Me gustas tu is when summer vacation, and maybe Rough is when winter vacation, but most people know Rough as "Graduation season" (because of lyrics) and remind Rough at that season. GFRIEND was basically overshadowed by BlackPink and Twice during their era. It is so awesome that more K-pop fans are discovering their music now. 9 years flew by so fast! It is really nostalgic listening to their music again.
Their lore is pretty complex, i at some point had a whole spreadsheet linking stuff together 😂 But the jist of it is, their concept goes from becoming a friend group, obtaining supernatural powers at some point in the storyline (the key power being time travel associated with eunha) and tldr, eunha typically goes back in time to save her members from hurting each other or themselves in search for "greater power" for the sake of their friendship, its quite a moving concept that gets to a close in crossroads, and starts basically from the first mv, its a very long story of friendship betrayal and the supernatural, you just have to follow the blue butterfly when it first appears ❤
I'm glad you guys are noticing the choreos so much. A lot of people these days have gotten so used to GGs doing crazy complex choreo so GFriend's don't stand out as much in hindsight. But they were absolutely groundbreaking at the time.
FUNFACT: ME GUSTAS TU was known as Korea's Kpop Nation Anthem as it reconnects & unites all fandom with each every lightsticks up and waving in one huge concert stage while they're performing School Trilogy. Its such a great performance in kpop history.❤
So as far as the lore goes, it is supposed to be consistently them throughout the years (with the concept being lifelong friends, and slightly sapphic-coded). The school trilogy (first three songs) represent a school year, summer break, and then graduation. With regards to Navillera, the lore for that song is actually that Yerin and Eunha are in love (yes, really! they confirmed it!). In later videos SinB and Yerin are in love (fingertip, crossroads), but the lore does go sort of off the rails starting with Fingertip (including time travel, lol), so don't get too overwhelmed with it!
Rough and Navillera are the 6th and 7th top kpop song EVER with the most wins on music shows (15 and 14 respectively), beat only by BTS x3, Apink, Psy, and EXO and tied for 6th with Wanna One and 7th with SNSD x2, EXO, and IVE. They held their OWN among the top 2nd and 3rd gen groups despite being from a small label.
Gfriend truly shows what "friendship" really is, both in irl and in MV's, it's so heartfelt, strong and beautiful. Their overall story is mainly about friendship and time travel/paralell universes to try find the universe that they are together again when they get seperated, that's why "season of memories" was so emotional, because they finally found each other again through time, that also paralelled their story irl with their journey as Gfriend since they have been away for 4 years but reunited. The vibe is also very heavily nostalgia as you guys noticed! They're known for their melancholic but powerful songs and synchronized and insanely hard choreo! Loved the reaction!! Kess had the same reaction as me, I was so overwhelmed with Rough which I saw first and then Navillera, it just hooked me so bad. They broke the record for longest charting song on MelOn, was the first 3rd gen group to get a PAK, invented the iconic 2x speed dance, made synchronized dancing known in kpop, iconic dance breaks and performances in every award shows, bringing back innocent and nostalgic concept in kpop, 1st GG to win 2 Triple Crowns in a single year, and queens of trilogies. Their music is SO uniquely them and us Buddies love it so much. Yuju is one of my biggest vocal inspirations next to Wendy, Ailee, and Taeyeon. The powerful soulful tone and butter smooth vocals. In the first part of Me Gustas Tu, it is Yerin who does the hopping over Umji while Yuju is the one who slid under.Umji. It is the song that put them on the map. In a performance on a wet, slippery stage because it was outdoors and it was raining with lots of insects, they kept falling (especially Yuju who fell multiple times and actually dislocated a finger) but they kept getting up to perform. Very young girls showing professionalism got them noticed and their next 2 songs, Rough and Navillera combined got them the record for a girl group with most music show wins in a year with 29. Not sure if that record has been broken already though. The song I remember with the most wins, though, is LUV by Apink with 17 (Rough had 15 while Navillera had 14). It;s kinda funny that stuff you took notice of are actual concepts they have throughout their songs. Their reunion song Season of Memories pays homage to Rough a lot (moving side to side featuring one member at a time, the ending with them moving towards the left then looking up)
back in the day gfriend is really popular, for me I'll consider them underappreciated. Their achievement coming from small company (source music is broke at that time) yet they are able to have the same popularity as the girlgroup from Big 3. Their song Rough achieve 15 wins and Navillera with 14. They have a lot of hits on their belt. Don't get me started how talented each member is, and for me Yuju is actually a very talented, her voice is such a treat and her dance skills is also good and she can write and produce songs too. Sowon is very under rated with her beauty. It a shame people don't appreciate them so much and throw hate on them because they are insanely good people and very talented. Rough actually won MAMA best dance performance in 2016 beating TWICE which is so great cause Cheer Up really swept that year. Also in the end of year, Cheer Up and Rough are basically top 1 and 2 most streamed song of 2016.

