Great Vid Kev, but ya gotta stop dropping the F bomb man... Sim racers don't like the word FUN, it's like if they are having fun it can't be a good racing game. 🤣

Im not usually a super rally guy, i mostly play F1 or ACC when i do some racing.
This game is so much FUN, its exactly what i was waiting for, an improved Dirt 2.0 with the official WRC license!

Driveclub still has the best rain-on-windshield effects after all these years. Those devs at Evolution Studios were so ahead of their time. It's a shame the studio was shut down. Some of them ended up as the Dev team that worked on Dirt 5.

Great review cause you pointed out what is realy important to know from a Sim(cade)!! For me the best Review from WRC 23 so far and I watched a ton of them👍👌!! And it is by far more a Sim than an Arcade Game!! The gravel Physics are soooo amazing for me After Setting my FFB Perfect and going Deep in them after a few ours of Driving. So many people that say the Physics are shit, mad, Arcady and so on. At least the gravel Physics are so wonderful and on Point, think a lot of people didnt spend enough time to Go Deep in them or arent be able to Go that Deep as it needs!! (Sorry for my awful english) Abo for you and hopefully a lot more WRC 23 stuff from you for us👍👌!

Great that you turned the codriver volume down. It makes understanding you way easier for a non-native viewer :)
Please don't call people that dislike the game and speak openly about its drawbacks "haters" or "snobs".
You could just state your opinins, describe what you like, don't like etc (just how you did) but constantly repeating that the game is great fun, you should buy it seems a bit pushy.
Also people had all the reasons to expect a more sim experience after that marketing from EA - that was obvioulsly misleading so it's naural that players are frustrated and speak out.

when a video turns into a review of the simracing community...
and you're right, negativity sells unfortunately
i also think people invest so much of their time and money into sims/games and equipment that their way has to be the right way and have maybe forgotten that they ultimately got into this hobby to have fun
sometimes it's the less serious titles that remind us of that

I definitely do notice graphical differences between high and medium though, especially with foliage next to the road. But again in most cars you are going so quick you don't have the time to notice or care all that much.

I'm no rally driver but in my experience on back roads (I'm in Canada too) hard-pack gravel like it seemed in Sardinia doesn't become mud in the rain, it just gets wet. It would have almost similar grip loss to tarmac when wet I figure. To really try mud maybe Kenya or Oceania in the rain?

I did have a little shimmering on gravel. I ended up reverting to default video settings and it helped. Now, I'm slowly changing settings one at a time (I'm running an AMD 6700XT). As a Pseudo VR, I've been using virtual desktop as a big monitor in my Quest 3. Be nice when native VR comes. But, until then this will work.

On loose surfaces in a 4WD rally car is it easier to achieve throttle-oversteer than it was in DR2.0? I always felt like the cars understeered too much on the throttle in DR2.0 once you got past 2nd gear. This is a difference between DR2.0 and Richard Burns Rally. On gravel in RBR you can basically hit the brake to shift weight forward or give the steering wheel a quick flick then get on the power and the car will throttle oversteer on gravel (even in the higher gears). In DR2.0 the 4WD rally cars struggle to power oversteer even in 2nd gear. This actually leads to the driver having less control over the car. Its why you can do bigger/longer power slides in RBR.

    • @n0body550

4WD on gravel absolutely has that on throttle oversteer, they are rather fun, always mess with setups mostly roll bars and dampeners to get the feel from the cars you want

I'm loving this game, haven't really had performance issues, but I've got OP hardware.
This game is a huge improvement over Dirt Rally 2.0, which I still play in VR while waiting for VR in WRC.
I already miss the physics/sounds/stages/graphics from WRC, lmao.
For the realism/immersion aspect the only thing I'm missing are more serious unexpected moments, more human co-driver reactions and background noises from crowds, like in WRC Rally Evolved.
Other than that, all I need is VR support and I can stay inside for the rest of the year, lmao.

Good review. I agree with most points you made. We can talk about graphics and physics and so on, but at the end of the day, we all knew this was going to be Dirt Rally 2.0 "Plus" at the very least, which would be a very good game. I think the deal-maker for this game would be the career mode and so far, it is looking promising.
I was going to wait for a sale to get the game, but the more I see of it, the more I just want to get it now. The only concern for now is game performance.

    • @Bratmouse1
      @Bratmouse1  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Thanks man! Overall I only get a stutter every once in a while. But it also seems to be different for everyone. I mean also some people just crank the graphics up and then complain about performance. So it’s all in moderation.

