I've been using Affinity Photo / Design for YEARS and have always struggled to find a solid channel for tutorials. You earned a new sub with this. Solid information, a lot I already knew - some things I learned for the first time. And you did it with some humor. All around - solid content. Looking forward to more Affinity stuff from you!
I have only just found you, and I am truly impressed, it's not often that you get someone teaching with a sense of humour as well ( I taught systems for over 30 years (I'm 72 now and still learning!!) and it was not always appreciated when I joked about a bit, like putting my boss in a sports car and zooming through five or six Powerpoint slides). Carry on making me laugh or smile and I'll watch all of your videos. I was a Photoshop teacher for many years so I thought this would be hard to crack but you explain it all so well, I'm sure I'll pick it up quickly. Well done
Wow! Thank you so much. Coming from someone with such experience I truly appreciate that. I try my best and I'm never sure if it's coming across properly while explaining something - this makes me happy!
This is FANTASTIC. One of the best tutorials I have ever seen. No fluff, no screwing around - you get right to the point. I learned so much in so short a time.
Thank you so much for watching! I apologize for my coughing, it was meant to be edited out.. but I was in a bit of a state at the time. Appreciate the wonderful comment, thank you for taking a moment to let me know. Truly appreciated.
I’ve never actually left a comment on a TH-cam video before, but for this tutorial, I had to make an exception. As a complete beginner to photo editing, I really appreciated how clear and approachable you made everything. Your explanations made each step easy to follow, and I felt more confident with each part of the process. It’s only natural that you’ve gained a new subscriber. Thank you so much for taking the time to make such a thorough, beginner-friendly guide!
First off - thank you so much for those very, very kind words! Please know I truly appreciate you taking the time to leave a comment. It really does mean a lot to me. I'm glad you found it helpful, I'm always trying my best to teach in a way that is simple but effective. I'm learning as I go. I appreciate you and welcome!!!

I just bought Affinity Photo from the black Friday sale and I'm so glad I came across this. This is probably the most in depth beginner tutorial for Affinity, and was hecka easy to follow along
Amazing how many people have left Adobe and moved over to Affinity products. I used Adobe for many years even back in the days of PageMaker and early Photoshop and had to find a less costly and more practical solution for my purposes. Affinity has filled the void perfectly with only a slight learning curve. Thanks for the great video.
Just what I came to say. Many of us have either already left Adobe or at Photoshop or are considering doing so. Videos like this are about to get a lot of views.
Excellent instruction technique. Photo manipulation is a new hobby for me and I've been using AF for about 2 weeks. Your "executive summary" course and teaching style have shown me many things that I will be doing much better from now on.
Thanks so much Steve, I'm so glad you found it helpful. You're gonna have a lot of fun with photo manipulation and creating your own graphics. Truly appreciate the kind words.

I used to use Affinity Photo v1 years ago, but was never great at it. Took a few years off from photography and just downloaded 2.0. Man, was I lost! I looked at 3 or 4 tutorials before this one, and quit all of them, some after less than a minute, until I found yours. Very impressive video! I learned something I was trying to figure out in the first 5 minutes (I screwed up the pallets on the right and didn’t know how to restore them). I’ve saved this to my iPad to refer back to often. Very well done. Now I’m off to see what other great stuff you offer 😉

