I cannot express how grateful I am that I could play a part in the making of this masterpiece. The fact that a story told as much as Artorias' still draws a lot of attention says a lot, not only about the quality of Vaati's videos but the Dark Souls title in itself. Over at my "channel" I set out to do a short cinematic of each Soulsborne title and some other games that deserve this kind of attention. Take a peek if you're interested. Thank you all and have an awesome day!
@Julio Cesar The daughters of ash mod (pretty sure it is that mod) for DSPTD edition has a kinda redeeming finale for Sif and Artorias. As an abyss ingulfed Artorias rises from the darkness while in the Sif boss fight and protects his dear friend. If you beat Artorias the darkness in him manifests as Manus and you will be aided by Sif and Artorias (in phantom forms though) to in some way finally put the souls of these two in absolution. They could not destroy the darkness of the abyss in its enterity but at least Artorias was freed from the darkness that corrupted him.

@@maj1166 Haaaaaaaaard no... The age of Fire was suposed to end dude. This was classism 101. The dark soul woud usher in the age of Men, but he was so afraid to lose power he did everything he coud to supress it, even going to the extent of mantaining a illusion of Anor Londo to manipulate the chosen undead.

When I first saw the video I was like, that's us. We redeemed it. The Chosen Undead, a nobody from the Undead Asylum put a tortured soul of a beautiful character to rest.
@@WillVRam We, the Chosen Undead, redeemed Artorias' soul and legacy by putting him to rest and finishing what he started. The Abyss, the worst of Humanity, uncontrollable rage and hunger, corrupted him into a twisted version of himself, still seeking out the dark yet unable to control the dark within him. The Chosen Undead, the best of Humanity, the strength and perserverence to push forward no matter the odds, picked up the pieces that he left off.
I love this video, but I do wish it touched on why it still matters that Artorias' legacy being a lie is irrelevant. Like Vaati says, Artorias still kills the denizens of the Abyss to this day, despite his very soul being completely swallowed by the dark. Like the Wolf Ring says in DS1, Artorias had an unbending will of steel. His will alone is why he continues to carry out his duty even after he is fully infested. His legacy of stopping Manus may be a lie, but his legacy of duty and honor at any cost, even your own death, are not. His armor was rent, his arm was broken, he gave up his shield to defend his companion, and he ventured to the only entrance of Oolacile. This was, in my mind, not an accident. Artorias knew he was going to be consumed, he knew the Abyss would corrupt him after his defeat, but he also knew that someday, someone would be able to do what he could not. He stands at the entrance of the city, killing anything that tries to get out. Over time, as he was alone, his mind and soul were consumed by darkness, but his will cannot be shaken, and he continues his duty even as a shell of his former self. I think he knew that someday, someone who could do what he could not would come, and so he gave his life to halt the abyss at the gates of the city. If they could not defeat him while his body and mind were broken, they stood no chance against Manus. But if they could defeat him, perhaps they were the one who could carry out his ancient duty. Artorias' legacy's only lie is his defeat of Manus. He stopped the Abyss for an untold amount of time at the gates of Oolacile, even losing his soul to do what he could. If that's not a legacy worth believing in (and crying for), I don't know what is.
@Julio Cesar Perhaps the real theme is that the truth doesn't matter. Only the Chosen Undead knows what happened to the Abysswalker, and isn't around to correct anybody, even if they had the desire to. All anyone knows is that Artorias walked into the Abyss, and the Abyss withdrew. A hero died and the dark was pushed back. Does it matter who did it? Not really, all that matters then is what makes the better song. A nameless, faceless hero does not inspire, and has no story to tell. And so, they are forgotten, as perhaps they should be, and their deeds become the myths of heros, those who inspire others. Ultimately, that Artorias fell to the Abyss only heightens his heroism as he walked it regardless; and in his sacrifice, he did more than he ever could have done in his life, given that he inspires a legion to take up his sword. The truth doesn't really matter at the end of the day, so much as what the myth inspires. So its only natural that the lie is a better story, its meant to be.
@Julio Cesar I think it makes for a much more interesting character than, Artorias was the "good" guy and went and stopped the dark but somehow died doing it so sacrificed himself. It's an immeasurably more interesting story that he failed, chose to save his companion and lock himself in with the abyss to stop it as best he could. And regardless, if we're to believe the story of the game, and that we as the protagonist are powerful enough to defeat every lord soul, and Gwyn, then of course we're strong enough to beat artorias and are likely the best bet for defeating manus anyway.
@Julio Cesar I find your opinion very interesting, because I think you are right and wrong. Personally, I think the way we interpret the lore of DS reveals how we interpret actual myth and legend. And based on my outlook I feel Artorias's legend is a lie, far more often than not it's some nameless individual who accomplishes the impossible only for some mythic man to gain credit for the deed. It's the unsung heroes who remain the truest heroes in my belief, because the intent behind their actions is not one of glory, they know no one will remember them, that's their path. And so they are terrified of failure and death. Their undertaking is one of empathy and they serve its call. Unlike Artorias, I think his last words before the abyss takes him is indicative of arrogance, an appetite for glory, and tragically of repentance for his arrogant vainglory. He thought himself invincible, and he paid the price, the fact he held the gates while wounded and swallowed by the abyss, I think is evidence he failed more from arrogance than lack of ability.
I wish the part about him STILL doing it were true, but you travel BACK IN TIME and kill him, eventually taking on his legacy. He is unfortunately dead, slain by the player after being corrupted by the Abyss. Regardless, though, he is still a hero.
If you defeat artorias first before facing sif, he tackles you, smells you, recognizes artorias is dead, Dawn's a saddened look upon his face, then grabs his brothers sword and attacks you.
@@AurelionTheStoic No, that's not how it goes at all. Sif already knows Artorias is dead, she's guarding his grave after all. What she recognizes is YOU, the person who redeemed Artorias, put him out of his misery, saved her, and kept Artorias' legacy alive by finishing his mission and ending Manus. The sad look is because she doesn't want to fight you but is duty-bound to defend her master's grave.
I love how Artorias failed to defeat the Abyss because he had never faced that part of himself. His very lack of darkness was his undoing. It makes me think of a fearless warrior who is forced, for the first time in their life, to experience true fear. Without the experience and understanding of how to overcome it, it destroys even the mightiest hero!
@@josebenardi1554 because all of Gwyn's offspring had no evil or darkness in them and commited horrible acts due it that part of themselves... Seriously though even Gwyn had darkness within him as the power of light was effectively stolen power from an external source.

