I really wanted to find some good tutorial to show me one cycle of work process and what Affinity Publisher can do. And, your video really did that for me! I keep watching several times to master what you're teaching. No distraction without excessive video editing. Lots of tips. Gentle voice and easy to understand English(it really matters for non-English speaker like me). Thanks and cheers from a new fan from Korea!👍
Phenomenal. A masterclass. I was completely new to Affinity products this morning. Creating my own content in Publisher this afternoon after watching this. Many thanks.
I really enjoyed this beginner course, especially as a newbie to the Affinity suite of programs. It would be great if you could include content for the other apps as well (Designer & Photo). I know a lot of hard work goes into making these videos, so I just wanted to say I really appreciate the time & effort you put in here in making this available to end-users. Thank you! 🙌
This is more than some basic stuff about Publisher. It really helps out to setup some basic document. The example used here looks awesome. Thanks for sharing this great information.
I like this video. He is very patient and very detail. He's voice is sooo calming too. He must put a lot of effort in this video. I learnt a lot and I hope I can see him soon in the future videos!
This was great. You think the way I do. I always need an orientation to the tools and interface before we get into the actual demo project. I get so frustrated with tutors who don't explain a tool, its purpose or its location in a menu or panel until they're actually using it. This tutorial helped me map what I know and am familiar with from using other page layout and word processing apps over the years onto Affinity. It was long, but I'll watch it again before I watch most of the others I've saved.
Thank you so much for your thoughtful feedback! We’re really glad the tutorial resonated with you and that our approach to explaining the tools and interface was helpful. It’s great to hear that it helped you map your existing knowledge onto Affinity Publisher. We completely understand the importance of knowing the tools before diving into a project, and we’re thrilled that this tutorial provided that for you. Thanks for taking the time to watch, and we appreciate your dedication in watching it again! Hope it continues to be useful, cheers!
Thank you so much for this tutorial! When I first opened up Publisher I felt overwhelmed but now I'm feeling confident I can get started in making some documents. Really effective, it feels like I took a class in it!
this was incredibly helpful, thank you so much!! i really appreciate being able to see how an entire project gets handled from beginning to end, and thank you for including so many helpful workflow tips and key shortcuts! i'm feeling very excited to start playing with publisher now.
Hi, thanks for a great tutorial. I am new to Affinity and will be publishing a book, so even though I lack some things like adding a book cover, this tutorial has provided me with a great fundamental understanding of how the program works. I will definitely go back and re-watch some parts as I start working with the book.
Thank you very much for the great patience and explanation of the very basics. Like everyone said, your calmed voice really helped as well as the small tips. Looking forward to apply these and more learnings on my personal projects. Cheers all the way from Mexico
Thanks! We've definitely got the Affinity ecosystem in mind. One nice thing in publisher is that it includes Affinity Designer 2 as a persona, right within the Publisher interface. I touch on that a little bit in this course!
Hi! That’s awesome to hear! 🎉 It’s great that you followed along and gained a solid understanding of the software. Keep practicing, and you’ll keep getting better and better. Cheers!
Hello! Thanks for your feedback on the tutorial! When creating a trifold or Z-fold in Affinity Publisher, the difference between pages facing or not facing is mostly about workflow preference: Pages Facing: This view mimics a physical booklet or brochure, making it easier to visualize how the pages will look when folded. It’s useful if you want to see the layout as a continuous spread. Pages Not Facing: This shows each page individually. It can simplify the design process if you prefer to work on each panel separately without the distraction of the adjacent pages. Ultimately, it’s about what helps you design more efficiently. The end result will be the same once the brochure is printed and folded. Hope this helps!
Thank's for the suggestion! Publisher on the ipad has been really handy. Fortunately the interface is pretty similar, aside from exporting and managing assets.
Great tutorial >>> Great forward thinking in considering and understanding that the majority of viewers are here doing so BECAUSE THEY DON'T ALREADY KNOW THE MATERIAL! (Nothing more arrogant than a presentor making assumptions that their viewers already know various parts or have some levels of prior knowledge.) Well done - BRILLIANT! This part may be off-topic, but looking for some insight, so I tend to pick everyone's intellect. I'm writing a series of articles (chapters) on a topic that will be used in total as a 'course of instruction'. I intend to publish initially as digital, to be sold online, chapter-by-chapter. Obviously, each article will need to be viewable on the most popular devices (desktop, tablet, smartphone, et al). I would like to use Affinity Publisher to compose each and publish. I would also like to have it so that the reader may see two pages at a time and be able to turn pages in a maner similar to what Kindle currently offers for single-page viewing. My question for you: Is there a preferable file format that would work best; and, can Publisher save the document in said format? Thanks in advance.
This is a great tutorial and I learned a lot! The only downside is I cannot find where the collection for the assets mentioned in the video is meant to be. Clicking on the link takes me to the landing page telling me to buy a subscription. Maybe I'm looking in the incorrect spot, but trying to follow along without being able to pick and pull out the images and fonts in the same way made it feel like the tutor was moving way too quickly. In the end, this is only minor and I still feel I learned a lot all the same!
I'm new to this program and I have a question. My question is does the same thing apply if you want to create a book? if so what is the best course of action to use.
Question: When you finished creating the wire frame, is there a way to save that wire frame "as a wire frame" for potentially future use? Is there any value in doing so??
Whether it was a bug or just the way the software was written at that time, the newest versions have corrected that issue. If you do what he did, it now shows the borders, rulers, guides, etc
20 minutes in and can see the similarities to Indesign in certain ways, but also has a similar look and feel to Quark express… looking forward to getting rid of relying on Adobe altogether!!
Hi! It’s great that you’re seeing those similarities! Affinity Publisher really offers a lot of flexibility, and ditching Adobe can feel like a breath of fresh air. Enjoy exploring it! Cheers!
Hi! You can align the title by selecting the entire text frame, then adjusting the alignment settings to center the text across the columns. However, if you need precise control, using a separate text frame might make things easier. Both methods can work depending on what you’re aiming for! Cheers!
@@envatotuts Incredible that something so simple, that InDesign does with one click is so hard to do in Publisher! Still have my fingers crossed that Publisher will include Span/Split columns in the next release. I strongly encourage Affinity to consider adding this feature to the next release so that Pubisher can become a viable alternative to InDesign as a platform for publication production. Until then, sadly, I just can't take Publisher seriously.
Hi! It might be that the option to detach panels like the Text Styles tab isn’t available in your version of Affinity Publisher. Make sure your software is updated to the latest version. Sometimes, panel docking options can also be controlled through preferences or workspace settings. If you're still having trouble, checking the Affinity Publisher forums or help documentation might provide more specific guidance for your version. Hope this helps, cheers!
Hi, I have a subscription to Envato Elements but there was no link given or information of how to find the collections that was put together so we can follow along. It was mentioned in the video but I am unable to find anything. Can anyone point me in the right direction ?

