Interestingly enough she shouldn't because of how nice is she. Medusa stare turned people to stone because of how terrifying and bloodthirsty she looked.
In myth, Medusa was the normal sister of the other two Gorgons (Euryale and Stheno). It is almost always said that she was a Priestess of Athena (goddess of wisdom, just war and virginity) who believed herself to be much more beautiful than Aphrodite (or just Aphrodite was envious), so Poseidon was sent (or tempted or as revenge for his resentment towards Athena for not being worshiped in the city of Athens) to abuse Medusa. For having desecrated the temple of chastity, Athena transformed Medusa into one equal to the other Gorgons. It is said that he hid in Hyperborea (perhaps the territories of the Germanic peoples) and that the Demigod Perseus cut off his head to save Princess Andromeda from Cetus (a sea monster that gave rise to the term "Cetaseus" and who was the MOTHER of the Gorgons). Because of what Poseidon had done, Medusa was pregnant, and Perseus brought about her birth. From the blood of Medusa two entities emerged: Pegasus, the Winged Horse (because Poseidon was a God of this animal and in fact had another son with Demeter who was a Horse) and Chrysaor, who was the most confusing. His name meant "golden sword" and many said that he was a giant with such a weapon or simply someone rich and/or powerful. The myth of Medusa does not go much further. They only say about her that she died, giving life to her children and "helping" Perseus with her head that she still served as her. I actually read an alternate universe fanfic on a website where, in a world where the whole timestream largely changed due to Jim Henson gaining a seat on the Disney Board in 1979, instead of Hercules, the Greek myth movie they made was Medusa, featuring the Gorgon (ironically voiced by Susan Egan) who is actually quite sweet like this one, working with a blind Perseus (Christian Slater) in order to find a spring that could cure her and along the way, falling in love with each other.
i never understand why giving her sunglasses was the better option than just turning her into human so she loses the ability to turn people into stone, sure it was an offer from Hades so it's probably a plot but why didn't the others think of the same thing
even hades couldnt make her FULLY human only for a short time. in mythology it was a curse from athena herself what turned medusa into a gorgon so i think its too powerfull.
@@xDasMottex Hades only made her human temporarily cause he wanted her gaze to kill people at night. Athena quite honestly wouldnt hold a candle to the children of Kronos.
The lesson to be learned that Aphrodite was trying to teach was that love shouldn't be based on just what you see but actually liking the person as yourself and for who they are--like Medusa said, by disguising herself she was living a lie.
Well, a more chipper and less cynical version. Honestly, it’s amazing how she able to maintain a positive attitude in spite of this, though the angst is still understandable.
Man, Medusa was done so damn dirty man. I hate how they gave her so much character and than just threw her out. I luv'd the relationship she had wit Hercules and his friends. Very cool that they actually showed her as a poor girl trying to live her life, instead of usual mid-tier monster to slay in the middle of the season/movie/book. Medusa was cursed depending on the version for being forced upon, or just being saduced by Poseidon, she didn't deserve all the harsh depictions of her
I hated how they ended this episode. Aphrodite was trying to teach her that a true friend will love her regardless of what she looks like and I'm like "Lady! The Woman kills everything that looks at her. You could have just given her human eyes and taught the same lesson"
I wished my favourites past Disney animated Series like The Gummie Bears, Darkwing Duck, Wuzzles, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Hercules, House of Mouse, Dave the Barbarian, Kim Possible and American Dragon Jake Long are finally released onto a complete Blu- Ray (the entire episodes) at last just like they did for Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers.
I wished they actually made good shows like them again than the crap they currently make but I guess that’s to much to ask of current day Disney they have lost all creativity and make almost nothing new just remake after remake
James Woods himself did say he loved playing as Hades so much, if Disney ever decided to do anything related to Hercules, he would wanna recast his role as Hades. He would even do it for free. Besides, can nobody play Hades better than James Woods
I'm actually kind of with Hades on this one. I mean, I'm with Aphrodite too, but I think Medusa is more concerned with heing murdered than she is not making any friends because of her appearance. And, well, Perseus was alive sometime before Hecules, and they are half-brothers and this cartoon hasn't lended much accuracy to it's audiance... But my point stands, Medusa was born to die tragically because the gods willed it so.
Pretty much all the other cartoons at the time were portraying Medusa as a one-dimensional villain of the week. Seeing this approach on the character is surprisingly refreshing, even today.
I am so overjoyed to see this. Thank you for making this. I was very sad about what happened to Medusa. its not fair she was considered as a monster. She is an innocent girl who went through a lot in her story and every ending the so called hero end up killing her. I hated to see her die. Athena and Aphrodite talking on Mt.Olympus:
Aphrodite: ... yeah, I helped this sweet, young girl become human to fall in love with Hera and Zeus' son, Hercules.
Athena: Wait a minute. Who did you turn back to human?
Aphrodite: Medusa.