@@sonofsparda3767 I remember fighting him the first time like 6 years ago. I was sitting in my bed with my laptop, and I was just kinda stuck. I was sad about for like a day.
When I look back on this game, and following all the events in order, I realized that Alvina downplays the legend for everyone else because she knows that one day, the one chosen to end it all will come. Why does she know? Cause she helped that person to rescue Sif from the dark, the one who does not belong. The measures put in place to protect the grave were to insure that no other could claim the secret of abyss walking, except the chosen undead. For they would come, knowing the truth behind it all, because they helped shape that legend. Alvina feigns ignorance when the Chosen Undead appears, pretending not to recognize them yet allowing them to proceed unchallenged where all others failed... Perhaps Sif had wanted it this way. Having long decided that no other would have the secret of his Master, except the one who liberated them both. So Sif fought and defended his Masters grave, refusing to let anyone defeat him, no matter how old and tired he became. For he waited for that one person to come....the one person he wanted to bequeath the secret of his Master too. And when they do come, they recognize this person immediately, the scent of the one they burned into their memory. Upon realizing who it is, they are happy. Because now its finally time to fulfill his duty...For Sif would not allow himself to fall to anyone else but this person. The Chosen Undead is...reluctant, unwilling to act. But Sif his tired, he wants this to end by the Chosen Undead's hand. But honorably he must fall, it is the only way it can end...Sif pleads with the Chosen Undead to put an end to his suffering. Reluctantly, the Chosen Undead complies... One more battle....an honorable duel to the death....his wait was finally over.
Seeing Sif recognizing you, knowing you the one that was there and saved him, but still couldnt give his master's soul because was his duty to protect his grave... Man.. I fought him crying in my second playthrough because i knew all this, now im crying again.