10 minutes into the video and while this may be a great introduction to Affinity Publisher, it's clearly not for someone new to desktop publishing in general. Probably should have made that clear in the intro. Also, the persona icons change depending on whether you have the Designer and Photo apps installed or not. And finally, as other have mentioned, you said you set up a package of files to use in following along, but there's no link to that package.

I’m thinking of getting into graphic design without any experience as this is a great tutorial on Affinity. Really detailed and clear.
im waiting for this video too!

Excellent tutorial. Totally agree with the below (positive) feedback below. Thanks a lot!
I absolutely loved this tutorial and I followed along every single step and that gave me a good understanding of the software and the workflow!

@envatotuts would love to see more tutorials & quick tips & tricks videos for Affinity Suite!
Thanks … A very helpful tutorial … I’ll be trying this out on my iPad.
This is a great one! Easy to follow steps and briefly understandable concepts for beginners both to Affinity suite and Publishing. :)
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great tutorial, making the switch from adobe. This was perfect to get me started!
Hello Envato, Nice tutorial. Is there any differences in doing the trifold or Z fold with pages facing or not facing? Is it just preference?

So, where do I find these source files you've assembled? There's no link provided, and my searches around the web site have yielded nothing.

So good, thank you!

Why are the colors very muted when I print the brochure? I have it on cymk when setting up the document and followed all of the instructions for preflight and exporting the document.
cmyk is for professional printers, home printers use rgb thats why
@@Nemiril That is not correct. Most home printers still have cyan, magenta, yellow, and black (or CMYK) ink cartridges.
@@Covarr Correct, but they still print in rgb. The cmyk option for a home printer will be grayed out... it may show up if printing in postscript but not sure about that.
How can I get the affinity software?
From their website: affinity.serif.com/en-us/affinity-pricing/
BOO-lee-en, not boo-LEEN. Still, loving the video.
can this program open exiting InDesign files?
Yes, there are videos on that, but inside of InD you export your file as an IDML and then open that in AfPub and save it as an AfPub file. Sometimes you will need to make small tweaks to the Imported IDML file once inside of AfPub, but overall, it works quite well! Hope that is helpful.
Why do I always never get what is being demonstrated I have tried to find the window icon as in the video but it does not exist?
Mine is in an odd spot. I am using a laptop. The window heading is to the right of my camera, not on the left where almost everything else is.
I looked all over the website and didn’t find this template.
Not support RTL..
