@@sarahelroub1800 Frankly, I've never understood why Disney thinks romance is bad nowadays. During the Disney Renaissance, they planted seeds in the minds of youngsters healthy tips that would be useful once kids get older. Like how Beauty and the Beast taught girls to make boys earn their affection. Or when Aladdin taught boys that honesty is the best way to impress a girl. But now they seem to think that having a perfect career or a position of power is more important than companionship. Like in that new Peter Pan remake. They showed that Wendy will die childless and alone and framed it as a desirable fate because she had a successful career. And don't get me started on how Disney now thinks that being wisked away by a handsome man is degrading to women. Last time I checked, it was a common woman's fantasy.
This dialogue and their animated reactions to one another is so top-notch. Really how Disney films should do romance in my opinion; fun and a collateral of the plot instead of making it the focus.
5:30 I love how the blond haired baby is smiling at her brother getting the rattle and not her sister. She’s like, ‘That’ll teach you for being a bully!’ 😂
I have a feeling the sister and brother will have a very competitive sibling rivalry. My head canon is that the son will be a great captain/admiral like his mother, while the sister will be a very skilled military medic to follow her dad's footsteps
One of my favorite bits was the "did you actually aim for that?" But because as a kid I always thought he was bluffing when he said he did. After all he is goofy and comes off as clumsy and a screw up. As o got older I paid attention to the scene and he really does. You see him notice that they are being overwhelmed, look up and see the big thing and carefully aim, never taking his one eye off his target. And I love that she doesn't dismiss him afterwords, Amelia immediately trusts Delberts aim and tells him to shoot a thin cable that is holding the ling boat in place while she shoots the other. One of my all time fav couples
Exactly what I thought!! She believes him when he tells her he aimed for that and as proof of that he gives him an important task based on the assumption he can aim immediately afterwards!
Their energy was fantastic, disney is missing out on such an opportunity by not expanding on this universe. On another note, I can't believe I never picked up on her pointing out that the crew on her ship wasn't actually her own, it was one that he picked out, and that's why they were so mutinous. I wish kids were able to pick up on more of those details, or at least I was able to lol
I always noticed that...but freely admit that might be from watching Muppet's treasure island previously where it is made VERY clear the crew was a bunch of pirates hired by the financer NOT the captain
Absolutely, this universe has potential to be similarly expansive as Ratchet and Clank because it leans into the very same kind of Sci-Fi. You can do so much with this if they only wanted to. I still hope that someday someone at Disney will take up the old Treasure Planet 2 concepts and continue the series.
It's a good thing for those of us in the D&D/TTRPG circles that Spelljammer/Starfinder (and other space-based systems) exists, and that the newest iteration is coming around this year
You know, while I was watching this movie just now, I thought: “huh, this is giving me serious Felix and Calhoun vibes right now”. It could be that the Felix and Calhoun pairing was even inspired (consciously or not) by Amelia and Doppler in Treasure Planet.
What I love most about this couple is how they compliment each other without being total archetypes or caricatures Amelia has, at first glance, the tired old "badass action girl who can do anything a man can do, but better" vibe, yet her being authoritative and confident in her abilities works, as she's responsible for a whole ass ship. She wouldn't be in the position she's in unless she actually was a capable commander. Furthermore, she's not shown to be some flawless masterclass individual and actually takes advice from other competent characters in the movie without coming off as inept in the process. She's the lead in her own story, but she still needs support. It's very human Doppler can sometimes get played for the bumbling moron (and the movie does do this a tad too much, imo), but he's still a brilliant doctor who shows his worth throughout the movie many times in subtle ways. Even in those moments where he seems to fall backwards into success, it's not other characters like Amelia or Jim pointing out he had a moment of genius, he realizes and utilizes it himself. In any other movie, he would've been an idiot after he accidentally freed his bindings until another, smarter character figured it out for him and said something.. but no, he immediately recognized what he had done and took initiative. He surprises himself at what a great marksman he is as well. They work together because they're opposites who make up for each other's weaknesses. The confident strategist with a bullishness to her and the brilliant doctor who lacks confidence until dire circumstances show just what he's capable of. The different kinds of intellect they have and the different levels of confidence make them a great team that doesn't step on the toes of the other and yet they're BOTH still fantastic as individuals as well. Fantastic dynamic between two awesome characters who complement each other so well
I noticed that when Amelia is with Doppler she seems to let her hair down a lot. With everyone else, she is the stoic and commanding Captain but she goes softer when Doppler is involved. The warm smile is a good hint. Given how intelligent she is, I imagine to her it would have been very refreshing to have someone on a similar level to her. Mr Arrow is all well and good but he was still leagues beneath her. Also, the eyes she gives him when he says they aren't a couple, basically asking 'are you sure about that?' or something along those lines. I think the hug after they escape through the portal is the big payoff, all the stress and action finally over and they can actually appreciate each other and the bond they've forged.