The way Sif's eyes look at you the first time is like he is seeing a resemblance of his master inside you. Sif is duty bound to stop you because he did not want the same disaster fall upon you. However seeing your determination to seek the abyss made him remember his lost master and thus, in his last attempt, he took the sword to prove your worth. Whether you are worthy to continue his master legacy or not.
In this scene Sif specifically recognizes YOU, you have to have played the dlc and have saved him from the abyss before this fight to see it. He remembers the scent of the person who saved him and who stopped the abyss that killed his master
@@julianadams3710 Yet at the same time, you see his expression soften, almost in sorrow, as if to ask why you have come to his master's grave for the covenant. He doesn't want to fight you, yet he has no choice since he is duty-bound. But he hopes you are still strong enough, just like all those years ago, so that the covenant will no longer be needed, and his duty be finally finished.
Mans gave an all or nothing to tear into the Abyss and rip Manus to shreds. In the end, despite the helplessness of his ultimate fate, he kept his ally safe, and even when both corrupted by the abyss and crippled, maintained enough control to continue slaying monstrosities. I'd say, despite him not beating manus, he's still a legend!
"Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. And if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you" -- Friedrich Nietzsche.

Out of all the legends The masterpiece that is Bloodborne The ambitious Elden Ring All the stories throughout Dark Souls (Gael and, Ornstein/The Nameless God-Gwynn’s son being my fav’s as well) And the very melancholy lore of Demons Souls It’s pretty evident that Artorias & Sif, then later on The Abyss Watchers…were tales of tragedy written masterfully. I would like you to know that you single handedly ruined Artorias for me. He is now a forever-meme. Glory to (gasp) ARTORIAS, his Dark Sword, and his Shield of Want!
Artorias is my son's favorite character in video game history (and he's played a bunch of them). Watching this video gave me some good insight into the character and a bit into my son as well. Even started playing Dark Souls myself and almost ready to do the DLC section in Darkroot Basin. Looking forward to it. Very nicely done video, thank you.
It took me 30 tries to defeat Artorias (hardest boss I fought in DS1, didn't do the next 2 in the DLC)--but only a couple tries after I learned the throwing knife trick. I may have been slightly under-leveled. What a fight, that was crazy. I finished DS1 after that fight, had enough. lol On to DS3 when it goes on sale on Steam!
I must say, you’re an absolute lad of a father for letting your son’s taste in characters and games influence you in a way to watch something to understand it more, and play the game the very character comes from regardless of how hard it is. Major props to you, this series is phenomenal, and we’re glad to have you on board. You sound like one bad ass dad 👍
Me: "Oh, I'll be fine." (Cut scene) Sif stands ready to crush this intruder, another invader into the grave of the man that saved his life. Then...a scent. He recognizes you from so long ago. He pulls his paw back, this way feeling wrong. No. You were a fighter. You deserved better. Slowly you reach for him, showing you mean no harm: Don't you remember me? Don't you understand what I have to do? But Sif ducks his head away. You had a job to do. So did he. His bones ached from the cold, his joints creaked with tales of forgotten fights, and memories...memories so heavy it seemed that Sif should just fade, that it would be better off that way. But what would Artorias think of him then? Sif howls, a bitter sweet note that says, "My old friend...I will see you shortly. But I will show you that I deserve to be at your side," before picking up the sword that they both wielded so long ago. VaatiVidya: "Maybe in death, he can find his friend Artorias again." Me: /sobbing incoherently Beautiful video.