  • @EspenFrafalne
    @EspenFrafalne 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Im not gonna say too much about what is realistic or not, but like you said, EA WRC has too much grip, but the physics still feels surprisingly "refined", which adds to the realism. Dirt 2.0 on the other hand seems to have too little grip compared to what i would expect. After watching a few rally videos for comparison, my impression is that WRC 10 also have a bit too much grip, but is still closer to reality than both EA WRC and Dirt 2.0. I still enjoy all 3 titles a lot though, and would recommend them all. Dirt 2.0 maybe more for enthusiasts tbh, but still a good game - even for me; who have no interest in cars except for in racing games 👍

The game is very nice in terms of evrything, neither I cannot understand the negativity of some people. Why they simply do not enjoy the variety of beautiful tracks and lots of vehicles and the balnce between sim and a bit easier handling is beyond me. This game is good. Most things I liked in Dirt4 and DR2 came over while a whole lot got added. I see no social media. But I did see a video that validated something I thought was a bit off and that is the steering pivot point. It seems the pivot point is always the center of the car as if you had 4-wheel steering. The pivot point should be in the rear normally and at the front if you are drifting. It's like they did the average of that. Check it yourself with external cam view and maybe you can talk about it in the next stream.

I see you disabled mirrors, which is a good move considering the FPS hog it is. Car reflections are also insanely expensive. After that if you got 15 FPS to spare I suggest you force DLAA with DLSSTweaks, and add a good bit of sharpening with Nvida control panel. Game will be legit pretty after that.

Beyond that, the co-driver calls are extremely delayed in some locations, like Kenya.
As a whole I'm going to play it, but there are some oversights that are headscratchers.

Everyone needs to remember that this game is sanctioned by the WRC . The WRC is a racing organization and is looking to use this association with a game developer to promote the sport. A sport that is not as popular as other motorsports. So it needs to appeal to the masses to a certain extent. The more popular WRC becomes the more it may encourage other developers to make Rally titles.
A full sim would not bring in enough revenue due to it's niche market. On that note , if they put in an option in this game to have full blown sim handling I predict the following would happen. People who are casual gamers and not sim racers would try this mode and not have sufficient skills to take full advantage because the community would encourage them to believe unless they they play on that level the game is mickey mouse. The result being the game being declare a piece of crap. Human nature being what it is. The exact opposite of the intention on this game to promote the sport from the WRC's perspective and to make money from the developers perspective. This game seems to be a good comprimise.
I liken it to Golf. If you never played the game watching on TV can be as exciting as watching as watching paint dry . But, if you have ever played a round or two , watching the skill of the pro's is quite fixating.

    More ranting than actual review.
A lot about graphics which is not that relevant.
Sound? You chose a car that was used for marketing of this game and the one that is iconic. Obviously those would be fine. How about those less popular, I heard that quality is not consistent across the car pool.
I disagree with all that fun bs. It leads to the point where devs are afraid to punish players for mistakes because everyone wants to be a champion within an hour and without effort. It gives us superficial and simplistic games so players don't feel dumb and don't get discouraged. Is this where we want to go? I agree though that market is too small to get anything better now and maybe we need to appeal to the masses first so it grows.
In terms of returning policy. I don't think 2h is enough to find out. You need to set up gear first.
I value that you shared your exp and opinions about snow etc. Was worth to listen just for that.

I’m sorry you didn’t like the review. Maybe you should make video and I’ll tear it apart. Oh wait I wouldn’t do that. I do this for fun and that’s what I do it for. I’m not an expert on video games, I’m not an expert reviewer, I’m not an expert script writer. All that I am is a guy with 32 years of real life racing experience and trying to bridge the understanding between real and sim racing. And above everything All that TH-cam channels are, are that persons opinions and that’s all it is. As far as “punishing players and making it to easy” how far are you up the leaderboards? This like any rally game before it is extremely challenging. As far developers giving us simplistic games that’s not what I’m saying. Those comments are based on some of the most rediculous things I’ve been reading for the past week. Do I need it to be full “so called simulation” no. Do I want it to be “NFS” no. I’m just saying there is too many people complaining in this world about everything. And it needs to stop. People need to enjoy themselves more. So with that being said. Again I’m very sorry for this video not being up to your standards. It is a ton of work to make these videos hours and hours and hours. So for someone to tear it apart is exactly what I’m talking about with social media. All that I’m trying to do is share my love gaming and racing to fellow like minded people. Thanks again!

