Their red songs are usually not my cup of tea but Rookie and Russian Roulette are one of my fav RV tts. The creepy elements in those are so subtle but give a deeper meaning.

15:40 you're so spot on here. Irene is known to be the mastermind in their storylines, the one who causes troubles for the other members and more often than not you'll notice her giving a very creepy blank look in the MVs
red flavor was their first big hit, it's a summer anthem in Korea (red velvet are summer queens) and the mv introduce their oficial fruits in a cute, fun but strange way, you need to watch it 😭
and the pekaboo mv was a cultural reset, is the most creepy mv, yo need to watch it x2 😭

I still remember the shocked that i felt when i first watched the MV. It was give me u-turn vibe from before.
"Bad Boy" is THAT SONG...THAT. SONG. That's all I need to say. ALSO THERE'S AN ENGLISH VERSION AND IT'S SPICY. "Peek-A-Boo" and onward is where you REALLY see the fusion of their red and velvet concepts, although they still drop tracks that are separate in concept. "Bad Boy" is definitely more velvet but there's little "red" flares in it. Once you get to "Really Bad Boy" it's kind of the opposite in the sense that it is more red vibed but its got some R&B vocal tones that pull the velvet side in with it. BAD BOY AND PSYCHO ERA WENDY ARE MY FAVORITE STYLES OH MY GOD I CANNOT HANDLE HER HAIR AND CONTACTS AND JUST AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. Also Peek-A-Boo and Bad Boy gave us the induction of "Murder bang Seulgi" and like...She needs to wear that shit ALL THE TIME..
"Russian Roulette" era had a lot of incredible songs, "Bad Dracula" and "Lucky Girl" are my top two B-sides from that era. YERI RED HAIR ERA'S ARE JUST...AHHHHHHHHHHHH. Red Velvet has tables or they're sitting circled around SOMETHING in every MV almost.
"Rookie" was that HYPER DIVISIVE song...And I could NOT stand it at first if I'm honest. The more I began understanding Red Velvet's sound though, it grew on me. LOL For some reason I feel like I knew Kess would catch what sounded like "Nookie Nookie." LOL. "Matji, matji, geu neukkimjeogin neukkim, neukkim" is the line you caught. "Neukkim" I think translates to something like "My feelings for you are starting to show/come out." Joy's face she makes at the exploding wardrobe towards the end is HYSTERICAL. Iconic as fuck. Also parts of the set are moving and parts of them are CG editing movement. Flowerguy is a costume, and I SINCERELY thought it was Hitchhiker (DJ signed to SM Entertainment) for a hot minute.
So Red Velvet's storyline is SUPER DEEP AND COMPLEX and the best way that I can describe it (From the way that I have comprehended it, so...Reveluv's who know it better than I do don't come for me): They are all under Irene's mind control, which is kind of denoted by Irene's ending poses sometimes being different from the rest of the girls. Every time one of the members starts to realize it and try to fight against it she either kills them or something happens to bring them all back under her control (idk if kill is accurate but...SOME SHIT GOES DOWN.) That's why a lot of their videos are trippy AF. Zimzalabim is a perfect example: the rollercoaster scene around Irene's head. Irene puppeting the girls and focusing on something entirely different through the whole of the "Rookie" MV is also a good indicator.
Yeah but in the English version of Bad Boy they changed Irene's opener for some godforsaken reason.

I clicked so fast when I saw the notification, y'all I've been waiting for you guys to check these out (I wasn't expecting for y'all to check out Bad Boy yet but pop off)- dude Russian Roulette was INSANE when I first saw it my jaw dropped because of how iconic it was but also the way they were trying kill each other (they also really love killing men which again iconic) and their looks were great, I was going to have another guide but you guys kind of figured them out already which is great. Dude Rookie was not my favorite I mean it still isn't but it DEFINITELY grew on me and yeah it sounds like they're saying Lookie and Nookie but it's fine- 🤣😂

2017's Rookie was when a lot of Luvies learned the word "kitsch". I remember an early reaction pointed to one of the tops in the video that says "tacky" on it, but they're wearing expensive designer threads in this MV lol. Well, and the usual Frankenstein's mishmash of fabrics.

I think they rap less in their title tracks and the rappers have shifted from irene & joy (in ice cream cake) to mostly irene & yeri. Joy still raps in some b tracks though, and the other members have a bit of rap lines in recent songs. I also like yeri's voice. The more you listen to b-sides and color-coded lyric videos the more you appreciate each member's unique tone. And of course wendy!!! my fav girl

Tbh, I don't think Red Velvet care too much about rapping; they just rap if they have to. Singing is their main focus.
