    I was involved in Systema early on. I saw the time where they decided to delve a volume of teaching certificates. I think the idea had controversy among the existing teachers, some were concerned it would hurt Systema by pumping out people who really didn't understand the system effectively. This occurred around the St. Catharines seminar in Canada. Up until that point I had been working with Vladimir Vasiliev, Sonny Puzikas, Martin Wheeler and finally Ryabko himself. The "magical" stuff, no contact concepts from Ryabko are about psychology. It's not new, even U.S. Armed forces and Intelligence agencies have dabbled in this stuff. The concept is fairly easy to understand. The scenario is usually about being confronted by multiple attackers, after dealing with one or two, the remaining having seen the others get dealt with are more sensitized to movement. I've never heard these ideas expressed in the sense of dealing with a single encounter because it likely wouldn't work. That's about as much as I can elaborate on. One thing I did notice the first time working with Ryabko is his arms are covered in scar tissue from hundreds of cuts, the result of working with live blades supposedly. It's a weird fighting system for sure, I think it gets a deal of negative attention from it's study of psychology in fighting. If you really want to find out what it's about, I always refer people to Vasiliev or Martin Wheeler who was my sponsor when they were doing that. I would say this regardless of Ryabko's passing, he truly was the nicest, most gentle soul I ever encountered in my forty some years of martial arts study. Very pleasant guy and extremely sneaky and cunning.

    One of my friends introduced me to systema, but not as a martial art or fighting style, but as a training regimen for body coordination. Although I felt like they were a bit more intermediate movements when compared to something like calisthenics or warmup drills in judo or jiu jitsu (front rolls, shrimping, animal walks, etc), and I feel like it might be useful for someone to get used to more beginner oriented movements first, like basic calisthenics and basic animal walks and find a few wrestling mats for learning rolls and all with less chance of injury.

    Kadochnikov Systema is engineering. Ryabko Systema is art. The dude was a colonel in the Spetsnaz. Ryabko was in charge of about 100 men whom regularly hunted and killed real life versions of john rambo. Thats not an exaggeration, the Spetsnaz are the Russian equivalent to the American SF Green Berets. Ryabko's no contact stuff is just 1 small aspect of everything else he teaches. You've never trained with him. You've not asked anyone thats trained with him. You are too close minded to understand or even see what he is doing in the videos that seem ridiculous. He's using basic human physiology, ever have some one try to ball tap you? Ever have someone try to poke you in the eyes? What does your body immediately do when someone tries to poke you in the eye? Your body immediately moves a very specific way, you will move your head and upper body backwards to avoid being poked in the eye. This puts you off-balance. He takes advantage of this off-balance. In the one clip he puts out his fist as if he was going to ball tap the guy, the guy's body reacts like every other man's body would which would be to push out the butt and lean forward to try to avoid the ball tap. He is taking advantage of the instinctual body movement that every normal person has because of fear. He's controlling their inertia because of his opponents fear. Every legendary ancient warrior thats existed eventually figured out that all that matters in fights to the death is inertial movement control and unpredictability, technique dont matter, strength dont matter, speed dont matter, all that matters is being able to maintain control of your inertia while also controlling your opponents, and the ability to improvise depending on situation aka unpredictability. Engineering is good for learning how to control inertia but its like paint by numbers, there is no unpredictability or creativeness to it.

    The reason why their schools eventualy turn into religieus sects is in my good guess because the real martial artists and practitioners of fighting sports left them once they had learned everything they needed to learn (in the beginning, when systema was still about good biomechanical old school stuff). The trainings were realy tough back then! After those people (including me) left, they needed a new public for their money machine and started all about health. Then the yoga type of people came along and with them the "mystic moves", sectarian people and those who are usualy found on fantasy fairs. These people have the serious need to believe in Jedi-people who can use "the force".
    I seriously believe that the fame and fortune got into their heads. They're gone way out of line with selling people this bullshit all arround the world. Once I was a systema practitioner and instructor as well but once they started with this crap I quitted with these guys right away.

    Having had the experience of working with people who have internal skill, the problem is you have to get out there on the mat and work with them to know if they have the goods or not. Internal art conditioning is not the same as Western style weight lifting muscle power. A person can have internal connection, be able to use their whole body fluidly, and not look the part of a traditional athlete. Absolutely motionless shoulders are important structurally in internal arts. Ryabko, check. And look at those forearms. That's a warning sign for some people.

