She grew up in part of Canada (near Toronto) and part of the Northern U.S. (somewhere in Minnesota) so she speaks English better than the rest of the members (who are not bad at all; no hate here). Red Velvet is considered to be from the Third Generation of K-Pop. Wendy's vocal ability is right behind that of Kim Taeyeon's voice. Taeyeon is the leader of Girls Generation (also called SNSD), which is a Second-Generation group. In all of K-Pop, these two top the list for vocals (at least for me). Wendy took a fall during a practice run at a show around Christmas 2019, while the group was trying to promote for Psycho. Wendy got HURT BADLY and spent more than a year out of the spotlight. She broke either her hip or her actual Pelvic Bone (details are sketchy and my memory is not exactly the best), she broke one of her wrists and she broke one of her cheekbones. Solar (leader of of Mamamoo) found Wendy and called for help. They got her to the hospital alright, she got the help she needed as fast as they could get it to her. The messed up hip or pelvic bone meant she basically had to learn to walk all over again, then after she was done with that she had to get back into shape in order to be able to dance again. If it actually was her pelvic bone that broke, that could have paralyzed her. The broken wrist is almost an afterthought compared to the rest of her injuries. Her cheekbone being broken could have been the end of her Singing career if not handled carefully. They had to wire her jaw shut in order to align the bone correctly. If it had not healed properly, vibration just from talking could hurt her, let alone trying sing and especially to belt those big notes of hers. The group could not perform without their Main Vocalist, plus being freaked out by the rough treatment they got from that show; that particular show also abused the fandom. Shortly after that happened is when Irene and Seulgi wound up doing their Sub-Unit stuff (Monster, Naughty, etc).

I'd suggest Red Flavor, Dumb Dumb and Sappy (Japanese) for "red" songs, and Peekaboo, Bad Boy, Really Bad Boy, Psycho and Wildside (Japanese) for "velvet" (Peekaboo and Really Bad Boy are still very much on the playful side). They have a lot of diversity in their discography, lots of weirdness and fantastic vocals, and yes a lot of cartoonish violence/murder (I introduced them to a friend as my favorite murder cult lol)

So many things to say about Red Velvet. In terms of commercial success, they are the 3rd most successful gg of the 3rd gen, behind Blackpink and Twice. They are managed by SM; who have a reputation of having the most good looking idols in their groups. In my opinion, among 3rd gen gg s they are Mamamoo 's only competition in vocal ability. I've been waiting for you guys to check out Red Velvet for AWHILE (even though you guys know a bit of them), they are very unique and let me just say they really like killing men in their MV's (you'll see what I mean) also they are Vocal Queens with Mamamoo THEY LEGIT SOUND THE EXACT SAME LIVE- and them and Dreamcatcher actually have my favorite B - Sides because of how CRAZY they get like the Rappers are singing and the Vocalists are Rapping it's just crazy (AND THE VOCAL FRYS)! I love this song A LOT personally it's not my favorite but I do adore it (plus my friend's birthday is today so I found that pretty funny), here are the Members from Oldest to Youngest-

Irene (Leader, Main Rapper, Lead Dancer, Vocalist, Visual, and Center): You guys already know her basically, she was the one who was in the Center a lot, she also was the one with the pink pants and the tie! She's known as the more cold and shy one in the Group (who also hates men, not really but she definitely isn't a big fan), but if she is in her comfort zone she is one of the goofiest Members and the Mom of the Group- she is also very close with Wendy and Seulgi aka shipped with them the most. She is also known as the Original Visual!
Seulgi (Main Dancer, and Lead Vocalist): You guys already know her she's the one with the buns, she is known as one of the Dancing Queens in K - Pop SHE IS AMAZING, and also she could legit be a Main Vocalist in any other Group her vocals are INSANE. She is also known to be very clumsy, and she apparently ghost walks I am not kidding she legit floats- she also cry laughs when she laughs too hard she starts crying and it's the cutest thing ever, we love our Seulgi Bear!
Wendy (Main Vocalist): She was the one at 3:52 the one that you guys fell in love with and her voice (She is legit my favorite Vocalist in K - Pop) her Vocals are like a Goddess/Angel/Siren all at the same time (also that hair is kind of like her hair in Bad Boy which is one of my favorites from her it's stunning), she is known to be very caring and hilarious she is also very Greasy like Moon especially towards Irene and a little bit with Joy- she also is an LGBT Queen she did a solo cover of their song Light Me Up and changed the lyric from "Ooh boy come and light me up" to "Ooh girl come and light me up", she also was on hiatus for a while during Psycho era because she fell off a stage thst was 2.5-3 meters tall and fractured her right wrist, jaw and hip!
Joy (Lead Rapper, and Vocalist): She was the one with the long black hair and the bangs, she actually is supposed to be the Lead Vocalist and Rapper because nowadays she doesn't Rap as much as before but can still spit if she wanted to- she is actually known to be The Girl in the Rainbow Dress and Sexy Dynamite for MANY reasons (In Peek-A-Boo era she wore a Rainbow Dress they all did but she pulled it off so well that they called her that) plus she's just very Lethal, but is also such a sweetheart with a Voice of a Disney Princess (also I am pretty sure that she is the Captain of WenRene so she can have Seulgi and Yeri to herself)!
Yeri (Rapper, Vocalist, and Maknae): She was one of the Rappers, she also had the jewels in her hair- she is very underrated not only with her Rap (she should be the Lead Rapper) but also with her Vocals she has such sweet and soft vocals just like Cotton Candy. She is known to be one of the most Savage Maknaes in K - Pop and we love her for it, she is also such a sweetheart who loves kids and Ariana Grande again you'll see what I mean, also her in short hair is not okay- it's very Lethal and it suits her VERY well, and she is usually shipped with Joy (because of how adorable and plus they love teasing their Unnies! 🤣😂

I'd suggest Red Flavor, Dumb Dumb and Sappy (Japanese) for "red" songs, and Peekaboo, Bad Boy, Really Bad Boy, Psycho and Wildside (Japanese) for "velvet" (Peekaboo and Really Bad Boy are still very much on the playful side). They have a lot of diversity in their discography, lots of weirdness and fantastic vocals, and yes a lot of cartoonish violence/murder (I introduced them to a friend as my favorite murder cult lol)

They are managed by SM; who have a reputation of having the most good looking idols in their groups.
In my opinion, among 3rd gen gg s they are Mamamoo 's only competition in vocal ability. This is mainly down to Wendy.
Irene may be the reason for (relative ) peace on the Korean peninsula.

Byul and Seulgi are especially close to the point Byul featured Seulgi on one of her songs called Selfish.

Red Velvet is the only group that I get into first by the group dynamics and then discovered their unique discography. I think that says a lot about their personality! Mamamoo is my ult group, but I have to admit, I don't know a group that does harmonies like this girls. And the one that you liked the voice at 3:55, is the main vocalist, Wendy. She has one of, if not my favorite voice not only in kpop!

Red Velvet is personally good friends with Mamamoo. They impulsively traded phone numbers while their cars were parked together after a show, shortly after debuting in the same year (2014). Solar and Irene are age-mates, Moonbyul and Seulgi have collaborated several times, including Moonbyul's "Selfish", and (as members of supergroup Girls Next Door) "Deep Blue Eyes". The latter was part of TV project show Idol Drama Operation Team, where they and 5 other female idols wrote a screenplay about their training experiences.