Best solution to the cold, is honey and lemon, spoon the mixture straight to the back of your throat. You may not like the taste, but its effective. And a lot of WARM, not hot, water. But drink the water on its own
Your tutorials are so great and clear. Now that many people are switching from PS to Affinity I hope your channel grows and becomes the number one Affinity TH-cam channel. THANK YOU ❤
Thanks so much for this beginner's inclusive tutorial. It made a lot of concepts that have found challenging seem more understandable. I'm sure I will be referring back as I continue to learn.
This is by far the best introduction instruction for Affinity Photo. You are an excellent instructor. Great explanations, examples and pacing. Thank you!
@ 45:14 I just got done with another Affinity guide that was an hour long that didn't cover this problem. I was trying to figure it out for about 2 hours now LMAO. For this you've earned my sub. Going to watch your other guides since I bought the affinity suite a couple of months ago.
I'm coming from years of photoshop and I recently started using Affinity in the iPad so I'm in that weird spot where I know a bunch of editing stuff but in a new environment. I gotta say that your video lessons are legit amazing-you're like that cool teacher in school cause you explain and teach everything in a really fun and engaging way, like even if I already know half of the stuff you're explaning I still find myself wanting to listen in anyway cause the video is edited really well and you're just generally really cool and fun about it hahaha Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience!
I am half way through this video and am amazed at how much you have already covered. I am planning on switching to Affinity completely after the 6 month trial (which is very generous of them to begin with). I was a PS6 casual user for years, but had to update my computer and PS is no longer supported. I had read about Affinity being the "it" program to switch to after using PS. Your tutorial here has really taken the edge off my nervousness of switching to Affinity. Thank you so much for the video. I have subscribed.
Wow, thank you so much for that wonderful comment! I do apologize for my coughing... I *thought* I had edited it out (hence the claps to remind myself LOL) I truly appreciate you watching and subscribing! Affinity is super powerful and I think you'll love it!
I've just moved away from Photoshop and bought Affinity photo 2. At the price it's going for now it's a bargain. I'm done with Adobes greed. I have been looking for a good video to explain this software and this is by for the best I've came across. Many thanks for doing it. So easy to follow.
1- drink warm water with a small piece of ginger, 2- your tutorial is excellent, especially because after 20 years of PS I am moving to Affinity...bro this sooooooooooo simple. 5 stars
Thank you! Oddly enough I'm sick again so I'll take your advice! I'm glad you found it helpful and thank you so much for watching and taking a moment to leave a comment. Truly appreciate it!
Thank you for the positive heads up. I am also converting. We are farmers and hang with the goats and horses. The kiddos do not get the flu, if you get my "paste". We also swear by ginger, cinnamon, turmeric, and the core to the pineapple.

Please consider selling this and your other tutorials as (paid for) downloadable lessons we can keep on our computers and simply pull it/them up and refer to them whenever we hit a problem. I can assure you, I won't be the only one buying.... You're the best out there!
Thank you for the time and effort you put into teaching us this! I for one know what it takes to put out a good video (actually I perhaps know but cannot execute yet)... But, coming from Photoshop, years ago....absolutely REFUSING to pay THOUSAND dollars a year...CRAZYNESS and you own nothing. So Affinity has been a blessing as I was making thumbnails in Davinci Resolve and Power Director and Photo Director.... Affinity has become popular because of the Adobe trying to get you to allow them access to all your creations was the straw that broke the camels back! So now, you my friend, will be inherently more popular and perfect timing, as you have a mellow, easy to follow way of instruction. Thank you
@@bydesignmethod Indeed, friend. I am listening to your affinity designer tutorial for beginners right now. Thanks again, you make it easy to follow for me...having one screen with your video, the other monitor having the program up.
I have Affinity Publisher and Affinity Designer. Was thinking about getting Affinity photos and thought I'd check out some videos before my purchase. Well, you're actually teaching me some things that I can use in the other software! Thanks for being super informative while also not boring. I typically am ready to end it all after watching the usual long ass, winded, monotone teachers 😫 got yerself a new subscriber, buddy... don't know exactly why I went country in that last sentence🤷🏽♀️
Just awesome. Thanks for the tutorial, needed this very much to start my career as a freelance graphic designer. Though I know very little about Photoshop and Illustrator. But I find Affinity is suitable for a beginner like me.

Additional little tip for brush size and hardness: you can quickly change them by holding Ctrl + Alt + left mouse button and respectively dragging the mouse left-right or up-down. Maybe someone else already posted that, but I didn't see it.