    • @MishimaHunter
      @MishimaHunter 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

It's not about tearing apart. I don't think I was disrespectful.
I'm not raising star of sim racing and I don't care to be one. All I want is to have a believable journey where I can improve and have a satisfaction from that. Fun means different things to different people. Some people enjoy struggling to see improvement later. I mentioned NFS because it's fun in a different way than this game was expected to be. Even "easy" NFS was bashed for rubber banding in recent instalments.
So you are saying you are not pro editor, writer etc.? Well maybe that's why it's not a pro review. But does it have to be? No. Is it wrong to point things out. Also no.
But you say you have 32 years of exp in real life. Why don't you expose what you have best? As I said, real exp is what is the best about this review. Everyone can talk about graphics, besides we can see it more or less. If you think graphic needs to be discussed more in your review, it's ok. It's your review and you don't have to appeal to the masses. That's would certainly not be up to my standards.:) But telling you what we, your audience, like or dislike is something more useful than all-round positive feedback only.
You say that basing on your exp no game could ever be a real sim and does not have to be. Ideal is not meant to be reached but are we closer or further in comparison to other games? Where are we? You are the guy with exp here. Tell us what would you like to have in this game that is not there that could add some realism so we could feel a bit of sth that you were lucky to exp in RL. This is something you can offer in comparison to others.
Is it wrong that people are ranting about the game? I don't think so. For me personally it's another half baked game in recent weeks. I'm sure cm will fix it after some time but is it fair to ask full price if you need to wait so the game is fully ready? Is it ok that reviews before release are most often overly positive so reviewers are not cut off next time (in general)? That's why we don't trust devs and reviews anymore and people are suspicious about everything so negative reviews getting more attention, which means there is more of them. Is it our, gamer's fault?
Apart from that, the game does not have sandbox map where you can practice freely. DR2 had. But WRC has that driving school thing which is step into right direction on terms of accessibility without easing.

RBR fanboys will NEVER buy this game because they're scared... they're afraid they might actually like it and have to admit that all their shitting on every rally game is an absolutely huge exaggeration...
Look man... RBR fanboys are HIPSTERS... they play a 20 year old game that looks like shit... yes, it's has good physics ...sometimes very good... but the 100% realistic physics they claim it has is a huge exaggeration... rally cars are more controllable in real life than in RBR and RBR is overall more slidey than real life where to do a full powerslide through a corner you need to push to the absolute limit...
In reality this new WRC game is more realistic than RBR because they captured the reason why rally is so hard and challenging... it's not that the cars are hard to control... real rally cars are very very controllable... the challenge is the nature of the terrain... they race on insanely rough surfaces... and this game shows it PERFECTLY... Safari Rally is so rough and bumpy... Swedish snow is so treacherous and can spin you at any moment if you touch outside the paved road... the rough Gravel of Chile and Greece when degraded by previous runners can be a real killer... while the degradation on the soft dirt of portugal and Sardenia can make the ruts so deep that you need to wrestle with the car all day long...
Tarmac is nothing more than good-ish... but tarmac feels bad in every rally game including RBR... rally cars behave so different on tarmac compared to normal race cars because of their insanely short gearing and driving style that every developper has massively struggled to capture it... I can tell you that with the right tuning you can realistically drift the rally cars in this WRC game on tarmac but you need to push them crazy hard which I think it's kinda realistic and for a rally video game is realistic enough because as I said, no rally video game is that good on tarmac...
Anyway... to the original point... don't expect RBR hipsters to ever acknowledge anyone or anything outside of their brainwashed cult... RBR is a good game... great even... but it has been ridiculously exaggerrated at this point...

RBR is far from realistic!. Most Sim nerds can't drive a real car so they think if it's hard to control it's realistic! Some sims understeers on tarmac in 50km/h on a normal bend, quite insane for a tuned car... EA WRC is far from perfect, especially the graphics imho 'cause it looks like a 10 year old game. And I play on ULTRA settings.... But it's still fun and if you need something else than Dirt2 to play this is the one.

@@LarsaNo1 What I'm saying is that based on my car knowledge I'd say EA WRC is more realistic than RBR in handling... 4WD cars are really understeery on tarmac (cause 4WD is really really understeery, even on race cars... which is why all road race cars are RWD) ... also in this game you can push the car into a controlled slide on tarmac if you push hard enough...
Also it has great feeling on snow and ice where the wheel becomes super light like it should (especially on Monte Carlo ice) .
As for gravel, I think the cars turn and slide easily but without going all over the place which is from what I've gathered from rally drivers close to how real rally cars drive...
Anyway... this new game is what I would call "close enough" to a sim... no game will ever be a perfect sim but this game feels more real than any other rally game I've played
