Had nearly the exact same thing happen in a months-long weekly Barotrauma campaign with my friends. We were something like 200 meters from the outpost after a pretty eventful leg of the journey. We were looking forwards to a resupply, the coilguns were only loaded with standard ammo to fend off the occasional crawler as we did not expect any more significant threat. Suddenly, Thresher swarm. The bridge was one of the first locations breached. Security died fighting, but died nevertheless. The only two people who manage to survive in the rapidly sinking sub were a mechanic and engineer who managed to burn and bludgeon down the Threshers that survived fighting the rest of the crew. Luckily the sub settled on a rock shelf only 50 meters from where we were attacked rather than sink into the fathomless depths, and managed to effect enough repairs to limp into port. We wound up successfully completing the campaign in that sub, and that was probably the closest we ever came to wiping.