I was so bad at Affinity Photo that I was struggling to make glowing text for like 2 hours, but this tutorial has made stuff like masking, the inpainting brush, the healing brush, layers, selection, and such seem wayyy less intimidating and faster, I'm honestly very surprised with how much time you've probably saved me from just coming across issues and googling fixes or workarounds

@@bydesignmethod And I mean pure lemon juice, not the lemon itself
Your tutorials are so great and clear. Now that many people are switching from PS to Affinity I hope your channel grows and becomes the number one Affinity TH-cam channel. THANK YOU ❤
Thank you, I hope so too LOL... I appreciate your support. It really does mean a lot. Thank you!
Thanks so much for this beginner's inclusive tutorial. It made a lot of concepts that have found challenging seem more understandable. I'm sure I will be referring back as I continue to learn.
Fantastic! thanks so much for watching and leaving a comment!
This is by far the best introduction instruction for Affinity Photo. You are an excellent instructor. Great explanations, examples and pacing. Thank you!
Thank you very much! I really appreciate you watching and taking some of your own time to leave a comment.
I'm so happy it helped!
@ 45:14 I just got done with another Affinity guide that was an hour long that didn't cover this problem. I was trying to figure it out for about 2 hours now LMAO. For this you've earned my sub. Going to watch your other guides since I bought the affinity suite a couple of months ago.
Thank you so much! I'm glad you found it helpful. I had to browse to 45:14 to check it out LOL
Appreciate you subbing! more on the way
This was great - just the right amount of info and everything was useful! Thank you!
Thank you so much for watching! appreciate it!
just got affinity and it was my first time photo editing on pc and this tutorial is amazing. thanks a lot man :D
Hey, you're so welcome! thanks so much for watching and leaving a comment.
Have fun!!
I'm coming from years of photoshop and I recently started using Affinity in the iPad so I'm in that weird spot where I know a bunch of editing stuff but in a new environment. I gotta say that your video lessons are legit amazing-you're like that cool teacher in school cause you explain and teach everything in a really fun and engaging way, like even if I already know half of the stuff you're explaning I still find myself wanting to listen in anyway cause the video is edited really well and you're just generally really cool and fun about it hahaha
Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience!
Wow, this is probably one of my favourite comments ever. Thank you so much, what a compliment!
Absolutely wonderful course!!!!
Thank you so much for watching I really do hope it helped.
Appreciate you leaving a comment!
I *thought* I had edited it out (hence the claps to remind myself LOL)
I truly appreciate you watching and subscribing! Affinity is super powerful and I think you'll love it!
Great video! Thank you! Just switched from Adobe
Welcome! and thank you so much for watching. Truly appreciated!
I echo below. The best tutorial covering all the essentials to get started. Many thanks.
Thank you so much for watching!
I've just moved away from Photoshop and bought Affinity photo 2. At the price it's going for now it's a bargain. I'm done with Adobes greed.
I have been looking for a good video to explain this software and this is by for the best I've came across.
Many thanks for doing it. So easy to follow.
That's great to hear and thank you so much for watching! I hope it helped.
Thank you for this video! Being new to Affinity Photo, this is just what I needed to help me get started.
I really hope it helps, thanks so much for watching and have fun!

Thank you very much!
Thank you
Thank you so much, that is very kind of you and I truly appreciate those words!
@@bydesignmethod Indeed, friend.
I am listening to your affinity designer tutorial for beginners right now.
Thanks again, you make it easy to follow for me...having one screen with your video, the other monitor having the program up.
thanks for sharing your knowledge, a great insight into getting started and its helped
I'm so glad it helped and thank you very much for taking a moment of your own time to leave me a comment. I really appreciate that.
Thanks Lola, I really appreciate that!
I checked out your channel and you're super talented, keep that channel growing!
That's all for now Ma'am 🤠
@bydesignmethod awww, thanks so much!
Just awesome. Thanks for the tutorial, needed this very much to start my career as a freelance graphic designer. Though I know very little about Photoshop and Illustrator. But I find Affinity is suitable for a beginner like me.
I'm so glad you found my video. I really hope it helps you become a freelance graphic designer.
Affinity has all the tools you need. Good luck and thank you so much for leaving this comment. I truly appreciate this.
hey, great video you explained everything so simply and all the information just goes straight in,thanks for the help.
I'm so glad to hear you liked it, thank you so much for watching and taking a moment of your time to leave me a comment!
Additional little tip for brush size and hardness: you can quickly change them by holding Ctrl + Alt + left mouse button and respectively dragging the mouse left-right or up-down. Maybe someone else already posted that, but I didn't see it.
Thank you for adding that!
Hi I loved this video!!! I felt bad for you having the cough!!! I knew why you did the clapping! Non of those things bothered me!!! I've been using AP for a few years! But there was a few things that I was struggling with!!! You cleaned them up for me!!! New subscriber!!!
Thanks so much! Yes the claps were supposed to be for editing lol.. my bad.. I'm glad they didn't bother you! thank you so much for subscribing, I truly appreciate everyone that does!
Nice Intro. Lots of hard work to put it together- many thanks

