This is insane... The Abyss Watchers literally talk to us through their theme. They tell us how they feel and what really happened. I'm genuinely at the verge of tears.
@@airone7794 In a ruined world where we are left to scavenge its history, the fact that Abyss Watchers potentially speak directly using emotion leaden words is just chilling. You're right, the repetition of 'I was loving' is very telling of them, to put it simply. ;-;
Fuck man I thought it was just me, even before understanding the lyrics I could feel the emotion here and it just stirred something within me that brought tears up. I swear if this kind of storytelling could be brought into mainstream media holy shit we’d ascend human consciousness.
So according to this, the Abyss Watchers gave themselves readily to the Fire in order to fight against the Dark, only to realize that their sacrifice was for nothing and Fire and Dark are both constantly eating away at each other, now they seek to save others (us) from sharing their fate, but instead of just giving up and letting the dark take over like Aldrich or the Twins, they intend to fight against the Fire AND the Dark, because they still believe in their oath, even if it's been revealed to be ultimately a lie. Bad. Ass. I thought I couldn't love this boss more.
I really like your interpretaion: the english test in the video isn't completely accurate and contains some contraddictions, but I believe you found the right way of understanding it.
Anyone else notice that bit where they said the Fire *AND* Dark were fading? It makes sense if you think about it. If the natural state of the world has a set time frame for each age, it would make sense that the continuous extention of the Age of Fire would've eaten into the Age of Dark's set time. And nowhere in the lore does it say that Dark is Eternal. It's just unstopable by beings of light. Maybe that's why the Abyss Watchers are so hellbent on trying to kill each other. They've given themselves to both a Fading light and a Withering dark, and just want out of life. However, since they're still warriors, they want to go down fighting, not by suicide.
(in Japanese version) The term "logic of the world" is used. First there was gray, eternal dragons, fog. Then came the age of fire and then the age of dark. This is the logic of the world. But Gwyn committed the First Sin (Aldia - DSII) and created a new order where the flame is still kindled. The world continues to burn until only ash remains. (not dark). The first sin led that the age of dark never came. Maybe it has something to do with it
@@sadluck420 gwyn was the first sin for wanting to renounce the natural order of things. Aldia on the other hand wanted to get out of the cycle that he did not commit.(made with translate sorry)
The music just gives such a powerful spirit into the fight, and its even better with how the lords of cinder are speaking to you through their themes, knowing then what they are telling us gives their fights that sense of understanding for their relation to the first flame. Undoubtedly one of the best fights in the series, just masterful.
I've listened to this song so many times, it's always been one of my favorites but not once did I think to see what the words meant. The lyrics recontextualized everything, and now i'm crying.
Thanks for this great work! I’m astounded by your ability to pick out voices, thank you for sharing this with us. The story of the Abyss Watchers is very meaningful to me, and hearing what they are chanting gives me chills

Never in my life i had so much respect toward my enemies and never in any games where i gave them a respectful bow at the end of this fight each times.
And if you knew the lore behind it damn, they got corrupted fighting the abyss, which their master artorias the abysswalker failed to defeat. For the blood of the wolf

I would agree that the "Ashen one, nevertheless, I was loving" at the end kinda hit like a truck.

The theme is the abyss watchers telling us it was all nothing but a fucking lie
A lie will remain a lie!