Actually in 2015-2016 is their trilogy of school concept, specifically it called power innocent. They show pure with beauty and talent as youth. They win their 1st trophy in music show in Rough era, and as you can see in navillera MV they wipe all of their trophy because they got 29 only in one year and it's such a boom. Fyi, they're the 1st group who created 2x speed dance in weekly idol and it's being a culture of kpop idol show until now. They're such a legend and keep developing source music go through difficulties, but the agency betrayed them even tho they reunited again in this early year :"). Well you guys are truly excited about a Gfriend deep dive after watching their "Season of Memories". I didn't expect you to get going so fast but I am all for it. I must say that you are great reactors. In your first deep dive session, you are grasping the keys of Gfriend magic so promptly. I would say that your educated instinct is serving you well. Gfriend's music is very special, particularly for those who can tune in to their core essence. You already experienced their beautiful vocal. While Gfriend members are known for their vocal, Yuju, the main vocal, is a once-in-a-blue-moon vocal monster with her immense power and unique color. And rather than suppressing her talent like in some group for uniformity, Gfriend decided to take full advantage of it and the result is self-evident. (maybe a bit too much) Also Gfriend's industry famous choreo is a true standout for its precision, expressiveness and elegance. Gfriend reset the standard of synchronization for girl groups. What is more precious is that their choreography execution is based on a lot of sweat and tears to achieve. Other than SinB as a recognized dancer, the girls worked long and hard to set their standard high. Most importantly, Gfriend's music feels genuine, sincere, and speaks to the listener's heart rather than ears, always about positive attributes each of us longed for during our younger days - friendship, joy, curiosity, consternation of the future, and the unchanging determination to be with your loved ones. I feel, Buddy, Gfriend fandom, is a loyal bunch because, rather than be thrilled or fascinated by their idols, they feel they are in the company of their soulmate who can listen and console when listening to Gfriend. Can't begin to express how grateful and happy I am that you guys are deep diving GFriend and getting to experience what many of us have already --- I wish I could trade places and experience them for the first time again. They're my ults in K-Pop, they are masters, absolute masters of that nostalgic vibe and their music is impeccable, not just the title tracks, but their b-sides as well, maybe only rivaled by Red Velvet for sheer depth. Their music hits me in a way that few other things have, their weird mash up of early 90s new jack city R&B with symphonic arrangements and sparkling, J-Pop melodies is just an incredible musical amalgam. I'm going to really enjoy reliving getting to know GFriend again through your eyes. As you could already tell only 4 MVs in, there is a reason why they are such a legendary and special group. There is no one else like them in the industry, and any time any other group does a song that's even remotely in a similar style, the first thing that comes to people's minds is "Hey, this reminds me of GFriend." Their music definitely changed throughout the years, but that special sauce that made them so beloved never went away and a lot of that comes down to the members themselves. Such a perfect combination of quirky, funny, and talented girls with an unbreakable bond ever since the beginning and still today 10 years later.

To get a bit of an idea of the lore, they made a couple of videos for them from Glass bead to Crossroads; A tale of the glass beas series but not much of the details. But I think based on the mini story books included in their Labyrinth, Song of the Sirens and Walpurgis night Albums: so basically they got magical abilities in the lake; they got envy with each other abilities; they fight each other; eunha suddenly realizes if the gift was a blessing or a curse; eunha went to an old bookstore in a far away town to get information about the blue butterflies and because her ability can awaken the blue butterfly's power to turn back time again and again to save her friends at the cost of her Glass Bead turning dark; but everytime she went back in time, everything gets worse; that's why most in their MVs they are separated at first then became together again at the end. If I also remember correctly, there was another member who went to the town and got information about the blue butterfly after eunha, no more further details about that but I think that could be Sowon or SinB since SinB and Eunha are always together on the MV like Fingertip (they were together when SinB suddenly awakens while Eunha was on bed sleeping, Crossroads where they were arguing, and Season of memories at the end of the MV where they were together at the seat on the train while everyone have their own seats.) so lovely that both of you curious about GFRIEND, you should continue to watch their MV step by step because GFRIEND concept is not like other Kpop group, they have story behind it and continuity, there's a lot theories about 6 pure girls with "Glass bead", "time", "navillera" (butterfly or butterfly effect), and Eunha with long hair and short hair. Theres story behind it why eunha has a short hair in navillera and you can find some theory why eunha has a long hair in "time for the moon night". Its really fun and interesting to follow Gfriend story, we always say its Gfriend universe. the story is always back and forth and you will find some clues in their Photos, MV in every comeback. That is why I really love Gfriend not just their music but they have story behind it. I believe the theory still connect with Viviz with BOP song, Red and Sun performance concept. Everything are connected with Time. -love-
my favorite lore with gfriend has to be their pairing with mamamoo during 2016. they had a combined show and weekly idol special, it was both the most chaotic and hilarious dream come true for me as a girl group stan at the time. i look forward to your future reactions to these girls and their "beagleness" 😅