    • @mikitadou
      @mikitadou  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You are absolutely right, the internal power comes from deep relaxation, not from muscle tension. There are many nuances, like the way of breathing, positioning, mental state, etc.
      Ryabko has the basics down no doubt, but he is definitely not the best Systema master out there, not even in the top 10. Yet I applaud his business skills, since he reacted quickly and made a good cash out of what he knew, before anybody else could mobilize to do the same in the 1990s.

      It is indeed real, as it was designed in the 1970s for the sake of the elite forces, but just as with everything Marketing touches, anything crumbles under dudes trying to make a quick buck. The exercises in Systema are slow, but only in the beginning stages, once you made your body soft, lost fear of being touched and punched, they practice in real-time speed. But I honestly can't see Ryabko going full speed without running out of gas in 10 seconds, that is why I disagree with his no-contact and slow-motion teaching method.

The breathing and mechanical techniques in Systema are very unique and indeed very effective, I would recommend them to anyone, not just martial arts enthusiasts. However I bet you that Machado would not recommend you the no touch techniques taught by Ryabko.
      Regarding the Martin Wheeler, he is a successful martial artist with a vast experience in many styles of martial arts, and he was taught by Vladimir Vasiliev, not Ryabko. Vasiliev's teaching are vastly different and more "hands on" than Ryabko's.

      @@mikitadou I feel like the focus on No Touch techniques with Ryabko is like defining BJJ by butt scooting and sitting down to fight. Ryabko has plenty of martial technique he talks about. So little of it is no touch it really seems like people just like to focus on that. That said... people believe in Jesus. Jesus who walked on water and all that. People believe in tons of science fi stuff around the world. It truly confuses me when we draw the line at no touch stuff. Particularly when these people have explained Systema is about exploring yourself and that everything being shown isn't to be used in a fight. I forget the guy, but one of the Gracies focuses a lot of breathing techniques. Relying on Ryabko's no touch methods in a fight would be as dumb as relying on breathing techniques. Everyone is clear these things impact training and the mind. They aren't punching kicking and movement.

    Sorry to say, but you don't have the slightest understanding of Systema. The whole foundation of Systema is that each individual develops his own Systema that fits his body and individuality. Hence, Ryabko's weight only means that he will do things fitting his body. He's got an amazing pedagogical talent, being able to teach people of totally different body complexion than his own. The emphasis on no contact is yours. In reality, no contact is only an extension of mechanics and can only be studied at an advanced level of mastery of pure mechanics. I think your choice of video fragments is misleading in this respect. As for being a religious sect, totally not true. Ryabko teaches people of any religion. He is also one of the most humble people you will meet (if you decide to meet him). He openly continues to learn and discuss despite his phenomenal level of mastery.

    Consider Putin and the post-USSR Russian Federation and the accompanying return to cultural prominence of the Russian Orthodox Church. Systema is actually a Soviet martial art. It’s like they didn’t want to embrace this and so tried to rebrand it as an "ancient Slavic martial art" that predates the USSR.
    You can see the same thing being done with the fighting style known as “52 Blocks”. This is a martial art that arose predominately among African Americans in the prison system, though you now see it being rebranded by some as an “ancient” African or Egyptian martial art. To me it’s unfortunate they simply didn’t take pride in the fact that Systema is Soviet.
    It’s like Ryabko began to believe his own marketing and, as he conditioned compliant students in how they are expected to respond to his movements, he also conditioned himself to believe in his no-contact abilities. It is the same with many “chi” or “ki” demonstrations. A stranger who walked in from the street would not respond to these movements in the same way, because they have not been "trained" in what they are supposed to do!
    Anyway, thank you for this video. It’s very good!

      yeah, its pure marketing gimmick. Systema Kadochnikova had nothing to do with religion at all, it was based on scientific studies of the human psyche, brain waves, breathing, even hypnosis. You are not talking about systema, but about your personal take about Ryabko. You just choose your images to support what you want to be the "truth". You finaly serve your own interest, but it is against systema.
    Ryabko is a master in his sense, whitch is no more the Kado one than the "no contact", whitch seems to amuse him a lot, and that you emphasise as his "only style", which is a lie. Are you a beginner ? I don't think, you more seem to have a precious chapel to defend against what you finaly depict as a strong concurrent ! There is only one way of thinking for those trapped in a one-sens ideology, it's trying to destroy the "ennemy" : that's what you try to do here with Ryabko, without honor. Ryabko plus Vasilief have created the world popularity of the systema in the late 1990, and it's most probably because of them that you know it. You should have more respect for those who does things, before talking trash like you do. Destroying is easy...
    Systema have/is no church, you know this, why pretend ? I never heard anybody, practitionner or instructor, talking like you suggest they do : stupids as they are to be following a fake master. You are insulting a lot of systema people in the world. You clearly nutrish bullshit that you pretend to fight against, really bad job. But why ?
    Are you a believer of the Scientist Church, and so being necessarily against all (other) religions (Kado IS "science") ? Are you jealous about the fact Ryabko loves black money and so can fatten up its own personnal Pope ? Do you really believe that a strong fighter cannot be overweighted ? Are you serious ?
    You present fakes arguments against Ryabko, nothing that could be interestigly discussed, worst you don't seem to remark some interesting commentaries that could awake something in you. In fact you just seem to have preconceptions about him, the problem being that they are out of the scope of the martial arts, of the systema you seem to be talking about. In fact, I only recognize one major interest (not my kind) in your posture : well known clicbait manners.

