yoo man, thank you so much for reacting my video, appreciate the comments of it! This video is compilation of 18 different events what I filmed during the year, and I did drive over 9000 kilometres / 5600 miles with my own car to attend these events. I welcome everyone to visit some rally events of Finland, it sure is a really nice experience!

Hi Ian, the first car is an Opel Manta, probably a "400" (or at least the 400-trim), same platform as the Opel Ascona @ 8:03. This was not a bad platform at all - Walter Röhrl won his 2nd Worldchampionship in one of those against the mighty Audi Quattros in 1982.
These Opel are still a popular platform because there are still a lot of parts around, they are easy to maintain and repair, AND some nice real-life hacks like makeshift 16V-heads (!!!) made out of 24V-heads for performance! I kid you not! Go to the scrapyard, find an Opel or Vauxhall Senator "B" 24V, take the head, CUT OFF the last 2 cylinders, plug the "surplus" Water- and Oil canals, regrind the camshafts, and there you go - >260 sturdy HP with the 2,4l-4cyl.-block. You don´t even need to buy the expensive historic Weber-DCOE-carburetors, the cheaper Dell´Ortos will do! Cost: Next to nothing!

Rally in the snow, in dark..
It's actually easier than in the summer, first of you have information of every corner and obstacles down to every 10 meters from the co driver.
Then when you miss some corner a bit you have the snow banks as support, in the summer you'r off..
And with the studded rally tires you have better traction then on gravel.

  • @monksuu

If you see snow and darkness in Finland, that doesn't mean it was night. ;) You see, today the sun was above the horizon in the Helsinki area from 09:23 to 15:26 and Rovaniemi (around the Arctic Circle) had the sun three hours "above" the horizon from 10:52 to 13:52. Helsinki is approximately as north as Seward, Alaska. If Anchorage, Alaska was in Finland, it would be roughly a 70-minute drive from Helsinki using our winter speed limits (100 km/h) on the motorway.

Yeah you clearly haven't been to Finland then. That's like the number one reason for 20-year old men (or boys if we are being honest) to get a BMW. Because it is RWD, looks cool, sounds cool, so you can imagine you're in rally as you turn off traction control and slide around everywhere.
You really can't go through a winter here, without seeing BMWs just going door first around corners.

Before the french started dominating through Sebastian Loeb and Sebastian Ogier, Finland had the highest number of World Rally Championship titles of all countries, 16 titles, France now has 18 thanks to Loeb and Ogier having 9 and 8 respectively, the 18th being claimed by Didier Auriol way back in -94
Finland is quite sucsessful in motorsports overall, most recently in my mind, Ida Zetterström won the european Top Fuel dragracing championship and set a european record run of 3,77 seconds at 321 mph, and she just recently became the first european ever to be hand picked to make the move over to the US and race in the NHRA in the Top Fuel class, she even had offers from several teams, that's how sought after she was

    Falling into ditches:
You get sucked in because, well, it depends on how far in you are, the angle, your car width and setup.
But if the wheel out of the ditch loses traction and your car can't shift power away from that wheel then the differential send all the torque to the free wheel and now all your drive power is gone.
It's usually the front of the car too so half your steering is gone as well.
Then there's gravity pulling you down.
If you're lucky you get a bit of streering when you're wheel hours the opposite side of the ditch, if you're lucky momentum climbs the ditch, levels the car and you get your power and steering back.
Or you have enough steering to get the ditched wheel to climb the side next to the track and same effect, level the car and regain power and control.
And that's all of you don't beach it on the edge.
Mostly it's about having enough momentum going in get out again.

Judging by your face at that last exoskeleton car, you should really take a look at the Ariel Atom.
In fact, all small British sports cars.
    Like a Triking Type 4.
    Pembleton T24
The ultra low produced numbers kit like stuff.
I especially like the Triking, which, when taken to show off to Colin Chapman, was promptly atolen by Mario Andretti. 😂
After several hours he returned, Tony Divey, the designer and builder of said _prototype,_ was most glad it hadn't killed Mario.

Hi, thank`s for a nice video and Your amazement!
    Those are "toys"!
Compare to Group B, back in "my days".
Take a look at the cars from 1983 to 1986, especially those the last year of the class!
Those, were the real cars, my goodness.
Look at "Thousand Lakes Rally, 1985-6, with Hannu Mikkola and Michelle Mouton, driving in 200+ kmh, sliding sideways!
Those Audi;s, spat out a meter long flames, when shifting gears.
Have look at them and You will see "Real Rally".
from a former, Finnish, driver, back in days.

I honestly think, that this channel really need a reaction video @ what it looks like, when you put F1 drivers (finnish champion Mika Häkkinen too) to modern rally car (champion car) with greatest talent, Kalle Rovanperä (champion, ofc) . th-cam.com/video/9ZH_3yxjBc8/w-d-xo.html . I started to learn how to drive on the ice of a lake when I was 16. I got my drivers licence when I was 18 years old. It was legal to drive on ice underaged without the licence back then in the 1980’s. I have to say those hours and experience on the ice with a Lada 1200 has saved me many times from spinning in the winter months on slippery roads. And I’m not afraid to drive in any weather conditions. The reason how a rally driver knows where to drive in the darkness of the night is that he/she has a ”map reader” go-driver who reads coordinates where the road goes during rally. A good go-driver is as important as the driver herself. 😊

And where are you going to find someone to be your copilot, risk his life to go slow. Ain't gonna happen. Enjoy it as it is man. Leave it to people that can drive, and stay alive. :)

Sorry, it's me again. I once heard an interview with Finnish F1 champion Keke Rosberg, (Williams, 1982) and father of F1 champion Niko Rosberg, in which he was asked why Finnish drivers are so good at rallying.
He said that the houses are so far apart that parents have got tired of dropping their kids off to their friends, so, as soon as the child is about 12 years old, they just put them in the car. That's how Finnish people learn to drive early in all sorts of weather conditions just to go play with their friends. :)