It's been a rough and lonely ride for you hasn't it, old friend.. Losing your best friend so early on... Artorias would be so proud of you.
Pretty sure the Abyss Watchers is Artorias’s soul split to them all watching over the Abyss. Even in death he still wants to fulfill his duty and stop the abyss
I have always felt a sense of immense honor when I fight them. The old tradition of partaking of wolf's blood and writhing against the abyss makes them a very distinct group.
@@StallionFernando Recently learned it is, was disappointed, but it does make the Watchers cooler for knowing what the Abyss does, and still fighting it
First time I played it, when I came across Sif, I was all "fuck you guys, I'm not killing no dog!" Then, I found the Four Kings, and had to Google how to not instantly die. *I was shook*. With a heavy heart, I went back, and killed Sif. NEW GAME PLUS! I postponed killing Sif for as long as possible, even going through the DLC beforehand (for the first time). Coming across puppy Sif made me so happy! And together, Sif, and I ventured into the Heart of Darkness, and fulfilled Artorius' mission by slaying the Heir of the Pygmy. I then had to do it...I had to kill Sif...upon venturing to the grave site, I encountered Sif, *and it broke my god damned heart*. Seeing Sif remember who I was, and then reluctantly take up the sword, clearly torn between not killing her friend, and ensuring her friend wouldn't come to the same fate as her master by protecting the Covenant at all costs... Who would have thought that a game with like 80 lines of total dialogue would have such impactful character development?
I simply have no words to describe how amazing this video, this piece of art, actually is. Thank you TheParryGod for the shots, and thank you Lore Master Vaati for this incredible writing, pacing and editing. Only one so dedicated could have given shape to this purposefully complexe narrative. I talk about archives also because I believe your work is very close to that of a research scholar. The way you pick up the lore elements scattered within details of the world, offer hypothesis and produce an interpretation backed up by a visual, but also written format reminds me of the struggle that I'm experiencing right now as a Phd candidate in policy history. Your rigor and thoroughness are exemplary, and I can assure you that your work will be remembered because of it. I can't wait to see what you have to offer in the future, but in the meantime I'll head for that patreon link, I've waited for to long to contribute!

New player here. I am mostly unaware of the plot of the game, but when I reached the battle with Sif, all I saw at first was a massive dog beating me around with an huge fucking sword. But after a couple tries, I got better, and realized that I was fighting a dog with a sword in its mouth. My last attempt went smoothly, and before long, Sif was struggling to stand and fight. I may not have known who Sif was back then, but I sure felt bad slashing at a defenseless animal. Poor boy
Eh, I'm having fun eith Dark Souls, but I'm not all that much into it. I'll probably move to DS2 once I beat the base game. I own the Prepare to die edition, btw. I don't even know if that version has DLCs
It's possibly the one physical gesture of empathy in the game outside of Oscar throwing a key into the chosen undead's cell, but that was off screen. That hand meant a lot...

I often find myself revisiting this video, because it's such an incredible a beautifully crafted storyline. And it never fails to make me cry when I hear the line, "maybe in death, he can find his friend Artorias again." Such a beautiful and meaningful way to close off the story.
It brought a tear to my eye thinking about Slave Knight Gael believe it or not. Artorias's fight against the creatures of the abyss meant he was still in there despite his madness. As was Gael even when he became the "Red Hood," for what was left of him was a knight setting out to finish the world fit for man, the pigment. What was inspiring is that both fought with tenacity, that a slave knight and a legend across time both possessed the same bravery regardless of status. What brought a tear to my eye was their unyielding commitment. Great video VaatiVidya, as always. Cheers.
Gael was the same out come with different motives. Would you kill a bunch of monsters infecting a town and making them monsters and sacrifice yourself and become a monster yourself in the progress to help destroy it and eventually cause it to be gone forever?thats what artorias did, would you go through and kill an entire race for,a new world but end up becoming a monster?that's what gael did I think gael had bad execution but good motives
Artorias is a God, Gael is only Man. Artorias was corrupted by the abyss, Gael lived throughout the countless times the first flame was rekindled ( slave knights served as frontline fodder for Gwyn's divine army ) yet all the Gods are gone, even the first Chosen Undead served his purpose in the first Age of Fire. Gael would live longer than the Gods, fulfill more than the Gods, be responsible for gathering the materials to building a new world, but he would die as the Red Hood, only to be forgotten and acknowledged only as a murderous creature. Artorias is a false hero, Gael is an unsung hero.
Artorias is one of my favorite dark souls bosses/characters. Shame we only get to see him in his twilight, but then again that could be said for just about every boss. Still a dope boss and the abyss greatsword is one of my favorites
Reminds me of the prequel game I want. One centered around the four knights of Gwyn, you get to play as either Ornstein(fighting dragons and protecting Gwyn’s house) or Ciaran(hunting down humans who defy Gwyn’s rule). We’d get to see Artorias in his prime and a little of how Gwyn falls to insanity in his desperation to keep the flame alight.
@@musclecarenjoyer It is considered the strongest in the DS franchise since he killed all lords of cinder and more (Feats from Chosen Undead and the Bearer of the Curse)
@@musclecarenjoyerhe has the best feats but I wouldn't consider him the strongest necessarily, characters like Gael were stronger faster and more durable the reason he's able to beat those characters is because of the undead curse. the part that really gets me is his voice line: "all of you, forgive me, for I have availed you nothing" really shows that his fight with you was just to save his honor and redeem himself at least a tiny bit shit makes me cry man
I always imagine my character crying after Sif's death. Sif wasnt just a guardian that sought no evil: we saved her from the abyss, and she helped us fight Manus. Killing her, even fighting her, is cruel. You may not have died after the fight but this is no victory.
After the fight? How about during the whole fight? The amount of duty-bound regret on Sif's face when she takes up the sword is proof of the emotion right from the beginning...
Anddd then you look at your character and notice that as alway your character is emotionless and look dead inside because no facial animation Thanks fromsoft i guess
Daniel Santelices I adore the Artorias voice acting, and can’t for the life of me figure out why it was cut from the DLC. Always reminded me of James McAvoy...

