    Very smooth running flathead V8. It's good to see that you kept your F1 as original as possible. Thanks for not mutilating it into some bizarre custom job. The cab interior seems more quiet on your drive than I would have expected.

    Love the whine of that double clutch transmission! Music to my ears!❤
    I call it a double clutch because of how it needs to be shifted.

    The standard trans whining noise brings back great memories when I was 15 and my Dad would take me for a long ride. And that solid ride was amazing. He had a black 51 F1 with a 6 cylinder flathead that I helped him rebuild when I was 9 back in the 70s. I believe it was a 254 cid. I loved the way he drop down to 2 or 3 mph in 3rd gear and take off again. We would get a lot of thumbs up everywhere we went. It had 2 huge yellow round lights bolted on the original chrome front bumper and only the bullets on the grill where chromed. He sold it to a guy from England and as soon as he handed over the title, the new owner said, "I'm going to chop it and drop it." My Dad regretted selling it at that moment. One month later, the new owner called from England and said, "When the 51 was driven off the boat, my family said not to touch it." He returned for another 51.

    My uncle / cousins had one when we were kids, they and I just starting to drive. About 65-66. Uncle had a little DIY snowplow, vacuum hoist, and it would not hoist very high. The kids, slick winter day, caught a RR track with the blade and stopped it DEAD. One of the boys broke the windshield with his head. They were both lucky they were not hurt. it was a flathead six, not a V8, crash box 4 speed. I always LOVED the growl those gearboxes made. I'm 75, one of the cousins died of cancer at 26

    We never rev'ed the motor that high in the 2nd & 3rd gears (1st is only for stump pulling applications). High was engaged by the time you hit 25 or 30 mph. You have to take into consideration that speed is of no importance when driving these trucks. 45 mph is about tops, 50 mph MAYBE if you hit the freeway. I drive Model Ts and Fords of this vintage mainly because I've chosen since getting out of High School to be in no hurry and neither is anyone behind me better be (no one ever said "Slow Kills"). They can come around me when they have a chance if they are in a hurry.

    I've never heard a flathead run, this sounds very lovely, I want one...... I have only owned a 1969 F100 [10 years], [Australia]. I would love an American with very comfortable $$ to be able to build and ship an F truck for me, I have very low $, I badly suffer/live with depression and suicide thoughts, if only I could own and drive a Ford similar to this or a different old model, it would make me very happy and give me something to wake up to and start loving life. Sorry to pour this out here, but I am very serious and genuine with what I have just said. My name is Paul, [God Bless the best race in the world, the USA.].

      @kenanyfarm1577 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Paul, these trucks can be found as cheap as 800 bucks if you are willing to do a full restoration. Ps i don`t claim to know what it feels to be depressed, but remember whenever you get suicidal thoughts that your life is very precious, and as long as you are alive you can ovecome any obstacles and set new goals and live as happy as you wish to be, but if you are dead i don`t think you can say the same.

    Hi Karen! I have a F1 51 too, they are reallly great. I noticed you put wider tires and from what I saw the wheel was not heavy. Did you put a power steering? My F1 with thinner tires that yours is too bad to drive, too heavy. I do not know what to do because from what I saw it's hard to put a hydraulic steering an original F1, if not impossible. Could you help me with that? thank you very much! Cheers from Brazil!

    • @redtra236
      @redtra236 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Doesn't look like it has power steering to me. Manual steering is not that bad on pickups though I would just stick with it. When you put power steering on them it's often times hyper sensitive unless you replace everything. Also if the steering has some play in it power steering makes it way worse. I have a '66 F250 with manual steering and it's great except if you want to turn the wheel while stationary.

    • @oldmusher
      @oldmusher 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      An F1 (stock) weighs about 3300 pounds. So...about the weight of a 1980's "5.0" Mustang. Your steering is "heavy" because it is worn inside, as are the tie rod ends, kingpins, etc. You may have to research it...but a 1980's Toyota Pickup power steering unit is reasonably easily adapted. Hey, put in a 302 Ford V8...it is 80 pounds lighter than a flathead.

    • @redtra236
      @redtra236 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      F2 is a 3/4 ton F1 is a half ton. The main differences are 8 lug wheels, heavier frame, heavier suspension, sometimes larger steering wheel(Not sure if it is on the F2s but I believe it is larger on the F3s), and usually a longer wheel base but not always. Also the transmission may or may not be heavier and lower geared. The rear end also most likely will have a lower gearing.
