Though my heart lies with the herja I am current kastrel captain, as an electrical hobbiest she serves my crew and I well, after retirement from my service of the coalition I actually sold the azimuth given to me and purchased my kastrell and now practically live on her.
Ah yes, BALLAST FLORA BAIT. This ship is the MOST VULNERABLE SHIP IN THE ENTIRE FLEET to Ballast Flora infestations, and can be utterly overtaken in less then 2 minutes thanks to the easily accessible power boxes for Ballast Flora to feed on. I hate this ship so much. Equip your electrician with a flame thrower and have them stay vigilant because one Ballast infection will overtake the sub VERY QUICKLY.
@@baronprocrastination1722 It slows its growth down but if you catch on too late (and you have a small ass time window in this sub) then the whole compartment gets flooded with chemical burn inducing gas the flora uses to protect itself and kill the crew, unlike in traditional ballast tank subs where thge gas is confined to the tanks themselves, in this hip its at liberty to fill the entire electrical compartment.
While the Kastrull’s ballast layout seems like a good idea, it is a solution searching for a problem. The open topped nature of the ballasts, as well as the position in the middle, generates unique problems for the submarine. In my experience, the pumps installed in the ballasts are far more powerful than the pumps installed elsewhere in the ship, meaning that the extra flood absorption provided by the ballasts is instead passed to the engineering deck, which is prone to flooding anyways due to the ample drainage pathways. The simple fact is, ballasts work with water in them.
Perhaps the junction boxes being located near the ballast tanks could be considered a boon? Any potential water damage to the electricals will quickly be pumped out
While the open ballasts can handle a large amount of water, the gaps between the tanks and the lack of hatches in the access shafts mean that all water that enters the junction hall goes to the fabrication room. If modified to have hatches in the access shafts and expanding the ballast tanks to fill in the gaps, you not only just increase the overall drainage of the sub but you also increase it's descent velocity from 8 km/h to 10km/h. A big boost in performance for 2 small tweaks.
One of the worst of expensive sub. Ballast on the middle of the ship, this have myriad of issues. layout worse than Humpback, i mean you need to cut middle section to make it easier to move around. Also if you got electrocuted when fixing junction box youll get thrown down into the engineering, i almost died because of that. Anyway, my favorite subs are R-29 and Orca.
Bots are so dumb on this ship. We played a whole campaign recently with my 2 friends and bought Kastrull. Bots constantly breaking in the engine room, as well as in the drone. They are just running in sircles in one place, getting stuck on the ladders and this goddamn drone. Otherwise I think it is a strong sub honestly. But you have to have a full team of humans to enjoy it
I actually like how the Kastrul's intended design in lore would've been one of the best subs but it's almost completely crippled by the badly improvised electrical systems
theres a good reason you always see the kastrul wrecked on the ocean floor

I heard turning off your reactor helps with ballast flora.

Gift the flora a grenade, problem solved in few seconds
If you watch the ballast once after repairing the junction boxes you can literally avoid this.

It has Glass in the Sonar room, how much glue have they been sniffing
I can't get enough of these! I wish I could make a mod adding your descriptions to the logbooks found on wreckage ships.
i love those descriptions. I would want this guy even on my custom ships showroom!
Me and my friends bought the sub for the drone only to be greeted with a bugged drone instead lmao
I love these vids its really interesting to see the history of designing these subs (also I feel like the berilia would make a good vid)
Man your videos explaining the subs are great as hell you dont know how much this help!
Also PLS next one Azimuth
You got it friend! Azimuth is next on the block
@@Techpirate_Productions Maybe retired captains will be added into it? I dunno, just have to find out.
@@GreyStormPlays Not quite, but I think you'll enjoy the story I put together for it!
Just waiting on TH-cam to finish processing, but the Azimuth episode goes live tonight!
Love this!
My favorite ship, the GOAT

XDDD the design is hilariously bad
kastrull is swedish and im swedish
i love it
very good
Man if only the god damn AI wouldn't get stuck in the drone
Great video

Your videos are awesome!
🔥🔥
If no one saw those crew quarters had some not well screwed in vents if you catch mah drift
Thank you for covering our favorite sub! Though we don't appreciate the slander of Her children! Keep it up!