Every time I re-watch this video it's always that one line that brings me to tears. "Maybe in death, he can find his friend Artorias again." It's just so powerful
With the addition of the lore of Dark Souls 3, I feel like you create a lot more of an in-depth look at all of these characters and their tragic tales, and I couldn't be more excited for what's to come. I loved your original Prepare to Cry and I know I'll love the Remastered
She? Sif is canonically a boy. The bestest boy in fact You do have to go deep to actually find the reference as he since it's mostly kept gender neutral.
Actually, as you enter the graveyard and head to his masters grave, as he plunges you and recognizes you as his ally, forfilling his masters duty at last, knowing that u have to walk the abyss yet again, Sif no longer fights to protect the grave, he fights to avoid you suffering the same fate as Artorias, he tests you as a friend.
I always think, “I’m better this time around. This video won’t have a big emotional effect on me this time.” And then, at 15:10, the Vaati delivers that line... It always gets me teary eyed. Damn this story for being so heartbreaking and beautiful!
First video of yours I’m watching. Not even 3 minutes in and I can hear Alex Roe’s remix of the Abyss Watchers, All for One, which I’ve recently been listening to on loop for hours at a time! I’ve got a GREAT feeling about you!
Okay, could the last line of this poem by Dylan Thomas not be a message from Artorias subtly throwing shade at Gwyn? “And you, my father, there on the sad height, Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray. Do not go gentle into that good night. Rage, rage against the dying of the light.”
I wonder what sif was thinking and feeling, when she sniffed on us and realized this man she has to fight was the very companion who helped her defeat manus. That little change of emotion through her eyes really broke my heart
Good lord... I did not expect to have to hold back tears this hard... Such a beautifully dark, heartbreaking story. I wish their story didn't have to end this way... But I hope Sif and Artorias were reunited in the afterlife
I swear, no piece of media made me feel as amazed as this series did. The amount of detail and the concepts presented in it made me cry a few times out of sheer admiration. No kidding, it helped me through tough times, both in the past and recently. It'll forever be a masterpiece for me and one I'll always treasure very close to heart.
Still after his corruption, Artorias had something more to give: a challenge to overcome, to prove us worthy of fighting the abyss. And so we did, and his legend is still there to inspire others to fight against the inevitable. To that I can only say: be strong and brave, don’t you dare go hollow
You know, as the Lore has been shaped and our understanding has grown over the years, it's become clearer and clearer to me that Gwyn was a massive hypocrite. He rose up against the rule of the Dragons, violently changing the status quo and ending their eternal rule of the world. He then immediately turns around and betrays a key ally, so that HIS rule, could be eternal. I mean its become clear, the Dark was not dangerous originally, the pygmy's could control it and wield it safely, just as Gwyn could control and wield the Light. Then Gwyn tried to restrain the Dark, so that his Light would remain dominant and what did he succeed in doing with that? He caused the Dark to become uncontrollable and toxic in a way it wasn't before he tried to bind it. He feared the Dark so much, that he wound up making it considerably more dangerous than it was before. I mean we now know, the Furtive Pygmy almost certainly wasn't trying to overthrow Gwyn, he and his people fought alongside Gwyn and based on how dedicated they were to Filianore, they likely sought no quarrel with the gods. Gwyn was the first of many to sacrifice themselves to keep the first flame burning and so far as I can see, that was Gwyn enacting a botched solution, to a problem HE CAUSED.