Thank you. I have just purchased affinity photo 2 a couple of days ago and didn't know where to start. I haven't used a photo editing program before. Somehow I stumbled across your video and found it so helpful. There is still a lot I don't understand but I now know some of the basics and where to start. I will look for more of your videos. Just wondering what would be the best for me to watch after this one. Thanks again. So helpful and easy for a beginner granny to follow.

Thank you so much for watching - Merry Christmas to you too!
I'm so happy to hear that! thank you very much for watching and taking a moment of your own time to let me know - that makes me feel great. Appreciate you!
Great Tutorial I’ve been wanting to sharpen my skills in designing but was a little intimidated by it and was in a cross between affinity and photoshop but this tutorial has helped me out a lot You’re a Great Teacher 🔥🔥🔥

Excellent tutorial, easy to understand and follow my only complaint being , I wish the cursor was larger and a bright green or yellow to pick it out quicker. Cheers Mal.
Thank you for watching and thank you for making that note, I will look into that for future tutorials!
Thank you so much for this video. I think this software can replace Photoshop for people who don’t want to pay a monthly fee and not into using plug-ins. ❤❤❤ This software can do so many things for a small cost. Well done. 😊

A well-paced comprehensive overview that gives beginners a working knowledge of Affinity. Before you spend on an 'x day tutorial' , watch this.

Thank you so much for creating this tutorial! Really appreciate you taking the time to film all these clips to give an overview. I was so overwhelmed before but understand it a lot better now. Thanks man!
Only a few videos on Designer but will have something in the future. Appreciate you!
I downloaded the Trial earlier today, and couldn't make sense of it, then I came across this Vid, now instead of dumping it, I am going to buy it. Many thanks
Amazing! that is one of the best comments I've ever gotten.

I admire how you recorded this video with a cold. Keep going and I'm very excited to see more content from you. Thank you for helping me transition to Affinity Photo 2. 😁
Proverbs 20:4 (King James Version)
"The sluggard will not plow by reason of the cold; therefore shall he beg in harvest, and have nothing."
I just decided to share the verse from the Bible above because of how you did this video! 👑
Thank you very much! it was the cold that seemed to last forever but I'm back to normal now.
Thank you for watching and also sharing that, very cool
@@bydesignmethod You're welcome! 👑
asi explican los buenos profesores, buen video y bien explicado, gracias
muchas gracias. Realmente aprecio tus amables palabras.
Thanks for this! I've been trying to use Photopea because I don't want Photoshop, but it's very buggy and slow, so I'm doing the free trial for Affinity and I think I'm going to buy it. I'm having a heck of a time doing basic things though, like making and saving a color gradient fill layer to use as a custom vignette, so I really need this video.
Hey,
I tried Photopea as well (not too long ago) and I just couldn't get into it.
Interesting idea, I've never tried saving a gradient fill for a vignette.. will have to poke around
@@bydesignmethod PLEASE do a video on this when you've had a chance to play around with it. This is one area where Photopea is worth the effort, at least until I figure out how to correctly do it in Affinity. lol