I'm always kinda surprised there was never a spin-off series of this, a "Where are they now" and "What kind of adventures do they get up to" kind of series, but I can understand why they wouldn't have done so. Doing those spin-offs kind of kills everything that the movie or story was trying to make if it wasn't going to be a series.
Also spin offshore might kill the classic We all want the classic to live even tho it didn't get much attention at first but now it got all the eyes. I remember seeing this as a kid, I think the year it came out or sometime after. But man I love this movie

I really like how much 'show don't tell' there is in the animation ESPECIALLY with these two! It's never really 'pointed out' that her pupils dilate when she feels an intense emotion (joy pain anticipation etc.) But their personalities are also displayed in their expressions towards one another. Amelia is playful and well 'catty' in her behavior she always has a smirk or grin with her eyes almost always looking analytical or plotting and her expressions like her shape language and attitude are as sharp as her claws! Yet once she's hurt bad enough and settles down with Doc her expressions are the softest they've ever been. With Dubbler, you see him learn to be calmer as well going from excessive angry rambling to stuttering, to taking over the situation when she is unable to do so yet still maintaining both professionalism and kindness even being playful back with her slightly (for the most part before he freaks out again lol) And finally, the ending I LOVE the ending a small shipping part of me agrees with my boyfriend who was whispering "Kiss... KISS!" next to me when I showed him this but the reveal of them having kids together is just as wonderful in my eyes ESPECIALLY their faces. Dubbler is proud of himself and the wife he has and Amelia is soft and warm with boh her husband and children. As the two dance, their is the same level of playfulness and gentleness in both of their expressions. And to top it all off Morph is using the same BIG eyes he used when Silver told him "keep an eye on this pup" so one of the parents had to ask him to 'keep an eye" on their kids so they could share a dance. Ahhhh so much detail and they just keep piling no matter how many times I watch this masterpiece. (Sory for the paragraphs lol I just love this film so much)
I just realized she is constantly gathering data and applying it. When Doppler lands on his head when gravity is engaged, she learns she needs to look out for his physical safety. Next scene, “Brace yourself, Doctor.” Later when he aims for the upper thingy and shoots it, she learns he’s a crack shot, and immediately trusts him to shoot out the cable. This trust is rewarded, he’s a crack shot again.
Considering Disney almost had Doppler be the one giving birth, it gives a whole new layer to her plugging his suit in and the “I’ll do my own plugging thank you” line 💀
What do you mean DOPPLER was supposed to be the one pregnant?! The males of his race are the ones that gives birth???? I thought it would make sense for Ameila to be the one pregnant (Considering, females are built for it, even in animals and Doppler is supposed to be based off a dog) and they had four kids all a once, a litter. Cats, which is what Ameila is based off of, birth litters of around 4 or more. Or less. That's .. funny to think about, about Doppler being the original birth giver 🤣
Honestly, their romance is adorable. I like how they both go through their own character arcs as well through their budding relationship. Amelia learns to be a little more humble and Doppler learns to find his inner badass. Also Amelia's expressions are amazing to watch.
This two gave me the same energy as Kida and Milo, and Anastasia and Dimitri the nerdy bit incredibly brave guy with the baddass girl. Although Disney is trying to make this type of couple, they don't get the same feelings I wish there where a lot more of this dynamic
I love that this film explores a romance between two deuteragonists while the protagonist has his own different business to take care of. Their romance grows really subtly.
Very underrated couple! Just feels so natural and realistic of how their relationship evolved from being good friends to a happy couple without it feeling forced!
1:54 OK, I know this is about shipping which is fair, but can we just appreciate the little animation details? When she gets excited, her pupils dilate like a cat's would.
Well it's like they say like father like son, not just personality but also looks, I'm just saying because I'm nothing like my dad in terms of personality but I do look just like my dad, I'm just saying
Stereotypical Disney theme... all "children" in these movies are basically clone copies of their male and female parent counterparts. Gene sharing pretty much doesn't exist.