The first time playing through dark souls it seemed like Gwyn was the good guy, and he sacrificed himself for the good of the world, but in reality, he was weak and unwise, and the enemy of humanity.
not a hypocrite more like a hmmmm I don't even no a word for it Gwyn just feared the return of a new age of ancients because after the age of fire was foretold an age of dark then balance would be restored a new timeless grey era the second age of ancients and to prevent that Gwyn Lord of sunlight had to become the first Lord of cinder and prolong the age of fire as long as he can witch in turn yes did corrupt the dark and make it from a age of recovery and rest to a toxic and most chilling time an age that should be avoided at all cost but I mean as we see at the end of time (not all time but just the ages of fire and dark) with uncle Gael a second grey era isn't all bad I mean a bit lonely but not bad at all sooooo no hypocrite is most def not the word for Gwyn best I can come up with that is the closest to what he really is would be coward/hero
It is the nature of those who held power for too long, for once the power was stripped then his existence became naught but ash since we all know power corrupts. Gwyn is not a hypocrite for me but an egotistic and self-serving man just like a typical bad king in fantasy stories. In DS2 there were implications that the so called "first sin" is the Gwyns's botched act of prolonging his age of fire that messed with fate's machinations and caused this whole shitshow to begin win. Fighting a fixed fate is fine and dandy and all but when the consequence gets this bad i have no qualms to call him a bad king doing a simple act of not wanting to get off the throne by all means necessary
"Men often create the things they dread. Men of peace create engines of war. Invaders create anvengers." I know it's sort of corny to quote this, but it's very true. Gwyn was so scared that he fucked up. Badly.
What an irony that I just thought of. Who's soul is darker? The souls of men that had the alleged Dark soul or the soul of God that hungers for his rule to be dominant in the world? I only wish that we can have Dark Souls 4: The Age of Men. That would be an interesting title.
Holy heck - So I started playing this series before dark souls II was released but was a teenager and was not able to fully comprehend or appreciate the story. But now I'm older, and I'm actually able to appreciate how massive this story is.... It was the combination of the music, editing and scripting that was so masterfully interwoven together that near the very end when showing the cut scene prior to fighting Sif... I started crying. The entire video had engrossed me so heavily and that finale really just hit different for me. The fact that you can make someone feel those emotions and have a response such as that is special... upmost respect for you Vaati.
I never played Dark Souls or any of the souls game. Yet, Vidya's storytelling skills make me feel...the emotion. This is a really beautifull masterpiece, both from storytelling and from cinematic point.
Dude... You missed out on a journey of gaming and gamers which had changed industry never will we go back to old standard of fantasy action RPG. You have to play at least BloodBorne and DS3
Step 1: get notification Step 2: get hype as you open the video Step 3: riposte that mfing like button because you know this will be good Step 4: forget about the rest of the world for 17 minutes and 3 seconds Step 5: praise Vaati
When sif back his head off not letting you touch him, he is like “I gotta do this, if he can’t beat me, he will be no match for the abbys, I can’t let this happen, not again” he is just trying to protect you... seeing his best friend being consumed, without been able to do nothing branded his soul, he will not let that happen again, specially not with an old friend.
So with this, I just realized the hesitation and sorrow that Sif briefly shows when fighting him in is because you've met before. That scene will hit the feels like a truck from now on. And I love every bit of it.

