really that huge, maybe 5' 10"...
I'd love to see Lincoln and Cadillac cars on European roads.
You guys are the best reviewers hands down. Perfect combo of info and humor.
Love the Section References provided if you are scanning around. I love this channel for so many reasons, one of which is the production quality. Fantastic work that is continuously improving. Savagegeese is the only auto channel that I consistently watch the entire video.
Was waiting for that Matthew McConaughey reference
same here. although, i was waiting for him to pop out from the back seat at some point; i just assumed he lived in one when he's not in his mansion in the hills.
Go to 3:49 in the video and look at what song is playing!!!!
I think the best things about this channel are the humor and how you put the car on a lift and walk thru the engineering.. Keep it up
The sarcasm level is through the roof. I love it.
Wow. You guys do a helluva job in making Illinois look picturesque.
Luxury is all I want from a luxury SUV. If I want sporty, I buy a sedan or sports car. Good thing somebody still recognizes this.
I agree.
I'm a big fan of you and Jack tag teaming the reviews. IMO you should keep doing that. Great, balanced video.
Go Lincoln! Happy to see American companies making competitive products again.
You guys are the dynamic duo. Keep up the great work.
Well now we know where Ford's focus went...
Very good
Ford's Focus went into the Aviator's glove compartment.
The sweet spot with this vehicle is the reserve model with good equipment. The black label gets so expensive, you could buy a BMW X7 for about the same price.
...those are best looking seats i have ever seen in the history of car-seat-design! (a seat on a seat what treat...
3 years later how was your experience with the Aviator? Was it in one shop a lot? Anything major? Would your recommend?
@@ericschuster5929 oh lord your problems are indeed annoying! Does it not have wireless Apple airplay ? Also you had year 2020?
Each video looks better than the last, and the time stamps rock
Excellent intro music and punchlines, a blend of technical knowledge and sarcasms, excellent job
Surprised at the love you gave this, I think it's one of the better looking SUV's out there.
I agree.
Been subbed for a few months man your production quality is top notch, I like the deadpan jokes and intricate detail. Music is always sweet too. Keep doin you
Sounds like I may have a shot at steering my wife to replace her GL450 with this. Thanks for the honest review
Love your videos. Great to see your channel continue to grow.
id never thought id get this hype for a fomoco SUV
It’s a really amazing car. I never thought I’d fall in love with a Lincoln
I save these videos to listen to at work. Keep up the great work. I've learned so much about the specific workings of each vehicle. You the Man(s)!
Can we get this guy a million subs? He deserves it!
Lincoln needs to create a rear-wheel drive sedan based on the Mustang.
jimdemetre agreed!
They aren't going to because Ford doesn't build cars anymore. The best thing you can hope for from Lincoln is a piece of shit Ford in a expensive suit. Oh wait.....
Even though I'm not a fan of american cars this is how a true Lincoln should be
Please continue with the obscene comedy, my god is it ever needed with vehicle reviews. Thanks for the laughs and awesome content guys!
Lincoln makes a lot of appealing vehicles these days. They cost quite a bit out the door but are bargains on the used market 👍
I am buying a used aviator next year. Plan to get the 2020 in 2022
I wish they would offer a third row delete package, but the a$$hole bean counters would probably charge extra for the seats that they are no longer installing.
“Living room on wheels” sounds like the description my dad has of the Chevy Caprice he had in the 80s.
That intro piano -- serious Final Fantasy X vibes.
Dan Kiezulas i though the same
"I feel like I'm in the furniture store testing a bunch of couches" LOL
That is some great exhaust tips
Not too often that a vehicle is geese-approved. Good job, Lincoln!
15:42 I really appreciated watching this. Thanks for driving. I see you next time.
"perceived quality is good but attention to detail..." USA in a nutshell.
you win at the internet comments today.
It's already rusting on the underside, I'd like to see this thing in 5 years 😬
@@bcatz454 cheers mate :)
anyone who's offended by that comment would probably say "hey, at least we're better than the explorer."
entertainedbyidiots The new Explorer is overpriced. I have seen barely any new Explorers on the road, probably for that reason.
No cheap knobs, rattles or noises!
your reviews are concise and superb!! my "go to" auto journalist
Having had a MDX Type-S as a long term - which suv has a better ride? Which do you prefer ?
my dad got one and damn is it gorgeous - he got the option with massage chairs. i drove it and it was incredible, but my ONLY gripe is that I prefer a traditional gear shift to the buttons in an automatic. A lot of cars are doing this now, so I might just have to get used to it, but for now my 2019 mazda 3 is perfect for me at my budget.
where's turbowski? did you leave him at jamba juice?
I like how double wishbones are "luxury" items and touchscreens are nearly standard in 2020.
Winning! If you want an SUV that is. I guess us car folks are stuck with the Continental.
The profile...did the designers trace around a Range Rover and then just changed a few bits?? The RR must have been the benchmark for this. Looks good though, and probably more reliable than an RR.
Man I miss the longer format reviews.
He’s been half assing a lot he says this gets to be a little much for the pay sometimes in his live videos.
If I made a 25 minute Lincoln video five people would watch it
@@savagegeese I would, Mark. :)
@@savagegeese You can count on me, I am nr. 6
@@savagegeese lol whatever man. your viewer count says otherwise.
Great American midsize suv.
That can compete with the rest.
Finally.
It is the formula they followed, a smooth ride with good quality SUV. They didnt focused on other "what the market wants". You can even forgive the lack of crispness of the Sport mode(s).
Only real trouble i see is Mercedes-Benz. They used the same smooth ride formula with the GLE.
Since 2010 Lincoln is slowly making a comeback
They were finally freed of the 10 year contract that produced the previous vehicles (I'm looking at you, MKX/MKT)... Those vehicles barely changed at all. Yes I know this having driven one with 300,000+ miles on it... And one that was virtually brand new several model years later..
My 2014 Fusion AWD Titanium has No rattles.
Seriously.A pleasure to drive.🇨🇦
My 2020 fusion has sound system problems three times at the dealer and no fix 🤣 also transmission stutter but very comfortable
This car has good and not so good points, it's not bad points and it does make a difference !
I was thinking of getting a Q7 in a year or so (depending on what happens with this micro chip situation) but I am definitely going to look at a used Aviator first, you don’t buy Lincoln’s new they are good vehicles but depreciate so much the first couple of years.
You won’t. Biden economy ruined it for everyone
Great video as always.👍
I expected you to mention the ridiculous exhaust which emanates from underneath, not from the back as one would expect.
Why do manufacturers do this??!?🙄
To keep the soot from showing on the exposed exhaust tips, a common complaint from luxury vehicle owners.
At first i hated this but i looked at my exhaust tips and it took over and hour for me to clean them so im not against how they did it. if you dont like it coming out the bottom you can always drill a hole in the center and cover the bottom so it looks like some others.
Its for global homologation. Noise levels are tighter in the EU
Mark you need to review the 2020 Explorer ST which shares the same engine as the Aviator. It might answer address some of the issues you had with the 2020 Explorer you reviewed earlier.
Great review on another level. I wish this was available in the UK it is just what I want, everything here is hard sprung for a sporty feel. I will be looking at importing one.
Final thoughts music made me think of Final Fantasy. Keep up the good work guys.