It’s how their species is built. Captain Amelia and Doppler are the same species but males are dog-like and females are cat-like, so they turned out as expected.
5:05 Of all years of being an upstanding, proficient, and honorable Captain while serving in the Military as well as sailing through the galaxy traversing numerous dangers without ever losing morale nor confidence with her abilities, it only took a clumsy intelligent scientist (Doppler) to leave her 😮 by actually snapping back at her somewhat hilariously although he wasn’t trained to commandeer a ship, he can maneuver it just fine and Amelia should at least trust him. The look on her face is a mixture of impressed that he actually stood up for himself against her then shocked since there hasn’t been anyone under her command not even Mr. Arrow that can’t follow her orders without fail nor would they dispute about it but that’s what makes Amelia and Doppler a perfect pair. Amelia is standoffish yet she’s kindhearted and prideful because she’s confident of her talents and skills while Doppler is smart and awkward though his quick decision-making and courage has proven him as a great tactician and genius that can help the crew evade potentially life-threatening circumstances. They just bring out the best of each other.
5:13 I honestly love that they didn't go the typical "blush" cliche after the hug (atleast Doc). They just looked at each other in such a way that it makes you feel really adult-y. Atleast to me it felt so mature. No silly "oh I'm blushing cuz we just hugged accidentally from our happiness of being alive". Straight to acknowledgement of their feelings and a "I guess we're doing this. And I'm glad we are"
David Hyde Pierce is one of those actors I always find myself channeling a bit when I've acted. A while back when I got to play Cogsworth in a local production of Beauty & the Beast I decided to base my performance on David, instead of imitating the movie version. It fit amazingly well, if I may say so.
I think part of why it works so well is that I can imagine Emma Thompson and David Hyde Pierce doing these same lines as a stage play and it still working beautifully.
There will always be this certain charm with 90s and early 2000 animated movies. I don’t know what it is, hell it could just be nostalgia, but I feel like there’s something more there, something that is missing in most of today’s animations.

This dialogue and their animated reactions to one another is so top-notch. Really how Disney films should do romance in my opinion; fun and a collateral of the plot instead of making it the focus.

5:30 I love how the blond haired baby is smiling at her brother getting the rattle and not her sister. She’s like, ‘That’ll teach you for being a bully!’ 😂
she will be the good sister
Omg the middle one being so confused like: “What in the middle child-“
I have a feeling the sister and brother will have a very competitive sibling rivalry. My head canon is that the son will be a great captain/admiral like his mother, while the sister will be a very skilled military medic to follow her dad's footsteps
Morph is sexist confirmed
I wonder if the red head was waiting for the blond to fall asleep to pick on their brother. Seemed like she was watching the blond prior.
“She’s lost her mind” will always be my favourite line.
All because she complimented him as apposed to her usual ribbing.
I love how her pupils dilate when she's excited at 1:54 - just like how real cats would react
That happens with any creature with dilating pupils, including humans.

The best part was that it was always his target. He just ducked for cover before taking the shot.
He was startled, but he managed to do something right for once, that's how I figured out I liked him
he was supposed to gain her respect but he won her hearth, all my respects
And he heart
I really love that she isn't a cold, boring emotional less type of character. She's so fun
Ojalá más personajes militares, sobretodo femeninos, fueran así en lugar del estereotipo del Sargento Hartman.
It's a good thing for those of us in the D&D/TTRPG circles that Spelljammer/Starfinder (and other space-based systems) exists, and that the newest iteration is coming around this year
I think Disney would ruin it, to be honest.
The animation on this movie is just so freaking beautiful.
Everyone is a furry for Captain Amelia.
u rite tho
yes-
No lie spoken.
😏
is it really furry if she’s an alien though ?
In an alternate world, I bet Amelia and Calhoun from Wreck-it-Ralph would be best friends.
I was just thinking about that!
Omg I couldn’t agree more. and I would love to see it🔥
You know, while I was watching this movie just now, I thought: “huh, this is giving me serious Felix and Calhoun vibes right now”. It could be that the Felix and Calhoun pairing was even inspired (consciously or not) by Amelia and Doppler in Treasure Planet.