They can react as a second party to the dance practices and will be able to clearly see their impressive choreographies and synchronization, which were some of the things that made them stand out the most in their time. There are even videos of the girls dancing blindfolded, and at no point do they appear lost or out of place

I can't wait for you guys to react to my favorite song of theirs, APPLE. They are very diverse in their vocals, they all have very good vocals, but unfortunately they don't use them much. They only used Yerin's voice more, for example, when Yuju "left" the group, because she got her high note in Time for the Moonnight, she really has one of the best vocals in the group. Another one is Umji, her vocals are also very good, but unfortunately she isn't used much either, but when it was only Eunha, Sinb and Umji (who now form Viviz) left, Umji got Yuju's high notes in the song, showing that they really didn't show her vocals at all. But in my opinion, one of their best eras was Apple, because they give high marks to Yuju, Eunha and Umji, together with a more mature and witchy concept, but one bad point of all this is that they don't have rap in their songs, and if they did, Sowon, Umji and Sinb would be in that position because they both rap very well. In the case of Sinb and Umji, we can see their rap in some of Viviz's songs and they are really good (Umji is the Main Rapper in Viviz and lead in GFRIEND, in GFRIEND Sowon would be the main rapper). Another thing, but also very sad, was that right at the beginning of the group, Umji was already considered the ugliest Idol in the world, just because she didn't fit the Korean standard, when she was younger, she was chubby, chubby cheeks (very cute) but for Koreans she was ugly, because she didn't fit their ridiculous standard 😢
I love Gfriend! They were the second group that got me into Kpop. I love them 🥰 Love Whisper, Rainbow, Rough, Time for the moon night, and Falling Light definitely changed my life for the better
I barely knew Gfriend a couple of months ago, and yes, I think Rough has to be of the best songs ever produced in the entire industry. It feels like a timeless masterpiece, the instrumental is just too good and the vocals couldn't be more on point. And I'm saying this being a ONCE to the bone: I laugh in disbelief when I found out that Rough was from 2016, which means it lost the SOTY award to Cheer up at MAMA 2016, I found that funny because I feel Rough is so much better musically, but maybe it didn't get a super iconic line or a viral moment. They won the choreography category thou, so at least they got some justice.

The first three songs are called "School triology". Me gustas tu is when summer vacation, and maybe Rough is when winter vacation, but most people know Rough as "Graduation season" (because of lyrics) and remind Rough at that season.
Many of Gfriend's songs has two name, the Korean one, and the English one.
"Me gustas tu" is Spanish sentence, but it's Korean title is "From today, We"
Rough's Korean title is "Run through the time" (so it has clock sound and choreo)
Navillera's Korean title is "You and Me"

GFRIEND was basically overshadowed by BlackPink and Twice during their era. It is so awesome that more K-pop fans are discovering their music now. 9 years flew by so fast! It is really nostalgic listening to their music again.

But the jist of it is, their concept goes from becoming a friend group, obtaining supernatural powers at some point in the storyline (the key power being time travel associated with eunha) and tldr, eunha typically goes back in time to save her members from hurting each other or themselves in search for "greater power" for the sake of their friendship, its quite a moving concept that gets to a close in crossroads, and starts basically from the first mv, its a very long story of friendship betrayal and the supernatural, you just have to follow the blue butterfly when it first appears ❤

I'm glad you guys are noticing the choreos so much. A lot of people these days have gotten so used to GGs doing crazy complex choreo so GFriend's don't stand out as much in hindsight. But they were absolutely groundbreaking at the time.