      You are right in a sense that I am not fond of Mr.Ryabko. I have my reasons, mostly because he monopolized the world of Systema without having right to do so, as the style that he teaches has only a slight relationship to the actual Systema. His martial art is different enough that it should go by a different name, but that would not be attractive now would it? So he created his own backstory about being taught "Systema" by Stalin's bodyguard? common...Even his "top-student" Vasliev has a Kadochnikov Systema background, and has started doing business with Ryabko only in the 1990s. If you take a closer look Vasiliev's Systema is very akin to Systema Kadochnikova, there is nothing Ryabko about it.
      Systema and its principles were developed with the support of USSR's science teams and Kadochnikov in the 1970s...but Ryabko claims that its an "ancient" Russian martial art? that has connections to Orthodox Church? Now that's some high level nonsense right there.
      Regarding the non-contact techniques, I try to keep my mind open, but the fact that he relies so heavily on them without any tax on his body is a clear example of the fakeness of that performance. Kadochnikov did talk briefly about the possibility of non-contact influence on the attacker, but he never showcased entire classrooms falling on their butts because he wills it.

    This is a video made by someone with very ignorant opinions about martial arts using clips taken out of context. I encourage anyone interested in learning any of the principles of breathing, relaxation, posture, movement to try systema for themselves.

    • @mikitadou
      @mikitadou  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Please do tell. I have tried Systema for around 6-8 and have been researching it since then. I am fascinated by this martial art and have never criticized it. All the things you said about breathing, relaxation, posture, and movement, as well as self-body awareness and an empty mind, are essential to Systema.
      I disagree with the teachings of several teachers, but that has nothing to do with Systema, bur rather politics.

      @@mikitadou I have never practiced under Micheal Ryabko, only Vladimir and some of the students he has trained. When watching the clips that you presented it was apparent that Micheal is aware of the system he is teaching and using that awareness to manipulate the senses and reactions of his partner. If you have trained in Systema you would be aware that these techniques would not be used outside of an educational context. In each he is presenting something highly specific which I can only hazard a guess at. To present these clips outside of their proper context is in my opinion dishonest.

      He definetly fabricated some parts of it for sure, like the thing that he says about learning Systema from Stalin's bodyguard, which is a complete BS. But mostly he is just cherry picking information and exaggerating facts. For example he says that he was participating in multiple wars, but he hides the fact that he was just a driver, he was just deploying fighters and then drove back to base. Not fighting, etc.

      Well its a sketchy topic, since Kadochnikov was the first to coin the Systema name, but Ryabko seems to be completely unrelated yet also claims to be the patriarch of his own Systema style, which he apparently learned form one of the Stalin's bodyguards. It does sound very suspect, but the man does have an army of fans backing him up after all.

    I did systema for a couple of months but found it to be a load of horsepiss really. First of all the teacher was telling us it was developed by Russian farmers to protect themselves but a lot of the stuff I saw reminded me of aikido or krav maga. It felt like they just took a bunch of exciting forms and threw then together in one big stew. In training we had to move in slow-motion which just made me laugh and everything seemed to be based on an attacker telegraphing their moves from a mile away. I doubt it would be of any use against someone with boxing or kickboxing skills. The only thing I learned was how to deal with a punch to the plexus, which sucks by the way, and how to breath differently. Guy would stand on my chest and stomach and I'd have to find other ways for my body to expand as I breathed in. It also seemed to attract a certain type of people. Overly aggressive type of alpha male. The instructor told me to attack him once when I questioned what you would use any of this for in a real fight so I grabbed him by the throat and he didn't seem to have an answer to that.