To be fair, she was a victim
@@kingjonstarkgeryan8573 Athena's curse was really her expression of being an insecure beeyotch, not unlike most of the pantheon.

Greek Medusa was born a Gorgon.
@@MegaKnight2012 thanks for the insight! 😁
Ironically medusa was voiced by Jennifer love Hewitt who played Madeline in the hunchback of Notre dame 2 so it looks like Madeline can truly emphasize with Quasimodo for being treated like a monster and being insecure about outward appearances.
Wait, there is a Hunchback of Notre Dame 2?
@@kinggidorah6910 yes it was a directed to dvd sequel that people didn't like compared to the original but the creators made the movie because they felt bad Quasimodo didn't get the girl so they gave him a love interest Madeline
@@tamyasaunders7689 interesting, big fan of the movie, yet only now i find out there is a sequel. Thx
Disney should bring this character around more often.
Yeah. With a lot of tweaking by their activists.
0:13 Well that was probably one of the cleanest death in disney history
“Oh Herc, a relationship is built on compromises.” -Icarus
Fun fact: in mythology Heracles is a direct descendent of Perseus who was responsible for killing Medusa.
Also the Pegasus was born from the neck of Medusa’s severed body.
So Zeus was his daddy and his great grandfather too….
Why the Greek mythology is always messed up?!
@@aidanfraga3987it is isn’t it.
Athena was born from Zeus’s skull & “Sweet Alabama” exists in Greek Myth.
@@potsdam28 Perseus wasn't related to Zeus at all. That's just something they did in the movie

3:54 😂 So where ya’ gonna take her?
Priorities!
Medusa was awesome!
She should have been in more episodes, not just a one-shot character.
Could you imagine the unstoppable force of a baby they would create?!?!?
So we’re summon their new kid in FGO?
Yeah, but the child will always be cursed tho. That's the problem with a power one can't control.
Hades would be given hell 💀
@@damotoneko1500 just look at Pasiphäe and her son the Minotauros
@@damotoneko1500 not really, you see Medusa is not a random monster, she and Hercules are in reality second cousins, Gaia ( The mother Earth) is Medusa's grandmother and she is also Hercules's grand grandmother. Medusa is not really cursed she was born like that, and is more like a random manifestation of her divine lineage, the baby will be very OP but the form of the power will be random, also since Medusa's sisters ( Euryale and Stheno) are 100% impossible to kill, is possible for the baby to get that power too, becoming some super strong and immortal person
This just popped up on my feed. Thank you for the wonderful 5:16 minutes of the day 😊
This was cute to watch
One of my favorite episodes! Hercules and Medusa were adorable together ♥
Rider and Berserker having good chemistry together?
Now that is something. 😄

The obvious answer is that her Gorgon form is cuter
It was a be yourself lesson. She’s not human she’s a gorgon.
even hades couldnt make her FULLY human only for a short time. in mythology it was a curse from athena herself what turned medusa into a gorgon so i think its too powerfull.
I love Icarus 🤣 "THE GORGON!? So where you takin her?"
"She had a winning personality."
He's not wrong.