So as far as the lore goes, it is supposed to be consistently them throughout the years (with the concept being lifelong friends, and slightly sapphic-coded). The school trilogy (first three songs) represent a school year, summer break, and then graduation. With regards to Navillera, the lore for that song is actually that Yerin and Eunha are in love (yes, really! they confirmed it!). In later videos SinB and Yerin are in love (fingertip, crossroads), but the lore does go sort of off the rails starting with Fingertip (including time travel, lol), so don't get too overwhelmed with it!
Rough and Navillera are the 6th and 7th top kpop song EVER with the most wins on music shows (15 and 14 respectively), beat only by BTS x3, Apink, Psy, and EXO and tied for 6th with Wanna One and 7th with SNSD x2, EXO, and IVE. They held their OWN among the top 2nd and 3rd gen groups despite being from a small label.

Goosebump is a normal reaction to GF songs because they somehow evoke a sense of nostalgia and longing for something/ someone long forgotten.
Gfriend truly shows what "friendship" really is, both in irl and in MV's, it's so heartfelt, strong and beautiful. Their overall story is mainly about friendship and time travel/paralell universes to try find the universe that they are together again when they get seperated, that's why "season of memories" was so emotional, because they finally found each other again through time, that also paralelled their story irl with their journey as Gfriend since they have been away for 4 years but reunited.
The vibe is also very heavily nostalgia as you guys noticed! They're known for their melancholic but powerful songs and synchronized and insanely hard choreo! Loved the reaction!! Kess had the same reaction as me, I was so overwhelmed with Rough which I saw first and then Navillera, it just hooked me so bad. In the first part of Me Gustas Tu, it is Yerin who does the hopping over Umji while Yuju is the one who slid under.Umji. It is the song that put them on the map. In a performance on a wet, slippery stage because it was outdoors and it was raining with lots of insects, they kept falling (especially Yuju who fell multiple times and actually dislocated a finger) but they kept getting up to perform. Very young girls showing professionalism got them noticed and their next 2 songs, Rough and Navillera combined got them the record for a girl group with most music show wins in a year with 29. Not sure if that record has been broken already though. The song I remember with the most wins, though, is LUV by Apink with 17 (Rough had 15 while Navillera had 14).
It;s kinda funny that stuff you took notice of are actual concepts they have throughout their songs. Their reunion song Season of Memories pays homage to Rough a lot (moving side to side featuring one member at a time, the ending with them moving towards the left then looking up)

back in the day gfriend is really popular, for me I'll consider them underappreciated. Their achievement coming from small company (source music is broke at that time) yet they are able to have the same popularity as the girlgroup from Big 3. Their song Rough achieve 15 wins and Navillera with 14. They have a lot of hits on their belt.
Don't get me started how talented each member is, and for me Yuju is actually a very talented, her voice is such a treat and her dance skills is also good and she can write and produce songs too. Sowon is very under rated with her beauty.
It a shame people don't appreciate them so much and throw hate on them because they are insanely good people and very talented.

Rough actually won MAMA best dance performance in 2016 beating TWICE which is so great cause Cheer Up really swept that year. Also in the end of year, Cheer Up and Rough are basically top 1 and 2 most streamed song of 2016.

Actually in 2015-2016 is their trilogy of school concept, specifically it called power innocent. They show pure with beauty and talent as youth. They win their 1st trophy in music show in Rough era, and as you can see in navillera MV they wipe all of their trophy because they got 29 only in one year and it's such a boom. Fyi, they're the 1st group who created 2x speed dance in weekly idol and it's being a culture of kpop idol show until now. They're such a legend and keep developing source music go through difficulties, but the agency betrayed them even tho they reunited again in this early year :"). Well you guys are truly excited about a Gfriend deep dive after watching their "Season of Memories". I didn't expect you to get going so fast but I am all for it.
I must say that you are great reactors. In your first deep dive session, you are grasping the keys of Gfriend magic so promptly. I would say that your educated instinct is serving you well. Gfriend's music is very special, particularly for those who can tune in to their core essence. You already experienced their beautiful vocal. While Gfriend members are known for their vocal, Yuju, the main vocal, is a once-in-a-blue-moon vocal monster with her immense power and unique color. And rather than suppressing her talent like in some group for uniformity, Gfriend decided to take full advantage of it and the result is self-evident. (maybe a bit too much)
Also Gfriend's industry famous choreo is a true standout for its precision, expressiveness and elegance. Gfriend reset the standard of synchronization for girl groups. What is more precious is that their choreography execution is based on a lot of sweat and tears to achieve. Other than SinB as a recognized dancer, the girls worked long and hard to set their standard high. Most importantly, Gfriend's music feels genuine, sincere, and speaks to the listener's heart rather than ears, always about positive attributes each of us longed for during our younger days - friendship, joy, curiosity, consternation of the future, and the unchanging determination to be with your loved ones. They're my ults in K-Pop, they are masters, absolute masters of that nostalgic vibe and their music is impeccable, not just the title tracks, but their b-sides as well, maybe only rivaled by Red Velvet for sheer depth. I'm going to really enjoy reliving getting to know GFriend again through your eyes. As you could already tell only 4 MVs in, there is a reason why they are such a legendary and special group. There is no one else like them in the industry, and any time any other group does a song that's even remotely in a similar style, the first thing that comes to people's minds is "Hey, this reminds me of GFriend." Their music definitely changed throughout the years, but that special sauce that made them so beloved never went away and a lot of that comes down to the members themselves. Such a perfect combination of quirky, funny, and talented girls with an unbreakable bond ever since the beginning and still today 10 years later.