Killer queen's with their male wives
She's too tough, I think I'd just dismiss her as a domineering arse who's entirely too tough with those she interacts with
What I love most about this couple is how they compliment each other without being total archetypes or caricatures
Amelia has, at first glance, the tired old "badass action girl who can do anything a man can do, but better" vibe, yet her being authoritative and confident in her abilities works, as she's responsible for a whole ass ship. She wouldn't be in the position she's in unless she actually was a capable commander. Furthermore, she's not shown to be some flawless masterclass individual and actually takes advice from other competent characters in the movie without coming off as inept in the process. She's the lead in her own story, but she still needs support. It's very human
Doppler can sometimes get played for the bumbling moron (and the movie does do this a tad too much, imo), but he's still a brilliant doctor who shows his worth throughout the movie many times in subtle ways.
Fantastic dynamic between two awesome characters who complement each other so well
When I was a kid, I somehow didn’t notice the romance until I was much older.
kids just spawned lol
@@bropil7545 To be fair, in most animated movies they usually do XD
We need more characters like captain Amelia
“I KNOW I KNOW! WILL YOU JUST LET ME DRIVE?!” That’s the most married couple line
Yep, my parents did that all the time when I was a kid. I was like 9 so I'd just be chilling in the back seat with my DS😂
I just love that, the moment when she complements him while in pain, he immediately says that she's lost her mind🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
People always talk about Lola Bunny as "the awakening" but forget the triple threat of Furry, Mommy Dommy, and *Bri'ish*

Also spin offshore might kill the classic

"Doctor... you have... wonderful eyes..."
*"SHE'S LOST HER MIND!!!"*
Favorite scene of the two of them 😂😂😂😂
I really like how much 'show don't tell' there is in the animation ESPECIALLY with these two!
With Dubbler, you see him learn to be calmer as well going from excessive angry rambling to stuttering, to taking over the situation when she is unable to do so yet still maintaining both professionalism and kindness even being playful back with her slightly (for the most part before he freaks out again lol)
And finally, the ending I LOVE the ending a small shipping part of me agrees with my boyfriend who was whispering "Kiss...
Next scene, “Brace yourself, Doctor.”
Later when he aims for the upper thingy and shoots it, she learns he’s a crack shot, and immediately trusts him to shoot out the cable. This trust is rewarded, he’s a crack shot again.
Considering Disney almost had Doppler be the one giving birth, it gives a whole new layer to her plugging his suit in and the “I’ll do my own plugging thank you” line 💀
wait… What?!
O.o
Certified b r u h moment
What do you mean DOPPLER was supposed to be the one pregnant?! The males of his race are the ones that gives birth???? I thought it would make sense for Ameila to be the one pregnant (Considering, females are built for it, even in animals and Doppler is supposed to be based off a dog) and they had four kids all a once, a litter. Cats, which is what Ameila is based off of, birth litters of around 4 or more. Or less. That's .. funny to think about, about Doppler being the original birth giver 🤣
@@cindypicadomolina7814 maybe it's like seahorses?
Man, didn't know disney was into mpreg but okay
Honestly, their romance is adorable. I like how they both go through their own character arcs as well through their budding relationship. Amelia learns to be a little more humble and Doppler learns to find his inner badass.
Also Amelia's expressions are amazing to watch.
"...but I won't bore you with my scars."
Captain Amelia, I'm ready to hear your whole story.😍
Both characters are so developed that them being together works so well. Gotta love it.
This two gave me the same energy as Kida and Milo, and Anastasia and Dimitri the nerdy bit incredibly brave guy with the baddass girl.
Although Disney is trying to make this type of couple, they don't get the same feelings
I wish there where a lot more of this dynamic
I think Flynn Rider and Esmeralda in Entangled makes a good one too.
I think them being adults with established careers helps instead of being teens or early twenties
You mean rapunzel right? Esmeralda is from the hunchback of notre dame
Dmitri wasn't nerdy. And Anastasia wasn't badass until the climax. Up until then she was a chill smart-mouth.
You can see it when she meets Doppler.
A well written and drawn character.
This ship was shipped on a ship.❤️❤️❤️
AND IT SAILED 😂
It's so cute that the 1 son they have in that litter looks like their dad.
Cats and dogs living together, mass hysteria!
1:08 She was so right about the crew.
That moment when you give it a rewatch and you find out Captain Amelia is voiced by Emma Thompson.
No wonder she radiates pure sass!
The perfect couple. Together they are more than the sum of their parts.
I think part of why it works so well is that I can imagine Emma Thompson and David Hyde Pierce doing these same lines as a stage play and it still working beautifully.