His delivery of “so where y’gonna take her” just elevates an already great joke.
I really liked this version of Medusa☺️
What's the matter mr. Stone, people taking you for *granite*?
And we just appreciate how much Medusa sir looks like Meg in her human form😂
Well, a more chipper and less cynical version. Honestly, it’s amazing how she able to maintain a positive attitude in spite of this, though the angst is still understandable.
I like this version of her! I’d really like to see more interpretations of Medusa like her! A nice one who is troubled by her curse
It's one of the reasons why she's so "popular" as a subject of tattoos. Lots of SA victims can relate.
Voyage of the Unicorn (2001) shows her with the same personality
Man, Medusa was done so damn dirty man. I hate how they gave her so much character and than just threw her out. I luv'd the relationship she had wit Hercules and his friends. I luv'd her character arc and lesson she taught. All this and we never see her ever again in any other future episodes
Man, that sucked
indeed.
She could have been around for a few more episodes maybe still come back as friendly exes.
"What!? The Gorgon?! ...So where you gonna take her?"
I love Icarus.
I don’t know how this got in my feed but I would totally be on board with a film based on this concept
Medusa > Meg
There I said it
What's wrong with Meg?
@@user-ManofStyle1 Nothing, I just find Medusa's personality to be more likeable to me.
@@user-ManofStyle1Medusa is tons more likeable than Meg. Also her background as gorgon/human is far more interesting.
@@MaraGomez-ve4pq I guess, but Meg sold her soul to Hades to save her boyfriend and then he dumped her foir other chick, so Meg became jaded and cynica and the movie shows that she's a good person after all when she sacrificed herself to save Hercules, Meg is actually a complex and interesting as well.
@@grimdarkAngel It's odd that nowadays people have started to dislike characters who aren't completely likeable at the start, like, Meg had a character growth and by the end she not that different from Medusa, I would argue that Meg is deeper character with her realizing error of her ways and sacrificing herself to save Hercules.
Madusa wasnt actually a monster she was just more beautiful than the god who cursed her and she lost her mind over time :(
please specify the source of the myth
yes and no.
The greek version has Medusa as a monster ( not really, she was a "Phorcetes", thre creatures called monster in greek mythology are most her nephews and nieces) she was Zeus's cousin (yep go check the family tree).
way way way later during the roman empire, Roman Mythology come with a new version of the myth that make her a cursed human
@@rafaelsantos-nl9jd That was also not a proper mythological text but more of a fable written by Ovid IIRC. A guy with an anti-authorotarian streak. So he wanted to make authorities (i.e. the gods) look bad.
In the greek myth Medusa also has two immortal sisters and she is the only mortal gorgon IIRC
That was only in one myth. In the original myth she was born that way.
Wow, Hades was actually being supportive to Herc and Medusa at the end. He's right that was nice.
Medusa is the first Love Interest of Hercules before Meg. Didn't see this one coming
i love her voice omg
Man I miss these old disney cartoons based off the movies. They were just lighthearted and fun to watch. No overly big preachy messages, just good ole fun.
Loved this show as a kid! The buzz light year spin off was great too!
Between the anime videos recommended to me from you _and_ seeing a short comp of an obscure show from my childhood, I gotta crown you a king of taste. I knew subbing to you was a smart move~!
You're welcome)
They way this short arc in the episode was more compelling than Meg and Herc in the movie
0:35 Not gonna lie that joke made me chuckle a little bit
Yeah, I like a nice corny pun, but funny joke
This isn’t the only voice Jennifer Love Hewitt voiced. She was also the voice of Madeline from The Hunchback of Notre Dame 2. I know it wasn’t a box office hit but I thought it was good given how Quis. got a girlfriend at the end~
I like her sense of humor. I think it’s important to have one when you’re cursed like she is.

@@ShadowWolfRisingand reptilian too, since Medusa is a gorgon.

Icarus's reaction is underrated
wow really heartwarming characters! this is what we looking for from Disney!
Bro I remember the golden era of Disney channel, this show, emperors new school, lilo and stitch Pokémon style adventures in Hawaii.
Perfect
Very cool that they actually showed her as a poor girl trying to live her life, instead of usual mid-tier monster to slay in the middle of the season/movie/book. Medusa was cursed depending on the version for being forced upon, or just being saduced by Poseidon, she didn't deserve all the harsh depictions of her
I hated how they ended this episode. Aphrodite was trying to teach her that a true friend will love her regardless of what she looks like and I'm like "Lady! The Woman kills everything that looks at her. You could have just given her human eyes and taught the same lesson"
With the glasses she can interact with people AND still have a means to defend herself.
Bro Medusa's voice actor is soo good
This and Aladdin might be the most underrated cartoons ever
Omg the heart glasses are everythinggg🥺 this show is so cute
1:43 hey, he's trying to be a good wingman...
I thought of that BEFORE I remembered who he was
I wished my favourites past Disney animated Series like The Gummie Bears, Darkwing Duck, Wuzzles, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Hercules, House of Mouse, Dave the Barbarian, Kim Possible and American Dragon Jake Long are finally released onto a complete Blu- Ray (the entire episodes) at last just like they did for Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers.
I wished they actually made good shows like them again than the crap they currently make but I guess that’s to much to ask of current day Disney they have lost all creativity and make almost nothing new just remake after remake
Cool how they got James woods to voice hades in the series as well.
God bless everyone.
James Woods himself did say he loved playing as Hades so much, if Disney ever decided to do anything related to Hercules, he would wanna recast his role as Hades. He would even do it for free. Besides, can nobody play Hades better than James Woods
@@jaywilliams1908 Agreed, no one else could pull him off like that.

God i loved this show growing up this was such a cute walk down memory lane
Yo, Icarus a real one. We all need a friend like that. 👏
I loved the Disney Hercules movie and show. It was a refreshing change from the Greek mythology that I enjoyed as a kid.
But my point stands, Medusa was born to die tragically because the gods willed it so.
yeap, and this animation also made the mistake of not mentioning that Medusa can only turn men into stone, she couldn't stone women!
@@alex1851really? Huh. I was always under the impression that anything that looked at a gorgon was petrified.
Medusa is a tsundere
Don't know the VA for Medusa here but her line-reading is damn near perfect. Great timing
That’s Jennifer Love Hewitt.
Pretty much all the other cartoons at the time were portraying Medusa as a one-dimensional villain of the week. Seeing this approach on the character is surprisingly refreshing, even today.
this is a gem in animation thank you >-