To get a bit of an idea of the lore, they made a couple of videos for them from Glass bead to Crossroads; A tale of the glass beas series but not much of the details. But I think based on the mini story books included in their Labyrinth, Song of the Sirens and Walpurgis night Albums: so basically they got magical abilities in the lake; they got envy with each other abilities; they fight each other; eunha suddenly realizes if the gift was a blessing or a curse; eunha went to an old bookstore in a far away town to get information about the blue butterflies and because her ability can awaken the blue butterfly's power to turn back time again and again to save her friends at the cost of her Glass Bead turning dark; but everytime she went back in time, everything gets worse; that's why most in their MVs they are separated at first then became together again at the end. If I also remember correctly, there was another member who went to the town and got information about the blue butterfly after eunha, no more further details about that but I think that could be Sowon or SinB since SinB and Eunha are always together on the MV like Fingertip (they were together when SinB suddenly awakens while Eunha was on bed sleeping, Crossroads where they were arguing, and Season of memories at the end of the MV where they were together at the seat on the train while everyone have their own seats.)

so lovely that both of you curious about GFRIEND, you should continue to watch their MV step by step because GFRIEND concept is not like other Kpop group, they have story behind it and continuity, there's a lot theories about 6 pure girls with "Glass bead", "time", "navillera" (butterfly or butterfly effect), and Eunha with long hair and short hair. Theres story behind it why eunha has a short hair in navillera and you can find some theory why eunha has a long hair in "time for the moon night".
Its really fun and interesting to follow Gfriend story, we always say its Gfriend universe. the story is always back and forth and you will find some clues in their Photos, MV in every comeback. That is why I really love Gfriend not just their music but they have story behind it. I believe the theory still connect with Viviz with BOP song, Red and Sun performance concept.

I can't wait for you guys to react to my favorite song of theirs, APPLE. They are very diverse in their vocals, they all have very good vocals, but unfortunately they don't use them much. They only used Yerin's voice more, for example, when Yuju "left" the group, because she got her high note in Time for the Moonnight, she really has one of the best vocals in the group. Another one is Umji, her vocals are also very good, but unfortunately she isn't used much either, but when it was only Eunha, Sinb and Umji (who now form Viviz) left, Umji got Yuju's high notes in the song, showing that they really didn't show her vocals at all. But in my opinion, one of their best eras was Apple, because they give high marks to Yuju, Eunha and Umji, together with a more mature and witchy concept, but one bad point of all this is that they don't have rap in their songs, and if they did, Sowon, Umji and Sinb would be in that position because they both rap very well. In the case of Sinb and Umji, we can see their rap in some of Viviz's songs and they are really good (Umji is the Main Rapper in Viviz and lead in GFRIEND, in GFRIEND Sowon would be the main rapper). Another thing, but also very sad, was that right at the beginning of the group, Umji was already considered the ugliest Idol in the world, just because she didn't fit the Korean standard, when she was younger, she was chubby, chubby cheeks (very cute) but for Koreans she was ugly, because she didn't fit their ridiculous standard 😢
I love Gfriend! They were the second group that got me into Kpop. I love them 🥰 Love Whisper, Rainbow, Rough, Time for the moon night, and Falling Light definitely changed my life for the better
I barely knew Gfriend a couple of months ago, and yes, I think Rough has to be of the best songs ever produced in the entire industry. It feels like a timeless masterpiece, the instrumental is just too good and the vocals couldn't be more on point.
And I'm saying this being a ONCE to the bone: I laugh in disbelief when I found out that Rough was from 2016, which means it lost the SOTY award to Cheer up at MAMA 2016, I found that funny because I feel Rough is so much better musically, but maybe it didn't get a super iconic line or a viral moment. They won the choreography category thou, so at least they got some justice.