@Julio Cesar The daughters of ash mod (pretty sure it is that mod) for DSPTD edition has a kinda redeeming finale for Sif and Artorias. can you help me explaining what is the "the best of humanity that redeemed it"?
I'm struggling to understand Vaati's videos.
@@androski5247 thank you!
I liked Artorias, and I really give no twice of a shit that he didn'tkill malos, mate.
that's just your opinion.
I wish the part about him STILL doing it were true, but you travel BACK IN TIME and kill him, eventually taking on his legacy. He is unfortunately dead, slain by the player after being corrupted by the Abyss. Regardless, though, he is still a hero.
So can we talk about how nothing will ever be as emotionally impactful in Dark Souls as the first-person scene with Sif?

Abyss Watchers
Dullahan Um, no, as much as I love them, my favorite edgy fanboys will never be quite as sad as the story of the best pupper, Sif.
Meanwhile, we, who died many and many times over and over, defeated the source of darkness and stopped the abyss of Oolacile from spreading

@@josebenardi1554 because all of Gwyn's offspring had no evil or darkness in them and commited horrible acts due it that part of themselves... Seriously though even Gwyn had darkness within him as the power of light was effectively stolen power from an external source.
@@iank472 You're conflating darkness with evil. The fact that Gwyn's offspring did heinous acts only confirms that being born out of a soul of light are not wholly good.
@@josebenardi1554 the darkness in Dark Souls is an all consuming force that consistently corrupts those it touches. All the stories throughout Dark Souls (Gael and, Ornstein/The Nameless God-Gwynn’s son being my fav’s as well)

When Sif tackles and smells us, the great wolf recognizes us, the person who redeemed Artorias, put him out of his misery, saved the Princess, and kept Artorias' legacy alive by finishing his mission and ending Manus. Me: "Oh, I'll be fine."
(Cut scene)
Sif stands ready to crush this intruder, another invader into the grave of the man that saved his life.

A fair bit of that poem actually applies to the series
aatrox? good old aatrox?
Love Dylan Thomas. So influential
Heh, was about to say that before I saw your comment. I've never thought about how the poem resonates with dark souls.
Cheers.
Underrated comment. Couldn't agree more.

That's the idea of Dark souls, you fight old legends far from their prime. The only champion that is capable of beating everything is The Ashen One
@@j.c-6424 the ashen one is the strongest?
@@musclecarenjoyer It is considered the strongest in the DS franchise since he killed all lords of cinder and more (Feats from Chosen Undead and the Bearer of the Curse)
@@musclecarenjoyerhe has the best feats but I wouldn't consider him the strongest necessarily, characters like Gael were stronger faster and more durable the reason he's able to beat those characters is because of the undead curse. So if you were to swap around the bearer of the curse or the chosen undead around with the ashen one not much would change because they have the same method of beating gael as the ashen one did the only difference is that they didn't because he wasn't in they're games.

Killing her, even fighting her, is cruel. You may not have died after the fight but this is no victory.
After the fight? How about during the whole fight? The amount of duty-bound regret on Sif's face when she takes up the sword is proof of the emotion right from the beginning...

DS Lore is so immense. Thanks Vaati for compiling everything from DS1 and DS3.
Still after his corruption, Artorias had something more to give: a challenge to overcome, to prove us worthy of fighting the abyss. And so we did, and his legend is still there to inspire others to fight against the inevitable. To that I can only say: be strong and brave, don’t you dare go hollow
Has elden ring not turned u hollow yet
"Imagine what Sif is feeling when you cross paths again, years later..."
Nope, you can't make me. ... I promised myself I wouldn't... ... Dammit.
Dude... You missed out on a journey of gaming and gamers which had changed industry never will we go back to old standard of fantasy action RPG.
You have to play at least BloodBorne and DS3
@@abhishekparmar6702 Acting like this series changed rpgs forever is clearly not true...
My opinion, for whatever it's worth.
You have to play this game
Step 1: get notification
Step 2: get hype as you open the video
Step 3: riposte that mfing like button because you know this will be good
Step 4: forget about the rest of the world for 17 minutes and 3 seconds
Step 5: praise Vaati
Step 6: Cry
Step 7: ??????
Step 8: Bloodborne 2
When sif back his head off not letting you touch him, he is like “I gotta do this, if he can’t beat me, he will be no match for the abbys, I can’t let this happen, not again” he is just trying to protect you... seeing his best friend being consumed, without been able to do nothing branded his soul, he will not let that happen again, specially not with an old friend.
Explaining it in this way just make my crying worse
So with this, I just realized the hesitation and sorrow that Sif briefly shows when fighting him in is because you've met before.
That scene will hit the feels like a truck from now on. And I love every bit of it.
