Haven't played much with the Orcas, but always remember its power troubles. Because as a Captain I enjoy actually being able to use the full potential of my engines... without browning out the whole sub.
You can use the batteries to supplement the reactor. I've used this set up with both the Humpback and the Winterhalter. The batteries will supplement the reactor in power spikes and when the demand decreases the reactor will recharge the batteries in preparation for the next spike.
@@boon1580 Just wire the POWER OUT on a battery to POWER IN on the engine; When the power from the junction box / reactor can't supply the engines needs, the battery fills the deficit. When the reactor catches up, it charges the battery like normal.
@@boon1580 in case of orca 2(didnt waste time with first one) there are 2 relays right next to the batteries(top relay controlling the output of power and bottom one controlling the recharge). for functional overvoltage and undervoltage protection you need 2 'greater than' components and 6 cables/wires. install 2 greater than components in the reactor room. with first component, place load out cable from reactor to the top left of 'greater than' and power out from the reactor to the bottom left then the output to the comparison to the upper relay controlling the batteries to the set_state input. then on second 'greater then' do the opposite so power out goes to first signal input and load goes to second, then output of that to the bottom relay. set batteries at about 30% recharge(or find setting that suits your needs). it makes batteries fully automatic so you can salvage the 2 cables that go from the navigation console to the relays in the battery/electrical room (the ones that input into state_toggle of both relays).
easily the most beautiful ship in the game. the engine power can be easily solved with reactor automation and thorium fuel rod. Electrician can produce 2 t-rod with 1 materials.
Running an Orca II on my current campaign and I really like it. Upgrades/Thorium rods help fix power issues and getting a pulse laser on the upper right hardpoint gives it good forward facing firepower with the double coilgun on the keel. It's maneuverability/speed makes missions less of a grind and a good captain can easily kite creatures and make transport missions take less than 5 minutes.. The only problem is the nav terminal location, but I like the layout more than the standard Orca since the junction compartment isn't split into two rooms. I don't like either Orca for random missions though, without any upgrades it can't use the full power of it's engine and the starting captain helm skill is a bit low.
hello! Is orca 2 any good right now ? My crew has been using humpback lately , but we started having some problems with resources and money. We were thinking on getting it ,but the fact that the resource locker and the crafting table arent connected to each other seems like a big deal
It can be a bit of a downside, aye. Personally I find the Orcas comparable, but if you have a crew who's competent you may want to consider a different sub like the Typhons or Azimuth.
@@Techpirate_Productions thanks for answering! We thought of getting typhon but its only 5 of us and were relatively new to the game , ill definitely check out azimuth .Ty
I'd like to put out that Orca 1 is better than Orca 2 in terms of survivability incase of flooding. Orca 1 has most of the critical sections in atleast a room away. Orca 2 has the reactor sharing the flood borne engine room, while the bridge is up front on the nose.
Hi, do you know why my Orca 2 has a "discharge coils" button on the nav terminal, despite the fact that it shouldn't have the feature? It also has a button called "battery array", do you know what that does?
After some investigation in the sub editor, it turns out the Orca 2 actually has a rear mounted discharge coil, attached at the very rear of the sail side. Not sure what it's doing there, but its in a bit of an awkward location. As for the battery array button, it toggles on or off the submarine's backup power array, located in the junction room. The batteries won't supply the submarine unless they are toggled on at the console.
@@Techpirate_Productions if you use battery array, does it turn off the reactor as well, or use both at the same time? (Also thank you so much for all the help, and I love your content, will def keep up with your vids in future!)
@@geodude03 No problem at all, happy to help with the questions! (If you also want general sub chatter, I'd highly recommend the Barotrauma discord, my own is rather sparse at the moment.) The Battery Array button doesn't automatically turn off the reactor, you can pull from both simultaneously, or just run on battery power if you wish as the activations are independent.
I dont know how Orca 2 is an improvement to Orca 1, despite being inferior in every aspect. It even more prone to accident. I accidentally press depth charge button multiple times when trying to open the door and accidentally nuke one of the crew who happen to be inside engineering. No crew rest area meaning you need calixanide all the time, you cant pull trick like two doses of ABX and sleep it to counter its internal organ debuff. You need to yell so everyone start manning the gun. In orca 1 you can jump between sonar and gun without running 55m. the only plusses i can think off are junction box are Dugong like, which is easier to fix with only one engineer.
The orca is my primary sub right now, I started on easy so I got to pick it from the start and it has served well. Are there are simple modifications I can make to help the reactor issues? I have noticed it runs low on power when I change direction too quickly and it consumes fuel rather rapidly.
We keep checking the description for a discord! Maybe one day!
I can promise you it's in the works! I'm finalizing a few details but I promise to have you a link sometime tomorrow (likely later in the day)
@@Techpirate_Productions wonderful to hear! We look forward to it!

another great video but i'd like to see the typhons 1 & 2 next. thank you
Very good video, can’t wait for the next one
Imma go and guess that the orca 2 may be the successor to the orca 1
Please do Winterhalter!! My crew and I are running one right now!!!
Will do! My plan right now is to cap this series off with the Winterhalter, but that time is fast approaching!
